Worth. It. So good! I usually order carne asada because that's the most basic meat but if you know how to cook, it's the best. And they know. THEY KNOW. My husband ordered the carnitas which are always a hit and miss because they can easily be dry and hard but this was quite the opposite! I wish I ordered the carnitas actually! So melt in your mouth! The chips were so good. I don't know about the salsa though. I wish it had a kick to it. The service was good as around. Everyone was helpful. You order your food and then sit down. I live in Indio and would have no problem going here to get the chips and salasa Togo. Food is solid. I get taquitos and I love the creamy guacamole. Beans are always some of the best I've ever had Customer service is top notch. Everyone was very friendly and seems happy. I definitely recommend checking this place out. Like all things everyone has an opinion on what the best of everything is. For the value this is on my Mt Rushmore of favorite Mexican places. Hello Tolteca I normally don't write messages like this, but I've been a loyal customer for over 30 years and wanted to share my recent experience. My wife and I walked in at 8:00 PM, and the young lady at the register told us there would be a 45-minute wait for food. I said that was fine. My then she mentioned it might be an hour or longer. The way it came across felt as though we were being discouraged from ordering. If the kitchen was unable to accept more orders, I feel it would've been clearer and more respectful to customers to simply post a "Closed" sign rather than making it seem like we shouldn't stay. It was very disappointing, as I had been looking forward to dinner there, and it left me not wanting to return. After birding at the Santa Fe Dam on a Wednesday afternoon, we made our way to Azusa on the LA Metro. We wandered around town until we spotted the sign for La Tolteca. I had searched for lunch on Yelp and I didn't see the place listed (maybe I just missed it). With no idea what to expect, we went in. To our delight, a counter to order food, a full bar, and plenty of room to sit. We both had margaritas. Excellent. I ordered the wet carne asada burrito. My wife had the chili rellanos and crispy taco. We both enjoyed the food very much. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere pleasant and so we agreed to return sometime. I love La Tolteca! Best restaurant in Azusa been coming here for years. I don't understand why there's so many negative reviews the parking lot is always full and so is the restaurant. The restaurant is huge so there wasn't any wait. You order at the counter and you can order your drinks at the bar. The strawberry blended margarita was sooooo good. But if you want a stronger drink get it on the rocks. The lime margarita on the rocks was BOOZY. Great value great taste. Happy hour prices are $9. Enchiladas is soooooo good. If you like nachos this place is perfect. There is indoor seating and some outdoor patio seating. Restaurant is clean and service is good. Very nice staff there is a wait but it's reasonable for how busy it is. I like how the owner is boots on the ground talking with customers and developing community. My family and I have been coming here for well over 40 years. We no longer live nearby but that doesn't stop us from making the drive to get the food we enjoy. We love their beef tacos, taquitos, cheese enchiladas, carne asada and their chips and salsa. My only regret is that they do not allow you to reserve an area for a large group. I've been eating at this restaurant since I was a kid. Don't be dismayed by the line at the door. Sometimes it's out the door, that should be your sign that the food is good. I've never left a review for this restaurant, but I really felt I needed to today. They were extremely busy, busier than I think I've ever experienced in a long time. I drove all the way from the Inland Empire, being a previous resident of the area, it's always worth making the drive. With all that being said, Carlos made up for the extreme wait. The wait for our food was extended quite a bit, but he made sure that we had plenty of chips and salsa and as soon as our food was ready, got it to us. Horrid customer service. Particularly the attitude of Amelia, not sure if she is an assistant manager or not. I was not going to stick around any longer than I had to. Here is what happened: I called in a phone order for a tostada with no meat a taco and chips w/cheese. We order from there often and I always order my tostada with no meat. The food is ok nothing great just average, being that it's close it makes it convenient. But today will be the last day I ever order here again. When I picked up my order I realized I was charged a bit too much, and when I looked at the receipt it said "Chicken Compuesta" which is a tostada with chicken (Not what I ordered). So when I let one of the cashiers know that the order was wrong he said they would change it "this time" since I must have ordered wrong. Which I know I did not since I have ordered the same tostada forever, plus I didn't even know they had a tostada called "chicken compuesta". And how in the world does no meat mean chicken??? But when I asked him if I could get my refund for the difference in cost he said he wasn't sure he would ask. "Wait, what" - you would think that was a no brainer and it would be automatic. Well here is where it gets better-Amelia