Went here for lunch on a Friday and everything was pretty good! Service was good and timing of check ins, water refills, clearing plates, etc. was perfectly timed. The services tag teamed and helped each other even if it wasn't their "table" which I always appreciate because it helps the whole restaurant. We really got to try a bit of everything and while I don't remember all the names I'll try to breakdown what I did remember. Bunzai- their version of a Runza was excellent and maybe the thing I enjoyed most. Wagyu Nigiri- I know this isn't the name but it was good and tender- maybe lacking a tad of flavor. Kani- It was the item I saw most people recommend. Flavor was good but a bit too salty for my taste. The thinly sliced salmon plate and the crudo plate were delicious as well- salmon was my favorite between the two. My only regret is not taking pictures of everything! So excited that we have another fantastic sushi spot in Omaha. Sister restaurant of one of my absolute faves, Yoshitomo, Koji is a fantastic lunch spot (or dinner, I just happened to be there for lunch). The service was fantastic, and the food was even better. I was with my dad who is very much a sushi novice and he even loved everything. We had the edamame, kfc bun, aburi wagyu, scallop hand roll, and khaleesi maki roll. The standout for me was the aburi wagyu which I've had before at yoshitomo and it remains my favorite bite of food in Omaha. I loved the kfc bun and am excited to try a different varitation on my next visit. The khaleesi had too much sun dried tomato for my taste, but overall the roll was very refreshing and light. The wagyu sashimi was burnt and bitter, the sushi rolls were clunky, poorly rolled and disgusting. The "sushi chef" was chatting incessantly with his colleagues. It was just a very bad experience. I'm generally into taking my kids anywhere, as they are adventurous eaters. But at 7 and 4 years old, I feel like they wouldn't yet appreciate the small plates at Koji... luckily we didn't bring them and were able to enjoy them ALL TO OURSELVES! NOM, NOM, NOM! If you've ever treated yourself to the chef's Omakase at Yoshitomo, some of the dishes will appear pleasantly familiar here at Koji. Drinks were the Fukui and an Asahi... note that for some reason I did not realize there was a back to either menu. Apparently feeling too lazy to pick up off the table - or maybe I was too busy taking pictures. Either way, check out the backs because there are lots of things to try! So much so that I definitely need a return visit in my future. Started out with the Crudo - striped bass, kiwi, dill, leche de tigre. Like the perfect summer dish, with all the flavors together. Wanted to lick the bowl. Next was the Kare - chicken breast grilled and skewered with green curry. Could have eaten about 10 of them myself. Hama Toast - hamachi with brown butter on sourdough bread. Um... YES. Super interesting texture left plenty of time to enjoy the mouthfeel. Aburi Wagyu - steak, uni butter. This bite we'd had before and I probably have food dreams about, so couldn't skip. And finished with a couple rolls... Khaleesi (salmon, sun dried tomato, avocado, shallot, lemon, rayu oil - torched) and Rodeo (wagyu, panko, pickle, shallot, Japanese mayo, tonkatsu sauce, bbq paper). Both so totally different, and - no surprise - amazing. I could have done with like 1/2 the amount of lemon on the Khaleesi, personally. This was easily self-modified at the table. The food was delicious, we didn't have anything we didn't like. We ordered shishito peppers, the Tako skewers (octopus), and 4 rolls. The peppers were great, the only thing I was a little eh on was there was a few very large peppers that were cooked but I think because of their size not as well done as the others. But that's being really picky cause the sauce was perfect and so were the rest of the peppers. The tako app was so good. The sauce for that was so good I wanted to lick the plate clean. The 4 rolls we had were so so good. I actually tried a veggie roll, the sun dried tomatoe one with a lemon slice. I had zero expectations for this, as I never get a veggie type roll. Lemme tell you, I'd get this every time. I don't know how they do it, but that lemon slice brings everything together on that roll. The other rolls, I don't remember their names, were all so flavorful and tasted so good. Great job! The staff was all friendly and the restaurant itself was nice and welcoming. Great location and service with a swanky atmosphere. Like its sister location, Yoshitomo, it has some distinctive qualities that I don't care for. I understand I'm coming across as shallow and petty, but I don't like that you can't make requests like not putting any wasabi on my sushi. I've always disliked wasabi and don't like it on my sushi. Another example would be that they won't give out extra soy sauce. I understand that their sushi is "pre-made" (Not sure if this is the correct wording?) and already comes with soy sauce (and wasabi) on the roll... I enjoy a little extra soy without the green stuff. Koji was an amazing experience! I went with my sister and my parents. It was easy to share many of the dishes between the four of us which was super fun. Many of their dishes had very complex and unexpected flavors which we loved. The fish was extremely fresh and we could tell everything was high quality. Our server checked on us frequently and made sure our drinks were full. There is both indoor and outdoor seating (at least during the warmer months). We sat inside and it was nice and comfortable. We could see the chefs cooking in the kitchen from where we sat. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be returning to try more items on their menu! read more

