After a long time, I'm not being able to get a table. We decided to make a reservation and enjoy a dinner Friday night downtown. They sat us down promptly, and the service was incredible... Let me say that again. SERVICE WAS INCREDIBLE Immediately upon arriving, they dropped warm, salsa and warm chips and water, we ordered margaritas at the table and we all enjoyed. For dinner, my wife and I split the ranch and reef fajitas combo. It was beef, chicken, and shrimp that were wrapped in bacon. The homemade tortillas were a total treat. Overall, I was extremely impressed given the fact that they are relatively new, but they hired local legend Chris, who owned a restaurant in town to kinda help along and facilitate the servers and overall customer service. Everything was fantastic BUT my only gripe is the drinks. I have zero problem paying top dollar for a drink, but I ordered your Cadillac and you pour it in a small bucket with one big ice cube and I could hardly taste the alcohol.. I thought to myself maybe a visit busy night and there was just a bad poor, so I ordered another one. Same thing. Ambience... Very good. Song choices need to be a little bit better too. Have been unsuccessful with getting a reservation. Learned from the reviews that reservations are recommended though website makes no mention..... no worries. Sent email and was told no availability for the evening and time I wanted. Understood will try again.... Tried a few days later with my new day and time. Sent email at 10:00 am and received response to email my phone shortly after opening. Sent my phone and checked periodically over the next few hours and received no response. Since I was hoping to go the same evening I finally sent email to ignore May email since I received no responses and made other plans elsewhere. I think I will have to wait months before i try for a third time....!!!! Hopefully by then the restaurant will incorporate an online reservation system like Broken Yolk that will be easy for everyone since the current system is not working and staff may be overwhelmed with being new. I wish Mama Canela the best! Maybe they will incorporate take out if seating remains an issue. Gave 3 stars because I am neutral at this point and want to see what happens... read more

As an Austin, Texas girl who now calls Glendora home thanks to a career in the film industry, I'm always craving Tex-Mex that reminds me of home. Finding it isn't easy, so having this spot open just walking distance down the street has me in absolute heaven! The food and cocktails are delicious, and I'm so happy to have this addition to our neighborhood. I also hope people will extend a little grace to a small restaurant finding its rhythm. Clearly communicated seating limits help a business with limited tables welcome more guests and keep things running. While everyone is entitled to share their experience, the one-star reviews over that policy alone feels disproportionate. This is the kind of local spot I'm excited to support and want to see thrive. After our meal we took a stroll in the village and walked by Mama Canela restaurant it was buzzing.!!! Beautiful restaurant out door seating, every employee were moving.! They have a full bar menu. We took a look at the plates as we were walking by and they had full entree plates not tapas plate or taco stands like Ramon's! Your guacamole is large and looked delicious. I am so disappointed that I didn't suggest going here instead of Ramon's across the street. I learned a big lesson last night. " say something " people cannot read my mind. The decor inside is beautiful, patio tables with fans on the tables to keep flies away. The food looked amazing! Big basket of chips and a small salsa is adequate for most patrons. Tex Mex Mama Canela in Glendora was such a great find! We had the picadillo plate with rice and beans, the wedge salad, and a side of fresh flour tortillas. But those flour tortillas absolutely stole the show! Fresh, soft, and the perfect "utensil" for scooping up every bite of picadillo. SO good! Service: Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and personable. He gave great suggestions. Food: We Loved the chips and salsa, such a great unique flavor. Our dishes were very tasty, actually the best tex Mex we have had in a long time and we travel to Texas very frequently. The overall decor of the restaurant was spot on! We felt like we were in San Antonio. I do think it's important to give a new establishment some time to find its rhythm before judging too quickly. Service is None existent!! We drove from a Claremont to support this new business and prove little Miss Lauren of Glendora of 25 years wrong but she's NOT wrong!! Came with my family this evening and got the worst inept service. It's the worst service I've had in years. Very disappointing!! Your patio waitress took a solid 17 minutes to get to our table, you weren't near full or super busy she just made a conscious decision to not come to our table with hungry children. I watched her go to every table and even get another round of drinks before coming over. Anyone with any experience be it in service or management knows you get your guest with children tended to quickly so parents can enjoy their meal. We had to take our food to go And left us to pack up our own food while rushing out hungry kids. My drink was flavorless but it's because I'm sure it sat. I very rarely if