Street Asada Taco with creamy guacamole
    Kara S.

Local spot we go to every once in a while. Love that we can sit down and enjoy some chips and salsa while we wait for our food. I usually get the compuesta (sp?) with shredded beef. This time I got a side of chile relleno and street tacos. The meat in the taco was seasoned well. Will definitely get it again. I topped it with the creamy guacamole- yum! The hubs got a quesadilla and he enjoyed it. Service is always great and I love the homey atmosphere.

Friends love this place, very thin carne asada and yet they were delicious. I got the de la olla beans, and their salsa is delicious. Service - you order and they bring the food out to you. Ambiance is chill, semi loud with so many people but overall it's great!

La Tolteca is a classic in this area. The fresh ground corn products are amazing. We've gotten prepared masa to make tamales and it came out moist. The fresh fried chips taste like corn and salsa are delicious and a great addition to a party since you can get pint, quart, etc. I've never dined here, always gotten take away. But parking is easy with a large free lot.

We pass this place all the time and finally decided to stop in. It's a solid spot and is what you would expect from Mexican-American cuisine. The staff was friendly and helpful. This is an 'order at the counter' setup where they bring the food to your table. The space itself is open and clean, making it a great choice for a large group or just a casual meetup. Definitely worth a visit!

1/2/2026 3pm Placed order at the counter for 2 enchilada plate and combo plate. Received our cups, chips and salsa with a side of chunky guacamole Service is friendly and easy. 3:30 received our order and tried all the things. Chile verde was good on flavor and texture. Cheese enchilada good. Taquito and taco, nice crispy set up, good portion, shredded beef is on the dry side but you can cover that in sauce if you want. I will stick to other items I enjoy more. My top are still pork tamale and cheese enchilada. Place was packed and is definitively a community institution with 70 years of history. Happy New Year!

As a regular here, the quality is pretty consistent. I ordered the beef enchilada plate with red sauce and it didn't disappoint. I was extra satisfied because my chips tasted fresh and crunchy. Sometimes the chips taste a bit dated which is a bummer. I would recommend this dish because the beef is always tender and flavorful. The rice and beans hit the spot too!

The food was delicious I had a taco and an enchilada plate. There is a bar, a large restaurant area, and seating is also outside. The ladies behind the counter were very nice. Their margaritas were a great added treat. Stop by and try some authentic Mexican food.

We were here in 2022 and had a great meal. This time surprised by having to wait in line to order. Being Saturday night it was pretty packed. We were kept entertained while waiting in line by the booth of small children seated away from their parents who kept moving between the two tables and a few near misses with staff delivering food. My daughter liked her carnita plate and I enjoyed my chili relleno. Not sure if this is repeatable next we are in town.

GREAT FOOD. Authentic Mexican. Service was fantastic. Portions are HUGE. Definitely recommend. This location has been here so so long they must be doing

I ordered the burrito with special hot sauce and cheese, jalapeño wet style. The style was a bit different than what I'm used to, but the flavors were still solid. I do wish the lettuce had been thicker for more crunch, and the steak cut into more cube-sized, chewy pieces rather than strip-like and flaky. Everything complemented each other well, and the service was exceptional--friendly, fast, and attentive. That said, it felt like it was missing a little something in terms of overall taste. It might be because I tried a new style this time, so next time I'll probably stick to a more traditional burrito without the wet variation.

We love the food and experience. I am giving a low star as the water has a funny taste and I think it's because they need to change filters. The water tastes awful. Please look at the filters and clean them. Thank you.

I was not happy with this place, they didn't have much authentic Mexican flavors in this place. No choice of Mexican chocolate nor cafe de la olla drinks. We ordered chili rellenos and green chiliquilies which were not spicy. The chiliquilies had a cracked egg shell accidentally but I was not impressed with the flavors, they gave me half cash for the food instead of a full refund like all other restaurants. I was a bit disappointed in that. Also the chili relleno was not great as well, it chili tasted like it came from a can. I would not return nor recommend this place.

Ordered a wet carne asada burrito with red sauce and it was good. It was a lot of beans , carne and cheese. We paid $1 for the chips. If you purchase the plate, chips are included. Service and ambiance were nice. Kids friendly. You order your food first and pay before seated. I will come back to try other dishes!

This kind of Mexican restaurant is right up my alley. Great food, stiff drinks, excellent service, and lively atmosphere. Oh, and plenty of chips and salsa!! I had the two tacos combination platter (one beef, one chicken) w/ a skinny jalapeño margarita. Along w/ guacamole to accompany the chips and salsa for the table - this meal was incredible. I could've walked out and gotten hit by a bus and would've been happy that this was my last meal. We were seated upstairs and it was a little more intimate and cozy w/ low ceilings (look out tall people!). Service was so on point, we never had to rubberneck once, the servers were always present without being overbearing. Not sure if there is dedicated parking for the restaurant, but there was plenty of street parking during Sunday afternoon. I think I found my new favorite Mexican spot in the Covina/Azusa area!!

The evening we went the restaurant was 80% full. The staff greeted us when we walked in. I believe one of the gentleman might have been the owner himself. He was super welcoming . The restaurant has great decor all over the restaurant and a lively atmosphere. The staff that helped us were all attentive and personable. We were given chips and salsa shortly after seating. I love the locations that offer fresh crispy chips. I ended up ordering one of Desebrada Shredded Beef Burrito (wet) and they told me I could do the half red and green sauce. I also ordered one of the Chicken Dorado (crunchy taco). My wife ordered a taco combo plate and Jalapeño Vodkarita. The portions were generous and abundant. My burrito was hefty! I enjoyed every bite of that wet burrito. Saucy and full of deliciousness. The affordable pricing is great because of the amount of food. The taco was fine, but I'd got with a burrito again since you can take the rest home. My wife enjoyed her food and drink. We had never been here in all these years. Max's Mexican Cuisine will be on our list again when are craving some Mexican food. ( ^_^)b

Service: 5 out of 5 their employees are very pleasant and professional. They gladly answer all your foodie ingredient questions. They are more than accommodating. You will see, they are genuinely nice. As far as the ambience goes, for certain a stro g 4 out of 5. Nothing can be more comforting than to sit back and relax here. They have hi tables woth stools, as well as the hybrid style booth/table combo. Fans are always circulating and it is definitely not too stuffy. They do have music playing in the background, but it is not too loud like many places do. We have been back to try new and different dishes....all have been very tasty. A smaller and cozy place to have a nice meal. I can tell they cater to the local college students and offer a student discount. ***Hidden Bonus: their café de la olla is DELICIOUS! You can twll they make it fresh regularly and do not let it sit. It is by far waaaaay nicer than what they serve anywhere in the area. We would drive to get a nice cup in Monrovia, but this café de la olla beats it hands down. It is NOT bitter, nor is it over sweetened! So.etimes we swing by for a To-good cup. We recommend this place for everything: nice food served with a friendly smile.
