This is a super great family restaurant is a small business please support during these times is very difficult to operate any business let alone a restaurant they have all the Comfort favorites and a barbecue section order to go or dine in they even have breakfast items that are traditional breakfast that you are used to in a cafe they have lunch special and they also have breakfast special but they don't open that early

Very small Cantonese restaurant with a large menu. There are approx 8 small tables so I would not recommend for large group. They have everything you would expect from pineapple buns, porridge, crispy chow mein, char sui, roasted duck and more. Everything tasted good and my only complaints were that the greens were overcooked and that rice does not come with any of the entrees for dinner service. Food came out fast and service was adequate. Accepts Amex, limited parking, but there are adjacent lots.

Recently moved to Duarte and Hao Cafe is truly heaven's sent. I grew up surrounded by HK cafes so the list of ones I've been to is probably too many pages long, so when I passed by Hao Cafe tucked away in a corner in a small plaza, I was hesitant to try. "Would the Lemon Iced Tea be good?", " Are they a fake HK cafe?"...so many doubts within me to ever want to try.... Until last night, I read all the positive reviews and took my chances - I am SO glad I did because Hao Cafe is definitely a 11/10! Everyone on the reviews raved about how delicious the Beef Chow Fun & the Roasted Duck is, so those I knew I had to try - both a 11/10 - both were AMAZING! Ordered their Curry Fish Ball (8/10) and Fried Chicken Wings (10/10) - balls were chewy and wings were crispy - I LOVED IT! Same goes for their Lemon Iced Tea. Service was great! They knew every customers who walked in. The restaurant was packed and their phone was ringing off the hook with pick up orders. I will definitely be coming back very soon! Highly recommend Hao Cafe!!!!!

Hao Cafe is the reason I love Duarte so much! My family and I have been going to Hao Cafe almost every week since it opened its doors. This restaurant has truly become a weekly ritual, and a great place to bring anyone. You can't beat the quality of food or the affordable prices here. I've enjoyed lots of meals dining in, or taking out to enjoy at home, and one thing is always true - I am always so full and happy after eating here. They are a family-run cafe, and there is no doubt that everyone is a big fan of them because it's always packed out the door. I've gotten to try a variety of dishes here and they offer just about anything here that can cater to anyone's taste. They have amazing roast duck and BBQ pork to fried rice, vermicelli, porridge, soup, curry, chicken wings, sandwiches, etc...and they are all delicious. I have yet to try every dish here because there is just so much variety. As a true HK cafe, they make top-notch HK Lemon Tea and HK Style Milk Tea and Coffee. I've also enjoyed their Crushed Ice w/ Red Bean, Lychee, Logan, Grass Jelly...I just can't go wrong ordering anything here. Every friend I have brought here always love their craft drinks, big portions, hot food, and quick service. A big kudos to the chefs and servers. Yes, the cafe is a little cozy, but who doesn't love that when their service is so friendly, and you can snuggle a little closer to your family or friends. There is parking in the front on Huntington, or you can go to the back or use street parking on Bradbury. Trust me, any wait time will the worth the wait and you'll leave feeling so full, cozy, and want to plan another visit here again soon. Thank you to the wonderful staff here for taking care of my group every time I visit. I'll see you very soon, and often!

Amazing. I can only imagine that dining in would've been even better. Very clean tasting, not too oily, flavors just right. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

Lunch Special Curry Chicken...so good!

Hao Cafe is such a gem in the neighborhood of Duarte and I happen to be nearby in the area and was craving something delicious for lunch. Lo and behold, I arrived at this cafe and there was already a few groups waiting outside to get a table. The cafe is really small inside - looked like maybe about 7-10 smaller tables. But it's definitely a bustling cafe! I went to the register to place a to-go order and the lady with the glasses was very efficient and nice. I ordered their Curry Chicken Lunch Special, which came with the full-size entree and about a bowl-size of rice. Their Lunch Specials range from $12.95-$14.95 before tax. My Curry Chicken was $13.95 and with tax came to about $15 and some change. The tax rate in Duarte is one of the higher ones at about 10.5%, so add that to whatever you do plan to order here. But it was still worth it because I gotta tell ya...the Curry Chicken was just GOOD! Like REAL GOOD! Now let me say this: HK/Cantonese Curry uses a different kind of curry and is sweeter and lighter than other curries. It really has a distinct flavor that's a real home-style favorite for me. The chicken is also bite-sized, a common protein cut in Cantonese dishes. Will be returning here again when I am craving some delicious HK Style dishes!

