Cheese and toppings were very, very good. The weak link by a significant margin is the crust. If I were the owner, I'd make an investment in a different dough supplier. It tasted like a cracker. Pretty empty on a Saturday evening, but the atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious. My wife ordered the pork meatball baguette and I ordered the roast beef baguette. The sandwiches were bigger than expected! They were also cut in half so it was very convenient to give each other a half of our sandwich so we could try both. I went here on a Tuesday night with 2 friends. We grabbed a spot at the bar. The first thing we noticed was the awesome brick oven right in front of us. It was fun watching the pizzas go in and out. The next thing we noticed was the drink list. It literally only said red wine or white wine. No varietal, no country of origin, and no indication of tasting notes. As someone who drinks a lot of wine, this was a turn off. When we asked the bartender what the wines were, there literally were 3 options period. So anyway, if you like wine with your pizza, get take out. The liquor drink list was more interesting, so we ordered from it. We all enjoyed our drinks. Then we ordered a pizza to share. It was delightful. The crust was perfectly cooked and a little salty. The toppings were fresh and flavorful. I would definitely go back for the pizza. Worst experience of my life, we we're going to a show at Shea's and had reservations for dinner. Seated for 30 mins, finally got our drinks, ordered dinner. Sat for another 45 minutes at least 3 tables seated after us has their food. Explained we we're in a hurry due to the show starting as I assumed two hours was enough time for a pizza but apparently it wasn't. The server I'm guessing never put the order in and explained there were many orders ahead of ours. Quick apology, and told us it'd be 20 to 25 mins to get a salad. No dinner and a wasted night we left. I was still billed for my drink after the massive mistake the server made. We won't be going back, I'd have done Misuta Chow's tonight in a second if I had a do over. read more

Currently attempting to determine why on earth this place only has 3.5 stars... I've eaten dinner here 3 times and each occasion has been an otherworldly experience! From their delicious cocktails and perfectly cooked pizzas to their homemade gnocchi and baklava, Hearth + Press is absolutely stellar! The waitstaff is relaxed, friendly, and accommodating and the location is convenient, if slightly isolated on non-Shea's-performance nights. We had been excited to try this place but it was a huge disappointment. From the moment we walked in and the blond hostess with an attitude seated us, (I saw her rolling her eyes and making faces behind other diner's backs as she walked away too) to the lack of attention from our server. Here's the best tip I can give you... DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP! We sent them both back...and I never send food back to the kitchen... I have this thing about it. We both had pizzas... they were decent. I had the chicken pesto... heavy on the pesto, very very light on the chicken. They have an extremely limited menu... I get that, wood fired pizzas is their thing. But it LITERALLY took 75 minutes to bring those little pizzas out. Won't be back. read more

What a cool place! We made reservations before a concert at the town ballroom. If you've got time restrictions, definitely try to make a reservation as they don't have a ton of tables. My husband and I each ordered a pizza and a cappuccino. Both were awesome! Can't go wrong with brick oven pizza. The waitress did a good job making suggestions and explaining what some of the ingredients on the pizzas were. We also had the cannoli dip which was awesome. I could've just had that and been on cloud 9. If you're in the area, definitely try it out. We will be back for sure and I'm looking forward to trying more items. The only downside are the prices. Sunday evening downtown Buffalo is rough if you are trying to find something to eat. To our great fortune, Hearth & Press was willing to stay open a bit longer for our benefit. I was excited to have a great wood fired pizza joint downtown but the atmosphere isn't very welcoming. I believe one of the owners was working the bar but he seemed unfriendly and faking it. Maybe he was tired or something but they should have staff working that actually want to be there's. The place could be amazing if it was more welcoming and friendly. First time in. Ordered the prosciutto pizza and my companion the chicken sandwich. we decided to start with the pesto gnocchi as an appetizer. The place is decorated in minimalist industrial and I like that but it felt cold in there- It was very cold outside so that might have had some bearing on it- The only reason I gave 4 stars was because it took an extremely long time for our appetizer to come out. Once we got it - Wow it was delicious!!!! Probably the best pesto I've ever tasted. My pizza was delicious as well- loved the crust and the cheese. Would definitely go back- For those that post the lack of signage- I think or at least I've heard that due to the historic district- outdoor signage is not allowed. Very good food and good service. It was awkward not to have a server, so I had keep getting up for getting everything from silverware to water and food. My 5 yo had 3 slices of his four cheese pizza. To start, we made a reservation for dinner before Shea's and upon arrival were told they didn't have us on the list. It was a frigid night and the restaurant was freezing! The space heater in the corner showed 54 degrees on it...strike 2. The Manager (owner?) said he'd see what he could do about finding us a table - 35 minutes later he hadn't come back to speak to us. It was only after we flagged him down that he finally addressed us again. A table of 8 hadn't shown up so he gave us (4) one of the tables after breaking the 8 top down. When we sat down, 2 of us ordered a second glass of wine (we had one each at the bar) and the guys ordered a beer each. The wine arrived but the beers didn't. We had to flag our waiter down to ask why the beer hadn't arrived only to be told they were out of that kind. They chose others and we ordered our food. Two salads and 2 pizzas were what we chose - food was good but definitely not enough for 2 couples. The pizza was cold by the time I had a piece, but I think that may have been because of the 54 degree interior (we ate with our jackets on. Our server was ok...but definitely not great - beer incident and also he brought a wrong salad. He took the beer and salad off the bill, but not a stellar performance. Another great find in buffalo! We stopped before going to Shea's with my girls (7&9). The decor is clean and inviting. The menu is salads, sandwiches and brick oven pizzas. We got the hummus to start. De-lish!!!! Wish they had more bread with the hummus but we saved it to dip our pizza crust in. Everyone ordered their own pizzas and loved them!!!! The vegetable pizza was great but seemed it was missing something- extra cheese, Olives??? Overall a great place to stop and grab some quick good grub. read more

