Typical spot, nice environment great coffee but the one thing that demotes this to a 3 is that some of the employees (more than any other location) seem more concerned about carrying on their own personal conversation, often the loudest people in the shop, rather than basic interaction with customers. Is often very distracting, making you feel that you are intruding in on their personal time. Fireplace is great during winter and great patio for summer. read more

The desserts are really good too. I will not hesitate to go in to see If I can get whole cakes and pies for events or even just for at home! They were so kind to answer all our questions and made my London Fog with lavender, which in my opinion is the best kind of London Fog but not every place has it. The space is also super comfy. There were people playing chess at one table and a bunch of nice couches in the back where we were able to hang out. We didn't try the food but it smelled quite good. Somewhere to get a mocha other than starbucks or dunkin donuts? Who knew??? In actuality, Buffalo is a place that is not overrun by chain restaurants dominating a culinary scene like in other cities. While chains have their place here, independent restaurants rule without a doubt. Enter Spot Coffee, which has grown into a local chain of cafes across the city. I went out one evening with a hankering for something warm and sweet. Since none of my exes ever featured both of those qualities simultaneously, that meant I was looking for an expresso drink and a dessert. I was pleased to find a spot coffee location in my old stomping grounds on the north side of the city. Ample street parking is a plus. The interior is a wide open space that is pretty bright for a cafe but also has a relaxed sort of vibe. The baristas are very engaging and efficient I ordered a cocomoco (expresso, steamed chocolate milk and whipped cream), a macaroon and a slice of heath bar cheesecake. The cocomoco was hot and filled to the brim. It had an excellent balance of sweetness from the chocolate and creaminess with the whip cream blending in. The expresso flavor wasn't as pronounced as the drinks at Starbucks; it was kind of like drinking an upgraded version of hot chocolate. The macaroon was the size of a hockey puck.....just like I like them! Very soft, chewy and sweet. Coconut is the principal ingredient to stand out with chocolate serving as a compliment. I savored every bite! The heath bar cheesecake was good but in the grand scheme was just average. It was basically cheesecake with chocolate, caramel and nuts on top. Visited a friend for coffee (hot chocolate for me because I'm not a coffee drinker). I liked the place, it was big with plenty of seating and a large menu of different foods and drinks. With vegetarian and gluten-free options this place is perfect for almost anybody. The hot chocolate was really good and at the barrista's suggestion I tried their seasonal spicy cinnamon hot chocolate with whipped topping of course. It was really tasty and with my friends tea the total came to only about 6 dollars. Not too bad. I enjoyed the experience I'd come back again for sure. read more

Spot is like Starbuck's hipster cousin. It's not quite a mom and pop (in fact, there are Spot's in Florida), but is is a coffee shop chain that originated in Buffalo, NY. Despite the corporate overtones, Spot is a neat little place and this location on Hertel is as good as the others. Although keep in mind: it's a bit harder to park here as it doesn't have its own parking lot like its Elmwood counterpart. The coffee is generally pretty good, the staff is generally pretty friendly and I'm a big fan of their breakfast items...from the omlettes to the Mike sandwich. They've usually been pretty happy to let me customize by orders as well, for instance -- the omlettes come with breadsticks or bread that they generally serve with some butter, but you can ask for a healthy hummus substitute most times. Wifi is pretty crappy so I would never come to Spot for an extended period of time to get work done. It's always been a near miss. However, if you want a quick sandwich or get some none-Internet studying done, Spot is a great option. read more

I love meeting up with friends at Spot for coffee and dessert! Their coffee is really good, but I actually really like their mango smoothies. Prices are a little high, but the quality of their coffee is worth it, in my opinion. Their version of rice krispie treats are delicious and huge! It's usually pretty busy, but I've always been able to find a seat. They have a couple of couches and armchairs, in addition to regular chairs and tables, which I prefer when I meet up with a friend. There's pretty much always a place to sit, which is cool. They do have free wifi but it's on a time limit and you have to ask if you want if you want more time, so that's a bit annoying. He waited to speak up and I couldn't get the pizza until after my appointment at nine. Now that may sound not great, but the head Staff member behind the counter apologized immediately and explain what it happened, bonus points for honesty and when I came back he saw me immediately and approached me by name and was ready to make my pie. He made it quickly and he told me he made it himself and it was absolutely phenomenal. One of the best brick oven pizzas I've had, and I know novice to pizza . Despite the fact it's a coffee joint, I go here for the food. They have very good breakfast items and their soups and sandwiches are delicious and fresh. In my experience the place has always been clean. The service has always been friendly and in general it seems to serve a good mix of the north Buffalo community. But here's the rub- their drip coffee is just average. I make mine in a French press, so I understand the coffee I drink at home is much stronger than anything served here or Hortons or Dunkin or Starbucks. I have never been to this Spot location previously but this will not be my last stop. Service here is great, the baristas are friendly with great recommendations. I originally ordered the Mediterrano Pizza and a black coffee but when it was time to pay, I noticed a flyer that stated a Sunday Special: Waffles with fresh berries, chocolate and carmel drizzle with whip cream. I immediately had buyers regret that must have shown on my face since the barista noticed and was like, "it's not too late to change your mind". Of course I said yes to changing my order from pizza to waffles, with a quick run back to the kitchen I was on my way to a slightly sweeter, less healthy lunch. After making my waffle the cook from the back even got me a brand new fork that was just washed as there was no silver ware available at the counter (only plastic). This service alone deserves 5 stars. I always get my coffee black so this house brand is mild and was not distinctive but still hit the spot (pun intended). The waffles were good, not too sweet but I love the fresh strawberries to complement the waffle. The space and grouping of tables in this spot was very spacious where you didn't feel like you were right next to another table. Parking is on Hertel Ave or North Park, which wasn't a problem today but I see could be a problem on a busier timeframe. This spot requires a Wifi ticket to be used to access their free Wifi. I find that practice slightly strange but am not willing to deduct my rating unfavorable for that. All in all, great coffeehouse that probably take over Starbucks for me when I want to get some work done in a sit down type atmosphere. read more

