When we got sat down it was so hot it felt like it was 90 degrees in there, and the air conditioning was leaking water on us. Sunday, July 29 2018 @1130. Went there for lunch. We were seated immediately upon arrival, waterside next to the boat ramp and sail boats. Shaded under the deck. Service was ok but she apologized too much for her slow counterparts, bartender was very slow making drinks and they were weak at best. Food was tasty. Chairs were comfortable. Laid back atmosphere. Live band was playing on the other side of the building. Bathrooms were well stocked and clean. First time being there. It was not well marked on the highway, so we almost missed it. Of note, we went for the low country boil, but that was not on the lunch menu, only on the dinner menu. So make sure to check out the menu for which time of day your going. They are too totally different menus. We will go back again for dinner, maybe it will be better. read more

Wow! We came to Hurricane Patty's for Thanksgiving dinner and we will now make this an annual tradition. The food was outstanding and all 4 of us had enough leftovers for a hearty lunch!! I had the fish and chips - cooked to perfection with large portion of cod, my husband had the shrimp boil and loved it - huge and plentiful shrimp with sausage, corn & potatoes and my mom & brother had the Turkey feast - lots of white meat Turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce and green beans - all delicious AND we didn't have to labor in the kitchen all day!! I came here a few months ago and am just now getting around to writing a review. I came at lunch time. I checked-in for the 10% off using this app and they did not offer that as they said you have to print it out. Okay fine, whatever. In my mind it's better just to honor it and give the customer the what $1-2 off for them to have a greater experience. Our servers switched randomly in the middle of the meal. Not a big deal, I've just never had that happen at a restaurant. I got the blackened fish with wild rice. Fish was good so i thought until I got to the middle and it was rock solid and cold. Not sure how that happens but it really grossed me out. We were the only table in the whole place. Beautiful scenery, but that's the only thing going for them. I would never come again for food. I'm a local that has gone to this restaurant many times for years. I always bring visitors for at least a cocktail and or a meal. I showed up last evening, Sunday, with 2 visitors at 8:15. Website said they were open until 10. The hostess proceeded to tell me they were booked for an hour and would not be able to serve us. I looked around the inside and outside and there was NO ONE WAITING to be seated. NO ONE. A total of about 20 people eating. I guess the staff and cooks wanted to leave early??? I've been coming to St Augustine for the last year with work. On this trip while at another nearby restaurant, I asked the waitress about HP. She said it's "ok....just be ready to wait and get service on their time...and when you need something be prepared to ask for it!" I didn't feel like going to the Asian Bistro tonight so tried HP. The positives first: 1). Wait staff smiling and friendly 2). Portions generous 3). Bathrooms clean Not so positives: 1). For not really anyone in there service speed fair. If they were busy....you're probably out of luck. 2). Not really "river view". More like marina and marsh view. 3). Overall just a little Grungy for my dining. I suspect they serve their base clientele to an acceptable level. If your looking for a "river front" dining experience that is more than $....may want to cross the bridges to the island. If your just hungry and need to eat next to The vapors....this is fine too....or if you just want some fried seafood and beer it's perfect. We stopped in on Monday afternoon around 345. Not very busy but a few patrons were on the deck and inside. We were seated on the back deck. We were the only ones there. Several tables were still dirty from the lunch crowd. Our server was friendly. Soon after we sat another table was sat next to us. We both ordered at the same time. The party next to us received their food first and before our meals were delivered. The other party had issues, they complained the food was cold and wasn't complete, they left. When our food arrived, starting with the crab dip appetizer it was warm not hot. We ate it anyway. It was okay not great. I think if it had been at a hotter temp it would have been better, it was a comp so nothing lost. My son and I had the Cobb salad. It was a salad so hard to screw up. At 12.oo I would have expected a better presentation, it was fair. My wife had the shrimp appetizer as her meal. Again warm not hot and lacked in flavor. So disappointed was excited to go here a second time flew across the country and was told this place had amazing gator tail. Yesterday came with my family and waited 45 mins to be seated for the outside area which never did. Finally had to approach the hostess and was told they where short staffed so they could only seat us inside.... (Why they wait 45 mins to tell us ???) finally seated food was delicious so decided to come back today with more family a party of 12 (which equals lots of money) was told it was a 2 hour wait when half the tables where empty. They where short staffed again...... i asked to split the party then she said it's the same timeframe. The food is terrible! Everything is either undercooked or cold. They sell gift certificates and when the credit card system is down they refuse to accept the gift cards. Managers aren't seen visiting tables and don't return phone calls. The server was nice and drinks were good while view is pleasant. The bathroom is gross though! read more

