Spot is a lovely neighborhood cafe and coffee house to come in, grab a drink and a bite to eat, and relax inside of by the fireplace. Service is polite and friendly, and the drink and food menus offer a variety of options for everyone in the family and even the picky eaters. I'm a sucker for an iced latte, even in cold weather, so coming inside to warm up and cozy up with an iced latte at Spot was exactly what I think of first thing in the morning. The food and drinks are not a unique, out of this world experience, however, paired together with the variety of the menu, the friendliness and promptness of the service, and the overall atmosphere of the shop, it's hard not to like it. read more

Came here on a Sunday for lunch and had a good experience. I ordered a jasmine green tea and a garden veggie burger on wheat focaccia. The burger came with a side of chips or greens (I got greens) and the burger was topped with hummus, lettuce and tomatoes. The greens were lightly dressed with oil and tasted good and fresh. My only criticism about the "burger" was that it didn't resemble a burger because the patty was pressed flat into a layer synonymous with the hummus and other toppings. Taste was good but not as flavorful as I hoped. The people I came with got pizzas and those looked amazing. read more

I researched the dog policy online prior to coming and "Bring Fido" suggested one could order coffee and bring it outside to their outdoor seating. I did mobile order so I wouldn't have to wait in line with my dog. Upon entering a staff member yelled that they don't allow dogs from across the cafe. I was mortified. I told her I was just picking up a mobile order. She again yelled you can't bring your dog in the future. I always call ahead or look online to see whether places allow dogs before coming. I never would bring him to a place that wasn't dog friendly. Yelling at patrons from across the cafe (cafe was completely packed) is rude and unnecessary. It is not hard to politely tell a customer the dog policy. No need to worry about me bringing my dog in the future... we'll just take our business down the street to Spoke and Dagger. Better coffee, better ambience, and interestingly they don't berate customers with dogs. read more

I want to give this place 5 stars for the customer service alone, but unfortunately I cannot. The place has more of a local atmosphere than other locations, and the baristas are very friendly. You'll find many frequent fliers in the neighborhood here which makes it feel less like a chain. I've given up on the food, but now I have to say I've given up on the coffee. I've tried it on 4 occasions at this location. It's practically $7 for a medium and always has an incredibly bitter/burnt taste but somehow also way to incredibly sweet. I even brought a bag of beans home and ended up tossing them. For the price, I just can't justify the dip in quality over the past few years with all Spot coffees. read more

It's one of the very best locations of this popular local chain, and doesn't get too hot in the summer although AC could be better - and doesn't get too cold in the winter although heating could be better - so I recommend staying near the fire when it's really cold. Trust me you're going to want to know about that. The Caramel drink over ice or whatever it's called is actually pretty good and possibly one of the best parts of the coffee experience is all the different buffalonians including hipsters and hippies of old and pretty much all the different types of people that you would want to meet and know will be here which is pretty awesome. Like several other locations, from this Spot, I've sampled the new incarnation of the legendary Chicken Focaccia Sandwich just last week, and it is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. It's off the charts yum. It's tender and juicy and luscious and pesto-y as always, but now it has this lovely red sauce on it too (that tastes like the sauce from Niagara Cafe that I love so much... what if it is!?!?!?!?)... and it's just amazing. A coffee shop that's clean, spaced out (due to COVID concerns I assume), and has outdoor seating sometimes. The staff were friendly and seemed to enjoy each other as well - which is a good sign. I feel like this location gets a strange mix of folks - from neighborhood residents, UB Students, and Hertel visitors. In that case, it can be confusing to people watch. Spot is like the Starbucks of Buffalo but unlike Starbucks the service is way more hit or miss. This is more of a service review than store or product review. My wife and I stood in line on a Saturday morning where they were decently busy. The girl in a purple fleece and leggings and a pony tail was extremely rude and dismissive of my wife and I. No smile no words just snappy instructions or comebacks to simple requests. Just tossed us our pastries like she didn't want to touch us and got my wife's drink wrong. It was coffee with almond milk how do you get that wrong. At first I thought she was just having a bad day but while waiting for my drink I observed her interactions with the rest of the line and saw none of the same animosity and disregard shown to my wife and I. The only reason for two stars was the male barista with a red flannel and backwards hat was very cordial and conversational while I was waiting for the coffee. This is an issue I see more and more in Buffalo with the current health scares and politics climate. Be informed and try to grow out of your ignorance Buffalo. read more

