Update: 5/5 stars every time. I based my trips to Lincoln on the Graduate so I could have dinner and the buffet breakfast in the Single Barrel. The cocktails are truly fire and the waitresses and waiters are superb. TVs typically have the latest sports game, so great place to have a nice meal while maintaining a casual atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant to every person I know going to Lincoln. I miss it so much as I no longer have this territory. One day again! read more

If you're looking for a great steak in Lincoln, this is your place! I've been here a couple of times now. Both times are sat at the bar and had great I've had the ribeye, and the fillet. Fun little bar and restaurant in the Graduate hotel in Haymarket. We were walking back to our parking garage spot after a game on Black Friday and saw the sign in front that says "bourbon & steaks" on the front of the building and figured we couldn't go wrong here. We popped into the bar, but there's a restaurant too, and you can get food in the bar area. I got the bananas bourbon, it was sweet but not too much banana. My husband got the fool's gold which was a lemon inspired drink. Moderately priced, they had a fair bourbon selection with most of the classics. Yum! I love to stop in here before a basketball game or when I'm down in the Haymarket. You've gotta start things off right, with a Stack for the table. Their fries are the perfect crispness, and the béarnaise sauce, cheese, and pulled pork makes for an irresistible appetizer. I'm also a big fan of their burgers. Passing through going to Chicago we want to try steak in NE. This is the only one open on Sunday since it is attached to a hotel. The place has a casual setting and it looks realy nice and clean. The hostess is really nice. Its brunch but we are here for steaks . They have lunch options as well which are mostly sandwiches. We ordered the bone-in ribeye which I shared with my hubby and NY steak which has one free side. We got the mac n cheese and caesar salad. You have to pay for the butter but only $2 choices include bone marrow butter and smoked four roses. We really enjoyed the steak. It does not show on the picture but had the right flavor and juiciness. Cooked perfectly the way we wanted it. Added the butter we ordered and perfect! MacNCheese is yummy too. Single barrel is one of the most underrated restaurants in Lincoln for me. Their barbecue is delish and pretty fairly priced for the quality that you're getting. The service has always been helpful and I haven't ever seen the restaurant too full which makes it easier to get your food quickly. Took awhile but we found a steak in the Haymaker District so had to go! We didn't know at the time that Single Barrel was in a hotel so perhaps had too high of expectations. The first taste of that was after we sipped our Manhattan's a couple times and were asked how they tasted. We said they were wonderful and we got "Of course they are, I made them". That's the tone that was kept throughout our meal! A little off putting but attentive! The food took forever! We thought at one point they perhaps lost our order but then the microwaved chicken dip and stale chips finally came! An eternity later our steak and salmon arrived. Steak was very unevenly cooked and lukewarm, wouldn't even melt the butter! The shrimp skewer was cold, the salmon was undercooked and barely room temp and the parsnip puree was not even one bites worth! I visited this place two days in a row, I was determined to give them a second chance after my first meal was during their happy hour and I had to try a real meal. Happy Hour. Fantastic Specials! Well the price was fantastic anyway. They servings were huge, I just didn't like anything I ordered. We got the truffle chips and some kind of brisket fries, both were overly greasy and i guess you can say "rich". Dinner the next day. I wanted some of that Omaha Beef! I didn't fully trust them enough to order a ribeye that was $48, so I settled with an easy sirloin for $30. I ordered it medium to medium rare, simple enough for a steak house you'd think. The ambiance is pretty low key. Not really an intimate dining experience. The bar is really well stocked if you are into bourbons/whiskey's. Not so much if you're into tequilas. I was here for lunch. The menu is a bit limited. My 6 oz. filet was cooked to perfection, rare and still mooing! The bartender is pretty worked up and talkative. My draft beer and a shot went well with my meal. We were a party of six with a 5:30 reservation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere just didn't feel welcoming. We were so excited to try the Omaha ribeye and steaks, but unfortunately, the entire experience was disappointing -- both the food and the service. The steak was overcooked, even after being remade. The rice was hard and honestly not acceptable to serve. The Caesar salad was just okay, despite the waiter's strong recommendation because the dressing was "homemade." It really wasn't anything special. Service felt uncoordinated from start to finish -- from the host stand to the server to the manager. Stopped by the SB on a stop through town with a work colleague. We started with really, really good mixed drinks: I had an old-fashioned and he had a dirty (nasty) Martini. Both fabulous! We started with corn fritters and cornbread. The cornbread came with 3 spreads, my favorite being the jalapeño honey. For entrees, we had a bone in ribeye with sour cream mashed potatoes and the 8oz filet with Mac n cheese. I am not convinced my filet was 8oz as it looked much, much closer to a 6oz. For dessert, we had a chocolate lava mouse cake and caramel apple cheesecake. Both delicious. The 4 stars have more to do with the amazing service and apps than anything else. For an entree, I ordered the Butter Ribeye. It was fantastic! So delicious! The truffle butter really added to the steak and made it sooo good. Stopped in for lunch today and we were surprised that there were only two other tables seated, who both left soon after. I ordered the chili ($11) as an appetizer hoping that it wasn't just an expensive cup of chili; that wasn't a problem because it never came and the server admitted that she'd forgotten to put it in. She asked if I wanted to order it when she brought my meal, but I declined, confused as to how it could be forgotten with absolutely no one else in the restaurant. I ordered the picanha (medium rare) with brisket rice; it came rare (purple inside). The brisket rice was fantastic and my gf's adult Mac n cheese was very good, as well. The chimichurri was more like a pesto sauce and I couldn't get over how rare the meat was. Then, in the middle of our conversation, the server began vacuuming. It was extremely loud and we couldn't even hear each other talking. We were both dumbfounded. Why did the vacuum need to be done right then, approximately 1:30? We decided to just pay our check and leave. No quality control check, no table touch, nor an apology for the noise. She just placed my check on the counter and walked away. I love eating at Single Barrel. As a resident of the Haymarket, I have been a regular since they moved to The Graduate Hotel. Food and service is always top notch. Today was an exception to the norm. I called to inquire about an order for delivery. The listing on Google.com lists "no contact delivery" as an option. I was informed by the man who answered the phone that they don't deliver or use any particular delivery app/service but they have had delivery services pick up orders there before. This answer confused me, because a restaurant has to be established with a delivery service in order for them to pick up orders for customers. When I tried to ask how this would work, he cut me off mid-sentence saying "thank you" and hung up. Frustrating to be treated like that, but I was determined to patronize this business anyway so I investigated through Uber Eats, Post Mates l, GrubHub, Menufy and Door Dash on how a person can order delivery from a non-participating restaurant. This does not appear to be an option. I could put in a request to ask them to work with Single Barrel to be an option, but there isn't a way for me to actually order from them if they're not a participating restaurant. I decided to call back and speak to a manager. I thought maybe the manager would be more patient and understanding with me than the person answering the phone. But, I found out that the person that I spoke to earlier who was so eager to get off the phone with me is actually the manager. He did apologize for hanging up on me, but was unable to provide any further feedback how delivery services have picked up food from the restaurant before. It was clear that my inquiry about purchasing food to be delivered was definitely irritating him and so I just ended the conversation and will order elsewhere. Every other restaurant in the Haymarket participates with a delivery service and I've even had a couple that have walked my order over for me because I'm so close by. I would like to gently suggest that this restaurant looks into options on how it can deliver to residents, workers and travelers in the Haymarket. It's an excellent way to add to their business. There are so many different apps that they could partner with. Perhaps, they could even have a server to make deliveries within a certain block radius, given how many hotels and apartments, offices, lofts and condos are in the area. I still recommend the menu and supporting local by going to eat at Single Barrel, it is terrific food. Just note that you cannot order a delivery of any kind and that the manager doesn't seem to enjoy helping people over the phone. read more