ever leave bad reviews but this one was well earned. (Update) I was contacted by the owner and he graciously apologized for our experience. I really appreciate his efforts, he didn't have to and allot don't. He said he was refunding our entire bill and asked if we'd come back. How can I stay mad at that?!! I'll wait a minute an lick my wounds and give it a try in the future so long as that particular worker isn't in sight. That's a toxic employee for a new business. As with many of the reviews here, I too was eager to try the new restaurant Mama Canela in downtown Glendora. After all the work remodeling the space formerly occupied by the once venerable Village Kitchen Shop, I wanted to see the finished product. The remodel was successful, it is quite pleasing to the eye inside, and the addition of bar style seating at the windows was a brilliant idea. The bar is well stocked and everything inside Mama's is just plain top notch. We came for lunch on a Friday and there were empty tables inside and out. The greeter was a little young and awkward but we got an outside table in just a few minutes. The Wife ordered a watermelon margarita, I went with a traditional margarita; both were excellent and I would happily have had another if we were dining for dinner. I can tell you Mama didn't cheap out on umbrella's, in fact the neighbors could take a gander at how well we were shaded from the noontime sun and at the same time well protected from falling debris and bird-bombs. Throughout our lunch we were never abandoned, with at least three or likely four different people checking in on us. Our server Kristy was professional and fun, providing a good experience for our meal. The chips were fresh, and SHOCKINGLY, well seasoned. I hate that some establishments fail to season/salt their food at the proper time. Chips for example should be seasoned immediately after being extracted from the cooking vessel. This allows the salt to caramelize and adhere to the chips. A+ for tasty chips and for a very nicely made salsa; not too spicy, right down the middle between too chunky or too liquid - just right. For food I ordered the El Tradicional (Special Plate, IYKYK) of Taco, Enchilada, Rice, and Beans, with the Wife ordering the Chicken Fajita Tacos (two tacos). The Fajita Tacos came with a soupy stew like bowl which, while not on the menu, was spectacular and of an in itself makes a return visit worthwhile. All of the tacos were --stuffed-- with meat and hand rolled to perfection. The tortillas were clearly hand made and tasted like it (great). Everything on both plates was delicious and, in true Tex-Mex tradition simply full of flavor. The Missus filled up on one taco and I, a hearty eater for sure couldn't eat anymore after a Taco and half an Enchilada. Still felt full five hours later. TLDR; We will definitely return, perhaps for a dinner next time and with high hopes for another delightful meal. Nit-Picks; - my refried beans had several under-cooked beans, something went askew there. They were tasty, but the chalky under cooked hard beans detracted. - one can tell there is still some awkwardness, this is shown in the staff is not yet a smooth, well-oiled machine. As we walked around the corner you could smell the wonderful aroma from the food walking towards the restaurant. Once we got our table and had our lunch I told my friend im glad I selected Mama Canela for lunch. The Food was delicious. The Service was great. Was everything prefect, I'd have to say it was pretty darn close. I get it, its a new place. They were extremely busy but the staff was very attentive and welcoming to all the guest. My friend and I ordered beef fajitas which came when others in my party got their food...but we had to flag our waitress to ask about our tortillas. Granted the tortillas are made on premise. We also noticed the couple across from us also had to wait for theirs. We had to actually ask... Fajitas are generally eaten sizzling hot. Our beef was overcooked, the onions were wilty/ mushy soft and by the time we got our house-made flour tortillas, the meat was cold. We noticed the receipt said "beef -medium" though we were never given an option on the cook on our beef. They served. We were splitting the check. She told us our total was $168... which sounded like too much, so I questioned her, she quickly read over the order and said it was correct. We asked for a menu and added up fajitas, tacos, a wedge salad and a coke, which came up to $89 before tax. We called her back and she ran and huddled with the owner and 4 other staff... we finally got it squared away. All in all, nice atmosphere but food and wait staff was...eh... Thursday 9/10/26 615pm I arrived and the hostess asked if I had a reservation, I replied no, I didn't know seating was by reservation because I didn't see it on the website. So I said okay then I asked about the wait she said at least an hour. Voice inflection was discouraging, my response was no worries I won't be back. I mean what I said. My company has been in the village for 26 years, seen these types come and go. Reply to Response: interesting you begin with "you say". My statement was accurate. The pattern in the responses are the business is not responsible for how they operate, the customers are generally at fault or it cannot control the front of the house capacity. Started with chips and salsa and a cucumber margarita. The margarita was