Micheal U, if you're reading this you are fantastic. My roommate was very indecisive and Michael gave her all the time she needed AND gave great recommendations. I got the Milton's Chicken, Crab Rangoon's and two cocktails - The Princess and the Raspberry Wisp. All of them were delicious. Our server, Micheal U., was seriously one of the best servers I have had in a while. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and had good recommendations for a sushi roll "without cream cheese, not fried, and is spicy" that one of my friends requested. The food was delivered at the perfect timing. This was not my first time at Hiro 88, but each time I've been it's for birthdays- great place for groups. The sushi is good, not the best I've ever had but still good. I ordered the Dragon's Breath cocktail and it was amazing. If the service wasn't as good as it was I would have given Hiro 88 a 4/5. My friends and I were going to see Hamilton in Omaha and decided to stop and have a nice dinner before hand. When we arrived we were seated by the bar after placing a reservation, the bartender was our server and so we were patient but it took her around 10 minutes after drinks to ask if we wanted appetizers and then took 10 minutes after the appetizers come out to help us. The food was overall mid, slightly below average. Mmmm I was a rival sushi place's biggest fan but Hiro May have swept me off my feet. My friend told him he didn't do his job as a manger when we were leaving and he told us it's ok you don't have to come back. I've always had good service there until tonight. A go to place for sushi. It's fresh and consistently really good. One of my favorites is the Hiro Special Roll. Sometimes I think they forget the masago, which is disappointing, but it's still pretty good. They also have "traditional" Chinese dishes on the menu and plenty of options for people that aren't into sushi. The peanut butter chicken, broccoli beef, chicken fried rice and crab rangoon are very good and definitely worth trying. I've been here twice since the big birthday bash, but I had a few things to add. My second visit here, the wait for our food was still pretty long. My main disappointment for this visit was that I ordered chocolate cake for dessert. it wasn't on their menu but I didn't think about how expensive it would be. And honestly, $12 for a piece of cake is ridiculous. I can understand paying around $6 for a piece of cake but $12 is steep. My third visit here was during happy hour. I wanted some cheap sushi! I got the rolls I wanted, but happy hour does have one setback. If you want to make any kind of alteration at all to your happy hour sushi rolls, they will be charged at full price. That literally makes no sense to me; you think they want to save ingredients on things that I would pick out anyways. No one in my party likes cream cheese in their sushi. we were told that if we got our happy hour sushi without cream cheese, it would be charged at full price. The two people who were with me are both from California and it just blew their mind that Midwestern sushi restaurants put cream cheese in there rolls. I would rate this experience as a 1 star review. Yes a nice place that is well kept and clean. However, it was terrible service from our waitress. Understand when it is Sunday "reverse happy hour" it would be busy and overwhelming none the less. Attentiveness and apologies would have been appreciated for our food coming out one hour after being ordered and our drinks we ordered coming out 25 minutes after being ordered. The Manger looked to be hovering around the restaurant having the time of his life but not checking on any of his guests or accommodating for the extensive wait times on food and drinks. Another gem in landlocked Omaha that was surprising to me. Came here for HH after a work trip to NE and ordered some of the happy hour rolls. Did not know I could find great sushi in Omaha. The salmon was very fresh, and the rice was seasoned and steamed perfectly. I ordered a myriad of rolls they had on special during happy hour and all of them were amazing. I came in earlier this week for a large party and we were celebrating my 30th birthday. Our family gathered into an already pre-set table. It was nice and private on one side of the restaurant. We were joined by many of our family, friends, and also their kids. Our server, James greeted us with a smile and asked us if we've been in before. As this was some of our guests first visit, he took the time to go over the menu with us and explain some of his favorite dishes. He also informed us that it was the first day that a new service system had been installed and apologized if there were to be any delays or errors in service. After his intro shpeel, he gathered drink orders and brought kids cups of water to our child diners. The adults ordered wine and sake bombs. They were all very pleased. He said he loved the cinco de mayo roll, and he was right, it really does taste like ceviche! Others got Chinese dinners. The food came out fast and all of our orders were without error. He checked back in a timely manner and made sure each of us were enjoying our meals and brought prompt refills. At the end of service, he surprised me with a delicious chocolate cake. Boy, I'm telling you, it was one of the best that I've had. It even had a little note on it that made it extra special. |Happy Hour| I loved this visit. I was exploring downtown last night with a few friends. A few of us were feeling hungry and I remembered that Hiro had happy hour all day on Sundays. We walked in around 6:00 and there was a 45 minute wait. They snagged one of our numbers for their system so we could receive a text when our table was almost ready. We went and walked around Hollywood Candy, just down the block for those 45 minutes while we waited. The place is beautiful, dark- but you can still see clearly. We ordered from the Happy Hour Menu which includes variations of sushi, appetizers and other fish dishes. I kicked it off with a $2 sweet and sour soup. The soup was good, but nothing stood out to me. Next came Crab Rangoon and Egg Rolls. The waiter missed one of our orders of Egg Rolls and so I had to wait a few extra minutes, but, it wasn't on the bill and I'll take that deal anyway. I had ordered the jalapeño bacon crab Rangoon and it was fantastic. I traded for a regular Rangoon at our table and may have enjoyed that better. The jalapeño Rangoon didn't have any kick from the jalapeños but the crust was great for dipping in the sweet and sour sauce and the Rangoon center was mouth watering! The egg rolls were good, but I think it's pretty hard to make eggs rolls really good. We split a the Mochi at the end and I loved it! I had Mochi in little Tokyo when I was in LA and that was alright, but I really liked what Hiro has going on! I appreciate when Mochi! It's chewy, but you're not going to choke on it and I think that the green tea was probably my favorite. With the Egg rolls taken off - the bill was $12 for a full plate of Rangoon, Sweet and Sour Soup and a dish of Mochi that wasn't priced for Happy Hour.