This used to be my favorite Spot location. I loved the tables and seating arrangement, they were excellent for studying. The staff were a friendly and cool bunch. And coming to Hertel is always fun. I came back after some time away, and it is different. First thing I noticed was the tables are rearranged, I assume due to covid worries. It's not so inviting and comfy as it used to be. This is understandable I guess. But the staff these days are pretty weird, and this is why I'm posting. They seem so friendly and close with each other, but rude to customers. What a dichotomy. I walked to the register, and the woman at the counter greeted me with her back to me, not turning around in the least. "Hi, how are you doing?!" Uh, was she talking to me? Actually it's her way of asking her colleague to take care of me. I saw her do it with others. It was somewhat disconcerting, confusing. The guy took my order, i just wanted a black coffee, but after finishing he went back to what he was doing without grabbing my coffee. After a minute I tell the girl he forgot my coffee, to which she replied sarcastically, "I forgot your coffee?" I said again, he forgot my coffee. Why take it so personal huh? There was just this weird generalized hostility, coming from nowhere, that really bugs me. I'm not eager to return. read more

Worst cinco shake ever. It tasted like vanilla and that was it. There was no espresso, chocolate, or caramel flavors. Our drinks were white, so I find it hard to believe there was any espresso in them, and there was no caramel in the cup. When I questioned the staff about it, the only response was "I can add another shot of espresso." Not to mention when they made our drinks there was a mess all over our cups, and they didn't try or offer to clean them up. We ended up throwing them out they were so awful. This location actually feels more open than the Elmwood location, maybe because it's more brightly lit? The crowd is a little different, too. The Elmwood location is closer to a college so there's a lot more students. If you want a younger, noisier vibe, you'd prefer that one. This one seems more quiet and subdued, and I was at both on a Sunday afternoon. My son had a hot chocolate. I tried a mocha. Still too much of a coffee flavor for me, but, as always, that's on me. Just wish I could find an alternative to hot chocolate in the winter because it's just too sweet for me now. It was clean when we visited. Service is friendly. read more

He said sure, we cashed out, THEN he proceeded to tell the cashier in a condescending manner never to do that again loudly so the whole cafe could hear. He continued to tell her how she should have rang it up in a tone like she was incompetent. If you are in a position of management learn how to professionally pull someone aside quietly and explain to them that they probably should just say we can't do that instead of causing a scene in front of customers. He made the cashier, me and my guest extremely uncomfortable. It was taken way too far, someone like that should not be in managemen. Not a good look for the company. Nice Spot branch! Definitely have the nicest baristas working. They were super friendly and helpful when ordering and I noticed were very patient with other customers. I had to some work, so spent the afternoon (Saturday) and it was a nice work space. There are different sections of seating in this branch one next to the cashier, one next to the big windows looking out the street, and one section further in the back of the store. I prefer bright lighting, so I chose to sit at a table in the area next to the street-side window. They have a couple outlets against the walls, which was convenient for me. The section in the back of the store is extremely dark and there aren't many outlets. The only inconvenient thing about this place is that you need to request a wifi code (which they print for you on a receipt-looking piece of paper), and that only lasts 2 hours. That being said, if you're there for more than 2 hours, you may have to get another snack for another wifi code slip. (I think you can just ask for another slip, but I felt bad asking again so bought another snack.) Definitely a nice Spot to work at! Will come back again for sure. :) read more

I love this SPoT Coffee location. I took a star off for parking, but that says nothing about the people, the service, or the food/drinks. I almost always order the same thing - an omelet with provolone cheese, peppers, and bacon with a sesame bagel (toasted, cream cheese on the side). They always cook it to perfection. Every. Single. Time. I've been to another SPoT where I order the same thing, but it is not consistently good. I also usually get a tall breve latte. Always good & always with some nice little foam art. There are plenty of seats. There's free Wi-Fi. The bathroom may not always be spotless, but it smells clean & everything works. The employees are awesome. There's outdoor seating. And if you're still playing Pokemon Go, you can spin at the Pokestop the entire time you're seated there. read more

