This was my second time at Faso's. I liked it so much I had to come back again. I had the Tripe and my date had the Braciole, which I ended up eatiing. The decor is a tawdry mixture of Italian Christmas, the Papacy and vintage Buffalo. Some may say it's dated but I love it. It's charming and quite romantic. The food is also great, my tripe was nice and tender, not too chewy. We also had some wine and Italian beer, pretty big selection of the vino. As for the service it was great Pat and her husband are dears and work to please. I would also recommend this place because it's never too crowded. Unlike other places you can hear yourself think and have an enjoyable conversation without being interrupted by the table next to you. I will be coming back. In my mind one of the best Italian places in Buffalo, as far as food, service, and general ambiance. read more

Wow. This place is a hidden gem. It certainly doesn't look like anything special when you see it from the street, especially considering the surrounding area, but the menu is absolutely amazing for the size of the place. Tons of italian dishes, and other local specialties, such as a a friday fish fry and roast beef. The interior is kind of "funky", with some random stuff on the walls (signs, doll collections, etc). And it's kind of small inside, but the prices are cheap, and the food is good comfort food. Their slogan is "Food so good, you'll think we stole your momma!", and I have to agree with them. I've been meaning to review this place. Went there the Friday before Mother's Day with my mom and dad. Had never been there before. Let me tell you what a surprise inside the place is old school but covered in Christmas lights and decorations. Which I really loved it and so did my parents because we all are Christmas nuts. The server was nice in there like 30 some years. The salad and homemade dressing was amazing as was the homemade garlic knots. Calamari was good. And the meals we're decent too. The most impressive thing and while I will go back is because the owner came over to the table with a rose for my mother and said happy Mother's Day. What a nice touch. Overall a great experience if you want to step back in time and see an old-school place and also see an over the top you're around Christmas display. read more

I'm ashamed that it took me two years after buying house (and 3.5 since moving into Black Rock in general) to try this excellent mom'n'pop Italian eatery. It was worth the wait, or rather I was foolish for waiting for so long. Ambiance: The inside is a lover-of-all-things-tacky's dream - Xmas lights, several giant virgin Mary statues flanked by huge gold swans, a stuffed (I believe real) Buffalo head, and ornaments dangling off of....well, everything. The place is much larger than it appears when you first walk in, with another larger dining room off the back of the main room (which also houses a long bar). There were a variety of table shapes and sizes, some small enough to accomodate initimate dates for two, others appearing to seat 8-10. My only real complaint was a tiny tv blaring FOX News of all things. Not only do I find the channel idiotic (and the use of the term news an oxymoron based on their programming) but having a tv on in general seemed to clash with the low-lit, gentle-Italian-music-streaming-down-from-above vibe of the place. Service: We were greeted warmly & seated by an Italian (actually from Italy, not an -nth generation I don't know any Italian except throwing "paisan" into conversation) gentleman that I believe is one of the owners. He made several visits throughout the meal to ensure we had what we needed and were satisfied with the food quality. The waitress was prompt, clearly seasoned and very attentive. When my friend and I commented to one another that we hadn't noticed the second dining room, a lady I believe to be the owner's wife happily invited us back, turned the lights on (they were near closing) and showed us around. Food: First of all, I was impressed at how big the menu was and how many "lighter" ingredient & seafood dishes were available. Too often Italian "fine dining" winds up being pasta with red sauce or alfredo, or pasta stuffed with cheese or meat with red sauce or alfredo. The portions were HUGE but quality didn't suffer. I got eggplant florentine - thin lightly breaded and fried eggplant layered with spinach, cheeses, and red sauce, topped with mozz and sauteed fresh mushrooms. I was very happy with the flavors and textures of the ingredients. This blew away most Buffalo "favorites" like Frank's Sunny Italy. My friend's chicken alfredo was also tasty - a rich, not heavy sauce with great texture, large chunks of tender chicken and al dente pasta. Both were served with a very fresh house salad - the house dressing (described by the waitress "as classic Italian but BETTER") was excellent, particularly with the fresh bleu cheese crumbles we opted for - and garlic mini rolls. We polished off what we could eat (hello leftovers) and opted for a cannoli and chocolate ganache cake with whipped chocolate and raspberry topping. O. M. G. I can't wait to walk the mere two blocks to this place in nicer weather and enjoy their patio! read more