First time here setting the expectation high from aesthetics, taste, and price point. For a high price point restaurant I was disappointed in leaving the restaurant and smelling like food. The decor at first struck as minimalist. But the more you look at it, its actually more like "on a budget". The drinks options were good, but they weren't amazing. I had the bakugo, which a sweeter old fashion in a sense. For the foods overall, I wasn't sure why the majority of the ingredients were crabs, wagyu(s) and many forms of uni(s). To me, thats an excuse to set the price point for the dishes to be as a novelty. Opposing to actually contributing to the dish for a unique taste. The rolls I had were either too salty or too sweet. There was no consistency that helps the meal to be balanced. So every bites are follow with sips of water. Last but not least, the "Korn". Absolutely disappointed. This is a flip on the Korean cheese corn dish often serve and pair as drinking food. The tajin in it really overpowered everything else. And the chicken being in there made the texture weird. If this place lived in CA or Vegas or NYC, they could charge 2x and people would still be lining up. Instead, it's an Omaha treasure. I love it as much as its older sister, Yoshitomo. Great service and cute but spare Japanese Scandinavian decor. There are a lot of things that are the same on the sister restaurant's menus, but Koji also boasts yakitori, skewers in the Tokyo style. We tried chicken thigh and chicken skin. I can't say which I like more. Thigh is juicy and tender, skin is crispy and chewy. We also had hand rolls of scallop and wagyu. Both were great, but scallop edged out as my fave of the dinner. I went to Koji for date night and was impressed. We arrived promptly for our reservation and the place was packed! I went on a weekday around 7PM, and parking was difficult to come by. I ended up ordering a variety of bite sized pieces to share and loved the experience!   Negima (chicken thigh) Skewer -2 skewers with 3 pieces each of chicken thigh as well as green onion and chili pepper -What stood out the most was the tenderness of the chicken. I'm typically used to overcooked skewers but not at Koji! Also, the skewers were well seasoned in addition to having a smokey flavor. After my first bite, I ordered a second batch! Taki (Octopus) Skewer -2 skewers with 3 small octopus flavored in miso panca -While typically not a huge fan of seafood, Koji changed that for me with their octopus skewers. Like the chicken skewers, these were also cooked perfectly. What I liked the most was the spicy sauce that neutralized some of the briny flavor that I usually don't like when eating seafood. Bolo w/ pork gyoza -4 pork gyoza topped with chicken bolognese and parmesan -The gyozas were amazing! There were so many flavors jam packed into this dish. The pork sauce that was poured on top added to the dish and different from the typical pan fried only gyoza I'm familiar with.   Yuke (wagyu tartare) -x2 waygu tartare with gochujang and egg yolk over a bed of rice and seaweed paper -This was my first time trying beef tartare, and it was was my favorite dish of the night. While the texture of the raw meat can be discouraging to some, I absolutely loved it. The flavors in the beef tartar were splendid and mixed well with the rice and seaweed wrap. This is definitely the dish I would recommend if you visit! Crudo -Striped bass, kiwi, dill, leche de tigre -This is the second time trying this dish. I thought it was really done well; however, the kiwi combination did not do this dish justice. My previous experience involved halibut crudo with watermelon which made for a refreshing feeling after each bite. Here, the kiwi and striped bass combination did not have that same effect unfortunately. Gojira Roll -Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, crab, serrano, citrus soy, sriracha, rays oil -As someone who has had plenty of sushi in the past, I was rather amazed at how poorly my sushi roll tasted. The tempura was not fresh and extremely soggy making the whole roll disappointing. I'd advise against ordering this dish again. Overall, I am enjoyed my experience at Koji. Their Negima Skewer and Yukke were definitely the stars of the night. The staff was friendly and quick to provide their services. I will definitely be back again! read more

