Fun coffee shop in the heart of downtown Buffalo, definitely worth a visit. I was staying at Hotel Lafayette for a couple of nights and right before I checked out I decided to swing by to grab a coffee. While you can enter from the street, it's also connected from inside the hotel, which is honestly how it caught my attention. The space is actually pretty big, bigger than I expected. It's open, colorful, there's a ton of natural light, cool murals all over the walls, luscious greenery, and a variety of seating options. The counter where you order is nice and open, with a big menu, and a sheet of glass between the customers and what I quickly came to know is their staple item, the cruller - a donut-like pastry that's super airy on the inside with a delicious icing glaze on the outside. Along with my oat milk latte, I had to try one... ok two. I got a seasonal Pride one and I can't remember the other one. Both were dreamy and it was easy to see why they are so popular. In the mood for a donut whilst walking around the pier area in Buffalo and searched for the best, closest donut spot we could find. Pleasant service from Samuel and inside was poppin' with lots of guests. Nice decor and was connected to an older hotel. Movie recommendations and WIFI code on the wall, as well as the restroom code but you will need to head through the hotel to get to it. Public Espresso is one of my favorite coffee shops in Buffalo, NY! There are two locations, one in Hotel Lafayette and another on Seneca Street. They have some of the best donuts and breakfast sandwiches. The service is consistently accommodating and they work hard to make sure everyone is served in a timely and efficient manner. Especially because it is typically quite busy! All their drinks are made fresh to order and their pastries are phenomenal! Their crullers are my favorite. There were a lot of people. That's a sign it is a good place. The donuts, and other goods are yummy. I really like the lavender cruller it was delicious same goes with the nutella croissant. One thing i didnt enjoy as much was the sausage egg and cheese. I didnt like the taste of the sausage. It taste very processed and machine taste. It threw off the taste for me. It's a millennial Gen atmosphere. Most clientele on computers and working out of a coffee shop...? Self order delivered to table. I am not a coffee/latte drinker so there were no normal beverages to offer other than the the coffee that add all their odd ingredients. I personally would have bolted and looked for more of of Gen x diner but we needed something fast. I ordered BEC breakfast sandwich and my friend avocado toast. Both fresh hot and delicious. Wish they had some normal water and juice choices in the fridge. I'm not ordering espresso with ten toppings... the water that they had was warm and I emptied the small tank. I can't really rate this place properly because I only ran in to pick up my 1/2 dozen Crullers, which were amazing btw !! I received: 1- peanut 1- Strawberry 1- Maple 1- Salted Caramel (a bit too salty,but still good) 1- Cinnamon & I have no idea what the last one was. It looked like poppy seeds were on it. They were all delicious. The cafe looked really nice & relaxing. I liked the atmosphere in there. I definitely wanna try it out sometime. Just sit with someone & have a coffee & something to eat. I've wished to come to Public Espresso and finally my wish came true and it was all I expected and more. I ordered ahead to make sure they didn't run out of what I wanted to try. And I wanted to try so many things so better safe then sorry! The on line process was very easy and I got a text message that my order was ready ahead of schedule as well. The staff were so efficient and friendly. When I got there I saw a few other items I wanted to take home, they were absolutely gracious and didn't make me feel in any way like I was inconveniencing them. Now I have to tell you that it was a long time before I got home and tasted my avocado toast or my sweet potato scrambled eggs and toast bowl. So the photos in no way do them justice. But I assure you they tasted delightful. They were so well seasoned. So if you're expecting bland flavorless avocado, you aren't going to get it here. The same with the sweet potato's. Every single bite was well seasoned. No mushy flavorless bites anywhere in the bowl. The eggs were perfectly scrambled and it came with hot buttered toast ..... real fresh baked bread and real butter.... Need I say more? Just let go and enjoy it's well worth it. The portions were really generous for both the bowl and the avocado toast. Crullers were airy on the inside and crispy on the outside bites of heaven. The donuts were completely satisfying. Rich and creamy moist and one would last all day!! The Bagel Jar bagels.... It's true, they are excellent. I tried to figure out what it was about them that made them so special. The best way I can explain it is, a plain bagel doesn't taste plain. It tastes yeasty yummy rich with the perfect crunch on the outside and pull on the inside. If you work downtown, you're very lucky to be close enough to stop by and grab something yummy. If not they are open on the weekend so get up and get down ,there you won't be sorry. read more

