    BRAISED SHORT RIB
    Nicole L.

We stayed at the Scarlet Hotel and grabbed dinner there Sunday night. Sat on the patio with our dog and enjoyed the beautiful night with some dinner and drinks. I got the short rib and my husband got a steak wedge salad. And we got a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. Our server was awesome. He was very nice and gave good tips on choices - including a delicious bread pudding!

Over the past 8 days I have eaten dinner at Well & Good three times. Here's my experience overall and then some notes by course/menu item. The first thing to know is that this is the only restaurant in a 2/3 of a mile radius and it is part of a hotel so expect to pay 20-25% more than you would for the same food at a Lincoln restaurant that is in another part of town and not part of a hotel. The ambiance of the restaurant and hotel are nice. It sports a relaxing atmosphere, good chairs, and outside of game day you can have a romantic or business dinner without having to strain to hear the conversation at your table. I had three different servers, each was knowledgeable and took their job seriously while being light and upbeat. Irving was especially good. Our 3 course meals took between 2 and 3 hours, the food came out at a good pace, not much waiting. I've given Well & Good 3 stars because each time I went there something wasn't optimal (meal 1: somewhat disappointing 12 oz steak; meal 2: cheesecake that was a mousse; meal 3: over-cooked filet Mignon). However I'd expect that if I went back a 4th time I could now have a 4 star experience (not a 5 star though due to the price points on the entrees). For me, that optimal experience would be: - Start: Brussels sprouts and relish tray. - Entree: Filet Mignon (medium or medium rare) with Broccolini (request less char). - Get the pie or tiramisu for dessert. It should not take 3 dinners to figure out how to optimize the dining experience at a restaurant at these price points. Below are notes on individual items: Appetizers: House Bread Basket: seems to change based on what is available, from chocolate chip zucchini/banana break to cornbread. The sweetbread was good but a bit odd. The cornbread dry but good with the whipped herb butter. Supper Club Relish Tray: light and delicious. Calamari: fried with onions and peppers added, good but over-fried. Sides: Broccolini: very good, excellent if you ask them to not char it, romesco sauce is also good. Spinach: good, a bit salty. Caramelized Brussels Sprouts: excellent, probably the best item on the menu. Truffle Fries: these were fine. Salads: Seasonal Mix Greens: just okay Wedge salad: this was popular with my dinner guests, I did not try it. Steaks & Entrees: Piedmontese Ribeye 12 oz: just okay, somewhat stringy in places, seasoning was simple. Au Poivre sauce was good. Center Cut Filet Mignon 8 oz: very good provided they can cook it to your request. My medium had no redness in it and was a bit dry. They cooked another one for me and this second one was excellent. Citrus Butter Salmon: very nice glaze, salmon was fine and a good sized portion, but the succotash was fine but under-thought-out. Wood Roasted Eggplant: I did not have this but a table-mate of mine said it was terrible and did not finish it. He ended up eating the supper club tray instead. Desserts: Apple Gouda & Sage Pie: very good crust, a solid dessert. Mint chocolate cheesecake: not a cheesecake, more like a chocolate mousse, it was fine. Chocolate cake with caramel: beautiful to look at, as a cake it was good. Tiramisu: good flavor, good portion size. Creme Brulee: if you really like amaretto this is the one for you, eat more than two of these and you might need to take an Uber home. PS my images would not load so I'm going to post and then add them by editing

Cacio e Pepe. I divided the steak. Portions very small.

Pricey for what you receive. The Cacio e Pepe was served barely warm and was cold by the time I finished the small portion. Our server recommended to add the steak. It was very good and cooked perfectly rare to order. VERY salty. Served warmer than my pasta. My husband ordered the Salmon Tartare and it was very good. We had the Tiramisu for dessert. Very small portion in a tiny ramekin. Our server didn't come back to refill beverages. People were dressed very casual so there really isn't a dress code.

Superb service! This restaurant is located inside the Scarlet hotel on the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus. Came here for breakfast as hotel guest and the service was above and beyond. Had a yogurt bowl with fresh berries and egg omelet with a side of potatoes. The interior is stylish and I'm glad to enjoy a peaceful and wholesome morning time here as a start of day!

