Over the past 8 days I have eaten dinner at Well & Good three times. Here's my experience overall and then some notes by course/menu item. The first thing to know is that this is the only restaurant in a 2/3 of a mile radius and it is part of a hotel so expect to pay 20-25% more than you would for the same food at a Lincoln restaurant that is in another part of town and not part of a hotel. The ambiance of the restaurant and hotel are nice. It sports a relaxing atmosphere, good chairs, and outside of game day you can have a romantic or business dinner without having to strain to hear the conversation at your table. I had three different servers, each was knowledgeable and took their job seriously while being light and upbeat. Irving was especially good. Our 3 course meals took between 2 and 3 hours, the food came out at a good pace, not much waiting. I've given Well & Good 3 stars because each time I went there something wasn't optimal (meal 1: somewhat disappointing 12 oz steak; meal 2: cheesecake that was a mousse; meal 3: over-cooked filet Mignon). However I'd expect that if I went back a 4th time I could now have a 4 star experience (not a 5 star though due to the price points on the entrees). For me, that optimal experience would be: - Start: Brussels sprouts and relish tray. - Entree: Filet Mignon (medium or medium rare) with Broccolini (request less char). - Get the pie or tiramisu for dessert. It should not take 3 dinners to figure out how to optimize the dining experience at a restaurant at these price points. Below are notes on individual items: Appetizers: House Bread Basket: seems to change based on what is available, from chocolate chip zucchini/banana break to cornbread. The sweetbread was good but a bit odd. The cornbread dry but good with the whipped herb butter. Supper Club Relish Tray: light and delicious. Calamari: fried with onions and peppers added, good but over-fried. Sides: Broccolini: very good, excellent if you ask them to not char it, romesco sauce is also good. Spinach: good, a bit salty. Caramelized Brussels Sprouts: excellent, probably the best item on the menu. Truffle Fries: these were fine. Salads: Seasonal Mix Greens: just okay Wedge salad: this was popular with my dinner guests, I did not try it. Steaks & Entrees: Piedmontese Ribeye 12 oz: just okay, somewhat stringy in places, seasoning was simple. Au Poivre sauce was good. Center Cut Filet Mignon 8 oz: very good provided they can cook it to your request. My medium had no redness in it and was a bit dry. They cooked another one for me and this second one was excellent. Citrus Butter Salmon: very nice glaze, salmon was fine and a good sized portion, but the succotash was fine but under-thought-out. Wood Roasted Eggplant: I did not have this but a table-mate of mine said it was terrible and did not finish it. He ended up eating the supper club tray instead. Desserts: Apple Gouda & Sage Pie: very good crust, a solid dessert. Mint chocolate cheesecake: not a cheesecake, more like a chocolate mousse, it was fine. Chocolate cake with caramel: beautiful to look at, as a cake it was good. Tiramisu: good flavor, good portion size. Creme Brulee: if you really like amaretto this is the one for you, eat more than two of these and you might need to take an Uber home. Pricey for what you receive. The Cacio e Pepe was served barely warm and was cold by the time I finished the small portion. Our server recommended to add the steak. It was very good and cooked perfectly rare to order. VERY salty. Served warmer than my pasta. My husband ordered the Salmon Tartare and it was very good. We had the Tiramisu for dessert. Very small portion in a tiny ramekin. Our server didn't come back to refill beverages. People were dressed very casual so there really isn't a dress code. read more

Superb service! This restaurant is located inside the Scarlet hotel on the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus. Came here for breakfast as hotel guest and the service was above and beyond. We ate here because we were staying in the Scarlet hotel. Surprisingly, the food here is excellent. My husband and his colleague were super-pleased with their steaks, while I loved my walleye and my girlfriend said her scallops were terrific. Cocktails were also solid. The restaurant is in a rather strange and sterile part of Lincoln, with nothing nearby except the convention center, so I'm not sure it would be worth making the drive just to eat, but if you find yourself staying in the hotel for some reason, you'll be very happy with the food. read more

