Had an early reservation for dinner tonight before heading to see Seinfeld at Shea's. We were seated immediately and our server was Jonathan. He was a great waiter , had great conversation & service. I started with the soup of the day, white bean and ham & my granddaughter had the French onion. I was Leary about my choice but it was definitely really good. I ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich. I was on the fence between that and one of the daily specials, the table by us had ordered my choices helping make up my mind. The chicken was crispy on a brioche roll with hot pepper cheese, lettuce, hot honey mayo & spicy purple slaw. It came with fries that tasted more baked than fried , a plus in my book and a pickle. My granddaughter had the Caesar salad with chicken. The dressing was house made , I tried it ,really good. The restaurant sits right on Main Street directly across from Shea's. With windows across the front you can watch the people & traffic . The kitchen is partially open in back and you can see the hustle & bustle going on in there. read more

This restaurant is right across Main Street from Sheas theater so it makes a great place to go before or after the show. Make sure you make reservations and they will do what it takes to make sure you get to your seats in time for curtain up. We had a nice dinner here before a show. We were seated right away. Note that the tables are a bit squished together. The food quality was great. We both got two small plates for our dinner. The crab cakes were to die for. They were a tad of an Asian influence and great flavor with just the right amount of spice. Good amount of crab as well! We also got the Brussels sprouts which were roasted with maple and bacon. Very tasty! We also got the beet salad. It needed a few more beets- very arugula heavy. Service was fine. We had a 5:00 reservation and planned to have a relaxed dinner before our 7:30 show at Shea's, but the experience didn't go as expected. To start, one person in our group never received the drink they ordered. It wasn't delayed, it just never came. Our order wasn't taken until around 5:40, and the food didn't start coming out until about 6:50. Waiting nearly two hours for food, especially with a set schedule for a show, made the evening feel rushed and stressful instead of enjoyable. What made it more frustrating was watching smaller tables seated after us order and receive their food before we did. At one point around 6:50, we spoke to a couple who had a 5:30 reservation and they had already finished their meal and paid, while we were just getting our food. We were a group of 11, and there is an automatic 20% gratuity added for larger parties. It's hard not to wonder if that played a role in the level of service we received. When the food finally arrived, we had very little time to actually eat before needing to leave. The check came around 7:15, giving us just enough time to quickly finish up and get to the theater. Thankfully, Shea's is right across the street, because otherwise we would have been late. We were told the delay was because the chicken pot pie took longer to cook. After that, the server mentioned that the chef was offering dessert to make up for the wait, which was appreciated, but we didn't have time to stay for it due to the show. Lastly, there was an issue with the menu. We were given menus that listed lower prices and were labeled as dinner menus, so there was no indication they were incorrect. However, when we received the bill, we were charged higher prices than what was shown. It turns out we had been given lunch menus at our 5:00 dinner reservation, and this wasn't explained to us at any point. Overall, the long wait, missing drink, rushed timing, and pricing confusion made for a frustrating experience. read more

I had an amazing meal and experience at The Bijou. After years of walking by and looking in... I finally made it there. I had the best plate of Sea Bass anyone has ever cooked along with Bourbon BBQ wings as an appetizer. The wings were brought out crispy and saucy, the way they should be cooked anywhere in Buffalo. The Sea Bass was melt in your mouth. It was the best seafood dish I've ever had in the city of Buffalo... I'll be back for that dish alone. The service was okay. Not bad but not the greatest. I did appreciate the woman taking my reservation over the phone for two spots at the bar. The place was definitely cool. I really enjoyed sitting by the window and seeing Shea's Theater all lit up in the lights with Giant Nutcrackers above the sign. Bathrooms were very clean too. The service is friendly and attentive, but besides the location, that's the only good thing about this place. The chicken pot pie literally had ONE small bite of chicken. There was no bread or salad included and the portions are small. When I mentioned that there was no chicken in the "soup" that was supposed to be chicken pot pie, I was given an "Irish discount" of 10% - a whole $2.80 off the bill! It was a slow night so we got in easily. The place was quiet and allowed us to chat without feeling we couldn't hear one another. Waitress was lovely and very attentive. Drink I ordered from the bar was well made and the soup was good. Where the meal fell short was the entree which for both of us was just so so. We both got different pasta. The sauce based dish was over drenched with cream sauce that my friend said wasn't very flavorful. I had the same experience with the traditional pasta and meatball spaghetti dish. Both my companion and I had fish followed by dessert. The topping of my salmon was very sour, and the sauce in his mahi-mahi plate also tasted strange. The service was very good; the place looked good and was packed. After we went to the theater, my companion had symptoms of a very upset stomach. We got the soup for 2 people and then waited and waited. By 7:05 we said that we couldn't wait any longer and would like the bill to pay for our soup and drinks. So we have been dining here before Shea's shows all