The Blueprint and the Cucumber Gimlet
    Deanna D.

The servers were all exceptionally friendly and attentive. The drinks were divine after a day of travel! The gimlet was fresh and limey. Perfection. My husband enjoyed the Blueprint and followed it with the Sazerac. Dinner was delicious. The braised ribs were tops. The serving was huge and the jus was rich. I'd order them again in a heartbeat. The beet salad looked amazing and my husband reported he'd get it again too. We went on a slow night, which worked out great because it was quiet. The booths here are huge and look like they'd be a festive place to celebrate with close friends.

Great place to go for a date night in such a cool hotel. I really like how most of the stuff on their menu was locally sourced and it was definitely evident in the taste. We were in the bar area so service was a little slow but I'm sure it would be top tier in the actual dining area due to how nice everyone was.

    Spicy blueberry margarita

Nice ambiance, great food and great staff! I chose to have the fine herbs French fries with garlic ailo as an appetizer so good. My entree was Eggplant Parmesan which was delicious and for dessert I chose the chocolate fudge espresso cake. Thanks to Cody,Nick, my friendly and attentive waitress Riley. The Blueberry Margarita was amazing thanks to bartender Sruthi! I will come back for sure!

Slow service, food was nothing spectacular. Maybe they were having a down day after the busy Husker weekend?

Inconsistent food, can be great and can be dry / poorly prepared. More times than not, it was not very good for the cost.

Every time I've eaten at the Scarlet Hotel restaurant, something on the menu is unavailable. Not good value, either.

Fabulous lunch on a game day! The bison burger was perfect and the potatoes were amazing. We'll definitely be back.

I'm going to agree with many of the reviews regarding service. They have a serious server issue. I'm not sure why they are so short staffed. They are right next to a university so they should be able to hire plenty of servers but the night we came in for drinks, only 1 server and the bartenders and a manager were running around trying to take care of the customers. Even so, several customers including us had to go to the bar for service. Customers were not happy. We sat at a table adjacent to the bar so we could watch the NHL draft. The bar was packed both inside and out. The bar is very nice with large TV's and plenty of nice table seating inside and out. With all the service issues being said, the bartender did take very good care of us and even though the wrong drinks were delivered, she comped them and made us new drinks which were delicious. The bartender constantly checked on us and we never saw the server except when she delivered the chips & dip we ordered. I'm going to give The Barred Owl 3 stars because it is a beautiful restaurant with a great outdoor patio. The bartender's were working their tails off to service the crowd and our drinks were good.m I can't comment in the food since we just had a snack. Management has a serious problem to work through regarding staffing and service but if they can fix that it should be a great spot.

Got a couple drinks and saw some other guests food arriving so we opted to cancel our dinner plans and stick around for food as well. Have zero regrets! The short rib totchos were SO GOOD. The truffle fries (yes we like potatoes) and the bee and the butcher flatbread were also great! The flatbread was so cheesy it was amazing! Would definitely recommend! And come back if we're back in Lincoln again!

I didn't drink, but my friends had lots of lovely concoctions floating around. We shared the Parmesan Sirloin Fondue as an appetizer and WOW--this was a favorite. The house-made green chile cheese dip is basically a spicy, savory roux topped with crispy steak tips. It was rich, a little spicy, and incredibly satisfying. I really loved this and would absolutely order it again. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan, and it came with a nice, thick piece of chicken--always appreciated. The San Marzano tomato sauce was good and flavorful, and the dish was well-balanced overall. I'm a little picky about breading, and I didn't love it but flavor-wise it's spot on. I had total plate envy for the teriyaki steak bowl. It looks phenomenal and I will definitely be ordering that next time. One friend had the Moody Bleu Burger (without the jalapeños) and said it was still a bit spicy but tasty overall. Another friend ordered the Veggie Burger, and she said it was really good. She often orders veggie burgers and felt this one held its own. Someone else at the table compared it to the veggie burger at Leadbelly, with high praise. The Bistro Burger was also a hit flavor-wise--Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and mushrooms worked well together--but the only downside was that the bottom bun got pretty soggy. Fleetwood is definitely worth checking out, and it's a little bit tricky to find, but it's right under the bridges under O St.
