The basics: food: 2/5 service: 2/5 ambiance: 3.5/5 Details here: We were only there for around 30-40 minutes because the service was so quick. I did not prefer this because it was a late dinner and special date and I had the expectation of enjoying the space. From the outside, you can see the lights, the tvs, and a lot of conversation so it felt we could have time to eat and talk. We were dressed nicely (I was wearing a full length black dress) so we had the expectation that we would be sitting for a while, which was not the case. They sent out our starters and our meal around the same time (within 10 minutes since I took pictures of our short date night), which I don't like because of the temperatures of what we ordered were going to be off since some had to sit. The servers were different (about 2-3) and came the "most" during when we put the starters to the side (which I guess communicated we were done but again, sent out pretty much at the same time). The ambiance has the highest rating because it was loud and social and they stuck to the definition. The food was goodish at first but did not agree with me after. I ordered the Shrimp Pasta Blanco and the noodles were cold. I can only assume that the pasta was cooked before and they thought the sauce would get it to be the same temp, it wasn't and I didn't finish it for that reason. I took it to go to warm it up at my families house in Pasadena and the smell from the bag from the 15 minute drive...I threw it away. It smelled sick and it made me feel worse because I started asking, "Did I eat that?". Also ordered was the pork belly banh hi which my love liked, truffle mac n cheese, and the garlic fries. The garlic fries were bomb! I'm not shy with garlic and it was so flavorful. I liked the truffle mac n cheese as well and could taste the truffle, consistency was good too. My personal rating here is because of the rush of service which didn't help the contrasting temperature of the overall food (again noodles were cold to begin with in a warmed sauce). If I had lowered my experience to a "quick bite to eat", I may have felt differently but it was a date night. The ambiance is what drew us in but it didn't align on our night unfortunately. I've come here twice. Each time the quality of everything is up to par. Very delicious drinks and very good food. Service is great but my order should come a little faster. Between three people our tab was 134$ Pretty pricy considering all we had was alcohol and an appetizer. Families were at the booths, parents with their teenagers after a baseball game. Singles at the bar watching football games. The room had good balance I would say. We came after a round of golf to watch the dodgers beat the Mets and we had a blast. We happened to arrive on a Sunday afternoon for an early dinner and were pleasantly surprised to discover we'd made it just in time for Happy Hour! Our culinary journey began with the Mini burger, which my son absolutely devoured. It was truly delicious and disappeared from his plate in record time. The wings we ordered packed a perfect kick that satisfied our craving for something with a bit of heat. The taco selection was impressive, and we sampled quite a variety: potato, sofritas, pork belly, and chicken. While each had its own unique appeal, the potato taco emerged as my personal favorite, with flavors that were both comforting and exciting. I ate the potato taco so fast I forgot to take a photo. I do wish they gave a side of salsa with each taco. Only one of them came with salsa. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Black Angus Basin burger. I can confidently say it ranks among the best burgers I've ever tasted. The manchego cheese and caramelized onions created a flavor combination that was simply outstanding. We paired it with the parmesan fries, which proved to be a delicious accompaniment. For drinks, their beer selection offered plenty of options, and we settled on a refreshing Hazy IPA that complemented our meal perfectly. Beyond just the food, we loved the overall vibe of Basin Bar. The service stood out as particularly noteworthy - every server we encountered was attentive, friendly, and hospitable. Came here for happy hour and I'm so glad I did! They have a small dog friendly patio at the front of the restaurant and the servers were very kind! I ordered a few small bites as they were priced pretty affordably. I enjoyed the garlic Parmesan fries as they were super heavy on the garlic. The ktown wings were also good and had a spice that built up as you ate more. I loved my michelada too! We came here to get a light snack/meal and we were impressed. We got their Happy Hour: Garlic Parmesan Fries, K-Town Wings, Shaved Street Corn. The Parmesan fries were great as none of them tasted hard or too salty. The one that was interesting was the k-town wings! They weren't spicy but the taste was quite addicting. The spice does creep up on you as you eat more wings. The corn with the squeezed lime just tasted very smoky. The staff was very friendly and came to check up on us a good amount of times; we were sitting in their outdoor patio bc we had our dog. My in-laws love going here and are the ones who