Basin 141 is a bar and restaurant located in Old Town Monrovia. It has a very open layout with high ceilings, good décor, and a nice vibe. We sat at a table by the front window facing the main drag. The area definitely has an old town feel with many restaurants and shops up and down the street. There is also a park right across the street. There is plenty of parking around the corner on the street and in a nearby lot. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. We had one more round of drinks and I had the Billionaire cocktail (Old Forrester 100 proof bourbon, lemon, house made grenadine, absinthe, $16). This was excellent. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. Stopped by during a week after a nearby facial and this place was the perfect place to catch up with a friend. The service was attentive, the place played great music and the vibes were great. I can definitely see this place packed during happy hour or game time cause there's a nice bar feel. Located in the cute little heart of Downtown Monrovia, there is parking along the street or lots behind the businesses. The atmosphere in this area gives nice little walkable town. I ordered crisp pork belly tacos which was quite interesting. I never had crispy/crunchy meat in a taco before which was different haha. The flavor was good although the meat was quite chewy and hard. The chips and dips were good and the veggies and sauce on the tacos were great as well! This very cute pub and bar is located in Monrovia. If you know Monrovia, you know it's a charming town in the San Gabriel Valley. I went with a friend, and it was pretty packed. We only waited about 10 minutes to be seated. The hostess and servers were attentive, friendly, and very welcoming. I really loved the vibe. There's a full bar with high-top tables, regular tables, and booths, plus TVs showing sports games. The Dodgers were playing, so that was definitely a plus. We decided to order appetizers and share a few items. First, we had the K-Town Wings. The Korean sticky wings were absolutely delicious messy in the best way and full of flavor. We also ordered the garlic fries, cooked well done, which made them extra crispy, almost like light potato chips. They were delicious as well. The last dish we shared was the Chicken Pesto Flatbread, which was topped with fresh arugula. I really liked it. It was light and crispy, and the peppery arugula gave it a great texture and fresh flavor. For my cocktail, I had The Sinclair, a fun take on a Paloma made with mezcal, pineapple, lime, and grapefruit juice with an orange twist on top. It was incredibly refreshing and perfectly balanced. The menu has a great mix of dishes and variety of excellent appetizers to select from. I had the French Onion soup with braised short rib as my appetizer...sooooo good. This is a must have. This spot has some happy hour deals and had some live sports games playing when I was there, though the food here is alright. -Crisp Pork Belly Taco: Pork belly had okay flavor. -Carnitas Taco: Carnitas meat tasted okay. I wasn't a fan of the tortilla on this or the carnitas taco. My cousin and I decided to meet up for dinner here and we happen to know the chef. It was chill on a Tuesday night. We ordered drinks first and then decided on the chicken tacos, shrimp pasta, grilled cheese with tomato soup, chicken wings, and pretzel. The chicken wings are lightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with the right amount of heat. The pretzel was super soft and paired well with the cheese dip. The grilled cheese went well dipped in the tomato soup. I actually finished it which I did not think I would. My mom mentioned the tacos were spicy for her because of the salsa. We came here for Valentine's Day and overall had a really nice experience. The atmosphere was so cute and cozy, the lights made from mason jars were adorable and something I've never seen before. It definitely gave the place a warm, unique vibe that made the night feel special. My partner ordered the chicken sandwich and I had the fish taco plate. The food was good overall, but I personally didn't love the salsa that came with the chips. It tasted more on the sour side and didn't really have that classic salsa flavor I was expecting. It wasn't bad, just different. The only downside was that it took quite a while for us to get our order taken, which was a little unfortunate. The staff was very accommodating in making sure the action was visible on a couple of their many large TV screens. It was a Monday afternoon so there was lots of open seating. Fries were very average - almost kinda stale. The fish taco was ok. It had the right flavor but it's missing portion size and condiments. Tortilla chips were stale and salsa tasted like it came from a jar. Steak was cooked well and I enjoyed the chimichurri sauce. Only good dish. The service was below average. The server taking the order took our orders one by one but she awkwardly stood at the end of the table where it's hard to hear here from the end. I do love that they have some vegetarian options as well (sofrito options available for a few dishes). On my most recent visit I ordered the garlic bread grilled cheese with consisted of cheddar and havarti, I had the option to add avocado for $3 and/or short rib at $4.75.. I added just avocado. The grilled cheese comes with tomato soup bisque with a nice roasty taste to it. I really enjoyed that my grilled cheese wasnt overly oily and that it was toasted perfectly. A cool place to grab a drink in downtown Monrovia. We came here on the 4th of July and were happy to be seated right away at one of their communal high top tables. Despite the crowd our server took great care of us. I was a fan of the large beer selection and they came out nice and cold. I was also a fan of the Pub Pretzel. It's absolutely gigantic and I'd recommend splitting it with more than 2 people. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Pork Belly Banh Mi but that's probably on me for ordering that here. The filling was on the minimal side and the bread seemed dried out throughout vs having that soft inside that a traditional banh mi has. I literally drive an hour just to come here for their sausage platter. This is truly the best sausage platter I have ever had in my life. The monster sized garlic pretzel dipped in the decadent hot cheese dip is absolutely splendid. The dish comes with real mustard sauce like with real mustard seeds. Then there's a delicious sauerkraut and three superbly delicious sausages. Two people can eat this comfortably. The garlic fries with the garlic ranch is also a must have here.
