Swiss Chard With Chicken Or Sausage
Daviyion J.

Old school, family-style Italian at it's finest. I went for dinner with a friend to check out a place that has been on my list for a while and it did not disappoint. Definitely has a very eclectic look about it but don't let that hokey presence deter you from trying one of the many delicious things on their menu. For dinner I got the Swiss Chard with Sausage served over ziti pasta, while my company got the shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta. I really enjoyed all the flavors and veggies that mixed in well with my dish, and while my friend did like the shrimp scampi they were disappointed that it only had a few shrimp on it. Both meals came with a house salad as well as some garlic knots and I definitely recommend getting it with the house dressing (a red vinaigrette) that was so, so good. Definitely will return to try more things on their vast menu.

Dont let the quirky decore fool you, this is definitely a hidden gem! I came here with a friend because I was looking for a place with good food and a place we can have a conversation. This place was perfect! It's family owned and they were very nice. I ordered the shrimp with angel hair pasta and tomatoes, it comes hot medium or mild and I got medium. It was perfect. Good amount of shrimp for the amount of pasta received. My friend got the spaghetti with Italian sausage. She really enjoyed it. We killed our food and we usually always have left lovers. I highly recommend it here. Especially it you want a good home cooked meal in a quiet location. They only serve wine and soda products but they have a nice selection.

I absolutely loved this small family run restaurant on the west-side / Black Rock. I am still learning the area, this cozy restaurant is worth a visit.

Ask the Community - Faso's Italian Restaurant

I see the street has construction. Is there a parking lot for your restaurant?

Does Faso's still decorate for Christmas year round?

Yes... it's the same as it was years ago! The old couple running it are very nice...

There was a steady number of people coming in for dinner while I was there. The owner/bartender was super cool and helpful when it came to picking out a quick bite. I ended up trying the chicken pintxo and I had a charcuterie board as well. I'm not as much of a drinker anymore but they had such a great selection of wines here that I would have been able to choose from a wide variety. The chicken pintxo was great. It had a really good flavor. The skewers were shorter which was nice to try to get the food off. The bread was great and they were a really great bite. The charcuterie board had the usual components and I ate it quickly before I could get the photo, but it also had sour patch gummy bears on it which was incredibly cool. I was happy with the cheddar, brie, and assorted meats but the gummy bears made it unique and fun. I will definitely be coming back here to try more of the menu next time.

While the covering does a great job of shielding you from the sun, we discovered that it's not quite sufficient for heavy rain. We ordered a bottle of Montepulciano--a bolder, pleasant wine that paired wonderfully with the stuffed mushrooms and charcuterie board we selected. Although the menu listed the wine as a 2015 vintage, we received a 2019 bottle. The bartender was courteous about the mix-up, and we decided to stick with the 2019. The charcuterie board comes in three sizes, and we opted for the medium one. If you're unsure about the portion sizes, I've included a picture with this review. The charcuterie was an excellent choice, with the olives and cheeses being particular standouts. We also enjoyed the sausage-stuffed mushrooms, which were delicious. Overall, this is a lovely and comfortable place for light snacks and drinks. We look forward to returning in the future.

I was quite skeptical given I was a Panos regular, that served the same cuisine formerly at the same location. I'm not going to lie, I was intimadated by the menu prior to going. But that quickly went out the window, lol. First off, this place is gorgeous!! Pink and gold everywhere, with gold velvet booths!! Definetly a vibe !! The waitress was very down to earth and was well informed about the menu. She explained Mira had a small plate concept, they encourage to order a course from each section to share. I'm not going to lie, each dish was phenomenal!! No exaggeration!! And we were actually full afterwards. One friends ordered humus, I have never been a fan. However, that warm and fluffy naan with the perfectly blended humus ( i'm a texture girl) paired with the onions, spices, and oil !!! I was surprisingly pleased!! And my friends said don't sleep on that chicken thigh and i agree!! Beautifully grill chicken seasoned to the T, covered in onions and peppers laid tasty yougurt sauce. Honestly i could go on and about each dish we tried because it was just that good. Overall, I'd 100% recommend Mira, it is definetly worth the making the reservation. I would just say be open minded, ask questions as needed and get ready for an amazing culinary experiance. Great service, food comes out quickly and amazing great drink. It can get a little pricey but it is soooooooooooooooooo worth it !! I promise !!!

Especially since the bar was not particularly busy when we ordered. My friend got one of the specialty drinks, Bee Sting, made with Meade & draft cider, I got a hot tea and we split a fruit plate & nut plate. The water given with my tea was not hot enough to steep the bag; the bartender thanked me for letting him know and returned quickly with a fresh, hot, Halloween-themed cup. The fruit & nut plates had a good selection including banana chips, dried apricot, mango, cranberries, almonds, pistachios and cashews. They were the perfect amount for snacking while having a drink & gabbing. The bathroom was very cooly decorated with a skeleton on the ceiling enrobed in spider webs and a crow that cawed at me when I opened the door. I wish I would have taken a pic! I was grateful to be in sturdy jeans rather than linen pants or a delicate skirt that could have been snagged on the broken fabric. Eddie, our server, was friendly and offered recommendations when we couldn't decide. Sadly, he was the only server working on a Sunday night and while the restaurant wasn't packed, it was busy enough that we waited longer than we should have for our food and our payment to be processed. I ordered the truffle fries which was the best decision of the evening. The malt vinegar aioli was an interesting accompaniment. I also ordered the gouda bacon burger. The brioche bun was fluffy and buttery, the burger (which I was not asked my cooking preference, med, well, etc) had a crispy char on the outside and was nicely pink throughout. I specifically asked for no chips, because if I was eating truffle fries, I was not eating homemade chips and I didn't want them going to waste. I did get 3 pickle spears instead, so the rest of the plate didn't look bare. My friend ordered the Walnut Brussel Sprouts and Pumpkin Risotto. The sprouts were undercooked and the risotto was cold and overcooked. The food options were pleasantly varied and I would have loved the opportunity to try dessert (I love creme brulée) but perhaps going another day when there are more staff. Steve's Clam Bar's food and service were delightful, btw, but I'll review them separately. Bar Della Citta? Eh, not so much. So, Bar Della Citta has that garage door/bar window setup that allows it to open up to the outside during warm weather. Because middle-aged white people still think that smoking cigarettes is cool, that means that the whole interior smells of Marlboro smoke, so we had to move bar seats to be closer to the industrial fan that blows from inside to out. That's inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker. The gregarious bar manager, though, was friendly and outgoing, but in a horrible way that entailed him sharing his love of cops, drinking with cops, giving cops free shit so that they'd protect him in his "sketchy" West Side neighborhood, driving drunk home from drinking with cops, his love of MT Pockets, and the various other things that us lefties might put in the nexus of "white privilege." And then there's the crowd: so far as I can tell, it's off-duty cops, retired strippers, and a general motley assortment of Trump enthusiasts who wandered over from the other white supremacist dump across the street to voice lunatic Breitbart conspiracy theories they found on the internet about Scandinavia having more mass shootings per capita than the US? MURCA!! It was July 4, after all. We even got a "gawd bless Murca" shout out shortly after someone detonated an explosive in the parking lot to the approval of everyone there. So, if overpriced drinks (I was also overcharged or given doubles that I had not asked for) in plastic cups while you breathe cigarette smoke and are regaled with Blue Lives Matter propaganda while surrounded by people who don't respect personal space, let alone physical distancing, is your thing, well, have at it. Pretty sure we're not coming back. Some parking available. Some cool vintage arcade games in the expo center space surrounding the bar.