The servers were all exceptionally friendly and attentive. The drinks were divine after a day of travel! The gimlet was fresh and limey. Perfection. My husband enjoyed the Blueprint and followed it with the Sazerac. Dinner was delicious. The braised ribs were tops. The serving was huge and the jus was rich. I'd order them again in a heartbeat. The beet salad looked amazing and my husband reported he'd get it again too. We went on a slow night, which worked out great because it was quiet. The food was a huge disappointment. We started with the house bread basket, expecting something suitable for dinner, but instead, we got sugary breakfast breads like pumpkin, chocolate chip, and cranberry muffins. When we mentioned our dissatisfaction, the waiter responded, "You're joking with me, you ate it." Well, we ate it because it cost $9 and we were hungry, but we were still disappointed. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese, and it was incredibly bland--just a watery roux of milk and flour with no cheese, salt, or pepper. While there was cheese on top, it didn't melt into the dish, and the whole thing lacked flavor. Honestly, I'd rate Chick-fil-A's mac and cheese higher than this, and that's nowhere near the $25 price tag. I did try some of my wife's burger, and it was excellent. It was well-seasoned, flavorful, and at $18, it was the best thing we had. They should focus more on this type of food because their attempts at fine dining clearly miss the mark. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, though the dim lighting made it difficult for some at my table to read the menu, requiring them to use their phones for light. Our waiter was inattentive, despite being assigned to just our table. He would disappear for long stretches, leaving us to wave him down multiple times just to place orders or get drinks. When he wasn't helping us, he was chatting with coworkers at the kitchen counter or front desk. At the end, I noticed that they automatically included a tip in the check, which felt unfair considering the poor service. Especially because we had a large group and the 18% gratuity was well over $100, this waiter did not earn that big of a tip if any at all. Super disappointing. This place was absolutely delicious when it opened. The first year was great. We've returned four times in the last year or so and it's been a sad and flavorless experience each time. We are done trying unless we hear from multiple sources they get it back together. The only thing on the menu I can recommend now is the tallow potatoes. They had incredible burgers and salads in the beginning. Many delicious sides. Cocktails were quality. Service was quality. We don't come out to eat to make friends with the waiter or get entertained. We come to relax and have someone else cook, serve and clean up for us as a change of pace from home cooking. This, like many places in Lincoln, is an example of declining quality of food and service with an increase in prices and a barrage of taxes far exceeding the value. They once knew what to do here, what has changed? Management? Ownership? Something for sure. The space itself is nice and outside is lovely, seems a huge waste. read more

I had the RICOTTA MUSHROOM GNUDI and it was very high quality / worth the high price. The portion was a bit small but I get why considering the quality. My family went to Well and good at the university innovation campus Scarlet hotel for brunch . Brunch is served until 2 pm. We arrived at 11 under a reservation made the day before . Brunch was 30.00 per person. Experience horrible. Food was limited with a few portions left. The food that was present was barely warm. Bacon was completely out and when we told the chef he basically ignored us and turned around.. we asked for jelly and the waitress brought butter. No one asked us how our food was or experience was while eating. Table had stains on it when we sat down. We were charged 20% gratuity for a party of 5 at buffet. I am a Good tipper but the service was barely service and I would have left 10 percent for the two times the waitress stopped by. Once when we had to flag her down. I can see why there was no one in the restaurant because it was lackluster all around. I would not recommend this place to anybody at any time . My family chose this restaurant for our large group celebration for Mother's Day (17 people) and we were pretty disappointed. The restaurant is very nice but the server was not friendly to us at all, did not offer appetizers or desserts, and everything took a VERY long time. We felt like for the prices that we were paying that we would at least have had a friendly and knowledgeable server who would make sure we were taken care of but that was not the case. Food was pretty good but I do agree with what others said about it being slightly overpriced. I think this could be a nice place for a table of 2 or 4 but it did not seem like they were very adept at handling a large party. We have a big group who likes to go out and spend our money at nice restaurant but we won't have this one in our rotation going forward. :( read more

We had a truly lovely dinner tonight at Well & Good. We had locally sourced steak and rack of lamb cooked in a special and unique Spanish oven - one of two in the U.S. - and all was perfect. I was there last night with a group of women. The service was terrible. It took an average of 30 min to get a drink. We weren't even offered water, menus. The server didn't take our order until about 90 Minutes in. The food took forever. No manager came out to help her. Other employees were just standing around. Some of the bills were wrong. It was fun to try a new place. Ambiance good. Menu good, but thought was kinda pricey and wasn't super impressed with the food that I ordered. I ordered the mushroom risotto with chicken. Might taste better in the wintertime?? My friend ordered a steak and she said it was good, but looked over cooked to me. She ordered medium rare and also had quite a bit of fat on it. As a Hospitality and F&B professional- I was very underwhelmed by this restaurant. It's a great concept but poorly executed. My main complaints were with the service.. We waited about 15 minutes to be greeted by a server. (There was maybe 3 or 4 other tables in the whole place). Even if they had been busy a quick table touch and "I'll be right with you" would have been nice. After being greeted and ordering drinks, drinks took another good 10-15 minutes. My husbands water tasted like flat club soda. Food didn't take long once ordered. But took us a while to order because we couldn't ever find our server. Even the process of ordering dessert and getting the checks at the end took entirely too long. Additionally, the music playing did not match the vibe & environment. We were looking forward the whole meal to checking out the rooftop bar after dinner for drinks. Only to learn they were closed on a Saturday night, from a sign by the elevator. No complaints about the food itself, but also nothing about it was special. I would recommend training servers on proper steps of service and delivery times. I think with some further training and adjustments, this has the potential to be a really great spot! I also would advise giving ice water to guests as opposed to warm water. read more

Have a good concept in mind. Lincoln and UNL campus need this. Devaney needed this. We believe the menu will get better as well as options. This place is too new to give best case scenario.
