This is our new favorite Japanese restaurant. They have several varieties of Asian food, and so far?. They have great sushi, great service, quick seating, and a great sushi bar. The only rough spot is that it's quite popular. One must arrive early or call to find out when the next wave of diners might be departing. The staff. From greeting to departure, we have felt welcome and appreciated. Not sucked-up-to. Appreciated. It's like they dig what they're doing. Feels great. This is doubly true for us when dining at the bar. We had a great conversation with the gent serving, and enjoyed him nearly as much as the meal. The fish. So fresh. So tasty. Soft. Perfectly cut. Mmm. Parking is pretty simple. Plenty of space behind the building. Chill neighborhood, too. Felt quite safe. At some point, I need to try some of the many other types of Japanese cuisine, Chinese cuisine, and Thai cuisine. We had the shishito peppers and the edamame to start with- both very good and I would order again We ordered three rolls- the Out of Control roll is aptly named- it was a flavor bomb of all things sushi- I could have eaten another one just on my own. There's plenty of parking in the oddly shaped lot and it was doing a fair amount of business while we were there. We decided to try Unami after seeing so many positive reviews, and it did not disappoint. We stuck with our usual go-to rolls--California roll, salmon, tuna, etc. - and everything was fresh, tasted good, and very reasonably priced. They also have a pretty wide menu beyond sushi, including Thai and Chinese dishes, which is a nice if you're dining with people who want something different. The only downside for us is the location- it's a bit of a drive from where we are. Otherwise, we'd probably find ourselves going more often. read more

Oh my GOSH, this is one of the best sushi restaurants in the Omaha area!!! Way better pricing than Blue and Hiro! The lunch special was 2 rolls for 11.50 OR 3 rolls for 14.50! The server was so kind and quick to get our drinks, tea and food order in! It's a very laid back spot, very quiet over the lunch hour during the week. This place is bussin! I'm a huge fan of their lunch bento box special. It's very economical and comes with a few sides and a main protein, very filling. I'm always treated well when I come in, and as a regular they even remember my name! I tried this place for the first time after hearing a lot about it! It is a quick drive from Omaha and although it was busy, we got seated immediately. They have plenty of seating and very attentive service. They have quite an extensive menu featuring many different Asian cuisines. I tried the salmon flight which was great value as it comes with soup and salad of your choice along with soy salmon, smoked salmon, first salmon and spicy salmon roll. I enjoyed the spicy salmon roll with crunch tempura topping! The sashimi was pretty fresh and buttery. I must begin this by saying that I am a new convert to Japanese, Thai, and Chinese cuisine after traveling to Eastern Asia on a few work trips. I do not seek out these options, but Umami is a new favorite near the AF base. There is such a wide choice of options at a good price. They serve Thai, Japanese and Chinese and include a large selection of sushi. Thru Umami, I've found I like thick noodles and really enjoy the variety of options. Service was fast but not hovering. The decor is American (?)...lots of tvs with sports on. (Thumbsup!) I used to say that if I got stationed in Asia that I'd starve due to my food aversions. Sushi & sashimi for two is $62 for a good deal ( you get 10 pc sushi , 10 pc sashimi, plus a crunchy roll , dynamite roll and manhattan roll ) . I ordered a blue drink cocktail for $10 . There was a line when we arrived at 6:50 pm but we got to sit down after 10 minute wait . My only complaint is that the wooden floor is slippery ( waxed ? ) plus some water on here here and there ( ice cubes that were dropped on the floor ) . I really enjoy Umami. I've been in a handful of times and have never had a bad experience. I don't think their sushi is the best in the Omaha metro area, but it is good. I came during lunch on my most recent visit and got a Bento Box. This is definitely what I'll be getting going forward! The salmon was delicious and I really enjoyed the soup, salad, and gyoza too. Mediocre at Best I had high hopes for Umami given the strong reviews, but my experience was underwhelming. I ordered the Thai yellow curry, which came with a choice of sides--I went with white rice and miso soup. The curry itself was under-seasoned and unexpectedly came with tofu. The miso soup was fine, but I was surprised by how small the portion of rice was--definitely not enough to balance out the big bowl of curry. I also ordered the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy mango shrimp roll. The flavors weren't terrible, but they didn't stand out either. What really caught me off guard was the lettuce inside the shrimp tempura rolls--something I've never seen before. Not necessarily bad, just different and a little off-putting. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, but overall, the food didn't live up to the hype. It wasn't awful, just not memorable. Not sure I'd come back. read more

We went on a Friday afternoon around 5 PM, but for a more intimate experience, I'd recommend going at a quieter time. Be sure to call ahead and book in advance! It's always a great time here in umami. I especially love their sashimi and raw seafood. They're one of the best that I've had in and near Omaha area. We normally get a classic roll and two specials but their classics were not super exciting so we just got 3 specials and they were all decently priced! My sister liked them all but I truly felt like they all fell flat. My favorite was the 1504 Bellevue Roll because it was the most fun and interesting. The rest just didn't have enough flavor for me. We ordered from Umami through a delivery service tonight. We've ordered from them before and thought the food was wonderful. But this time they surpassed themselves in service as well as in the tastiness of the food. My daughter has a gluten allergy that can affect the quality of her life a lot. The fact that you can indicate a gluten allergy on the order page is wonderful. But then, even better, the restaurant called us to let us know a couple of the items we had ordered could not be made gluten-free. Did we want to change them? And a couple of the dishes required components on the side in order to be GF. Did we want them to do that? When the food arrived, all gluten-free dishes were clearly labeled.