This location is so perfect! I live in North Buffalo, so it's incredibly easy to walk to this location and back to my house (it's a little over a mile total). Easy to get to; great place to hang out. The mixed drinks are fantastic, and I really have been enjoying their pumpkin spotiscle and they made a pumpkin chai latte for me the other day that was killer. I think over the years I've had every drink creation Spot has made, and I've enjoyed every single one of them. I usually mix it up because you can't go wrong with anything here. The staff is alright and there's usually a place to sit. The food is fine. Spot isn't usually the place I go to have lunch or dinner, but for having a little snack with a specialty drink while I work, it's OK for that. I love when they have vegan specialties, but, it's not usually a place I go to when hungry. Of all the Spots, this one's my favorite. It is by far best place to study. It's got a good, respectful crowd, awesome baristas, well lit, warm, good service, free wifi (make sure you ask them for a wifi code), and they're open late!! Study location: 4/5 Food: 2.5/5 This Spot definitely has the warmest atmosphere in every sense. It is actually nice and cozy inside (as opposed to the one on Elmwood, which I find to be either freezing or stiflingly warm), and they have a fire place to sit by for added warmth. The lighting is nice and bright, not blindingly so but enough that you can read your textbooks without going blind. And, I cannot emphasize enough, the baristas are all very friendly. As for the food and drink, pretty standard across all Spots. Their coffee is, as always, solid, from their regular coffee to their espresso drinks. Unfortunately, it is oh, so expensive!!! I think an Americano at Spot actually costs more than one at Starbucks, which is baffling. I'm not a big fan of the food, which is both overpriced (~$10 for everything) and just plain unimpressive. Their veggie options are sort of meh. They've got a hummus wrap which is often soggy, a few veggie pizza options that are only okay, definitely not the gourmet that is advertised, (a 7-or-so inch pie for like $11/$12), and some salads. I'd feel a lot better about buying food here if they knocked $2 off a bunch of their main items. My study buddy has pretty similar sentiments regarding non-veggie options: the product is not worth the money. Of everything on the menu, Spot's quesadillas are my favorite. They change up the filling every week and for some reason I can't think of any of them right now, but I'd say if you have to get anything, this is it. It is, in my opinion, one of the better tasting items on their menu and a better value overall, since it comes with a side salad too. If you're not looking for a full-on meal, you could also get a side of hummus with "breadsticks", which are slices of their focaccia. The hummus is made in house with rotating flavors like zucchini, roasted garlic, artichoke, lemon, etc., and they're pretty generous with the amount of hummus they give. This is by far the biggest bang for your buck at Spot, costs around $5 and can keep you pretty full. Great study spot, not the best food. read more

I was very disappointed by this location of Spot Coffee. The first time coming here I walked in to a long line and few individuals working. After waiting in both the line to order and the long line to get my drink I sat down at one of the only tables available. I then got all settled down only to find that the WiFi was working because it was SO slow. The only reason I came to Spot was to do work so it was extremely frustrating that I had to leave due to the poor quality WiFi. It just made me upset and I hope they can increase the efficiency if they are going to have lots of customers using it at once. read more

We have ordered online multiple times so we can just grab it and go. all of the times we ordered online no one has made the order or have even realized there was online orders placed. when we go in to pick up, the restaurant is not busy, and all the employees are just standing around. when we ask where our order is, it takes them another 30-40 mins to make our order, after we waited 30-40 minutes and it was supposed to be done. customer service is off here. recommend driving the extra few miles to go to a better spot if ya wanna order online. read more

