This is an interesting place. It's not necessarily hidden away since it's on the corner of a major intersection, but you can easily overlook it or not realize this place exists. The plaza it's in isn't impressive, and it has no flashy sign. It's next to a laundry place and a 7-11. The food we had was good. The Cuban sandwich is different from the typical pressed panini. It's made with sourdough bread. It's not overpowering in any particular flavor, and most importantly, it's not greasy. Adding extra Dijon mustard makes a big difference. Replacing fries with house-made potatoes adds a nice variation. It was missing sliced pickles. The flavor was good and melted cheese paired well. The smoked bagel would be better with sliced red onions and capers, which were absent. Otherwise, it was good. The bagel wasn't overly dense. The service was quick and friendly. read more

I really love this place and I've ordered from here several times, which is why I'm honestly frustrated with the lack of consistency. One of the main reasons I love ordering this particular dish is because of the Mediterranean salad that normally comes with it. Today, instead of the salad, it came with zucchini, and the zucchini was so hard I could barely even bite into it. Another time, the sides were different as well. Even the flavor of the food seems to change from one order to another. Today I also placed my order ahead of time, drove about 10 minutes to pick it up, and still had to wait another 10 minutes once I arrived, only to receive a meal that wasn't what I was expecting. I genuinely like this restaurant, and the owner is always lovely, so I really hope they can work on consistency--both with the ingredients/sides and the flavor. I really wanted to like this place, gave it a few tries but today was the last chance. The first 2 visits were great. We sat indoors and water was served right away, the server was very friendly, outgoing and respectful. She was happy to answer questions. Today we were served by Rebecca R. She seemed so unhappy, bothered and annoyed to serve. I asked for the same breakfast we had ordered my daughter before and she was confused and annoyed and replied with "oh that's not on our menu anymore" which wad then followed up by "we don't have a kids menu" My family ordered waffles they arrived very burnt and hard. She had an excuse that their batter was too thick so they must cook them longer. The toast I ordered was ok, they needed a little bit of salt. The salad was good. The steak my husband order was not the full steak he has received in previous visits. We were not once checked on, no water was refilled, she forgot my husband's drink which was a cucumber lemonade. The ambiance needs some TLC, it feels dusty and the seats/booths need to be wiped down properly. The restroom decor the same, needs some dusting and deep cleaning. Before I go into the bad, of which there is plenty, let me preface this by saying that despite a wave of 1 star reviews the place was packed on a Tuesday at 10 am. So do with that as you will. Locals must think this is good food. Located in a tiny corner strip mall on a desolate street is this little breakfast/brunch place. I wish I had listened to the 1 star reviews and not gone in. I especially wish I had seen that Yelp had their health listing rated at C before I ordered. Isn't it the law that a restaurant must display their health rating in the window, cause it wasn't displayed anywhere to be seen. So first they brought out a large jug of water with some fruit slices and mint in it. Would've been nice if the water wasn't room temperature. Is the ice machine not working? Then came the best part of the entire meal - my hazelnut latte. The coffee was good and the cup is gigantic. My teen had the french toast, eggs (scrambled), and bacon plate. The one slice of french toast was okay but nothing special. The eggs were bland and lacking any seasoning including salt and pepper. The bacon, of which I got a side for myself, too, was absolutely disgusting. At first I thought the bacon had been cooked possibly on a dirty grill in old grease or right after something else had been cooked, as it had a horrendous aftertaste like rotten meat and sweaty gym socks. They made a new plate but this one was raw, despite being ordered well done and crispy. Raw. And it absolutely stunk. That was when I came to think it might be uncured pork belly like you get a Korean KBBQ and not bacon at all. Luckily they cancelled the order. I also got a side of the breakfast (rosemary) potatoes, which I also ordered crispy and well done but arrived as a scoop of mush. They tasted okay but I saw crispy potatoes at numerous other tables. Don't know why they couldn't cook as ordered. I also had the dutch baby. I'm sorry but this is a dessert bread pudding and not a real dutch baby pancake. The inside should be airy and fluffy, not sopping wet. I'm not sure if the inside was undercooked and possibly raw dough or if they make it with some sweetened cream inside. It was not good, and it was way too sweet. Instant diabetes sweet. I will never go back. I strongly recommend that all people stay as far away as possible. The service was good - friendly and attentive, but what good is that when the food is so awful? I also had severe stabbing pains in my stomach for a couple hours after getting home. 5 stars for the service, we got to sit down quickly at prime time Saturday morning and good generous size of coffee. I've been here multiple times. Disappointed at this time when my boy ordered Egg and Steak, the steak wasn't fresh but also smelly. I just didn't want to deal with it, we didn't complain. FYI, I don't recommend the steak here. Pulled pork egg Benedict is good, it's been our favorites. Ice coffee is more watery down (don't recommend) but the latte is the BEST. The ambiance is too compact for the capacity. My family and I of 8 came on Saturday at 11AM. Although it was a bit of a wait (perhaps around 30-40 minutes), the food made it worth it. It was my first time having chilaquiles and it was so good 10/10 I would order it again. I also got a brown sugar latte and that was very delicious as well with the right amount of sweetness for me. I also got their cookie butter French toast which was good but too sweet for me I couldn't eat much but it's great for those who have a sweet tooth. The servers were sweet and very quick. This is a very cute restaurant for breakfast/brunch! We came to try it on a Wednesday lunch. We ordered steak and eggs, the steak was not good, very rough. I wish they charge more but give a better quality steak. But the way they flavored the steak was very good!! Then we ordered the smoked salmon benny, very delicious! Loved everything about this dish! The food here was delicious! I ordered a simple breakfast plate with a side of pancakes and orange juice. Even though it was a basic order it was super filling. The orange juice tasted fresh, everything was well-seasoned, and the pancakes were especially good. Service was overall good. I wasn't checked on as often as some of the larger tables, but since I was dining alone and it was a busy morning, I completely understand. The wait time was a bit longer than I expected, but again, it was pretty packed so I'm taking that into consideration. Prices felt fair for the quality and portions, which I definitely appreciated. Not so great stuff, open pitchers of water with fruit on each table, seems they do not put fresh water out for each guest. Yuck! Our server was curt, no name tag, so no name. She seemed bothered when I changed my order, because they were out of bacon, for the bacon & eggs. My guest ordered French toast, that included rosemary potatoes. The server started to argue, potatoes were not included. We had to show her on the menu. "ON YEAH, THEY CHANGED THE MENU" because I changed my order, my friends order was delivered a full 15 minutes before mine. He was just about finished when my food arrived. Wow. $5.20 for iced tea with no refills. With your breakfast, they serve about 1oz. Of maple syrup. If you ask for more, they eventually bring another 1oz. After it was pointed out on the menu, about the potatoes, the party sitting next to us, did not get their potatoes, either....? Be aware, there is a cash price and a credit card price. This added just over $2 to the bill. A smart business would just add this as a included cost for doing business. Most consumers get it, a small business needs to make a profit to stay in business. Absorb the cost in the pricing. We love to support small, family business...but this restaurant needs to pay attention, and start with a friendly staff, and pay attention to your guests. read more