introduced me to Basin so this is one of our go-to spots for dinner or happy hour if we want to meet up last minute. It's a fun little spot in downtown Monrovia that actually has a solid happy hour menu and some delish food items with a sporty/modern industrial ambiance. My in-laws always ask for the server Travis and anytime we've went while he was there - the experience is always a 100/10. We've only went a few times while he wasn't there and honestly it's only the best when he's there! The times he wasn't there, the service was incredibly slow even if it wasn't super busy. The first time I came here, I thought it would be overpriced mid food but to my surprise, they have some amazing delicious entrees and even items on their happy hour menu are better than I expected. My go to has been the Picken's Chicken sandwich which is a grilled chicken sandwich on grilled sourdough with a grilled Anaheim pepper, cheese, aioli, grilled onions, arugula, and comes with either fries or a house salad. I 10000000% recommend getting the salad! My husband loves the Black Angus Basin Burger as it's juicy, flavorful, and served on a perfect bun. My in-laws love getting the fish and chips from here! During happy hour, the mini basin burger w/ fries is a must but trust me when I say opt for sweet potato fries. They are some of the best sweet potato fries i've had and beats their normal fries! Another go-to is their onion rings - delish! Surprisingly, their happy hour tacos aren't bad at all.. As someone who's a connoisseur for authentic street tacos, they aren't authentic by any means but the shredded chicken taco and carnitas taco do pack a lot of flavor and are a good size. The place completely filled up by the time we left and the space rang out with lively conversation. I do like the hanging lights and the design of the bar. Stopped by on Sunday and ordered the Buffalo wings and the pan seared potstickers off their Sunday football menu. The wings were cooked perfectly , the potstickers were tasty. I came here on a Saturday around 1 pm after looking at menu online. We were given the brunch menu and I selected the biscuits and gravy. The consistency of the gravy was off...it tasted like Mexican salsa. It was not southern style gravy. If the restaurant is going to infuse the gravy they should make that known on the menu. I ordered the Angeleno Eggs Benny and while it looked beautiful it was an odd combination of flavors. Basin 141 we have been coming here for the past 7 years as regular customers, you can ask anyone that works here they know us. We drive from Beaumont California to come here at least once or even twice a week. Everyone is typically friendly great personalities courteous makes us feel like we're wanted and that they're glad we're here. We've met the owners if it's still the same the last couple of times , had a horrible experience with the manager no class no personality not friendly at all even gave my wife a sarcastic answer when she requested something on her burger. This is not against basin at all basin the food drinks. Everyone else is amazing, but please talk to your manager. I believe his name was Mike. For context, I tried getting a table at Sena and none of the staff acknowledged me or tried to assist with seating a potential customer. Because of that, I walked across the street to Basin 141 and I am so glad I did! The food and drinks are delicious. The highlights for me were the fries, carnitas taco, and the Moscow mule- everything tasted fresh and well made. My only small complaint would be the pork belly taco. The meat on that taco was very stiff and a bit hard to eat. All in all, if you are contemplating where to eat in Old Town Monrovia, I highly recommend Basin 141. The restaurant is off Myrtle. You can find street parking or various nearby lots. I came looking for a spot for St. Patrick's Day. Other places were too crowded. This place was awesome! We even caught bagpipers playing while we were there. They had a St Patrick's Day menu and tried the irish taco and corned beef sandwhich. All so delicious. For drinks had to get the green beer and tried the irish car bomb. It wasn't on the menu but we wanted a snakebite and was told it could be made. Loved everything from the meal. I came here during happy hour on a weekend. I ordered a carnitas taco and shredded chicken taco which arrived within 5 minutes. The shredded chicken taco was delicious. I was expecting the chicken to be dry since it was shredded, but the meat was most and soft. The texture combination with the crunchiness of the veggies was perfect. The carnitas was more of a birria style with pineapple. The sauce was a little bit strong for my taste but still good. The meat was tender and went well with the pineapple and veggies. Great customer service! - Signature Tacos 1 Crisp Pork Belly Taco: the corn salsa had big chunks of corn (maybe a little too big for this taco). The Crispy Pork Belly could have been a little bigger in size. Wanted to be able to taste more Pork Belly than corn. Loved the grilled yellow pepper. Comes with Chipotle Aioli. 1 Braised Short Rib Taco: tender and juicy, lots of short rib and queso fresco on top. Upgrade to sweet potato fries.
