    Carne asada dinner
    Daphnne C.

Quick to be sat and given chips and salsa. Quick to take our order, and food was quick to be delivered but that's all the positives I can think of. $23 for carne asada platter with 3 tortillas. Eh! $10 for a SMALL bowl of (what tasted like store bought) guacamole. After our food was brought out, our waiter basically disappeared. We all agreed that the food, chips etc was just ok. Nothing for the kiddos (no crayons or fun menu). This used to be a staple of our family decades ago. It's definitely gone down hill. I won't return.

Shredded beef taco and chile relleno combo plate

Been wanting to try this place for a while since it is busy most of the time. I asked the waiter which of 2 dishes he recommended as it was my first time. Shredded beef taco and Chile relleno plate is what was recommended. I was hoping for a great experience but it just didn't happen. The chips were greasy and neither of the 2 salsas or chips had salt. The spicy salsa did have some decent heat but both were too tomatoey and lacking flavor. The plate was much smaller than I expected but it was packed to the rim of the plate. The refried beans were really good but that was about it. The rice was fluffy and okay. The shredded beef taco was big and crispy but the meat was lacking flavor. The Chile relleno was the biggest disappointment. Lots of batter and it appeared that they included a piece of American Cheese in the battered portion along with some kind of white cheese inside the chile. The sauce used over the Chile relleno seemed like pure tomato sauce again with no salt. The service was good and the ambiance is good for get togethers and the bar was well stocked. Feels like more of a place to go for drinks and social gatherings. Glad I at least gave it a shot.

Ked in today for dinner, the parking lot 8s pretty small and there is not much room to park. We walked in to a few folks waiting and we're not seated right away. The bar area seems pretty busy and like there is high chatter in the area. We waited maybe 10-15 Minutes to be seated. There is also an outdoor patio area. I am surprised we waited so long when there were seated, I noticed more than 6 booths open. Once seated we got drinks, chips, salsa right away. Once orders were in our salads and soups Came out quickly. The salsa is good, but needs salt. Good chips too! The abodigas and tortilla soup is good. Salad is good too, they have good ranch!! Coffee presentation is good, and it comes with the cutest cream! I ordered a Skinny Margarita. It's taking a really long time to come out, I think they forgot.... Our food came.out pretty fast. They plates are really good sized! All the food is good but a little under slated. Which is ok. I can add that! Ordered my drink again, skinny margarita, it's ok. Feels like it has good amount of tequila. The food was very fast paced They definitely get you in and out quickly. It was good. I'll return.

I have been coming here my whole life. I can't believe I have not reviewed it. This is gringo Mexican food (and I am a gringo). 40 years ago it was an adventure but now it's comfort food. All the food needs lots of salsa for flavor. The good news is that they give you two of them: one mild and one spicier. The stand-out at the restaurant is the chips: they cut and fry them in-house with regular corn tortillas not the thin chip tortillas everyone else uses. They really are exceptional and with the two types of salsa, for me, it is always the best part of the meal. Great service. Almost all of the seating is booths, which I love! Old school, Mexican place with practically no windows in it. Again, Mexican comfort food...

Worst nachos ever. No seasoning on chicken. Blan as fuxk. Nachos thrown together by a 2 years old. No fresh lettuce,, tomatoes, onions. Just some Fred sauce. Blan chicken, a lump of cheese. Throw some sour cream and guacamole And I ask for jalapeño on side but the sure a shit load of tahni on top. Gross

Casa Del Rey has good food. Very good Carne Asada in particular. We also enjoy their Margaritas. Great service.

First time here for a Taco Tuesday. Disappointed no happy hour, drink or taco specials. The staff and service were amazing but the food was ehhh. Ordered one beef and one chicken taco and they looked great but no flavor and not much meat. Chips are delicious. Sadly, I don't think I'd be back.

Been coming here for years. We got the chicken flatas dinner plate and the carnitas dinner plate both come with salad or soup we choose the salads. Everything was really greasy way more than normal. Beans were really off from what they use to be. Both salads were old and browning all over. We drive from chino hills to come this is going to be the last time. Something must have changed.... Management... ownership etc. if it was just one thing I would think it maybe was an off night but everything we ordered was not to the normal standards.

Visiting from out of town this place hits the mark with portion size, food quality, service and margaritas.

Outstanding food I live in Washington state and on my trip to California. That's one of the first places I stopped to eat great food.

But what happened next was unbelievable. While I was on the phone explaining that I did place the order and had proof, the chef actually said, "Well, anyone could call and say they placed an order." The audacity. Instead of listening, instead of checking, instead of even pretending to care, I was basically accused of making the whole thing up. And here's the kicker: after all that attitude, all that dismissiveness, all that unnecessary back‑and‑forth, the order ticket suddenly appeared. Miraculously. I still picked up the tamales because it was Christmas and I didn't have time for more chaos, but the damage was done. The situation could have been handled with basic respect and professionalism. Instead, it was handled with suspicion and rudeness. We never went back and honestly, that says everything.

Not terribly inventive Mexican given what's out there in DTLA or even OC but kudos for attempts at menu expansion! I do think the guacamole is really good, the mezcal offerings are awesome, the decor is upscale and Happy Hour pricing is worthwhile. I find this restaurant very loud however. Because of that, I booked outside seating on OpenTable for Cinco de Mayo for drinks at 6:30 for 4 of us. We arrived at 6:25. We were notified that they were running behind, but still were not seated at 7... we were told there was no outdoor seatings coming up in the near future but they could honor our reservation shortly at an indoor table... but unfortunately it was club-decibel live music for the holiday so we went elsewhere. I do feel that managing holiday crowds and reservations is a reasonable expectation for a restaurant of this caliber/ price point. Recommend as a local option only but with a few caveats, not my top choice.