So being as cold as it was last night, my husband and I saw the warm glow of the coffee house as we crossed the street and eagerly jumped inside seeking a minute of warmth and something hot. It was pretty cool because as we came in we Saw two fellow yelpers, Whitney and Alex. They cordially invited us over and we got our drinks to join them in some interesting conversation. I have never been to this location, but have loved the staff of every Spot Coffee I have been to. It was at the end of the shift before closing and despite a long night of the baristas being right in front of the door and obviously being tired from their day at work were kind and sweet. They were patient with us after we changed something on our order and cashier was all smiles. The barista chatted us up as she made our orders and all in all I was extremely happy to get my hot chai. The chai was a perfect temperature and so we sat down to talk. My over all observation was the place was orderly, clean and pretty popular as even at the end of the day was fairly busy...even on a frigid night. So over all, if I am in the area again, I would definately stop in for a drink. read more

I finally made it in here today and was not impressed. The menu is the same as the other locations. The espresso (but not the drip) coffee is good and I like the sandwiches. This place has a lot of room to sit and a nice clean bathroom. But it is kind of cold and sterile feeling. I far prefer the Spots in Elmwood Village and Downtown. I would return to sit outside during the summer or maybe when shopping on hertel. Some random observations 1. Why not install a changing table. It's a new place. The bathroom is big enough. You know people are coming with their kids. Why make them change them on the floor? 2. I think some of the coffee prices were high. I ordered a red eye (drip coffee plus espresso) and it was nearly $5. I realized afterwards that I could have ordered a large coffee plus an espresso and it would have been cheaper. 3. I also regretted paying extra to have butter on my bagel when I realized that there was just free butter near the back. read more

See, about the sandwich named Mike, you need one. You just don't know it yet. The earliest purveyor of the coffee scene in Buffalo is also one of its most consistent. While it only seems like you need a laptop or tablet to come into Spot, it's not the truth. Luddites can come in and enjoy the compact MIke, two fried eggs, cheese (I add bacon to mine) along with cream cheese all spread on the bread of your choosing. While I love a good croissant, let me suggest the planning on a foccaccia bread delivery system. It will get those ingredients to your mouth and safely avoid your shirt. Quality coffee as well at decent prices. Really good food can happen if you are willing to get out of your car to get it. So, pull over. My personal favorite of all Spot locations, and I love them all. A quiet, quaint atmosphere. Never crowded, never loud. Perfect for conversation with a friend, for a meeting/interview, or for studying and computer work. The coffee is the same as all Spot locations. I recommend the Japanese Style Cold Brew iced coffee, as that's what I usually get. Their muffins and bagels are excellent as well. Service is friendly, quirky and interesting- just as I'd want from a coffee shop. They also have a nice outdoor patio area to sit at in summer months. The right mood for just about anything. Hertel is truly one of Buffalo's gems, and this Spot location is a big part of it. read more

First of all, these are the nicest Spot employees that I've ever interacted with. Sweet, kind, and efficient professional people who do whatever they can to help. I recommend this location over Main, Transit, and Elmwood. For drinks: Their caramel macchiato is one of the best (and sweetest) I've ever had. The cinco shake (if you don't care about calories) is better than any starbucks frapp. You can't go wrong with a jet-tea smoothie. Their Chai Tea Latte is nothing too special. They put two shots of espresso in their small (Tim Horton's only does one) so it was perfect. The atmosphere is great. It's quiet, spacious, and cozy. The menu never changes and is the same crappy food and even worse coffee as it was years ago. I only go because it is the only coffee shop open late to study. I went in the other day and inquired about their clam chowder, i dont eat pork so was asking if there was any in it and one of the guys behind the counter-instead of a simple no-started being really rude and insulting, saying stuff like "America was founded on bacon" and laughing loudly in my face he continued to go on and on with his co-workers. I usually visit the Elmwood location of Spot coffee when I need some caffeine and productive work time, so I am very happy that they just opened this Hertel location closer to my house. Today was my first visit and I am a fan! Pros: - Spacious with lots of seating - Great coffee (I am so excited that they offer almond milk!) - Good food (I had the mesclun salad with currants and sunflower seeds) - Free wifi that actually works. Sometimes the location on Elmwood has problems with this. - It was not smokey. Sometimes the Elmwood location burns something in the oven and it makes the whole place smokey. - Good hours. I really wanted to like Sweetness_7 on Parkside, but their hours are really limited (not to mention it is kind of cold in there). Yay for Spot! Cons: - No parking lot. I was able to find street parking today, but sometimes that area gets busy and I hate driving around looking for a spot. Don't park in the lot behind room-- you could get towed. - A little pricey. My salad was $8, and it was basically a huge plate of lettuce. It was delicious lettuce, but the price was a bit steep for a lunch of greens with no meat and no other fresh vegetables.
