I guess I slept on this gem. The food was absolutely delicious. The 534 Elmwood brisket sandwich was out of this world. The brisket melted in my mouth. It was all topped with heaps of jalapeño slaw, cheddar cheese, and some amazing tangy BBQ! We had it delivered, and the fish fry came hot and crispy! Large portion paired with perfectly cooked French fries salted to perfection. It came with macaroni salad, which wasn't my favorite, but it's a mustard base, and I'm not a fan of mustard. Stopped by on our way out of Buffalo, and I'm so glad we did. We tried the fried bologna sandwich, the chopped Italian, the pesto pasta salad, and the clam chowder. Took about 15-20 min to get our order and we ate out in our car. The fried bologna is totally underrated, the fry on the meat and the mustard cut through the richness of the cheese and the buttery bread. The chopped Italian was perfectly dressed, with the right amount of peppers and onions to balance the cheese and salty meats. The sandwich looked stuffed when I first opened it but I ended up eating every bite! Can't wait to come by when I'm next in town. read more

Joe's Deli is a Buffalo mainstay and after trying the sandwiches here, it is easy to see why. I would recommend the beef on weck if you want to try a food item popular in the area (this sandwich is popular in the northern part of New York), but their sandwich called "the Cutlet" for me is the real winner here. A chicken cutlet topped with spinach, mushrooms and cheese is it thing of great Beauty. I would definitely recommend this. The lines can get kind of long, but that is just a testament to their popularity. If you are in the Buffalo area and looking for a good sandwich, I would definitely recommend here. read more

Conveniently located very close to the FLW Martin house near Delaware Park. Right on Hertel Ave. There's plenty to choose from. The Tuna Sandwich is some of the best I've ever had. The cuban is completely out of this world. Delicious. Very clean, bright, pedestrian oriented and lots of parking. Thry feature outdoor seating in the warm weather. We were served quickly. The service is great, even if we were a little let down by the food. They have kids meals that are a good value at $5.50 for an entree and choice of two sides (or a drink and a side or two drinks.) My son ordered chicken nuggets. They are definitely made with the child nugget connoisseur in mind - if that child favors McDonald's nuggets, and of course I came in with the one child who doesn't. Plus you could tell it was fried in the same oil as the fish which didn't bother me, but did bother him. The actual chicken was very juicy and better quality than McDonald's. The batter just appears similar. I had a sweet turkey sandwich sans sweet potato fries by request. Part of why I've been wanting to try Joe's Deli is because they make some sandwiches with avocado. Sadly, mine seemed almost as low on the coveted avocado as the sweet potato fries. It came with homemade potato chips, of which my finicky son was a fan. The deli is cute with some indoor seating as well as outdoor. I wish there was a little more shade in front. To be honest, I'd probably try the fish fry if I stop in again. Wanted to try something different so I ordered from this deli. Did a build your own special. Chicken salad with franks on sour dough. Added cheddar, lettuce, cukes, and sprouts. Bottles of pop were severely over priced but I was excited to get a can of loganberry. Chicken salad was great. Not too much Mayo. Good sized chunks of chicken. Fresh produce. Finally decided to try out the eats in my new neighborhood & marched out on a rainy day to grab Joes for lunch. I was torn between the special & the Body but went with the Body. It definitely has a kick, the pickled veggies were an interesting twist, just next time I'd add some cheese. Prob my bad on ordering but I got lays instead of the house chips, assuming I was getting the house chips. It was a sandwich full of toppings for the price. If you're looking for delicious lunch or dinner options for the whole group, this is the spot and the prices can't be beat. This location is conveniently located on the corner of Hertel and Colvin and has a parking lot to its side should you need that. The service is always friendly and prompt and the sandwiches are always tasty! Most often, I've gotten their take on a Cuban Sandwich (which, despite not being on legit Cuban bread, is pretty solid.) All sandwiches come with chips and a pickle and you can "upgrade" to fries if you so choose. They have a good variety of drinks available, including your standard options, some "craft" sodas, and even some beers on tap. Joe's Deli for the win! This was the first meal of our trip. A friend of Brittany B's recommended she try a beef on weck sandwich during our time in Buffalo. I was totally on board when she started describing it. Not knowing where to go, I consulted Yelp and we discovered this awesome hole in the wall deli with the bad ass Buffalo mural to boot. Attention Insta models and bloggers, this mural is legit! This deli was already jumping with locals at 11:40 AM on a Wednesday so I was feeling rather positive about our selection of venues. The sandwiches feature really cool names and Joe's offers a wide