Seated immediately at a community table. Its a restaurant with two sections. One side for sushi and one side for grill. This is a teppanyaki style restaurant. They take your order and the chef comes to the grill with their sauces and raw ingredients and puts up a show for you. This style of reataurant is common in asia. Its not exactly the same as in Asia as most teppanyaki reataurants would have steamed egg. Vegetables, steak were all very well cooked ie. Just nice Hubby ordered his steak medium rare and it came out like that. The sushi i ordered was delicious. Spider roll crunchy and delicious. The salmon sushi i ordered perfectly fresh. Delicious. I have enjoyed myself thoroughly. Salad was a little plain and soup was just clear soup w some mushrooms and green onions. Star of the show was the chef. We had Bat. i have to say service we experienced today is fantastic. Each time a server walks past and sees your drink bordering on empty, they will ask if you want a refill. We had a wonderful time. It's always a fun experience at shogun. The chefs presentation was entertaining. He used humor, whit and a ton of skill. The chicken is a solid go to on a budget. My party ordered steak, fish, and fillet mignon. I sampled them all. Frankly the chicken was my favorite. Then there is the fried rice! This is really the star of the show. I really liked the food and the cook/chef. I also really liked our server. Her name is Linn and she was super nice and I really liked her and so did my family. She was really nice and sweet. We went here for a birthday and had a large party so we ended up with an entire area to ourselves with 2 different chefs. The service and the 'show' on the grill were great. The sushi and drinks were also great. When it came to the food off of the hibachi grill (both grills), it was loaded with sodium. Let me say, I actually love salt/sodium - I love it so much that I probably consume a very unhealthy amount of it. I honestly could hardly eat my filet. My husband had the steak and his was also extremely salty. Also note that the steak was more tender than the filet, which was rather chewy. So if you absolutely love sodium, more than a typical sodium lover, save your self some money and get the steak instead of the filet. The scallops were good, but also salty along with the fried rice. I wish I would've saved myself more money and stuck with steamed rice instead of paying the additional $4.50 for fried rice. I'd rate this more like a 2.5. read more

If you want to be called a LIAR come here. Loyal patrons for 15years and WON'T be returning after today. If you have been before, you know the plates are usually piled high full of food. My daughter ordered a kids shrimp meal and got only 4 pieces of shrimp yet everyone who didn't order shrimp got 2 pieces (they said as "appetizers" but the two people who ordered shrimp did not get this appetizer). Then the cook tried taking a piece of shrimp OFF MY DAUGHTER'S PLATE to throw into SOMEONE ELSE'S MOUTH. I stopped that and asked him to let my daughter eat it. One member of our party's plate was 1/4 of the serving size compared to everyone else and received teriyaki chicken when she ordered hibachi chicken. When I notified the manager the cook came back and called me a liar. After arguing with me he came back with more shrimp and apologized but no other compensation was provided. No apology from the manager either. As a manager in the food & hospitality industry for over 10 years this is completely unacceptable. We won't be back. read more

We went here for my Grandsons 8th Birthday, we had reservations at 6 pm, we were right on time, someone else came in and they were told it would be 30 minutes. After they got our table cleaned, they took the other group to our table, so we ended up being the group that had to wait 30 minutes. They put 6 more people at our grill so we ended up with 13 total (way too many). Chef came out to start cooking and we had not even had our soup yet. In the past the chef was very entertaining, this one was not, did not throw eggs up into his hat, had a very small onion valcano, threw very few shimp for us to catch, did not have enough noodles, very disappointed. This visit was so much better than the first visit. Today, we attended dinner vs lunch and it seems the top hibachi chefs were on their A game tonight. Our chef had new tricks, incorporated some magic and added new humor bits I have not seen before at other hibachi places nationwide. I enjoyed the entertainment, the quality of food, and the presentation. Service with drinks, order taking, and getting a take out box was very timely. Went for dinner, shocked since they didn't say anywhere that they add gratuity for over 7 people which included 2 kids, we would of split the bill had we known, then they swiped our card 10 times and charged us $429.00 10 times and didn't refund us our money until 4 months later since the credit card company had to investigate it when Shogun wouldn't just refund the 9 times they overcharged us! Well for a while my love/hate relationship was leaning on the love side. I was turned away from the restaurant when they weren't even close to being busy. I offered to eat on the sushi side (they cook it and bring it to you. They don't need a full table) but they refused. I do this all the time. I glanced at the reservation sheet and it wasn't full either. It was just rude I just don't know what to expect from them. I think I'll just go to the buffet for a while. read more

The live-show hibachi grill is a must-see if you have never been, they bring fun and comedic elements to the grill that create an enjoyable atmosphere. I have a seafood allergy which we told them about when we got there. We could either sit in the dining room separate from everyone else's food or get a seat at a Teppanyaki table where no seafood would be prepared. They said we were fine and to seated us at a Teppanyaki table. Well, most everything prepared on the grill was seafood. I told them I could not eat the food and they went to the back to prepare other food for me, as the Chef threw Shrimp into the rice on my plate and picked it out with his spatula. Then as we got the check, I did not eat my food by the way, I was told that nothing actually touched my food, so we were expected to pay for the meal I did not eat. The Health Department is going to have to take care of this one. read more