comes over and says they will give me the difference, but that I must have ordered wrong "again blaming the customer" instead of taking responsibility. She hands me a dollar and change and I immediately knew that was wrong. And I asked her how much the items were cause it seemed short and she said well since you got the chicken tostada instead of the chicken compuesta... again with the damn chicken at this point I'm pissed and she is laughing with a snotty smirk saying, "you don't have to get upset I'm trying to help you". Helping me would have been easily giving me the right order and the difference in my refund without the attitude and blaming me for ordering wrong. So I told her it was obvious they don't listen. Not sure if Amelia doesn't understand what customer service means, or that she doesn't like her job and having to deal with customers. If that's the case she needs to find a job where she doesn't have to deal with people and actually be nice. Like I said never going there again. My partner and I want to open a restaurant here in LA and we are looking for branches for the dough and tortillas ... I called la tolteca store one of the employees gave us information and was super friendly .. I ask to communicate with the manager to my (partner) answered and asked if he could speak Spanish because he only (speaks Spanish) he in a rude way said no and asked don't you speak English? Or look for someone who speaks English I think he said his name Jorge! I think it's not a correct way for a manager to respond that way ... we are in Los Angeles where everyone or almost everyone understands the language .. it's not so much not speaking the language is the rude way of saying things like that to a person or client! read more

It's been a few years since we've been back. This time coming back without the recollection of our past visit, so this review is without bias. The place was busy on a Saturday night which is a good sign. I was hoping to try the carnitas, but they were sold out of that by 7pm. So, we decided on the carne asada instead and ordered a Chile relleno and chicken tamale and pork tamale. Carne asada was flavorful, but a bit on the dry side. Chile relleno was good but just too in ratio - egg batter to the small chile. The chicken tamale barely had any chicken but the masa was good. Pork tamale had a sweet masa ( personally do not prefer the sweet for pork) and the meat was pressed instead of shredded if that makes sense. I'd pass on getting the tamale on our next visit. Guacamole is the best and so are the chips. Staff is helpful when ordering and the ones bringing out the food are helpful and courteous as well. read more

Ok so I went in January 18,2026 @3:00pm So went with my parents who grew up in Azusa ca we always stop by at this restaurant when in the area cause now we live in Victorville so we came to eat and all of us waited to receive our food and literally each one of us received our food all at different times not one of us ate our food together as a family then one of our Burritos came looking dry and old as if they gave us something that was sitting for a while talked to management and he fixed it ver nice man respectful. Then when all of our family was done eating my son had ordered a carne asada plate so I asked 3x to multiple waiters where my order was not once did they come back to tell me what had happened. So I got up to ask the cashier what was taking so long and she told me that it would be not much longer so I waited a few more minutes then I see all of the cooks watching the football game all into the game and not making any food so I go to the register to ask about my food again at this point I was upset but still was trying to be calm I go to the register and tell the girl that the cooks would regather watch the game instead of trying to figure out what happened to my sons order she got rude and tells me to go sit down and to wait til the manager comes out first of all everyone of my family members all done with our meal and still nothing for my son another cashiers walks up and laughs at me and tells me not to be rude and to sit down til her manager comes out I turn around and I see the manager he asked what had happened again so I tell him what happened and I tell him everything and he goes to look up my sons order to find out that they lost his order ( due to watching the football game ) so he tells me that he was would refund me my sons order that he ordered at 3:00 pm and had not received it still at 4:00 pm so he did a refund and it turns out the refund was sent to the wrong order so he gave a unknown customer a refund so when I had to go back up to tell him that the refund was the wrong credit card he looked it up again found the right one and refunded my sons card. (Fixed it) but after all that we ended up having to take my sons food home packed up and took us 1 hour to get home so he could eat his dinner. It was an awful experience. Manager was very nice attended to us but I hope something is done with the cashiers cause that's not how you treat your customers who paid for their orders. Very rude and disrespectful. Also the waiters who say they are going to see what happened to the customers orders and never get a response to let the customer s know what was happening just not good customer service. First the wait that people have to wait for the food and the customer service not good. read more