season! The food is great and reasonably priced for the area it's in. There was one experience with a not so friendly server, but we told the owner and the problem seems to be resolved! They recently revamped their menu for spring and we love it! Tonight we went in for a bite to eat before our movie at the AMC! We had the same server as last week and she was very friendly and funny! We like her a lot. I had rating a place this low, but a few things just took a star away. First was the space. Unless you sit in the expanded area on the sidewalk, the seating is extremely tight. Almost uncomfortably so. The second was that the pricing seemed a bit high for the meals. Portions are OK, but everything is a la carte. About 4 hours ahead of time, day of, received a phone call to confirm and then was told they weren't sure the kitchen would be open. My husband and I have birthdays 6 days apart so we always plan an extra special outing to celebrate. We were thrilled that theatre has returned to Buffalo following the pandemic so we scored tickets to a play and made reservations for dinner here at the Bijou grill. The show was at 7:30 so we made 6PM reservations. Since it was Saturday night we expected the restaurant to be busy, hence the 90 minute time frame. Our waitress took our drink order and returned in a timely fashion. At that time we gave her our dinner order, including an appetizer. Another couple arrived and was seated next to us. We received our appetizer, the Brussels sprouts and they were delicious.It was now 6:30 and we were anxious for our dinner: the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and an order of stuffed peppers- not a complicated order. The couple next to us, seated after us, received not only their salads but also their main courses while we continued to wait. Our waitress returned, took our 2nd drink order, assuring us our meals would be out momentarily. We were seated with a clear view of the kitchen area and hoping to see our meals come up - it was now 7 PM. Our theater tickets were for 7:30. We received our 2nd drinks , asking the waitress about our meals and were told the kitchen was 'experiencing' delays despite what we were observing. We asked her to bring our bill with our meals which she assured us would be soon. The couple next to us, while enjoying their dessert, were surprised that we were still waiting. When it got to 7:21 we decided we would not have time to eat and requested our check . As the waitress brought our check, our dinner was delivered. Unfortunately we could not stay. We were charged full price for drinks and the appetizer with no acknowledgment or accommodation for the substandard and unsatisfactory service. I went here for my boyfriend's 22nd birthday with his family. After we ordered our waitress came back and forgot what 2 of the people in our party ordered and forgot they had a certain pop, then our food came out and she brings me the wrong order (I was not one of the people who's order she came back to clarify). We then told her that I did not order the steak but I ordered the chicken, she takes away the steak then they bring out the chicken maybe 5 minutes later. I cut into my chicken and it's RAW, so we sent back my meal again, and by the time my food got out everyone else is just about done eating. All while our waitress is "serving" us, shes sitting down and talking to the one other table that's in there or going on her phone and barely paying our party any mind, and keep in mine including our table there were only 2 tables, our party of 6 and her friends' party of 2. Our waitress never said sorry for anything wrong that happened, and after getting the pink chicken rushed our meal, gave us the bill mid meal, and was constantly staring at us. The Bijou Grille has a new look! The oft times "eclectic" labeled Bijou has been simplified. The restaurant has a fresh new color that offers clean, simple lines and a more contemporary look . It's Purple-hued interior now blends nicely with the Bijou's signature Magenta accented stained glass lighting. Wall art has been reorganized and updated to include a roaring twenties, Coco Chanel look that accents the Bijou theme. The grand mural of 'Singing In The Rain' cast members Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor still graces the lounge area greeting guests as they arrive. Show posters - reflecting the Theatre District - are positioned throughout the dining and lounge area. Above the restaurant the Bijou reveals a spacious banquet room for larger groups and private functions. The banquet area can host 80 seated guests or 100 revelers for cocktails. Executive Chef Mike Greco has unveiled Bijou Grille's 'California Bistro Dining' menu for the 2013-14 Theatre Season. I sampled the new menu at 'Curtain Up' and left - very, very satiated. I ordered the Roasted Red Pepper soup which was cup size, reasonably priced and had a robust flavor and nicely thick consistency. It was served hot and was a great start to my meal. From the specials menu I ordered a Pan Seared Filet Mignon topped with Shrimp Etouffee. I'm 'very' particular about meat temps and was pleased when I received an excellent medium-rare filet that quite literally cut like butter. The etouffee added a nice Creole seafood flavor and texture that paired well with my steak. I enjoyed the sides of roasted Brussels Sprouts and Red Potatoes as well. The dish was simple and elegant. I was happy to see that one of my favorite desserts - Strawberries & Cream - was still on the dessert menu. It's described simply as 'white cake, with fresh strawberries & whipped cream frosting' but I feel obliged to describe it as a slice of heaven. For me the very light, barely sweet, whipped frosting does the trick. It's so, so good. To balance out my dining experience I ordered a signature coffee drink - Bijou Coffee - made with Courvoisier Cognac, coffee and a whipped cream float. Despite the very busy night, the food was delicious and the service attentive. It's so nice to see the new - Bijou Grille. read more
