I love this restaurant. You'll spend quite a bit but it serves some of the most creative food in Omaha. Most of it lands, too. I started with the egg (something of their signature dish). It has surprising flavors but is at its core a deviled egg on potato salad. I loved it. We shared five rolls. A lot of fun, I'd recommend them all except the truly mediocre Khaleesi, which is topped with Sun-dried tomatoes. I hated the texture and it was overbearing. There is a torched-beef bite that was to die for. The rolls are very heavy on sauce, so if simple fish, rice, and seaweed is your thing, this might not be the place for you. Service was excellent though. We were helped easily through the menu. And the reverse osmosis water was super refreshing.

Two days later of craving more, I must add a few newbies for me. Darcy & Kelly were great! Fukui Vodka Cucumber Drink 5 Star so refreshing! I had two! Sakeviche 5 Star - the Tonburi or Caviar of the land is a must for my pantry now. Loved Darcy's recommendation on this! Khaleesi 2/5 - I thought the sundried tomato would be more sweet, but it was more of a paste & have me immediate heartburn. Megami 5 Star & a total palette cleanser to me! I'd order this first to eat between bites & entrees. It was fresh & wonderful! Kobayashi Maru 2/5 - very plain, nothing really standout for me. I also ordered my favs from last time & know next time what to start with & try the rest of the magnificent menu. For the experience, I did the cereal milk & dole pineapple ice cream. Very cute accompaniments. Side point, they have to get the reservations for sushi bar situated or have the bar be a first come, first serve missing out on customers due to no-show bookings just FYI.

Wow! We are so lucky to have this gem of a restaurant in Omaha! We love the bar seating to see the sushi chefs working to make each dish a delight! The staff is attentive and welcoming. Beyond the presentation is the flavor of each dish - it's like a Japanese flavor safari. The quality of the fish is beyond comparison - the color, texture and flavor is something to experience. I learned they dry age 75% of the fish to optimize the texture (you can see the coolers in the front). They also make all their wasabi fresh. Looking forward to making another visit soon!

A visit on Christmas Eve. Always great service. Sushi chef recognized me and checked on my service. Plates: Saigon makimono and Abura Miso. My favourite was the Abura Miso. Also known as andansu in Okinawan, is a savory, slightly sweet, and versatile Okinawan condiment made by simmering miso paste with pork belly and seasonings. I highly recommend.. also a nice meal on occasion. Beer is too expensive :(

I think if I reviewed everything away then this review would be way too long to write. We were celebrating and decided to head to Yoshitomo. We made a reservation on their website since it was a weekend which was really easy to do and the hostess sat us right away. We started with some wine and they had an impressive selection of well curated wines. No mass produce labels on this menu. The prices were also reasonable for dine-in. We started with the Oni egg and some edamame. You might think that an egg sounds so simple but the amount of effort and care that it takes to make this one egg dish is so impressive and it's worth every penny. Imagine eating a devil egg but that deviled egg was crafted by an angel in heaven and sent down to you on a little floating cloud. That good. Another highlight was the Hama toast. My husband is a sourdough connoisseur, and he was impressed by the sourdough pieces that came under this really light and tender piece of yellowtail. Then we got a bunch of rolls for the table, and every single role was completely different and unique in its own way! My favorite was probably the Simba, which was slightly smoky from the salmon, but had a good crunch in it from the crab and cucumber. The most interesting role we got was the rodeo which tasted exactly like a hamburger but in a sushi roll form. So unique and fun! Throughout the night, our server was incredible. She was really attentive and made really great recommendations. When she wasn't serving us directly, there were a number of other staff checking in on us bringing us our food bringing us our water, and it felt like you were really taking care of. We can't wait to head back to yoshitomo soon!

I've been wanting to go to Yoshitomo since they opened years ago. I don't normally go out for my birthday but I decided to this year, (it was last week). So I made reservations for a Wednesday and my brother in law and I went for some of the best sushi in the country. I made the reservation for the sushi bar, which is great for a first timer as you can see the talented chefs cut, slice, dice and make your dishes and everyone else's as well. After we walked in, which was right when they opened because I don't mess around, we were shown to our seats at the bar. Aesthetically, this place looks so nice, especially with the warmth of the wood on the tables catching your eye immediately upon walking in. Throughout the night, (we were there for about 2.5 hours), we ordered many small bites, sashimi, and a couple Chef's choice plates of sushi. Every......single......bite was amazing. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my time and this place is by far the best. The care they put into every thing they construct is amazing. And of course I got a few bottles of sake throughout my meal, which were all great as well. I want to go back.......like right now. I can't afford to go all out like I did my first time but I'm dang sure that I'm going to eat some amazing sushi no matter what. I'm waiting for a spot to open up for David's Omakase, but those spots are always booked. Fingers crossed!

The hostess was very kind as I walked in. Ambiance was nice but simple. It was interesting watching the sushi being made while sitting at the bar. I looked at yelp to decide what to order so that had me landing on the Hama toast and the simba roll.I felt like my roll was heavy on the spicey mayo so I just scraped it off, no big deal. They have this Hama toast that is Sourdough bread and it tastes like grilled cheese and sushi. I could've had a huge amount of it because was so good and unique. I let the server know I was driving to go to a concert so that had me in and out as fast as I would like.

