I swapped the lemon raspberry pancakes for plain buttermilk and they were incredibly fluffy and good. The thin sliced potatoes with green peppers were super flavorful. The scrambled eggs and Italian sausage were cooked perfectly. My server, Shaq, provided excellent customer service, Love the name, Shaq the man! I sat outside and absolutely loved the patio with tables. Their menu mentions lunch and dinner, but they serve an amazing breakfast from 7 AM to 2 PM that is a must try! The food is delicious and plentiful. I enjoyed the southwestern omelette, it came with potatoes and a pancake. I had my usual drink, Diet Coke! My daughter had the eggs, sausage links, hashbrowns, and toast. She also had a hot chocolate, which looked amazing. All of the food and drinks were delicious. The plates were enormous and the helpings large. Most plates are about $20 but you do get a lot of food. If you come with somebody and split a plate, the cost, of course becomes minimal. Service is excellent. They have plenty of employees on staff to help with everything you need. We came on a Saturday morning, which is a busy time, but was able to get seated and served quickly. In the way of ambience, they have a lot of license plates, freeway type signs and other signage throughout the facility. It is very neat and clean and the decor is actually very nice.! Can't believe I haven't left a review for Jake's! I've been coming here with my dad for years. I am not usually the biggest fan of bbq(a lot of bbq sauces aren't it for me)... but I LOVE Jake's, the secret is in the sauce!! It's sweet and tangy in the perfect way and ends up with a smoky flavor from when they cook it as well. I looooove the huge beef ribs here, and the chicken is pretty good too. I've also tried the baby back ribs, which my family loves but I'm more of a beef kinda gal. Haven't tried much else on the menu because I just love the beef ribs so much tbh. The fries and salad are good, some other sides kinda feel like an afterthought, but the sides aren't the highlight here. I like the "roadside" nostalgic vibe inside, and the staff are nice. Some of the staff have been there for a long time and know a lot of the customers. Overall, this is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood, and when Monrovia comes up in conversation, I always mention Jake's :) read more

We sat down then we look at the menu to see what to order everybody order on their own but my wife and I order BBQ combo it's come with a half a chicken,Tri Tip,two BBQ pork ribs,two BBQ beef ribs and two sides,we decided pick potato salad and mac n cheese to our meal. The atmosphere at Jake's Roadhouse is relaxing and a feeling see classic interior sign from the past that you can remember those doesn't exist anymore but enjoy walking to back in time. The waiter but out meal our BBQ combo meal to our table it looks scrumptious good. I cut a piece of the bbq chicken it was juicy,and tender and getting that smoke flavor in the chicken. What a wonderful meal we had at Jake's. Visiting town for a friend's birthday we were looking for a breakfast place and stumbled upon Jake's. When you enter you get that homey, locals spot feel. I fully intended to be that person who takes a high quality, perfectly lit photo of my meal before touching it, but when the food arrived, my lizard brain took over. Just eough of a kick to let you know they mean business without nuking your taste buds. The servings are generous, if you leave this place hungry, that's honestly a personal failing on your part. ​The real star of the show is the BBQ sauce. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a staff so friendly you'll think you accidentally stumbled into a family reunion where everyone actually likes each other. The mushrooms were yummy, but swimming in fluid. The rib ends are so large and meaty, they are definitely a meal for two. The BBQ sauce was tangy (quite sour and sweet). I've been coming here for years with my family. We only come for breakfast. We enjoy it which is why we return. The service is spotty. The bus boys/runners and hosts are always nice. However, the waiters are okay. There is two in particular that are not friendly and seem bothered to even take your order. This particular lady won't even look at you, it's uncomfortable. Jake's is located on Myrtle, a quaint street in a nice part of Monrovia. On this particular Sunday, the sun was setting and there were more than enough people out. I was parked about a block away from the restaurant, and it was a quick walk over. Came into an almost empty establishment where a guy was behind the makeshift host stand. To be honest, he wasn't the friendliest, but he did hand over a menu. After taking a look, I noticed no one was there so I had to wait but only for less than a minute. Another girl took over, and she was pleasant enough. Food took about 5-10 minutes and I was on my way. To be honest, this wasn't very good at all. Chicken was just okay (where I didn't even bother finishing this), the BBQ sauce was on the watery side, but the baked potato was really good. I really wanted to love this place. This restaurant is in a great location (Old Town Monrovia) and has a cozy non-pretentious vibe inside. They specialize in BBQ and Sandwiches. Also they are open for breakfast. We love their Kettle Corn available fresh at the Monrovia Farmers Market every Friday nights, so we stopped by for takeout. I ordered the Monster Ribs Plate, since they "specialize" in BBQ; and a Cobb Salad. In short, both items were not edible. The BBQ ribs tasted BITTER and TOUGH to chew; their BBQ sauce could NOT save that thing. Awful! On the other hand, the Cobb Salad was decent, but lacked the traditional addition of "tomatoes", the avocado slices were hard (not ripe). Both items ordered were again, not edible. The reviews of this restaurant are mostly positive with a Yelp 4 star average rating, so am kind of surprised that our experience with their food wasn't better. Service was fine. Now, Breakfast items are also their specialty, so perhaps I should order that next time and see how that goes. In the meantime, I will just stop by for the Kettle Corn. read more

The sauce and smoky seasoning was still decent so I would definitely give their baby back or beef ribs a try next time. The Big D's combo comes with 1/2 smoked chicken, spicy sausage link and 2 sides. I also added a dinner salad. Their smoked chicken is flawless - the softest chicken I've ever had and the BBQ sauce they put on it is excellent. The spicy sausage has a really nice kick to it - not too hot and not too mild. Their baked potato and corn on the cob are great sides. Everything comes with their famous "corn muffins" that are slightly sweet and I think they have blueberries in them - which to me is an odd accompaniment but they're delicious so it's like a little dessert haha! Prices are what you'd expect for the area. The staff were all very friendly and more than happy to help - checked up on us often. We felt very welcomed - very relaxed, casual vibes here. Location is fantastic in the heart of Old Town - so a great place to walk off all that BBQ lol. Parking is all street or in one of the public lots and free. Decided to try the Roadhouse after watching My Go To on localish..plus my sister had breakfast there a few weeks ago with some of her retired coworkers..we went for lunch and it was busy but only had to wait five minutes for a table. Seems like everyone was ordering breakfast over lunch. Was given breakfast menu and one lunch menu..we wanted to try the BBQ and the breakfast menu had no BBQ options. Our choices were the tri tip plate and pull pork plate with corn on the cob.
