I had a lovely experience at Marko's Breakfast & Dinner (Duarte). I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak ($21.50). It includes beef milanesa that's fried and topped with homemade country gravy, two eggs of any style, hash browns, and choice of toast. TASTY!! I couldn't stop smiling as I devoured this fresh, flavorful meal. It's one of the BEST Chicken Fried Steaks that I've tasted in a long time. I arrived at Marko's Breakfast & Dinner (Duarte) on Wednesday (around 9:57AM). Parking is simple and convenient. There's a private parking lot. Staff (name is Marcos) is very professional and hardworking. Marcos moved purposefully and efficiently. Marcos also politely answered all my questions. My food arrived in 18 minutes and 43 seconds. As mentioned, I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak ($21.50). It's A LOT of food. The ingredients tasted very fresh, and the portions are plentiful. The Chicken Fried Steak carried a perfect crisp, airy texture; its meat came juicy and well-seasoned. The country gravy is also creamy & light. The meal also had scrambled eggs, hash browns, and sourdough toast, and it all tasted very clean and fresh. It's AMAZING! I happily feasted. On ambiance, Marko's Breakfast & Dinner (Duarte) is gorgeous. The location's theme of home and family is presented perfectly. The outside patio is shaded and airy, and it all sparkles. I especially enjoyed the soft instrumental music and TV scenes of nature. The location is very clean and comfortable. There's a genuine charm to its decor. Overall, I found unexpected magic at Marko's Breakfast & Dinner (Duarte). The lovely ambiance, exemplary staff, and quality food are genuine products of passion and perseverance. So disappointed in my breakfast experience at Marko's. I was looking forward to a yummy breakfast on a Saturday morning, so as usual, I did some Yelp research and came across this place. I read through some reviews, and everything pointed to it being a solid option. I ordered coffee and a breakfast plate that included eggs, sausage, and hash browns. To start, the coffee looked odd. It was gray in color and had a slight film on the surface. Still, I gave it a few sips, and it tasted terrible. After asking for a fresh cup, the taste was still off, and there were particles floating on top. I couldn't take more than two sips. For the price ($4.50), it is wildly overpriced and plain nasty. Speaking of price, I don't mind paying for an overpriced meal, especially if it's going to be a satisfying experience. However, Marko's menu is all overpriced and missed the mark on the food as well. The breakfast sausage was the worst I've ever had--overly oily with a strange texture. Literally any other restaurant has a better breakfast sausage. I also ordered my eggs over medium, but only one egg was actually over medium (a more minor issue, but it added to the overall bad breakfast experience). The hash browns were good, along with the English muffin, although the jelly provided was extremely watery and strange. The service was polite and nice, but I was very surprised that by the time they brought the check, they still charged me for the coffee. It was clear that I didn't drink it and had complained about it. Any understanding business would have immediately comped it. Side note: the customer across from me left about 85% of her meal untouched. She probably had similar issues with the taste or quality. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I do hope this can be a learning opportunity for the business. read more

OK, let's start with. I absolutely love breakfast! It's my favorite meal of the day. If you notice the majority of my reviews are breakfast places. Marko came out to greet us and welcome us to his restaurant. That was a very nice touch and greatly appreciated. We were seated quickly with menus in our hands. The water and coffee came quickly. The coffee was probably the best coffee I have had at breakfast in years. I typically feel offended by what I have to pay for coffee and the quality that I'm served. That wasn't the case here. Their coffee is very good. It's $4.50 which is on the higher side, but at least it's good coffee. Both meals were very good and large portions. Sorry I didn't get more pictures, but I was hungry! The breakfast burrito was done very well and a good size. I ended up only eating half of it for breakfast and just finished the other half for lunch. That's a good size burrito. The omelette was a good size, and the hashbrowns were plenteous. The omelette was cooked well. Just a tip! The seating is hardwood chairs so they begin to get uncomfortable after about an hour. No don't give me wrong, the tables and chairs are nice. They are just hard and after an hour begin to get uncomfortable. This will be my breakfast joint for the next few weeks to check the consistency. So far it's excellent.! read more

