This is a sister restaurant to Yoshitomo. Menu items do overlap. The plates are small, so we decided to share various dishes: Simba roll, Tsukune, Negima, Hamapon, KFC buns, KFC wings. Although all the things we ordered were tasty, our favorites were the KFC wings (soy ginger sauce) and the Kani Miso. KFC wings were perfect combo of super crispy outside and still soft inside meat; we preferred the soy ginger sauce on KFC wings more than the gochujang sauce we got on KFC buns. Kani miso definitely has a strong crab flavor, so not everyone may like it, but I loved it. I had gotten the simba roll at Yoshitomo as well, and I feel that I liked the one at Yoshitomo more than Koji because the roll was more drenched in sauce and had been more notably torched. The inside gives off an upscale, dark contemporary vibe with cozy ambient lighting. We sat outside in the porch area, which is dog friendly. Our waiter was awesome, very kind and engaging. Had dinner at Koji last night with some friends and family. It's tucked away in the strip mall across from Westside High. The entrance is kind of rough, walking through what feels like a service hallway, but once you step inside, it's a completely different atmosphere. The smell of smoke hits you right away in a good way. The space feels warm and inviting, with wood beams across the ceiling and Japanese art throughout. They were playing Wu-Tang when we walked in, which was unexpected and honestly pretty cool. You can see right into the kitchen from just about every seat, which adds to the experience. Our server was excellent. Super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was full of flavor and creativity. Every dish felt carefully put together and tasted great. The only thing to keep in mind is the price. It's definitely on the higher end, and I'm not sure I'd go back because of that. Still, I'm really glad we went. Fantastic find in Omaha, and totally did not expect to come across such an awesome sushi spot here. Interior was dimly lit and perfect for a date night or special occasion. We were seated promptly (although we did make a reservation). We basically sampled most parts of the menu, and our server and host were great in recommending dishes. Koji is a top notch restaurant....do I dare say even the best overall in Omaha? Once you have a meal here, you won't be able to stop thinking about it. The Fukui cocktail (cucumber vodka flavors) is a great pairing with the menu items. One thing I really enjoy about this restaurant is that you order as you go, so you never leave hungry and it's a safe bet that you won't over order. The wait staff will frequently check in on you and see if you need to order more. The Bunzai Buns (runza inspired) and Gyoza are my favorite options outside of the sushi. The Gyoza are fresh, chewy, and are paired with a very flavorful sauce. Our favorite Nigiri is the Sea Bream And you truly can't go wrong with any of the rolls. Don't forget to end your meal with the cereal milk ice cream! Reservations are highly recommended as time slots will fill up fast. The sushi, service, drinks and atmosphere were great. We started with the bunzai buns, which was their take on a runza. They were small but good. The edamame was standard. We also got the Hama toast and hotate, very fresh. For maki rolls we got the go-San, stinger and royale. None stuck out more than the other. Our server was very kind and knowledgeable and offered a great amount of suggestions while navigating the menu. The restaurant is small and cozy with very cool woodwork throughout. This was our first time trying Koji which is a sister restaurant to Yoshitomo. The seating was intimate with only about 15-20 tables inside. The lighting was dim and moody perfect for a date night or special occasion! There was also seating at the bar where you can actually watch the chefs make the sushi - this is where we will plan to sit next time we visit! Our waitress Jill started off by asking if we had ever been in and when we told her it was our first time she ran through the entire menu with us and pointed out some of her favorite dishes. This was beyond helpful and she was able to answer any questions we had. The food was delicious and assembled to perfection. We ended up trying five menu items which was filling between the two of us with even a few rolls leftover. Every food item we tried you could tell was crafted with care. The sushi was fresh and they get some of the products such as Uni aka sea urchin from Japan. We could've ordered 2-3 more but they ran out. Great first time experience at an izakaya! Lots of free parking at the front. They allow reservations through their website, however when I arrived with my party of 4, there was no wait for a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is quiet, great for dates or family meals. They had a variety of different maki rolls, nigiris, and yakitori. I would say that a lot of their options are more citrusy in flavor, and did not have that many options for spicy ahi/tuna in their menu. Our table drank a lot of water and they were always on top of it not making us wait. One of our orders was wrong but the server did a great job handling that situation. The rodeo roll is my favorite. This is 100% the best sushi I've tried in Omaha. Not only is food amazing, but service is ALSO amazing. Our food came out so quickly, and our waitress was so sweet and attentive. I would recommend making a reservation! There is ample and easy parking. The restaurant has a hip and cozy atmosphere. Go-san roll: has jalapeño but is not spicy, and this is coming from someone with a low spice tolerance. Refreshing and tasty. Royale roll: order if u like spicy! Simba: this was my personal favorite roll out of the 3 rolls we got bc I like all the sauce it came with Negiri: all of them were delicious Mezurashi: I got the chicken+shishito bc the pictures looked good on Yelp. My daughter's favorites were the aburi wagyu and simba Maki roll. I'm not sure what I would pick as a favorite because I really enjoyed everything. Chasu buns: great chasu but there was too much hoisin on the bun. Tako yakitori: great flavor and sauce was yummy! Aburi wagyu: perfectly seared and melts in your mouth. Kani miso temaki handroll: this was sooo good but rather rich from the crab fat. Scallop temaki handroll: The scallop was great, xo sauce was ok Simba Maki roll: I love torched rolls and this one was wonderful. This is not just a restaurant, this is a full bodied dining experience. We had so much fun with the small plate aspect here but it's very easy to order too much! The complex flavor combinations the chef has concocted are anything but average. You will not see wasabi and soy sauce. This experience is about the specially curated flavors in front of you, not saucing it up, and don't worry you won't miss it. I highly recommend sticking to small plates if you have a smaller party. We ordered rolls and hardly had room to eat them. Although there were no complaints when we had leftovers. The space is on the smaller side, very intimate with dark accents. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching the plates being made. Service was impeccable. Our server was not only attentive, but also patient, and went into great detail of the restaurant and food items with no problem answering all our questions as first time diners. Koji was absolutely wonderful, I waited too long to try this amazing place. I would give it somewhere between 4.5 and 4.75 if Yelp would let me be that specific, but I'd really just be nit picking about small things, my recent visit was excellent. I had dinner there with a client and we were able to sample a good number of items, the two that stood out the most in my mind were the bunzai buns and the hamapon. The bunzai tastes almost exactly like a classic runza sandwich but actually better because of the amazing soft bun it was served on, so good. The hamapon had a great refreshing taste due to the mix of the serrano chilies and the crab butter, very unique and delicious. We also split a few maki roll which were both great, the Omaha crunch and the stinger, I'd definitely order both again, but the Omaha crunch was slightly better in my opinion. The only thing we ate that wasn't amazing was the KFC bun, the bun was great, but the fries chicken and slaw filling was a bit underwhelming. Service was great and the atmosphere was very cool with the dark wood interior with low lighting. Highly recommend. read more

This place was amazing, I followed a suggestion off of the Yelp app, I use the "SURPRISE ME" button and it definitely took me for a surprise. The ambience was absolutely wonder, great bar area overlooking the cooks in the kitchen preparing the food right before your eyes. It was very pleasing to see that they were constantly washing their hands, wearing gloves and cleaning up after preparing each meal. From my view there was no faking, if they messed up I was going to see it and they were perfect. I even asked the cooks a few questions as he was preparing the food. My waitress was incredible and very friendly. She assisted me 120% of the way down my Koji culinary journey. Every entree selection was visually attractive, flavorsome and delightfully delicious! I sample several things off menu and I thought everything was absolutely incredible! I started out with a cocktail called Fukui which was vodka, cucumber, clpico and lemongrass. (smooth and pleasantly refreshing). From the "Buns Menu" I had the KFC which was fried chicken in Panko deep fried with gocujang and cabbage slaw it was light, crunchy, spicy and delicious. From the "Yakitori Menu" I had the Negima (Chicken thigh) and the pork belly and they we both cooked perfectly and tasted great. From the "Teemaki handrolls" I had the Kani Miso which was snow crab, crab fat, ikura and it very tasty and pleasant. Total food experience and ambiance were 10/10 and I would definitely visit again. Definitely take a jacket as it gets super cold on the bar being next to the kitchen. It's a little dark inside and there were about 3 tables by 7pm on a Sunday. I really don't have any complaints about the food, it was all delicious. If it's your first time going you have to get the KFC buns and the scallop hand roll. Those were my two favorites. The drink wasn't too overpowering and was the perfect combination with the food. It's sort of like a lemonade but not as sweet. Highly recommend! I definitely will be back! read more

Maybe my expectations were too high given the reviews I read/what others told is. We tried a lot of different things, and I think on average, most of the items we had were average to good. The place did have a good vibe though. I'd say for me it would be 3.5 stars but I'll round up. We did have a hickup where we were sat and and a server didn't come for 20+ minutes to take our order, but the manager came very apologetically and offered us special skewers / alcohol as an apology. Another hit by the Yoshitomo team. My partner and I were in town visiting from San Francisco and this place would be considered good even on the West Coast. The price point is in line with Omaha prices so we felt like we were getting a 2 for 1 and ordered more stuff on the menu than we usually would have so we could try everything. The crab fat hand roll and the Hamachi plate were highlights. The hama toast that we also had at Yoshitomo was undercooked and chewy instead of nice and crispy like we remembered which was a little disappointing, but everything else was so good that we couldn't complain. We came to Kogi for a random lunch date and could not have been happier with our choice. We essentially had the restaurant to ourselves and felt like the staff were very welcoming. Everything we tried was incredible. In contrast to its sister restaurant, Kogi has slightly more options in terms of grilled items. We had some of the grilled pork as well as pork buns, both of which were delicious. The sushi roll that we had was also incredible. We additionally had one of the cold dishes of fish, which was sort of like and was also delightful. I would highly recommend Kogi for either lunch or dinner and I very much. Koji is Japaneses restaurant in Countryside Village. Set near the middle of the street-facing front, it's not hard to find. I was delighted to find a reasonably-decorated locale. Spacious, too. Deceivingly so from the outside. Nothing ostentatious, just well set and well decorated. The staff is young and attentive. Seating is comfortable. Space is good. Parking is plentiful. It'd be tough to find no parking in the complex. The food was delicious. We had sushi, and were pleased by each dish, from the traditional nigiri to the custom rolls. Worth the visit.