excellent and the homemade chips were good too. The salsa is served warm, not my preference that's ok it's true to texmex and it was tasty! Also order the shrimp brochette. Shrimp stuffed with jalapeno and cheese wrapped in bacon served fajita style served with a garlic butter. Seriously I think the best shrimp I have ever had. My guest ordered the chicken quesadilla. It was really good as well. The Guac was good, not complaining but I grew up in an avocado town in San Diego so I am biased on guacamole. The tortillas are made fresh to order and they are awesome! OK, technically it's Tex Mex, but I'm still giving them props for not disappointing. We didn't order cocktails (it was lunchtime), but have tasted their watermelon margarita and loved it. Our combo plate was a lot of food so we got to taste several specialties. The standout winner was their shrimp. I'm a Glendora native and have seen businesses come and go on the avenue for 25+ years. Tonight I finally tried this restaurant after months of eagerly waiting its grand opening. My experience: the service was mediocre and the staff has yet to truly connect with Glendorans. Not only is the staff ill-equipped to connect with locals, we were approached several times about their "90 minute dining cap." This is my hometown- I've lived here my entire life and suddenly I'm told I cannot continue to dine with my family (3 separate times) My credibility: I've worked at a family-owned restaurant on the avenue, and I learned firsthand that customer service and hospitality should be at the forefront if you truly value customer loyalty, respect, and most importantly, to give them a reason to feel welcomed so that they can return again and again as the avenue condones. The ambiance and the food: it's beautiful inside and the food was fabulous. Big deal. I can find delicious food and beauty elsewhere though. The down fall and why I will not return nor recommend going here to my friends or family. We waited approximately 30-40mins for a table understanding it's a Friday evening dinner rush. Let's say we were seated about 6:40pm. We order drinks, took longer than usual (30 mins) but our waitress came over apologized and all good. We then order an appetizer. Then we order dinner, ate, still enjoying our drinks then about 8:50pm a gentleman comes to our table and says do you mind if I move you outside to a table I have a reservation for this table. We kinda looked at each other, I think in shock and my friend says just bring us the bill, we'll leave. A young man brings our bill (close to $300), while this same gentleman hovered our table it felt. Our waitress was even shocked that we had our bill and we were leaving. Come to find out this was the owner that asked to move us. My friend let him know as he held the door open for us to leave that he was rude and we would not come back again. He proceeded to tell us that he offered to move us and there's no other way to say it. My response is yes there is other ways, one is to not say it at all. He said he'd buy us a round of drinks at the bar and to please come back again to make it right. That technically they have 90min limits. this needs to be posted, mentioned something when you're seated. We in so many words overstayed our welcome We hung out outside down aways for about 15 minutes this is including or back & forth with the owner. When we walked past there was no one sitting at our table, vacant. I understand food service, they need to turn their tables for profit and especially a new establishment. But with etiquette or lack of etiquette from the owner they might set themselves up for failure. I believe there was a better way he could have put asking to move our table and it wouldn't have been so off putting. Hopefully with his new manager he mentioned he was bringing this will improve. You had two tables open four tops two that overlooked the window and a two top sitting against the wall. when we got there we were told there was a waiting list and we'd have to wait 20 minutes before we could be seated. There was no line so we went back outside after 20 minutes. We were text and we came the waitress. The waitresses were very nice. The hostess leaves a lot to be desired. She's not very friendly matter of fact she seems like she's miserable. The food was very good. The service was excellent as far as the waitress and the decor was lovely, but hopefully you can do something about your hostess. She really leaves a lot to be desired. if it wasn't for the fact that we wanted to try your place we would've definitely left after all. This is a village. I can't believe how many people showed up when this place isn't even officially open yet! The fajitas were incredible, and you could literally see and smell them throughout the entire restaurant because everyone was so excited to try them. Every meal comes with chips and hot salsa, and we added the queso, which was absolutely delicious. The watermelon margaritas definitely pack a punch! We had such a great experience at Mama Canela! Everything was absolutely delicious, but the fresh-made tortillas are seriously to die for! You can definitely taste the difference when they're made fresh. The fajitas were so flavorful and delicious, and the margaritas were SO good! We tried this place out on Tuesday night absolutely amazing food I had the shrimp tacos. The corn tortillas are freshly made right there at the restaurant.