variety. Delicious looking chips are paired with the sandwiches or one can opt for fries as we did for a small up charge. Because sharing is caring and variety is the spice of life, we chose different sandwiches so we could each try two. Dee and I shared the Thai chicken wrap and the beef on weck. We upgraded to fries for both and were pleasantly surprised to receive delicious hand cut fries with our orders. Heinz 57 is on tap along with some local craft beers. This deli truly was a score! The peeps behind the counters are both friendly and efficient. Orders are placed and paid for then one grabs a seat.... if available. My guess is this place gets a crowd on the regular! Friendly staff and they made my sandwich (which came with a bag of chips and a pickle) lickedty split. The sandwich roll is not the best I've ever had, kind of stodgy without much give. I'd prefer a wegmans sub roll that has some more give to it. Otherwise a solid sandwich. Doesn't look like much in the photo but was enough to make me full for hours! Except I have no idea if Mecca has delicious sandwiches. Probably some pretty good Kebabs though. Not pork kebabs mind you. But why travel afar for a sandwich when you have such marvellousness as Joe's Deli right in your very own Queen City? The Sinatra at Maple's Marco's is probably better than anything at Joe's, utterly incredible. They also have great Cannoli there. Other than that, I'd go with Joe's sandwiches over Marco's sandwiches. But make no mistake, we're talking about the best 2 sandwich shops in Buffalo here, hands down. I liked the 1322 original a lot which is just like a corned beef thingy. I'd say it's easily the best corned beef in Buffalo. I haven't tried the Pastrami version of it. I preferred the Muffaletta at Marco's though, bigger and better. The Frank Stallone is utterly delicious, it's this place's signature steak hoagie type thingy. The Hertel Alley is fantastic, it's got this luscious Pork Loin on it that gets my loins loining. But the star of the show, and I mean the absolute shining star like Mariah Carey's long oiled waxed shining legs onstage at a Divas concert where every other performer has not had a hit since 1956 and weighs over 370lbs... Is The Hangover. It's not a movie. OK, OK, it's a movie, but from now on, the movie does not exist nor does it matter. Whether you like that movie or not, this sandwich is paradise. It's sooooo damn good that I can't even tell you, you just need to try it. Please. Thanks. It contains, according to their menu (copy and paste): Fried capicola, provolone, sauteed onions, cherry peppers, with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and topped with a fried EGG. It also contains all of my dreams. I have no idea why they capitalize the EGG but from now on I too will capitalize EGG because I love this sandwich so much. It's so spicy, it's so wet and juicy, it's utterly delicious. And these sandwiches aren't horribly priced either, at about $8 each for the good ones, and the basic ones are a few dollars less. I have now tried their Muffaletta, excellent. I think I like the Muffaletta at Marco's (Maple) better, but this one is good too. Lovely little place to eat and people-watch... get the Al Capone from Marco's on Maple (or the one on Hertel if you must), and get the Hangover from Joe's Deli, and sit and enjoy the best 2 sandwiches in Buffalo. This was a great spot for lunch! I had the maple dr sandwich(brisket with jalapeños, cheese, coleslaw and smothered with bbq sauce that all worked really well together. The slaw complimented the jalapeño and the sauce terrifically. I don't usually order brisket as I've smoked many in my life and am a bit particular about it when ordering out. A few Co-workers and I came here for lunch on an early Thursday afternoon. The weird thing was we thought we were going to Mo's place for lunch. When we talked to the bar tender (at Mo's) she explained they did not serve food, but the deli next door did. I believe they are affiliated with one another. She was kind and got us menus and even took our order. We ordered about 11:30. We waited nearly an hour for lunch. Once it came out, it was really excellent. I was shocked at how good my sandwich was. Hands down one of the best tofu sandwich's I've ever had. I would absolutely come here again. However I would not dine in. The bread, veggies, cheese, meats and salads are always fresh and perfectly prepared. The menu is massive. They have every type of sandwich you could ever think of and lots of original ideas. My personal favorites are: 1. The Thai Chicken wrap in a lime vinaigrette and Thai peanut sauce 2. Gil's Tuna Monster (Multi grain bread with tuna salad, cheese, lettuce, tomato) 3. Create your own deli sandwich with roast beef and cheddar on multigrain The daily side salads are also very good. I'm a fan of the balsamic pasta salad and the mac n cheese bites. I'm always impressed by their daily/seasonal specials. Even though their regular menu is comprised of a wide variety of options, they are constantly thinking of new sandwiches and salads. You can call in your order ahead of time or order at the counter. Joe's Deli has about ten tables indoors and a few outdoors for patrons to enjoy their food. It's an extremely casual atmosphere.