They have my favorite cold brew in the area. Excellent donuts - apple cider is my favorite. Also very good eats. Maybe everyone walks from near by but luckily I was able to get a spot across the street (had to pay a meter though) and it was raining so I didn't want to go any further. I heard good things about the breakfast sandwich so I tried one on a a bagel with sausage and cheese . The sausage didn't have good flavor and there was hardly any egg on it. The last 2 chocolate chip cookies were sold to the person in front of us so I asked if we waited could we get one when they were ready but was told they were sold out for the day! Public espresso is the place I've been searching for. I was quite bored of the typical buffalo coffee shops and wanted to switch it up to a place where I could still study but also have breakfast or lunch at the same time. Public espresso is it! I am a huge matcha girl and their matcha really hit the spot for me. It's not too earthy or bitter but enough that it tastes like matcha. As far as the food, did you know that public espresso is known as the best donut shop in buffalo on some accounts? They have fresh cruller's glazed in a variety of different flavors. My family got the cinnamon glazed and it was honestly one of the best donuts I've ever had. Of their breakfast items, we had the diner platter and the breakfast sandwich, both of which were so big. The breakfast sandwich is egg, cheddar and a huge piece of sausage made in house on an English muffin. It was so big I couldn't even finish it. The atmosphere is super nice. There's certainly chatter but it's still quiet enough that you can get work done. I will certainly be back. read more

Talk about a great place to get some morning food and coffee from on any morning but specifically a weekend morning. Located right in the Lafayette Hotel building it's a prime location for folks visiting from out of town or even someone like me who lives close to downtown. You might want to get there early as I've gone a couple times hear the 10-11 an hour and the line picks up a bit. It looks as if you can most certainly order online as well, seemed a lot of people were taking that route too. Have been having the Vlad breakfast sandwich for quite some time now and I just can't see myself ordering anything different! Everything tastes fresh and one of my favorite seats is right at the bar so you can watch staff make all sorts of fun and tasty forms of coffee. Their pastry selection is like no other. The biggest issue with the pastries is obviously picking which one(s) you'll want to try. I remember coming to Public for the first time, in the days where they were still in the lobby of the Hotel Lafayette. I always thought it was super cool how their 'front desk' had turned into a little live-in coffee shop. While I was sad to see them moving away from that experience, I know moving to a bigger redesigned space (still within the hotel, of course) was what was best for this local coffee giant. I say giant now, because look how much they've grown! TWO locations, and pop-ups in the Dash's markets all over Buffalo? It's amazing how much this business has thrived, and just by paying one visit you'll easily be able to see why. Their coffee options? Great. What a variety. Though I typically side for the tea - and I particularly like how at this location, they've got a variety of tea latte flavors to try. I'd say what game has been amped up here is the food. THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC. Such a cool variety on their menu, from soups and sandwiches to tasty pastries. Did I mention all-day breakfast? Sign me up. I'll crush a breakfast sandwich for lunch and not even bat an eye. One thing I've never been a fan of with this location is their closing time. On multiple occasions I've done afternoon events at the Hotel Lafayette and always wished I could grab a quick bite to eat or a latte from a local shop before getting to work. I guess I get it, during the week traffic in the afternoons is probably super slow, but with the increasing bustle of downtown during the weekends, I really wish they would consider some extended hours! I ordered the avocado toast with an over medium egg - The egg was perfect, the Sourdough toast itself was delicious but it was really, really over-salted, Which is why I took one star off. I had my friend taste it as well and she agreed that it was way too salty. There was no mention of it being salted on the menu so, if I go back and order that I will be sure to say no salt. My friend ordered a bacon egg sandwich which came with a pickle mayonnaise that she enjoyed thoroughly. Ehhhh I wanted to love this place I really did, since I love trying new coffee places. Both times my lattes were like warm (Chaga and the ginger snap) the pastries in the am were yummy but the Ricotta "toast" was awful. It's not toast if it's just cold bread!