This review is specifically for a waitress named Erica, she was incredibly unprofessional and out right rude! She had this stuck up, know it all attitude and treated my grandparents like s***, whom were celebrating their 60th anniversary. We could not believe what awful service we got from her. I EVEN so much as asked her if she was okay? She talked to my grandfather like he was incompetent and yelled loudly in his ear as if he couldn't hear. We heard her making and laughing jokes with fellow employees and it really hurt their feelings and ruined the whole experience and I'm hurt that someone could be so cruel and inhuman. The crawfish were steamed and well seasoned. The French fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Everything was fairly priced. Service: Our service was slow; that was the biggest downfall. This place is very good. This is a great place to see St Augustine in a relaxed "locals" kind of way. The water is close by, boats are everywhere (it's a marina) and the food/drinks are very good. You can sit inside or on the porch, which was a bit uncomfortable on a July evening. There was entertainment inside from 6-9. The decor is very cool, rustic beach shack. There's a huge lobster that greets you at the door. The food was very good too. The menu is extensive if looking for anything from salad to burger to wrap to chicken pasta. They were on track for 5-stars, but the grouper wrap and ahi tuna sandwich both lacked enough taste to make them excellent. My grouper wrap had too much lettuce on it and the salsa on the side was missing cilantro (imho), and couldn't easily be applied to the wrap anyway. The fish was good ( I chose blackened). My wife's ahi tuna sandwich came with no dressing, sauce or spread. There was lettuce and tomato. The fish was done perfectly, pink inside and was tasty, but more was needed to make this a sandwich. The waitress did offer condiments. I think my wife should have asked for some mayo or mustard. To start, I had She-Crab soup, a staple in my diet when in Charleston. This place did it justice with the right amount of crab and an excellent flavor to the thick broth. There were some crab shells, but that's hard to avoid. It also came out barely warm, but given the air temperature, that was welcome. I then went with their wings, medium with a ranch topping. You get 10, they were very hot (temp, unlike the soup) but were also excellent. They were tasty, meaty and just warm enough (spicy). I'd take a run at hot next time. Service was great. The beers were cold and cheap during the 3-7PM Happy Hour. Parking can be tricky as others have mentioned, but there are lots of places if you are willing to walk from the marina. This place would be great for kids as the boat ramp is right there and the porch is large enough for them to wander a bit. I'll head back, but sit inside next time, unless it's cooler out. read more

This was our first time eating here. We are on the deck which was nice, but dark. It needed more light. We could hardly see our food. Ha! Anyway, the food was delicious and the servers were super friendly. The decor is pretty cool. Karaoke was going on inside the night we were there. Sadly our order was order was late, and not what was advertised. I ordered the crab cake dinner that was supposed to come with 3 cakes and coleslaw, it came with 2 cakes and fries. Our experience wasn't the greatest. We waited quite after being seated to be acknowledged by our waitress, apparently our waitress wasn't aware that we were seated in her section. Mistakes happen. Once our drink orders were in, it took another 7 minutes to get my beer, that was sitting on the bar getting warm. The waitress seemed somewhat inconvenienced that we were there and argumentative when I brought it to her attention that I was missing my hushpuppies with my meal. I had to ask her to bring me a menu to prove that hushpuppies were included and when she came back with them she snipped and blamed the oversight on the cook...wrong answer. Our night here was not good at all, but after speaking to the manager he heard me out and invited us back ensuring me this is not how Hurricane Patty's operates and would like to prove it. He took very good care of us and seemed very receptive with my comments. I know every restaurant has a off night, and I'm hoping this was one for them. MAN OH MAN. I'm still dreaming about that calamari. Gahh. It tasted soo good and the marinara was very tasty and came in a big bowl. Score! The shrimp was also BOMB DIGGITY. The sauce in came with was sooooo delicious. We got it friend dinner style. Minus one star for the too salty clam chowder. I'm picky with my clam chowder having lived in California and all. Also, their konk fritters were bland. The Fish and chips were OK. We prob should have ordered the catch of the day. Plus, they didn't have any strawberry daiquiri and then, when my mango daiquiri came out it wasn't blended enough - so not enough that it wouldn't go through my straw. Was not able to eat here. Made a reservation online and showed up. Was told the wait would be about 10 minutes. 45 minutes later after watching other groups who arrived after us get seated before us. We had 5 in our party. We were told they seated the other parties because they were smaller parties (4). We asked if we could just pull a chair up to a 4 seater, but was told they were not allowed. There were some 6 seaters available but were not cleaned off (plates from previous party). That table was dirty the entire 45 minutes we waited. To their defense, it was on a Saturday during spring break. After finding out there was a 1 1/2 hour wait for a table at O'Steens, we remembered a few good reviews for Hurricane Patty's and set the GPS to take us there instead...and we're glad we did! This restaurant is set right against the water on a marina and has a nice "authentic" seaside feel. Unfortunately they were out of Conch Fritters, but we soldiered on a ordered a fried seafood sampler platter for the table along with an extra order of fried shrimp. We were all so impressed with the quality and freshness of the seafood! The platter contained fresh local fish, clam strips, crab cakes, scallops and shrimp. We had sides of beans and rice, fries, slaw and a Caesar salad. All of the fried seafood was cooked to perfection...the scallops were creamy smooth but the fried shrimp was the clear winner in the crowd. All the sides were tasty as well. We finished off the meal by sharing a slice of Key Lime pie...which was made with graham cracker crust and was yellow (like a real key lime pie SHOULD be!). All in all this was a pleasant surprise and a great meal in a fun setting. read more

Third, it wasn't in the midst of all the action and attraction. Do it. Eat there. Delicious. Most kid menus are all fried stuff and a lot of joints won't work with you in changing to grilled etc. This place did! My 16month old tore up grilled Mahi and I tried some as well- good stuff. My wife had the crab cakes which are always unpredictable from place to place in our opinion. Literally wasn't a crumb left on her plate. Said was top notch. I ate the shrimp and grits which were very good. If you like spicy style shrimp and grits this one may not be for you although I'm sure they could add more kick if requested.
