Basin 141 is a bar and restaurant located in Old Town Monrovia. It has a very open layout with high ceilings, good décor, and a nice vibe. We sat at a table by the front window facing the main drag. The area definitely has an old town feel with many restaurants and shops up and down the street. There is also a park right across the street. There is plenty of parking around the corner on the street and in a nearby lot. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. We had one more round of drinks and I had the Billionaire cocktail (Old Forrester 100 proof bourbon, lemon, house made grenadine, absinthe, $16). This was excellent. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. They have a very good sized cocktail and food menu, as well as many beers on tap. They also have happy hour specials. We would definitely return if we were in the area again. read more

Stopped by during a week after a nearby facial and this place was the perfect place to catch up with a friend. The service was attentive, the place played great music and the vibes were great. I can definitely see this place packed during happy hour or game time cause there's a nice bar feel. Located in the cute little heart of Downtown Monrovia, there is parking along the street or lots behind the businesses. The atmosphere in this area gives nice little walkable town. I ordered crisp pork belly tacos which was quite interesting. I never had crispy/crunchy meat in a taco before which was different haha. The flavor was good although the meat was quite chewy and hard. The chips and dips were good and the veggies and sauce on the tacos were great as well! This very cute pub and bar is located in Monrovia. If you know Monrovia, you know it's a charming town in the San Gabriel Valley. I went with a friend, and it was pretty packed. We only waited about 10 minutes to be seated. The hostess and servers were attentive, friendly, and very welcoming. I really loved the vibe. There's a full bar with high-top tables, regular tables, and booths, plus TVs showing sports games. The Dodgers were playing, so that was definitely a plus. We decided to order appetizers and share a few items. First, we had the K-Town Wings. The Korean sticky wings were absolutely delicious messy in the best way and full of flavor. We also ordered the garlic fries, cooked well done, which made them extra crispy, almost like light potato chips. They were delicious as well. The last dish we shared was the Chicken Pesto Flatbread, which was topped with fresh arugula. I really liked it. It was light and crispy, and the peppery arugula gave it a great texture and fresh flavor. For my cocktail, I had The Sinclair, a fun take on a Paloma made with mezcal, pineapple, lime, and grapefruit juice with an orange twist on top. It was incredibly refreshing and perfectly balanced. My cousin and I decided to meet up for dinner here and we happen to know the chef. It was chill on a Tuesday night. We ordered drinks first and then decided on the chicken tacos, shrimp pasta, grilled cheese with tomato soup, chicken wings, and pretzel. The chicken wings are lightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with the right amount of heat. The pretzel was super soft and paired well with the cheese dip. The grilled cheese went well dipped in the tomato soup. I actually finished it which I did not think I would. My mom mentioned the tacos were spicy for her because of the salsa. We came here for Valentine's Day and overall had a really nice experience. The atmosphere was so cute and cozy, the lights made from mason jars were adorable and something I've never seen before. It definitely gave the place a warm, unique vibe that made the night feel special. My partner ordered the chicken sandwich and I had the fish taco plate. The food was good overall, but I personally didn't love the salsa that came with the chips. It tasted more on the sour side and didn't really have that classic salsa flavor I was expecting. It wasn't bad, just different. The only downside was that it took quite a while for us to get our order taken, which was a little unfortunate. This is our first time at basin 141. We showed up just in time to take advantage of the last hour of happy hour. Everything we ordered was fresh and hot and tasted great. I love this place. Great chill gastropub with a decent variety of food options to choose from. Tacos, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and even wrap. I do love that they have some vegetarian options as well (sofrito options available for a few dishes). On my most recent visit I ordered the garlic bread grilled cheese with consisted of cheddar and havarti, I had the option to add avocado for $3 and/or short rib at $4.75.. I added just avocado. The grilled cheese comes with tomato soup bisque with a nice roasty taste to it. I really enjoyed that my grilled cheese wasnt overly oily and that it was toasted perfectly. Found out really quickly this establishment cares more about the money than their customers. Used to enjoy their brunch until they packed an incomplete to-go order for us. We told them a component was missing from my item and they said welp brunch time is over so we tossed everything lol. Bummer because we chose this brunch spot over the others, and an hour passed dealing with this back and forth, our food is cold and they still refused to refund because "the food is already made so we can't refund it" even though they served it incomplete. When they finally agreed to refund after an hour they asked for the cold food back from our car that we've touched while it was raining and pouring outside lol Most places let you keep the food and refund you for the inconvenience and for their mishap especially if it's just 1 item. This place has managers/owners that are just greedy and provided awful customer service. Their manager guy is also very rude and impatient speaking with us, not an apology, not a fix. For the appetizer, we had the K Town wings. The wings themselves were super crispy on the outside while still tender and juicy inside. The sauces were unique and interesting. A little sweeter than I personally prefer, but the spice balanced it out nicely and kept me going back for more. I ordered the Black Angus Bassin Burger, and that was my favorite part. If I could give zero stars I would. We eat out 1-2 times a week and though we haven't been back here in 3-4 months, we've come several times before. Food was always good but today the service was HORRIBLE! I often give leeway if an establishment is super busy but on a Wednesday at 5:30pm it was not packed. We were walked to a bar height eating area where we sat, and sat, and sat for about 13-15 minutes without even an acknowledgment from anyone. No water, no "hi", like we were invisible, though 3-4 servers walked right by us. We dress well on "date nights" and we were shocked at this horrific lack of service. A cool place to grab a drink in downtown Monrovia. We came here on the 4th of July and were happy to be seated right away at one of their communal high top tables. Despite the crowd our server took great care of us. I was a fan of the large beer selection and they came out nice and cold. I was also a fan of the Pub Pretzel. It's absolutely gigantic and I'd recommend splitting it with more than 2 people. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Pork Belly Banh Mi but that's probably on me for ordering that here. The filling was on the minimal side and the bread seemed dried out throughout vs having that soft inside that a traditional banh mi has.
