    Tofu in fukkien style
    Wendy T.

Ordered takeout. The place is spacious and we went at a busier time so we had to wait for our order. They can get busy real quick. The service was decent. They fill the food to the brim and pack it but the containers are small for the price. Each dish is between $17-25. We ordered the following: shredded chicken fried rice, fried sweet and sour pork, crispy chicken with secret sauce and tofu in fukkien style. The chicken fried rice was standard. The sweet and sour pork was good. The pork and pineapple were big pieces, compared to most other places. I quite enjoyed it. The crispy chicken came with spiced salt and black vinegar. I'm not sure if the black vinegar is the special sauce or it was given in error. My main complaint is that it was very dry. I would not get this dish again. I really enjoyed the tofu dish. It was simple and light but satisfying. Overall: 3.5/5

Congee Queen - Seafood Chow Mein (Fried Noodles)

Toronto's crown jewel of Chinese cuisine. Congee Queen has long been one of our family's go-to restaurants. They have many GTA locations including the OG location at Steeles/404. It's always crowded in the meal times. This time we enjoyed Cantonese classics : - Shrimp Wonton Soup: huge wonton balls - Seafood Chow Mein (Fried Noodles): crisp noodles loaded with seafood & sauce on top - Spicy Fried Turnip Patties: always done-well - BBQ Pork & Roast Pork Platter: cut straight from tasty meats hanging at the BBQ counter The menu is extensive but well-executed for the classics. What keeps us coming back is the consistent flavor at an affordable price point.

My first time in this location. We got the house special super bowl congee seafood which is amazing price and good for 2 people. It was super delicious and had lots of seafood inside. I like the decor and the ambiance. I will go there again and again for sure.

Solid Chinese food. Fairly busy on a Monday night and definitely seemed understaffed. Took forever for the waitress to take our order. But once order was taken, the food came out pretty quick. Portion was... huge for the price! I'm from Michigan and I was surprised by the size comparison. Taste was good. Safe option for dinner.

Casual Chinese Cuisine Parking: Lots of parking in The Shops plaza Ambiance: You know you're walking into a Congee Queen, it's not amazing, it's not wow but it's Congee Queen. Food is "OK la" Quality has gone down since they first opened. Service: Quick/Fast, Very Friendly Staff, always keeping an eye on you to make sure if you need anything they are there to help. (5/5) What we ordered: Half a roast duck - comes with a side of beans and sweet/source sauce Flavor was mediocre, salty and the skin was not crispy... tasted like it was soaking in it's own juices. Lacked texture/flavor. (3/5) Pork Internal Delicacy Congee Congee was a little bland, good flavor on the delicacies, but nonetheless not my first choice. Still a good place for a pick me up it's ok la. (3/5) (Yao Tiew) Dough fritters for Congee were surprisingly v crispy when it first came out. (4/5) Stir fried sirloin with rice noodle in satay sauce seasoned with bean sprout, chive, green onion & sesame in satay sauce. The pics don't match what we got, little chunks of beef, the flavor was ok but it was lacking. Some dishes were overly salted while others were underseasoned. Would I come back? If I need a quick bite in the area.. sure but there are better places in the area.

This place gets quite busy so make reservations. Even though we had reservations we still had to wait 10-15 min. I enjoyed their mushroom casserole pot. All of there dishes were flavorful and authentic. Their chew chow duck was moist and extremely tasty...a bit different than the traditional duck we get in NY. I would try this when coming here since it's different than other Cantonese duck places.

Congee Queen is a chain that I always love visiting on my yearly trip to see family in Toronto. Really good food but I would advise you go with someone who speaks Cantonese if you have allergies or need your food prepared in a special way. Garlic and baby bokchoi and the sweet and sour pork are always hits. Ambiance is nice and some location will have private rooms that you can reserve. There are quite a few locations so make sure you are clear on which one you made a reservation with.

Congee queen is a such classic chinese go to restaurant in The greater Toronto Area. The food is good, but what really makes this place popular is the consistency, I never had a bad meal here and they have always been on top of their game. It is always a safe pick if you can't decide on what to eat. - extremely fast service - authentic taste - not too much msg - great family atmosphere - everything on the menu is good

I love this place a lot. They have delicious Asian food and their prices is a great deal for the portion sizes you get. It's no wonder they have several locations and each time I visit they are busy. Despite that they are busy, they are fast in getting your food out. Even during the pandemic. On my last visit our group of 6 ordered 8 dishes and we had enough left overs for 6-7 take out boxes to go! Everything came out within 10-15 minutes. Insane! We arrived at 8pm Friday night and there was no wait. Their most popular item is their turnip "patties" which are more like pan fried turnip cubes. Similar to a turnip cake at dim sum places. They are slightly crispy on the outside and oh so fluffy on the inside. Had to order 2 of those. 1 spicy but it wasn't. Ask for chili sauce on the side. Their empress fried rice has seaweed, bonito flakes, unagi and unagi sauce. Takes like a takoyaki or unagi roll in a fried rice form. Delicious! Our bill was $127 before tip and it could have easily fed 10 adults.