We had the Ribeye with dirty rice, Filet with mac n cheese, a couple of beers and wine. There is nothing to criticize about them considering how tricky it is to prepare a few items exactly right (temperature, texture, etc.). They came to the table as anticipated and delivered. The service is quite good. Our servers were there at the right place and time. What more can you ask? I cannot say it is loaded with ambience. Forget the leather, wallpaper, and carpet. It is a big open space with floors and a high ceiling. It was clean and well lit. Keep in mind steak is not cheap. So, just have an enjoyable time. read more

The burgers were so bland and everything else was ovvveeeerrr salted. Could only eat a couple bites of the stack, appetizer due to the amount of salt. Burgers were probably cooked from frozen. They were terribly bad and bland with a hint of freezer burn. Service was brutal slow went to the bar to order drinks and the bar tender said you will have to get them from your server. Very much not impressed with this price. It is billed as a great steakhouse, but isn't much better than a Restaurant attached to a hotel. It has loud music through cheap speakers, poor service, and decent food. Note - decent food. For a steakhouse there is no bread service, they gave me truffle butter on the steak instead of the bone butter advertised on the menu. I don't care for truffle, (the server claimed that it was the bone butter and later come back and say that he was sorry, they ran out of bone butter and had used truffle butter). I ordered the steak as a medium rare, but it came at medium. Overall, the atmosphere and experience was not what I would expect or look for at a quality steakhouse. This restaurant is located inside The Graduate Hotel in Lincoln, NE. Parking is not great. If the Haymarket parking area is taken, I would suggest parking in the Graduate Hotel garage. Be careful because the parking structure is tight and large vehicles will have problems navigating inside the structure. Once you are in, take the elevator to the lobby level and follow inside the Graduate Hotel until you see the restaurant. There is a bar section separated by a dining area. The food is pretty decent from sandwiches to steaks. The Chicken dip is an excellent start as an appetizer and has a good bite to it. I ordered a Ruben Sandwich and requested a substitution of bread, which they gladly performed along with a side of fries. Service was very good and the ambiance is very casual except on Husker football days. Overall, a good meal to have near the University of Nebraska and Haymarket. read more
