We had a fantastic Cinco de Mayo and Taco Tuesday afternoon. Took my wife and a friend there. She had street tacos, and a carnitas taco which comes with guacamole. She loved them. She said the flavoring on the carnitas with the guacamole was delicious and she is from the outskirts of Guajajara (she knows tacos). I had 6 street tacos with pollo asado (chicken); flavorful and the right amount of onions and cilantro. My friend had 4 carnitas tacos and 2 street tacos. He raved about the taste of the carnitas with the guacamole. The beers were cold. They do not have draft beer, but that was not a big deal. We had lime and a little salt. Perfect paring for the tacos. The place is a little small, but turnover is quick. They have an older crowd of 55+ from about 4 until 6, after that it starts to become a younger crowd. The ambiance is decent, but the service is great. Cindy was our waitress (server). She was very busy but took care of us. She is friendly with a great disposition. Ask for her or sit in her section, her warmth and attention to deal with make you want to come back. She told us she is usually only there at lunchtime, so you might want to swing by then, if you want her great service. Prices for food and drink were reasonable. I recommend trying this place. This review has been long over due by like 6 years. There's something wonderful about this place where it reminds you of walking into someone's cozy home but not. Instead you walk into a restaurant in the nice area of San Dimas. When one of my friends found out I was moving to San Dimas 10 years ago, he recommended La Villa Kitchen. He said he and his family had been going for years and they know the mom and sisters. It's family owned and the food is great. I'm very picky with real authentic Mexican food and this area is in a predominantly white area so I was skeptical. This is not the hood so how good can this spot really be right? The staff are sweet and down to earth. Inside is clean and there are many booths to sit at. The customers sitting inside look like regulars. I still remember the first time I tried their unlimited chips and salsa. They were perfect. Til this day, I always look forward to them! I still order the same thing. Two crunchy chicken tacos. The shell is perfectly crisp and the chicken is flavorful paired with heaps of their homemade chips and salsa. I usually ask for more salsa because it's honestly the best salsa I've had. It's so fresh and it's never too salty or spicy. It's just perfect. I can drink their salsa. I haven't tried their other menu items because I love what I order so much. I'm so happy my friend told me about this place and now it's one of my favorite places to eat at. So is this restaurant real authentic Mexican food? Met an old friend here recently, after having lived here for years, I was looking forward to eating here. The service was good, the place had just opened so no crowds. The food was a major disappointment though. Ordered the albondigas soup. For 11.95, a regular bowl, one large tortilla, not worth it. The soup had 3 large meatballs that were tasty, one piece of squash, a potato and a piece of carrot. The broth was little more than chicken stock, no real flavor, it was not good. My friend had the chicken soup, and that looked worse. In our way out, my friend apologized for the place, telling me that it used to be much better. I understand that restaurants have taken a hit, many are barely hanging on, cutting back, but this is not the way to do it, as much as I want to support mom and pop places, I won't be back. read more

I had a girlfriend who lived up in the High Desert near Victorville. She introduced me to this local burger/Mexican fast food joint like three miles from her house that had the best flautas. And the best part was it was a drive-thru. There were so many times we were tired to cook, but we always had flautas from this place as a back-up plan. In the years since I've tried a couple different places for flautas but nothing ever made a huge impression. The flautas here though? They might've made an impression. Big chonky boys, both with lots of beef and flour tortilla, grilled just so--that's exactly what I want in a good flauta. Plus, being able to place the guac on the side, so I can spread a thin layer of guac instead of drowning it in the stuff is perfect for me. I enjoyed every bite. The space is respectable, has a good warmth to it, and is what you'd expect from a small Mexican joint. I also like the service. It's the kind where you sit yourself while they grab the menu and salsa & chips for you. But they check on you just enough to not seem pushy. I had no complaints in that department. Consider La Villa Kitchen, for example. This is a small business, family owned and operated since 1986, plus they care about their customers AND the surrounding community. This year, I almost forgot about the Angel Tree project that they partner with the Salvation Army. Children write a "wish" on a paper ornament, which is hung on the Angel Tree. I drop by for a bite to eat and randomly choose a wish as a "secret" Santa. I envision the child on Christmas morning with bright eyes to see a present waiting for them. The requests are so cute "a remote control car, an arts and craft kit, a skateboard, books, walkie-talkie, etc." Thank you to the owner and his sisters, who extended the deadline this year so that MORE children could be given that smile on Wednesday morning. I hope you will support and patronize this worthy restaurant, they have weekly specials: Taco Tuesday, Fiesta Friday and Sangria Saturday. Food was good and it was great talking with Renee she was telling us the owners are from Guadalajara. The flavors are a little different than Mexican flavors. We have a Carna asada wet burrito the red sauce they use on top of the burrito is very tasty they also used it on the enchiladas. We also tried the enchilada and tamale both tasty but a different flavor. The tamale was covered with the sauce which was good but a little over powering for me as I like tamales. Chips and salsa the salsa was mild and the chips were nice and warm.. and although they come in a small bowl but they keep the bowl filled with chips. I was so disappointed with my To Go Order tonight. I usually am very happy with everything about La Villa, but the portions seem extra small. I paid about $54 for a chile verde combo, an enchilada combo and a burrito. I got 1/2 the amount i usually get (eating in and take out). I know times are difficult but if we're paying about $54 i expect a decent portion. My chile verde was about 1 tablespoons and rice about 1 tablespoon in both orders . I wish that I was more impressed with the restaurant, but unfortunately, my visit was not as great as others have had. The restaurant was quite busy, and the tables were not cleared at the time that I arrived so it made it a bit odd to "Seat Yourself" at a table. The wait staff was as good as they could be with what looked like they were very understaffed at the time that I arrived. You could tell that they were spread thin because the waitress looked a bit discombobulated when I asked her if it was okay to sit there while they were cleaning the tables from the previous guests. Once the waitress came and took our order all was much better and we did not have any issues with help. The chips and salsa were great and the waitress came back with refills as we waited for our order to arrive. The on draft beer that two of us got was fine. The food was not great for the price. I got a carne asada burrito and it was 95% beans and just a very little amount of carne. The portions also were a bit small for the price. One other person in our party got the chile verde burrito and they were not impressed. It had a flavor like they used liquid smoke to make it taste a bit smokey flavor. The last person in our party got the taquitos and they were just okay, but the guacamole was very good. Overall we were not that impressed with the place. Maybe it was just the day that we were there but the food was really the killer for us especially with the prices at what they were for the food. Anyway I hope that they improve on the food end and also maybe bring in a bit more wait staff to help out on a day that an event is happening in front of their restaurant. read more