Olde-world style Italian ristorantes in any upstate city are becoming harder to find. Check whatever preconceptions you may have about Venice and Gondolas at the door and come enjoy the flavors and story of this family's assimilation into America, Buffalo style. I enjoyed the Sicilian Eggplant dish with a side of (extra long) spaghetti. The sauce, a family secret for generations, brought it all together nicely. Don't get shook by the Assissi's in the tub, the rosaries, and other shrines to the Pope and Sinatra, they all tell the story of one family's journey from Sicily to New York. The best part of my dining experience was leaving. The food was terrible at best. The chocolate peanut butter pie is indescribable. It smelled and tasted like some kind of alcohol and lacked any chocolate or peanut butter. The server was very chatty and kept complaining how short handed they were, but they only had 3 tables. BUT we had the stuffed peppers, hot yellow peppers halved and stuffed with piped ricotta. they were delicious. Don had spaghetti with a meatball and a sausage, I had braciole. I am not going say much about the decor other than you have to see it to believe it. Met a few people there for lunch today. We were quickly seated and drink orders were taken. Beer and Wine only, no booze. They have Birch Beer which was a nice score. After she took our order they brought us some garlic knots that were outstanding! My linguine with white clam sauce was excellent. Side meatballs and sauce was very good. This my third visit here and its always been excellent. Had to write my first review just for Faso's. I came here on Valentine's day on a whim and truly appreciated the effort and thought that goes into Faso's service and decor. The servers are sociable and know their menu well. Mine suggested the Seafood A la Faso and it was delicious! They were willing to make adjustments to other meals and provided everything you could want in a service. Faso's has charisma and is the type of hometown, local restaurant that needs to be appreciated. The owner checked on us multiple times and even gave us roses for the holiday. It was a truly lovely experience and we will definitely be back! read more

Small place that seems to have been there for decades. Has a small dining room in the front with the bar and another dining room in the back. Very low ceilings. The light fixtures have year round Christmas decorations on them. The menu reads like a phone book complete with all the usual Italian specialties. Wine list offers mostly lower priced options... $31.95 being the most expensive if I remember correctly. Service was very slow to start as there was only one server the night we dined. Kitchen was quite slow even when there were only 4 tables of diners. But... it was worth the wait! Nice sized portions and everything was awesome! Entree prices were very reasonable. This place is one of those old school Italian places that diners should pay more attention too. Great alternative to the always busy Chef's. read more

Walking in, my husband was put off by the decor. Then ... he he was downright taken aback by the cleanliness. He pointed to a high chair with what I thought was dirt, and realized it was mold. We should have known there would be a problem when the beer was warm, and they asked if I wanted ice with my glass of Reisling. The woman who was our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating. We were seated by the window. We started of with Bruschetta. What a disappointment. It was some sliced bread that was toasted, a layer of mozzarella cheese, and then sliced tomatoes topped with some dry oregano or parsley which was then heated under a broiler to melt the cheese. My husband ordered the spinach ravioli. I think they were frozen and not even made by them. My husband said the red sauce had no flavor to it, and the raviolis were just bland and unappetizing. I ordered an eggplant dish. It was like a glob of flavorless glue. Again, the red sauce had no flavor to it Afterwards, my husband complained of his stomach feeling like it was filled with lead. Worst meal ever. We have another Groupon for this restaurant ... but the food was so bad, we will eat the cost of the Groupon rather than return to this restaurant. read more