At first when you walk in, you are instantly immersed in the dark and warm interior. The dining room is small and intimate with a small sushi bar to the left. This would be a great place for a romantic or intimate dinner. Their menu is thoughtful and concise. They offer appetizers, small plates, chicken skewers, nigiri and maki rolls (traditional sushi). We ordered the koji (cucumber salad), the chasu bun, and the shishito peppers to start. They all had incredible flavor and were presented beautifully. The chasu bun was delicious but we were not a huge fan of the meat's texture. Our favorite of the three was definitely the cucumber salad. For the main dish, I ordered the Royale maki roll. This roll has spicy salmon, cucumber, crab, avocado, soy chili aioli, ponzu, & sambal salsa on top. It was a burst of flavors! The service was so great. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I'll preface this by saying that I'm not a huge sushi guy. Raw fish is just not my cup of tea. So why, oh why, would I visit a sushi joint for dinner? Well, you see... my girlfriend is a sushi girl. And, we all know how that argument goes.... Our visit to Koji was actually incredible. I always find it a challenge when visiting these places, to find something on the menu that is cooked. Luckily, with their specialty in Yakitori, I had several options right out of the gate. And let me tell you, I was definitely impressed. In addition to the food, the atmoshpere was simple and quaint, I liked the option to sit at the bar and be able to watch the food preparation, and from our table I could actually see them cooking the yakitori, which was quite entertaining, as the guy doing it kept getting a little too close to the heat. For food, we went with the aburi wagyu to start, which was absolutely phenomenal. The portion itself was small, as expected, but the flavor was incredible and after having uni butter for the first time, I'd really like to get my hands on more. The yakitori was perfectly cooked, not overdone or dry whatsoever, and came out to my plate piping hot. Both myself and my girlfriend selected several rolls as well, and went to down on them. We left full, and with a box of leftovers that we definitely forgot to eat. All in all I'd say that this is an amazing option for someone looking for some top-grade sushi. I went with my friend who is a vegetarian and another friend who doesn't like raw fish, and they were able to find food that they could enjoy. If you're a fan of Yoshitomo, you'll recognize some of the rolls on the menu here. The most recent time I went, I got the Hama saba roll and the Kani Miso handroll. This is a great newer spot in Omaha. The ambience is modern yet intimate and I loved sitting at the bar watching everything be made. The menu was diverse with so many options yet not too many to make you feel overwhelmed. I got a handroll, one of their yakitoris, seaweed salad (definitely one of the best I've ever had) and few maki rolls. Each item was delicious and thoughtfully curated. You can tell everything was made with quality ingredients. The mix of textures and flavors were unique and unlike many rolls you'd find elsewhere yet also seamlessly came together in a way that wasn't too foreign or surprising to the taste buds. Yoshitomo is my favorite sushi spot in Omaha, so when I heard the chef was opening a new place, I made it a priority to visit. When comparing the two, for me, there is nothing quite like the charm that the Benson location offers, but Koji comes with some major conveniences such as easier parking and a larger footprint overall, expanding the reservation options. Some of the menu items at Yoshitomo were also served up at Koji and I am happy to report of the shared items I selected I could tell no difference in taste or quality. We again had excellent service with a very knowledgeable server. Leave the kids at home for this one, dining at Koji and Yoshitomo are more of an upscale dining experience and a must if you are a sushi fan in the Omaha area! read more

This is basically Yoshitomo but with added entrees. The vibe is very similar with a nicely lit dining area and a sushi bar on the side. It is perfect to have a nice conversation with friends without deafening background noise. Service was excellent as expected. The food itself was awesome and I particularly lake the unique takes they have in their menu such as a friend chicken bun with gochujang sauce or their Mac and Cheese. Overall though, it is still yoshitomo at heart. I do prefer the Benson place better though as the quality of sushi ingredients for some reason looks and tastes better there. This is Yoshitomo's sister restaurant and I couldn't believe it was so quiet when we were in there for a Saturday lunch - Omaha needs to give this place some more love because the meal was incredible. When I eat meals like this I retroactively judge myself for ever eating lower-quality sushi - THIS is how it's supposed to be done. That waygu negiri doesn't even need to be chewed, 10/10.