All the dishes here are a hit. They definitely have some of the best bbq pork and bbq duck in Toronto. Gotta ask for the half fatty bbq pork though, or else it'll be too lean. We also love getting the XO sauce fried rice rolls. A super quick char and nice crisp to the outside while maintaining the texture of rice rolls. Also, we usually get the fried glutinous rice as well. It never disappoints. We come back often and will keep coming back again. And don't forget about the congee (I guess they're called Congee Queen for a reason). Their mushroom 7 grain congee is our go to.

It's $6.95 for all of their large, medium & small items which typically range $1-2 more on their standard menu. The value here is the atmosphere and relatively attentive and friendly service. The restaurant interior is still clean and impressive at this polished establishment, this time in celebration of Chinese New Year. Tea arrived shortly thereafter and I totally forgot they charged $3pp which is a bit excessive for 4 people. But the siu mai and har gow dumplings here are worth it, as both are huge and plump loaded with shrimp filling. We also had their pear-shaped deep-fried truffle berry buns & HK-style eel with cheese buns, unique to this dim sum spot. This time we added the beef rice rolls, egg tarts and taro puff dumplings as well to round out a typical dim sum meal. All-in-all we were filled very quickly for four people, especially as we ordered the congee with spare ribs, dried fish & peanuts. Skip it or hit it? If you can catch the early bird, this dim sum meal is a good new pick when hosting friends and guests in town.

I'm not very familiar with Hakka food, but my parents told me Vintage Garden is operated by the folks who formerly operated Oriental Gourmet in Markham. I've been to that location before and liked the food options that they had. We were with our relatives for dinner on New Years Day, totaling 6 in our party. We had the stir fried lobster, crispy duck, sweet and sour pork. These were all very flavourful. My parents also pre-ordered the diced mushroom and chicken in egg white wrap, which unfortunately was a bit bland. For dessert we ordered the crystal dumplings, which I also believed was a bit bland. My guess is the blandness is to deal with the general clientele here, which leans older age. My parents and relatives all seem to enjoy it overall.

Vintage Garden isn't the easiest to find. If you're heading to the establishment from the south,…read moremost likely you'll be directed onto the 404 North to exit at Finch, then perhaps through Gordon Baker Road through a commercial complex, eventually hitting Victoria Park where your GPS may tell you to turn right, but just go straight through the traffic lights into what looks like an apartment complex. It looks like you're lost, but you're in the right place as the restaurant is located at the bottom of a retirement community. Their signage leads you to the south side of the building, but it's mismarked. Instead, head to the busier north end instead where Vintage Garden's entrance is found. While I don't enjoy offal, I nevertheless sampled the broth and vegetables in the pig tripe, preserved vegetable, ginger and peppercorn soup ($14), a signature Chiu Chow dish. The strong spicy hit of ginger and pepper is great for clearing the throat and does the work of those gingery immunity shots. I prefer the Chiu Chow style oyster and minced pork with rice in soup ($12.50 for regular (pictured) or $21.50 for large), that borders between broth and congee. In this case, the rice is added with all the other ingredients so doesn't break down. Rather it soaks in the broth that is teeming with pork and seafood flavours. Located near the coast, the Chaozhou region cultivates a lot of oysters, so you'll find the ingredient in a lot of menus. Another common dish is the homestyle fried oysters egg omelette ($23), which at Vintage Garden is simply prepared with tons of oysters, green onions, and egg that's just cooked through, so it's still jelly-like in the centre. Use the dipping sauce sparingly as it's a VERY salty fish sauce. Other popular items include daa laang which are marinated items served hot or cold. My family thoroughly enjoyed the Chiu Chow style marinated intestine ($18.95), which given my aversion to offal I passed on. But I had my fill of the Chiu Yueng style marinated duck ($21.95 for a half order). Despite its disheveled appearance, the duck was steeped in flavours, especially the slices of deep-fried tofu on the bottom that soak up the braising liquid. When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Street Grill's interior and decor lends to it's theming as an old Asian alley where you get snack food from street vendors. I appreciated that the wall columns and dividers were intentionally chipped at uneven spots to fit that theme. You get a lot of variety with the available food options. They have beef, pork, lamb, chicken, seafood, and grilled veggies. The drinks also have their own separate menu with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. In our 1st batch of orders, we had the Garlic Eggplant and Ham & Cilantro Bean Curd Rolls for starters. Both are good and safe recommendations for everyone. For the rest of the food, we had Beef Tenderloin, Lamb Brisket, and Pork Belly. All were seasoned and spiced just right. I particularly enjoyed having the Beef Tenderloin and Lamb Brisket. For our 2nd batch of orders we had a Shareable (Shrimps, Sea Jellyfish, Cucumber, Preserved Eggs, and Peanuts w/ thick sweet vinaigrette) order which we were not able to finish and had to take home. That mixed veggie shareable was good to cleanse the palate, but was a little too sour to finish all in one seating. The rest of the order we had the Grilled Steamed Bun and then we tried to go more exotic by ordering Spicy Duck Tongue and Jumbo Bullfrog. I loved the Grilled Steamed Bun. It was seasoned right and toasted to perfection. The Jumbo Bullfrog had just enough meat on it to pick out and eat. The Duck Tongue might not be for everyone. There is not enough of the meaty, fleshy middle layer to eat, and then the rest of it is the 2 wide, bony protruding structures. We were seated at a good spot by the upper level overlooking the rest of the dining area. There was a server standing just behind us ready for requests and taking our orders. The overall dining experience is great, but can be a little pricey. Communication might sometimes be a small issue. Some servers default to speaking in Chinese and there are times where it can be tricky asking them to identify what was the food they just brought out.