The Chef's are typically good but the hosts and servers aren't very attentive. The set up of the restaurant is a little odd like you're blocked off in a weird section. I paid for a full dinner. And the waiter said she put the sauces and dressing un there as well. Great. I got home and only found the entrees. No miso nor salad. Had the dressing for salad ×2. I called and found a confrontational person on the other end who told me they NEVER give salad and soup with to go orders. Not so, I pointed out. He was rude in telling me I was mistaken. Top 5 worst restaurants I have ever been too. First thing when walking in, the lobby was a mess with guests scattered everywhere. No organization to the madness. The food itself was garbage. Way over priced, chicken was gummy and flavorless. After your food is made, someone comes by and cleans the grills. The smell coming off of the grill was nauseating. Couldn't even enjoy the meal the smell was so bad. Save your money and make food at your house. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Shogun needs competition so they have to improve. They have gone down hill so much. Portions are smaller and prices are much higher. Atmosphere was dirty and dishonest. The waitress and chef were fine. They automatically add 18% for a party of two and then asked again for another tip! I decided to take my 11 year daughter because so many friends said it was great and she would enjoy the show the chef puts on. We showed up right around 130pm and the place was not busy. The hostess was unfriendly and actually down right rude when we asked for drinks besides water. Only got to look at the menu for 1 minute before she asked for our order. I wanted to order sushi but did even get the chance to look at the sushi menu. We felt VERY rushed by her!! The chef showed up about 10 minutes later and literally said NOTHING to us the entire time we were seated. Whatever "show" people talk about we did not get it. I will say that the food tasted wonderful but we were still eating when the rude hostess showed back up with boxes and the check. We were LITERALLY still eating!!! This hibachi is pretty standard what you would expect as far as entertainment goes--fun, flashy showmanship and expert egg tossers (haha) but the food was exceptional. Expect to spend good money here--around $25-$30 a plate after drinks and fried rice are included in your meal. But it is well worth it for the awesome taste and the entertainment value read more

Where to begin... I ordered a vodka martini dirty, we all know what that is right?? Should be a little cloudy with some olives in a martini glass. What came to me was a martini glass with salt around the rim?!?? And the liquid was brown like rum. The waitress was sweet and said I know this isn't right but she made me bring it for you to try and I've had other guest say it was completely wrong as well. Who is this bartender that is the craziest thing I have heard in awhile. So I said forget it I will just order one of the martinis from your list, it was a cucumber vodka martini. If you check out the picture it came in a hurricane glass which stumped me since it was a martini. All in all it was dead no one around food hit the spot but I've had better and please don't ever order a drink there!! read more

I really like sushi but Lincoln has never been the best place to get it so my trips out for the raw stuff have not been regular. Despite recommendations from friends, I had still never been to Shogun. We decided to give it a try since I got sick from my last trip to Tokyo, Ribfest was going on down by Pershing meaning parking would be impossible for Wasabi, and I had only recently gone to O Yummy. Shogun is a lot larger than I had imagined. When you enter, you walk into a large room filled with tables as well as the sushi bar to your left and the enormous bar for drinks to the right. Back, further to the right are a couple of rooms where the grill you can sit around and watch the show of having your food prepare is located. We sat near the sushi bar. Like I said, the place is big, but unfortunately it wasn't big enough to shield you from the shouting and yelling coming from WAY across the restaurant. There was a party enjoying the grill and they would scream, shout, and clap every time the chef performed a trick - and the show lasted a LONG time. The sushi was surprisingly good but the menu definitely caters to the tastes of Lincoln, NE. One of the rolls I ordered was the eel but it ended up being more like a California roll instead of Unagi. The names of the rolls are cheesy and I suppose designed to appeal to young, South Lincoln: "Sex and City roll," "Playboy roll," "Hole in One roll." For the record, the "Victoria's Secret" was very good. The place seemed a little run down - for example, the Formica on our table top was chipped... with as many tables as were open, sitting us at a broken one was a miss. Verdict: the Sushi was good (not great) and worth a return trip on my part to sample some other items. The atmosphere was okay but could use some help. read more

Unfortunately Lincoln is limited in many areas, including really good Japanese. Shogun is basically a really bad stereotype and poorly prepared food. Firstly, the hibachi chefs are awful. After three visits, I've been left completely disappointed by their ability to cook and entertain. It's about a 3 to 4 trick show and you're done. Food is cooked quickly and you're out of there- with a lighter wallet. That gets me to price. I'm used to paying when going to a Japanese restaurant. But, over 20$ for a 6oz streak and a handful of shrimp is pathetic. I rarely speak about price on yelp, but this spot offers little for a lot. Sushi is OK, not my favorite place in Lincoln, but it will do. Stick to the basics here, don't assume that they are completely adapt at a variety of rolls. Overall, I'd stay away from here- but if you can't make it to Omaha or somewhere better. Give it a shot. read more

First time eating at this Japanese grill in your face. We were seated within 5 min on a Sunday night around 7 PM. Outer dining room was empty while the back traditional grill room was 1/2 full. We had menus and water right away and asked if we needed anything from the bar. In about 5 minutes our waitress was back taking our orders. I ordered the Filet w/ Shrimp. Top cut Filet Mignon with about 8-10 shrimp with a side of fried rice. You also get your traditional stir-fry of vegetables. Steak was cooked to medium rare. Within a few minutes I had a huge pile of rice on my plate cooked perfectly. Then the veggies came, al dente, seasoned just right. Steak was so tender I could cut it with my fork. Just a delicious, fun experience for my birthday. Would definitely return if I could afford it. Lol. If you haven't been, you have to try it once. I caught both shrimp launched at me by the chef. read more