We were dining outside overlooking the beautiful green San Gabriel Mountains although it's a hot day. Still it was pleasant enough and no lunch crowd. The server was super friendly and helpful. The chorizo con huevo was better than most in the area and the burrito is quite a mouthful. The combination of the scenery and the food made me relax. We recently discovered the Temple City location and had such a great experience, we decided to check out the Duarte spot, especially since it has an outdoor patio where we could bring our pup. We came by for brunch on a Saturday and were seated right away. I ordered the café de olla and the huevos rancheros with tomato sauce, it absolutely hit the spot! My husband went with the chicken green chile verde, and both dishes came with warm, fresh flour tortillas. So good! We loved the green chile verde sauce so much that we asked about it and were able to buy a fresh cup to take home. GREAT spot!! Our first time here was in June, shortly after they opened. It's October now and we've returned several times and each time is better than the last. The breakfast is a hit! We ordered the Chicken Alfredo, Chicken Marsala, Chicken Piccata, BBQ Ribs, and Barbacoa--all of which were flavorful and perfectly prepared. We basically had a 3-course meal with a salad to share, a ribeye, a pasta with shrimp in vodka sauce, and chocolate cake. All of the food was SO good! The salad was off to a strong start and set the bar high. I ordered the pasta, and it was so yum. I tried a piece of my boyfriend's ribeye, and it was very tender and flavorful. He said that the mashed potatoes that he has ever had at a restaurant. The chocolate cake was very delicious and RICH. So, halfway through, we asked if they have milk, and they did! A tall glass of cold milk and rich chocolate cake - chef's kiss! They are a small, family restaurant with few staff, but we met the owner and chef when we first sat down, and he seemed very friendly and passionate about his trade. We ended up at Marko's by accident for Father's Day Brunch. We had grown tired of waiting for a table at different nearby place. We called Markos and went straight over when they said they had a table for four. The minute we walked in the unpretentious but charming decor and the friendly staff greeting was so welcoming. Our food (waffle platter, California omelette, huevos a la Mexicana) and drinks (especially the cafe de olla) were all delicious! The only issue was the extremely slow service for both our drink and food orders. We were getting pretty hunger but weren't in a hurry so the long waits were more mystifying than annoying. Did one of the cooks call in sick? Did they run out of eggs and have to go to the store? Even after tables were no long packed with Father's Day diners, the pace didn't pick up. There seemed to be enough servers and all were very friendly. However, there didn't seem to be a clear and efficient definition of duties between them. Perhaps our order and requests got lost between them? Even so, I was happy when I saw a flyer on the window announcing that another Marko's will be opening in Monrovia. We'll definitely go again! Oh, one more thing - compared to the menu prices at many similar brunch spots farther west (Pasadena, Eagle Rock and Highland Park) Marko's El Monte prices are very reasonable. read more

Our go to is the chilaquiles (red or green are both good) with added steak or the Steak and eggs . We also get pancakes, cafe de olla, hash browns , eggs , and biscuits-- which are always delicious. The patio is really pretty and has a nice view , there are heaters and fans , they always check on you and give refills which is nice. We love going here for dates . The fries and onion rings were so crispy! My wife thought the Carbonara was good and said it was made in a different way than she was use to. I really wanted this place to be good. We need a good new restaurant in the neighborhood. Sadly, it was a disappointing first try. The Location had ample parking. The eating area was improved from when it was a Mediterranean restaurant. It's clean and spacious. TV screens were available to watch local teams. Staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, they missed where it mattered most: the food. We had no expectations. We didn't even know they served Italian food. We ordered chicken wings for appetizer, a pasta dish, and a chicken dish for the mains. I'm pretty sure they used bottled sauces for the wings; which was no big deal. However, the wings were dry/ overcooked. Fettuccine Alfredo was good but small serving for what they charged: additional $8 for shrimp. Mediterranean chicken sate came with chicken breasts that were extremely dry. I'm not sure exactly what the sauce was on top. We live in the neighborhood so we will give it another try. We stopped by here on our way back home to Las Vegas from Burbank and the food was yummy! It's right off the freeway too so that a plus for travelers! The outdoor seating is beautiful I loved it. The service there was so great!