Although the flavor was good, the wings were the size of pigeon wings and not chicken wings as Buffalonians expect. I am new to the Buffalo area (a new transplant from Northern NJ)... I came upon this gem by chance just looking for a cup of coffee after the theatre. What I found was a new treasure (the absolute best wood-fired pizzas and hand-crafted cocktails rivaling anything out of NYC - which is hard to do). My wife and I stopped in at Hearth + Press after a show at Shea's and we loved it. A modern and open layout with wood fired pizza oven, this restaurant is perfect place to relax, whether you prefer a French press coffee, a glass of wine, or a hand mixed cocktail. We sat at the counter and the bartender recommended the Menooshi pizza (cheese, olives, tomatoes, olive oil, rosemary and thyme) to accompany the bottle of red wine we had selected. We enjoyed the wine (a 10 year old Cab/Malbec blend from Lebanon) and the pizza. The staff was friendly and attentive, obviously taking pride in what they serve. Although the owner was busy preparing pizzas, he took some time to chat with us. He brings his restaurant experience and knowledge to Hearth + Press in a very hands on style. Last night was my time trying Hearth + Press. It was pretty empty and there was no table seating offered, only counter service. My friend and I enjoyed our food at the bar. We decided to try two pizzas-one with red sauce and one without sauce. The Buffalo Pie was amazing! It had a little kick with banana peppers, pepperoni, and meatball. I personally like a little spice so this was right up my alley, definitely not overwhelming spicy. We also tried the Pesto Chicken pizza which was what I would consider the opposite of the Buffalo Pie. It was more mild. It was also flavorful with chicken, pesto, peppers, and topped with arugula (if I remember correctly). I enjoyed it. I also had a cocktail that was quite delicious and it was my first time having Saint-Germain. It was delicious. The cocktail was $12, which can seem pricey in regards to most places. However, it was prepared so well that it was worth the price to me. I enjoyed my overall experience and I look forward to going back. read more

So I've had bad service and/or bad food at restaurants before, but Thursday night at the Hearth and Press was the absolute worst that I've ever experienced! 1/2 hour before we even had water in our glasses, and then the waitress only filled the glasses half full. When we asked her to leave the bottle, she told us she couldn't. I asked her to at least fill the glasses, and she spilled water all over my phone and in my open purse! Not even an apology! It was then more than 45 mins before we got our drinks (which we had to give several reminders about and when I spoke to the manager, he said they were out of clean glasses!) No one seemed to have any urgency to take care of the customers and it was well over an hour before our food arrived. When it finally (!) arrived, 2 of the orders were wrong and none of it was good! I regret not taking a picture to show how ridiculous my sandwich was...it was supposed to be a caprese, but was so drenched in balsamic that the already thin bread was soggy and there was barely any cheese or tomato. It came with 3, yes I said 3! fries. If you could call them fries. One larger and 2 smaller I can't even call them wedges, that were raw on one side and overcooked on the other. I told her I was not going to eat any of mine, so take it off of the bill. One friend had ordered a sandwich and was brought out a pizza instead. The waitress asked if she wanted the sandwich instead, but we were afraid it would be another hour before she'd see any food, so she kept the pizza. She was charged for the pizza price ($18) even though she ordered the sandwich ($13.) Another friend had ordered the marinara pizza. It did not say that it would have No. Cheese. At. All. It was the most sorry looking pizza I've ever seen. My friend was so shocked and asked for a soup instead, but the waitress said she'd take it back for cheese. She brought it back with some not quite melted cheese on top. I've had better chef boyardee than that. None of the dishes were better than sub par. We got our bill and were shocked that it was $40 for a bottle of wine when it was $8 per glass! 2 of us had ordered a glass, but were asked if we wanted a bottle. Another friend said ok to the bottle, but how is it 8 for a glass, and 40 for the bottle? The waitress kept blaming everything on the bartender. To her credit, I think she was the only waitress working. There were several other workers "helping" to deliver the food, but no one seemed to step up and care about the customers. I would have thought that the manager (I think it was the manager, even though he certainly didn't act like it at all) would have offered to take something off of the bill or do something to make his customers happy. We saw many others get up and leave, which we were tempted to do, but could not since there were 5 of us and we were on a time limit to get to the theater. I only give it 1 star because no stars is not a possibility. Obviously, we will NEVER set foot in that beyond ridiculous establishment again. Don't waste your time or money! read more

So disappointed. Was really looking forward to a meal there. I love the wood-burning pizza oven. We ordered the meatball pizza not bad we ordered the vegetarian vegetable just in the middle and nothing around the outside no sauce no flavor. We ordered the tomato and pesto pizza . The tomato sauce tasted like puréed tomatoes and the pesto sauce was OK. We got an antipasto salad for four if you're a Italian don't order it. They had four slices of salami Thinly sliced, I think four slices of ham that was so thin you couldn't cut it , a sliver of tomato and mozzarella ball cut into four that was very good. To Small green Olives and two small black olives, with the pits. Then there was four cheese wedges. The restaurant is very nice. Our waiter was very nice. To me you're paying for the location. I wouldn't go back there again or would I suggest anybody else to go there. Maybe the sandwiches are better than the pizzas. It's gourmet prices for a little food. not a buffalo style pizza. The brownie was real good and so was the macaroon cookie. The croissant baklava dry no flavor. I hope your visit is better than mine read more