Unfortunately, I absolutely love Spot coffee. But this location has let me down a number of times. They do seem to be very busy! So I know what it's like to work in a busy restaurant and mistakes happen. But the fact that it has happened every single time that I've gone to the specific location lets me know that something else might be going on.. And what I mean by that is, failure to read directions, staff not properly trained, things like that. I always ask, and pay for extra cream cheese... Very rarely receive it. I also asked for a short chocolate in my cinco shake, and never taste like the other locations do! My fiancé has ordered a BLT a few times, with no mayo. And they have put mayo on it more often than not! Last time I ordered took my sandwich it was just completely inedible, I don't think they put any cheese on it? I'm not sure. But I've never turn down on Mike's sandwich in my life so it was upsetting Anyways with that being said I didn't want to give them some horrible rating, I gave them three stars because I love this franchise and I hope this location can get it together now that it's the closest one to us. read more

They served about 5 people and then finally the same person that took my order asked what I was waiting for? They just never made my drink. Then today, I order 2 mike sandwiches online for myself and my husband. My husband gets there to pick it ip and they never made the order. Then after waiting again, we get home and they put avocado on my husbands sandwich and he is allergic. I called to tell them and they tell me we ordered it with avocado, which we didnt. Spot Coffee is a Buffalo institution and a place I knew I needed to take my dad for a quick breakfast on Sunday when he was here visiting me from Connecticut. Although this isn't the closest location to me, it made for a good excuse to show my dad Hertel Ave which made it the perfect location. This location is pretty huge and offers both the Spot menu we all love and a ton of different areas to sit down and enjoy it. For those that haven't been to a Spot Coffee the menu here features a ton of different sandwiches, wraps, shakes, coffees, and pastries to fill you up for either breakfast, lunch, or even dinner. Since I'm actually an 11 year old stuck in a 31 year old body my breakfast of choice consisted of a chocolate chip scone with a vanilla iced drink on the side. The scone was a pretty good size and was super tasty to match it. The scone was a mixture of soft and hard (if that even makes sense) and made for a perfect companion to my vanilla iced drink. The vanilla wasn't too strong and the iced wasn't to hard, so basically it was a slushy that tasted vanilla. Overall, Spot Coffee did both myself and my father good and hit it out of the park. Around here, Spot takes the win for the most delicious with their own blend. I don't know what it is, but if you like chai, you'll love it! On to the turkey panini. It might not look all that fancy but it is soooo good. Perfectly made and served with an option of chips or greens. I always go greens and let me tell you, whatever brand of balsamic they use is the bomb! I ask for extra to dip my panini in! Service wise- they're always great. Seriously if you haven't been to Spot, you're missing out. The staff are friendly and fast, it's always clean and cozy. WiFi and comfy chairs if you need to hang out and get some work done. Prices are average and the portions are well sized. Today I got my panini to go, and they individually wrap each half for you which is so convenient! I have to say I've become highly disappointed with Spot over the years. I don't know if it's because I've gotten older and after becoming an effininado with ordering at Starbucks or if its influx of millennials, generation z and hipsters filling their workforce. I lived in area when this location opened and had very high hopes, it was less eclectic in furniture, visually not as assaulting in art and CLEAN. Now previously all of the traits except being dirty were items that charmed me in my youth of 24hr Spot, rolling in after the club and sipping coffee till sunrise but as coffee shops in general have become retreats from home and another workspace those features became distracting. I know at this location management has turned over at least once and staff appears to be a revolving door. Consistency in service here is shotty at best and often is based upon the cashier's or barista's mood and tolerance for having to deal with people. Why do I keep coming here? Because they have some of my favorites! Namely the Mike's Sandwich on an everything bagel with either bacon or ham and soy cafe au lates. I've had their Belgium waffle before too and that was delish! If you find a more artsy workspace your cup of tea more so than the corporate feel I'd say stop here for a cup check the board to see what is going on locally. read more

If I'm rating this Spot in particular: 4 stars If I'm rating Spot overall: 3 starts Spot wins points for the quality of their drinks and dedication to providing good service. The food is tasty, if expensive for what it is. If you're going to splurge I suggest a Mike's sandwich with sausage or a spicy tuna wrap with side salad. There's always plenty of room at the Hertel location but other Spots (pun intended) can fill up fast. I particularly like the roaring electric fire they have going in the winters near the large table. When I first moved to Buffalo Spot was all 5s in my eyes. Then they had an issue where corporate fired several workers when they tried to unionize. There were protests and I stopped coming here for a while. I've heard they have since allowed the union to exist, but if anyone else knows differently, please let me know. read more