As I've stated before, this is the best sushi in the Midwest!!! Hands down the best service, the best food, the best drink list! The best chefs and the best space, this is where you go when you want to feel like you stepped into a food magazine!

I still cannot believe that this restaurant is located in Omaha, Nebraska. The whole vibe of the restaurant makes me feel like I'm in LA or New York. The menu had such a wide variety for all taste buds - even if you aren't a fan of fish. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure to take our allergies and explained the menu really well. Everything we had there was SO well-made and you can taste the quality of the ingredients in the food. I ordered the abura miso and the taita roll - both were so delicious and I was so sad when I finished the food. It's by far one of the best sushi restaurants I've had.

It's hard to think of something unique or fresh to say about such a notable establishment. I'll simply say that my wife and I sat at the bar and were in awe of the work that went into our meals. Everything was superb. And the music playing was must have been from a turn of the century Omaha indie emo playlist. So good.

The food was decent but didn't find it to be anything special. Felt like they were trying to create an elevated experience but it fell short. The Hama toast is popular but the bread was so thick it was hard to taste the fish on top. The scallop dish was probably the best plate we tried.

I went here to celebrate my birthday and was very impressed. This is a very unassuming, yet sophisticated place for sushi and other unique creations. The prices are really not that bad for the upscale food and ambience. The staff is very friendly and even gave me a little surprise treat for my birthday. Our favorites on the menu include Hama Toast, Simba sushi roll, and Oni Egg. We will definitely come back!

The Fukui cocktail (cucumber vodka flavors) is a great pairing with the menu items. One thing I really enjoy about this restaurant is that you order as you go, so you never leave hungry and it's a safe bet that you won't over order. The wait staff will frequently check in on you and see if you need to order more. The Bunzai Buns (runza inspired) and Gyoza are my favorite options outside of the sushi. The atmosphere is well thought through - I enjoy how it is fairly dark in there, but the lights are shining so they are focused on the food. Can't recommend this restaurant enough!

We walked in at 5:15 PM, sat down, and the place was packed within minutes. Not an empty seat in sight--good timing on our part! Our server greeted us quickly, and after a quick look at the drink menu, we went all in with water, Coke Zero (YES, a Coke Zero establishment!), and a cocktail--the amusingly named Sex in Okinawa. No regrets. As the sushi train made its rounds, we grabbed a crab rangoon. It was tasty but had cooled off from its little journey, so we opted for a fresh batch from the kitchen. The spring rolls? Crispy, hot, and on point. I did have to ask for sriracha a few times (our server kept forgetting), but to be fair, they were busy, so I didn't hold it against them. One thing we noticed was that some of the sushi rolls lacked descriptions. A tiny sign with ingredients would be helpful. I am a sushi newbie, and I wasn't about to roll the dice on a Volcano Roll without knowing what was inside. For what I did try: California rolls - classic and exactly what you'd expect. Sexy jalapeño - surprisingly good! (If there was fish in there, I didn't notice.) Tempura sweet potato roll - crispy, slightly sweet, and a winner. Pro tip: They offer a veteran/military discount, but double-check your receipt--ours wasn't applied at first, but they fixed it without issue. Final bill: about $68, and let's be honest, a good chunk of that was drinks. Not bad for a fun dinner out! Would I go back? Absolutely. There's plenty more to try, and the atmosphere makes for a great night with friends. Final Verdict: Worth the ride!

But there is a James Beard-level recognized chef here, in Omaha, that is delivering fresh-tasting raw and other omakase dishes week after week - geography be damned. His name is David Utterback. It's incredibly difficult to get reservations at this eight-seat omakase called Ota. Moreso than any omakase in my hometown on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In fact, I dont think he needs this review - the best don't need to advertise. I also don't think we have a sushi chef here in Hawaii that is as nationally-acclaimed as Utterback. So we were very interested to try. And we were very lucky to get reservations. I dont think there is a parking lot for this restaurant, which is tucked within his also highly-regarded Yoshitomo restaurant. So if you from Hawaii like me, and get lucky with the reservations, gotta roll da dice on parallel street parking. That's code for come early ;) (parking is free in the area) W-h-e-n you do arrive at Yoshitomo, there is a small - hidden - waiting area within Yoshitomo where you will be asked to wait for the omakase to begin. The dark photo with the lantern and Ota sign is in that waiting room. - And frankly - That's all that needs to be shown in a photo cause the omakase course itself varies depending on chef's tastes and what's available that week. The courses we had will likely not be the entirety of the courses you have. But the rice might be the same. There is a special black vinegar that chef uses to add to the rice. Ask him about it. There is a whole story behind it ;) So my photos are small in number. They are the highlights of our experience and what stood out to me that is beyond anything I've tried in Hawaii or elsewhere (including the black-vinegar sushi rice) Enjoy - cause we most certainly did :)