I can't give any stars. Not only were the reviews I read wrong the were very misguided. If I must be honest, I have to say you would never known this was a family owned Italian restaurant. Not only was it filthy dirty, but for a family business it was sad. The glasses were stuck to the table and I fear they were turned upside down for fear of asbestos dropping in them. But the food the truth is l felt like a rat eating from a dumpster. The food was cold, tasteless, and pasta overcooked to the point of chewy. Don't Italians do it al dente? Not here, if your looking to eat chewy gluten get yourself a big bowl of their spaghetti. Chef Ramsey needs to visit this place with the kitchen nightmare crew. Sent my meal back and it came back colder than the first time. Please I beg you look at the bad reviews on yelp first, they are probably right. My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant because we had heard great things. The dead fly in the window and the fact that we were the only people in the restaurant, should have been a clue. I don't know if other people know what good food is because this food was literally TERRIBLE. Nothing was homemade. My husband ordered the chicken marsala which he took a single bite of and couldn't eat anymore. The chicken was soggy and sitting in a bed of oily liquid. There was no marsala sauce, just all garlic and canned mushrooms. I ordered the linguini and clams which was overly spiced with Italian seasonings, which had just been plopped on top of the dish. The clams tasted more like sausage then seafood. If I could have given this restaurant zero stars I would. The only good part about our experience was the friendly server. I feel bad for saying this because the owner is the most adorable little old Italian man, but we would NEVER go back here. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Driving through Buffalo and used my trusty Yelp App. Got off a random exit and YELPED. I found Fascos...simple pasta & sausage with a side salad....and delicious garlic knot bread. Not much of a crowd but waitstaff was very engaging. We come to the Buffalo area at least once or twice a year and although we've found quite a few interesting places to eat, no visit would be complete without a dinner at Faso's. We love Italian food, and although Baltimore has some good Italian restaurants, we have nothing like Faso's. The owner and waitress where amazing. However, My husband and I have NEVER had such bad Italian food. For the appetizer, we ordered stuffed hot peppers (it was peppers flattened with what looked like instant mashed potatoes and had no taste) We ordered Lasagna with half red sauce (not bad) and Alfredo sauce (horrible, no taste and tasted like thick white flour), My husband ordered chicken medallions with gravy and mushrooms (gross, the sauce was water and it had so much garlic on it, it was hard to swallow. The salads were boring, lettuce with 1 tomato. Lastly, we tried the homemade desserts as the waitress did tell us they were to die for. Excited, I ordered the lemon cake with raspberry sauce and My husband ordered the coconut cream pie. We both hated our desserts and decided to switch. Neither had much taste and the coconut cream pie was not light and fluffy but dense and almost tasted like crisco looks. Worst of all the bill came to $85.00 and we tipped 15.00. Did I miss something here? My experience at Faso's was nothing like the majority of the reviewers here. My husband and I went to Faso's on a whim. We couldn't figure out what we wanted for dinner. We are always driving by and thinking we should one day go there. We went on a Saturday, early evening and the place was empty! There were 2 other couples seated in the entrance dining room (I didn't see the back room so no idea how many people seated there but it sure was quiet.) We ordered the calamari which tasted like they were frozen. All perfect little hard rings that were tough to chew. Calamari should not be tough and their shapes not uniform as if made by a machine. The sauce, nothing to shout about. My husband and I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and broccoli. The alfredo sauce was bland. I had to add salt to the dish to give it some flavor. (I never add salt to my food!) I thought if I added more parmesan cheese that would add flavor, but not so. The best things in the dish were the shrimp and broccoli. Other than that, nothing else was tasty in this dish. The rolls were good, but small and when we asked for more they sent us 4 more. These are like tiny crescent rolls. Not sure if made there or they get frozen. They were ok. We considered getting a cannoli, but just didn't want to take a chance on that. I ordered a glass of club soda with lemon, which arrived in a cocktail like tall glass filled with ice and little club soda. I ordered a second and noticed on the bill the soda alone cost 3.50! I could've bought a case of seltzer water from Wegmans for less! All of our courses came so fast I actually thought they may have been trying to get rid of us. No sooner than we got our one dish than the other was right behind it. The waitress was just so nice and apologetic, but that alone is not enough for me to return. My husband and I were just commenting on what would Ramsey say about this place. Between the décor, being stuck in what appeared to be a scene from Good Fellas, the furniture, and the cleanliness or lack there ofl, he would have had enough to have two episodes! Funny that one of the couples that had been there when we arrived were done and leaving soon after. Waitress asks how was everything and the lady answered "great", but it sounded so insincere. I should have known then. I think I had the same tone in my voice when asked at the end of our meal too! Overall, I will never return to Faso's. A group of four of us went to Fasos last week, on a week night. Two of us had been there before, on a weekend and it was good; we all enjoyed our dinners. So we went back! What a mistake!! To be honest, it was terrible and a waste of money. We also were the only ones in there for the whole time we were there, which was a few hours.,,,now I know why we were the only ones eating there!! I ordered a dish of Pasta that had veggies and Chicken on top, Red Peppers, Mushrooms, Garlic, Onions, Artichoke Hearts, which I had the 1st time I went there, and it was good then,,,but not this time!! The veggies were all, I'm sure, reheated left overs, there were no Artichokes in the dish, and the Chicken was reheated Chicken, The Pasta was over cooked; probably also left over! I really couldn't eat it! Another person dining with us had a Chicken Picata Dish which was floating in Oil! The dish was not made as Chicken Picata usually is, there was no sauce, only oil !! So much oil that she felt ill soon after eating it, and had stomach pains all night from the awful Chicken Picata! We will never go back!! How horrible to charge so much money for a meal and then serve reheated food because they were not busy and thought they could get away with it!! They did!... But,,,,they have lost returning customers as well as others whom we were going to take there! Hint! Treat your customers fairly, serve good food and you will be busy most nights of the week!! read more