It was a unique take. I don't prefer this but appreciate the effort. Snow pea leaves is also another staple of ours and they make that well. As was their lobster fried with salted egg yolk. Free dessert included the best chinese cookie I ever had as well as an osamanthus dessert. Service was good when they were around. Our shell plates were replaced often. However there were times when no one could be found when we needed something. Like when getting the bill. I wanted to try Peking Duck and got clued into J&Y as one of the best options to try which did not disappoint. The Peking Duck was so tender, so flavorful and so wonderfully succulent. It was perfectly prepared and sliced with the fat rendered and thinly sliced. The wraps were not the monstrous steamed buns but traditional translucent wraps which are super thin, soft and pliable. Scallions, cucumber, hoisin sauce completed each wrap which highlighted the duck. Definitely the best traditional Peking Duck preparation I've had in a very very long time. The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

We also told them we were missing a chair, they never addressed it and we ended up having to get the chair ourself. We ordered the combo dinner for 10 people for $650, there were 10 adults and 2 small kids aged 3 and 1, the restaurant added $12 for goby fish which was already on the combo menu, $14 for supposedly bigger lobsters, the restaurant suggested we order an extra set of wraps for Peking duck, but there was so little duck skin and meat that we couldn't finish using up the wraps; we asked for 2 extra bowls of red bean soup which never came! Btw the red bean soup was so seriously diluted! Overall poor service and too much upselling by restaurant made for a bad experience

But I gave it 4 stars because of the experience yesterday. The food was substandard on this visit. I ordered 1. Jumbo seafood congee (taste was bland) 2. Grouper and tofu hot pot (best of all 4) 3. Black bean and beef Hofun (seriously lacking in quality) 4. Chinese dough fritters (awesome as always) I would say I was 50% satisfied with the meal. But I will be back as I said this place hardly disappoints and Even with this experience it's still an easy recommendation to come here I hope next time the quality is up to their old 30 year standards.

Rice noodles were made right and they were not overcooked. They preferred it with a bit of gai lan. P72 - Vegetable with Oyster Sauce. The veggies were slightly overcooked but still edible. This establishment has been here for years. Some people might find the decor outdated but it holds special memories to many of us patrons.

It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. Prices are reasonable for the generous portion sizes and the unique restaurant décor.

Other Chinese BBQ-style provide better quality and punchier flavours, however this place is a pretty solid choice for both indoor and outdoor patio seating and can accommodate very large groups. Their skewers and array of BBQ items are always crowd pleasers, and they're not spicy/very lightly spiced for those who are worried about spice levels. Personally, it's not spicy enough for me, I would have liked some heavier chili powder on these, but they're still tasty! Aside from their BBQ menu, they also have a hotpot menu! There's a little something for everyone at this spot, and who can be mad at $10 for 1.5 liters of beer? Note that staff primarily speak Mandarin, but most know English. The menu is also bilingual in English and simplified Chinese, however the English translations can be a bit off for some of the items. For example: we accidentally ordered "beef back strap" skewers, thinking it's was back meat. However, it's actually the tendon-like part of beef, which is more clear in Chinese. For the most part, the English is pretty clear for you to understand, but Google translate is your friend if you need it!