Roast duck and rice (good)

I was visiting city of hope and was looking for a place to eat on yelp, found this little gem. They were open for breakfast so decided to stop by. They have alot of stuff on the menu, from western breakfast to Chinese food, roast duck and the price is pretty reasonable. We ordered the duck and rice plate $15, eggplant $12 i think, Hot and sour soup $9 and a whole roast duck $39. Everything was really delicious. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

We came around noon and they were packed inside a pretty small storefront. The wait time was about 15 minutes. Staff was quick in seating us, taking our order, and bringing the food out. They have a gender neutral bathroom in the back. We got the L51 Two Items with Flat Rice Noodle ($14.95), choosing their well known roasted duck and wontons. This was a good portion with lots of noodles. Duck was flavorful and tender, about 6 pieces. Then we got the L52 Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli ($14.95) which was a big portion for the price. It was savory with the curry with some shrimp and charsiu. Definitely will return for their lunch specials again! Very reasonable price for the portions.

I've been hearing about their roast duck and decided to give it a try. We came at around 3pm on a weekend and surprisingly it's super hard to find a parking. There are couple of other restaurants, and some parking are marked at 30min only. And this strip mall is very small with limited parking (plus basically no side street parking at all as you can't park on Huntington and they are in between sonic and McDonald) They were definitely not packed at this hour. We ordered the Singapore style fried rice noodle and the roast duck with rice (all from lunch menu). The rice noodle tasted authentic but very salty. Definitely the saltinest rice noodle that I ever ate in the HK style cafe. It will probably be great for people that like very strong taste. But I finish the whole cup of ice water because of this noodle. And the roast duck is alright but feel not salty enough. (Or our tastebud got mess up by the rice noodle). But definitely missing the sauce that usually pour generously on those roast duck rice. Just a side note, a LOT of servers, but none of them attentive at all. They will just talk to customer that they know. And basically give you a blank look if you are not one of those "known" one. Never asked if we need more water or refill. They simply walk by. Another thing to note, very LIMITED table. Total about 7 tables that seated 4 each. It will be tough for large group.

I went to Hao Cafe with my family because we were craving good Chinese food. The restaurant isn't very big, so coming with a big party might be a problem. Service was good since all of our food came out within 5-10 minutes. We ordered mapo tofu, green beans, orange chicken, stir fried broccoli, braised tofu, char siu pork, spam and egg stir fried noodles, and fish with black bean sauce. Everything was delicious, but my kids love their braised tofu best! Also, if you ever need party trays, they have it. A must order for parties are the chicken wings. It was a hit at the party. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. This is a hidden gem so don't forget to check it out.

I went to HAO Cafe for its new menu. I tried the braised duck with bean curd and is really good. Here is the translation: 1. 枝竹炆鴨 -- Braised Duck with Beancurd Sticks -- $18.95 2. 尖椒炒豬頸肉 -- Stir-fried Pork Neck with Chili Peppers -- $16.95 3. 付乳椒絲通菜 -- Water Spinach with Fermented Bean Curd and Shredded Chili -- $16.95 4. 四季豆伴紫茄 -- Stir-fried Green Beans with Eggplant -- $16.95 5. 椒鹽多春魚 -- Deep-fried Capelin with Salt & Pepper -- $13.95 The service is as usual good and attentive.

2026.01 Used their website to order and pay. Small parking lot with additional space on the side can be packed at lunch or busy hours. Pick up was easy. Wonton soup: a personal favorite, 8 large flavorful wontons Two item soup: duck and soy chicken, broth packaged separately, thanks Beef chow fun: popular in reviews, solid. I found it basic and wanted a little something more in the seasoning maybe, but that's what chili oil or sriracha is for. Orange peel chicken: best fresh in house bc as a fried item it doesn't travel well, but good flavor. It's probably amazing fresh. Portion sizes are good, photos show items with metal knife for size reference Small corner location, tables were packed when I went in. Possible strategy: order and park, eat in car for best experience if tables are full Happy to revisit again in the future! Support local businesses

So thankful for fellow Yelpers recommending this restaurant. Visited twice in one weekend for 2 people. Small dining area 7 or 8 4 seaters dinning tables, but I didn't mind. They get very busy. Clean utensils. Service was above average and one of the two waitresses answered all the questions I had since it was my first time there. All the dishes we ordered were on par, very enjoyable. We tried their roasted duck and BBQ pork, both meats had great flavor but the duck skin was a little chewy and pork was a little tough. Portion is average. The duck sauce was very delicious. BBQs typically available after 10am. They use quality white rice. We ordered more food to take home. Prices are slightly higher than other places. The best surprise and the reason I give it a 5 stars rating is because of the cleanliness of their restroom. I personally would not go back to a restaurant by choice if their restroom is dirty even if their food is good. I think I found a new go-to place for Cantonese style breakfast and BBQ spot.