Sage serves such yummy breakfast and food in general! I normally don't like chorizo but it tasted so good in this breakfast burrito. That green sauce they have is to die for!! Also I think they make their tortilla chips fresh in house, it tastes so fresh and tasty. The pulled pork benedict is so flavorful. The pork is very tender and juicy. The potatoes are also so well cooked. We didn't order any drinks but when I looked over at other tables, the cups and mugs looked huge! Will probably try some next time. Met up with my sister here since it was close to her. We both had never been here in the past or heard of this place. When I arrived there was no parking and tons of signs everywhere in this lot and the neighboring lot, stating no parking for Sage Social. Read the reviews again and saw that everyone usually parks on the street. We parked on the street and walked down to the entrance. Parking was a hassle and it sucks because the business next door has tons of parking and no customers. Once inside it's small but cute. I could tell they were going for a garden vibe with the artificial plants hanging from the ceiling. I had the orange juice and the chilaquiles. Both were very good and tasty. Service was fine, but towards the end they forgot about us and didn't refill our waters. Overall it was a cute experience, but the parking is not ideal here and would deter me from visiting unless I found parking in the first 7 minutes. read more

I recently visited Sage for the first time and was really looking forward to trying it. The space itself is very cute and has a nice, welcoming vibe, which made me excited to dine there. Unfortunately, my experience with the food didn't quite match that first impression. I ordered the steak and eggs (medium rare, over-easy eggs, and fruit instead of potatoes). When my plate arrived, the food was cold, and the fruit was placed right next to the steak. Because the steak was medium rare, the juices--along with some of the blood--ended up soaking into the fruit, which made it very unappetizing. I sent the plate back to be warmed up, but when it returned, the eggs were fully cooked instead of over easy, and the steak was closer to medium-well. The steak itself also lacked seasoning, and there wasn't any salt available on the table to adjust it. I understand that off days can happen, and maybe this was just one of them, but I was definitely disappointed since I had been looking forward to the experience. I would suggest separating fruit from hot proteins--especially when serving steaks that are rare or medium rare, where the juices and blood can easily soak into the fruit. Hoping this was just an isolated experience, as the place itself has a lot of potential. read more

I came here for lunch last week. I was in a meeting in Irwindale and realized I was only 8 minutes away. I've had this place bookmarked on Yelp for a while so decided to pop in before heading home. I arrived around 12:30pm. Originally I thought there were plenty of parking, but when I pulled up I started noticing all the signage and how they're only reserved for certain businesses. Well with that, I left circled around and came back. Then I ended up at the business next door and also noticed the signs, but finally found a spot. I should have read the reviews about the parking situation first as some people mentioned they've gotten or witnessed people getting towed. That's already a giant negative. When I entered the restaurant, I noticed the interior decor which was really nice. It wasn't very busy and about 3 tables sat. I waited a while at the front before someone mentioned I could sit anywhere I wanted. I'm guessing they may have been short staffed as I waited 10+ minutes before someone took my order. I ordered a hot vanilla latte, a side salad, and their Dutch Baby (Dutch pancake). My latte came out pretty fast as did my salad, which was delicious. On the menu, it tells you to allow 15 minutes for preparation. The pitcher of water also had fruit inside which was nice. The Dutch Baby was just okay and I don't think I would order it again. The service improved from there. My total with tip came out to $35.75. Would I return? If I was in the area and there was parking then yes, I would love to try some other items. But if I were in a rush then probably not. read more

Let me start with the coffee and hazelnut latte, amazing. We were seated quickly, which was nice, but then it took about 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Servers kept walking past our table without checking in and honestly looked kind of lost or wandering around aimlessly. Luckily they keep water pitchers on the tables already filled, which now makes perfect sense considering how long it takes to get service. Smart move on their part. I ordered the avocado toast with a side of bacon, and my husband ordered the chorizo skillet. The coffees and my food came out quickly, but his never did. Instead, we watched an older server walk around the restaurant with his skillet and bacon, stopping at multiple tables asking if it belonged to them. Twice she set it down at other tables before being told it wasn't theirs. The third time, she finally brought it to us. That seems like it should be a health issue, what if someone else had stuck their fingers in it not knowing. By then, my husband didn't even want it anymore because it had already been sitting in front of other people. To their credit, they remade it, but then we waited another 15 minutes for his food while I had already finished eating. We actually watched another couple sitting next to us get so frustrated because their order was completely forgotten. After waiting forever with no food and barely any acknowledgment, they eventually just got up and left. The inside is always crowded so I've always sat on the patio. Our server was nice enough to rush us to get our order in before a large party that was there. I came here hoping for a nice brunch experience, but it ended up being pretty underwhelming. To start, they only had room-temperature fruit-infused water available, which just wasn't my preference. I asked for a cup of ice water instead, but they brought me a cup filled with only ice and no water. It wasn't a huge issue, but it was a strange experience and meant I didn't have anything to drink with my meal. I was really looking forward to trying the horchata latte, but unfortunately it wasn't available. I ended up ordering the iced brown sugar latte instead. It arrived with only a few ice cubes, which melted almost immediately, leaving me with a lukewarm drink instead of an iced latte. As for the food, it was just okay. The chilaquiles were definitely the highlight of the meal--they were flavorful, rich, and the best thing we ordered. The rosemary potatoes, however, were disappointing. They were soggy while somehow still being slightly undercooked and hard in the middle, so the texture was off. Overall, the brunch wasn't terrible, but it didn't live up to my expectations. Walking in, there were a few open tables and it took a few minutes for the girl at the front to seat us. Our server was extremely but really did not speak that much English, but it just seems like there is a lack of urgency from her and communication or for that matter the people that work there. Ordered cafe de olla, which was good but it wasn't hot, it was warm. The server brought us a second one and it was STILL not hot after telling her. Ordered chicken and waffles. Big mistake. Waffles tasted like Eggos waffles and the chicken tasted like nuggets. Not to mention that the food came all at separate times and it took about 1 30mins to get all our food to the table. Luckily the kids meals came out first. plates left on other tables for more then 15 mins. Again, our server was very kind but I don't know if I'd be willing to give this place a third chance. Fantastic brunch spot with delicious food, great drinks, and affordable options! If you're also looking for a place with aesthetic good and good portions this is also the place to go! I definitely recommend. I got the classic egg benny and it was so good and filling! Plus the potatoes on the side were the best I have ever had. Flavored so well and perfectly cook (not dry or mushy). I also got the horchata latte which was good and only $5 for a large bottle. The only lackluster thing was the dutch baby. It's very pretty looking and freshly made (takes 25 mins to make from ordering) but tasted kind of flavorless. The inside is kind of small, but definitely still a vibe.