The sauce was rich, slightly tangy, and baked perfectly into the rice. I swear I only come here just for the baked tomato rice and getting chicken was a nice surprise because I usually would get it with the pork chops. SO GOOOOOD. The braised tofu with mushrooms and broccoli was also really solid. It's comforting and really well seasoned. Brick toast was really good too. Crispy on the outside, soft and buttery inside, exactly how it should be!!! The only thing was the pear chicken soup that was a whopping $12.99 for a smalllll bowl. It tasted delicious but the price was not worth it for how small the portion size was I really love this spot so much. I need to confess something to you: I love Chinese food. However, it wasn't until the last few…read moreyears where I've come to realize the distinctions between Hong Kong cuisine and mainland Chinese cuisine. It's been an exploration. But with each new Hong Kong style restaurant I try, the more expansive my view, and belly, get. Alice's Kitchen, specifically this one in Temple City, was a refreshing look at not just the food but the vibe as well. Design - Falling into a different world Walking into Alice's Kitchen from the back parking lot is like walking into a vibrant food court back in the 1980s. Bright neon signs are placed throughout the dining room floor, faux food stalls can be seen to give more of a community feel to the inside, and I love the sprawl of different props of newspapers, t-shirts hung on clotheslines, and big advertisements on the walls like you might see in a food court. It really elevated the atmosphere of the space and I loved their branded orange plates, bowls, spoons, and chopsticks. It gave whimsy to this place. Staff - Cool The staff here are like what you expect from any Chinese restaurant. You try to flag one down or grab their attention with your wandering eyes and when they come over you can tell them what you want. They take your order and usually within 5-7 minutes you'll start to see your food heading your way. Perfect for anyone hungry and dying to eat right away. When you ask for to-go boxes at the end of the meal (you definitely will) moments after you get your food packed someone will appear with a tablet ready for you to pay right there at the table. Talk about speed. Food - Onions galore I see that in Hong Kong cuisine there is this mix match of Western and Chinese tastes put together. This fusion of ideas is what brings something like their large pineapple bun sandwiches to existence. We got the BBQ pork (char siu) pineapple bun sandwich and this came warm with a fried egg, slab of butter, generous slices of BBQ pork, and a savory sauce. For one person, this could be a good main dish to be accompanied by a side. For this split between two people, this is a savory sweet dish perfect to wet the appetite. Highly recommend getting one of these. The sweet & sour pork was nostalgic to me. Served with chunks of white onion, green peppers, and pineapple the flavor of this reminded me very much of the sweet & sour pork Chinese-Korean restaurants serve, except for the color being different and no cabbage in the sauce. It has the sweetness brought out by the pineapple but still a bit of tang and deep savoriness of the pork with each bite. The onions were undercooked and you'll see this as a pattern for all their dishes containing onions. The French style filet mignon chunks were fantastic. Juicy and flavorful, each bite makes the mouth water more and more and the texture gave such pleasant mouth feels. The fried basil accompanying it also gave a burst of freshness and herbacious flavors. Just be careful not to accidentally bite into a chunk of ginger. Unless you love ginger. Then go right ahead. The beef chow fun with black bean sauce was great. Nice balance of their black bean sauce with the textures of the chunks of beef, the onions and peppers in this add a nice crunch and difference in flavor that balances all the savoriness. The tofu with spiced salt was also incredible. When I ate this still piping hot the crisp exterior with the hot soft interior made me smile. The spiced coating was flavorful and with some rice it gives a nice balance with each bite. Final Thoughts With all the food we got for dinner, I'm sure I leaned more into the Chinese cuisine side than the Hong Kong side. However, I was happy with the quality and depth of flavors in everything I had. Alice's Kitchen has definitely been one of the better Hong Kong restaurants I've had and I'm excited to explore more of this cuisine in the future. Can't wait to come back!