I love La Villa Kitchen and despite all of the negative Nellys on here their food and the staff are GREAT! The beans are incredible. However....ugh, I hate to say it but I feel it needs to be: the prices have gone WAY up! We came about 6 months ago and a one taco lunch special plate was about $8. Today it's $11.25! It would be ok if the portions match the crazy prices but they stayed the same. I get it, everything's gone up in price but a $3-$8 increase is incredible. The dinners are over $18! Anyway, if you know this place you know their food is great. Sadly, we won't be able to frequent it as often due to the prices and that we can get something less in price for just as good quality. read more

All of their food is made fresh to order so it comes out hot. Staff is always very friendly and welcoming. The decor is cute inside. They occasionally have a car show down in that area and the restaurant can get a bit packed. Worth checking the cars out while you wait to eat. It's located down in the Vons center of Via Verde. My family and I have been coming here for the past two years since moving into the neighborhood, and it's always been one of our favorite spots. The service today was great. Our waiter was kind, attentive, and really made us feel welcome. Unfortunately, the food and drinks just weren't up to the usual standard we've come to love. My dish wasn't cooked quite how I requested, my husband's burrito meat didn't taste fresh, and our drink had an odd flavor (we even noticed another table returned theirs). I really wanted to like this place because it is so close to home. We have eaten here a couple of times and ordered take out once. The food holds up a little better if you eat at the restaurant but take out doesn't hold up well at all as it is way too greasy. The service is better when not busy. You can see the kitchen easily from the register while waiting which pretty much explains the not too appetizing greasy food. They seem to do well regardless which I am happy about because the shopping center would suffer greatly as the restaurant choices are few to none. Two coworkers and I stopped in for lunch several weeks ago. They had raved about this spot as they have been coming here for years. It is family owned and ran and the owner (a super kind lady) stopped by our table to check-in. It's located in a shopping center and if you blink, you'd miss it. But inside is nicely decorated and you come here for the service and food. The complimentary chips and salsa were great too. It is about time that I've written an update on my all-time favorite Mexican restaurant. It has been a long ride since my last review in 2010, and ever since COVID has stuck, tragedy not just struck all of us, but the Ramirez family at La Villa Kitchen. Owner and mama Ramirez passed away due to COVID-19, leaving her legacy in the hands of her children. I want to take this moment in this updated review to honor Mama Ramirez and her family legacy instilled into their restaurant. For over a decade since my previous review in 2010, La Villa Kitchen has continued to serve exceptional home-style Mexican food. No matter the time or day, when I come to La Villa Kitchen, I am at peace because I know I'm in warm company. The atmosphere largely remains the same as nearly a decade ago, of course traffic varies on the time of day and service can get pretty busy with a lot of folks around for lunch or dinner rush. Nevertheless, the servers always manage to make time for you, and make sure to top-off your drinks when they see that it's low. Not to mention, they all love to chat with you about your day, and about life. Most recently, I shared a lot my personal favorite comedians with them like: Jo Koy, Gabriel Iglesias, and Bill Engvall, and of course they shared with me some of their favorites. Long story short, I make the time to visit La Villa Kitchen whenever I can, and when I can - I try to invite and bring my friends over. I still hold to the firm opinion that they served absolutely the best complimentary chips and salsa in the business, and my friends and guests all continue to return to La Villa Kitchen after their first experience for the very same reasons. Heck, they've gone on to inviting their own friends and family without me to dine here! Trust me, you'll love the complimentary chips and salsa, I personally love it so much, that I can wipe out at least 3 plates of chips and salsa in addition to my meal before becoming stuffed. To this day, I still get my favorites: 1. Bean & Cheese Nachos with a side of Guacamole, and Sour Cream 2. Carne Asada Dinner with Thousand Island dressing w/salad, no tortillas. 3. Enchiladas La Villa or Enchiladas Rancheras. 4. Two Taco Combination plate with Carne Asada. Having been around a lot as a foodie, I've eaten my fair share of Mexican food. But there's just something about La Villa Kitchen that puts it above the rest, and keeps me coming back for more. If you're thinking about checking this place out, ponder no more. Although I live down the street from this restaurant, the few times I went staff was not very friendly. Food is not that great. Last night ordered online for pick-up. A simple small order of chicken nachos. My husband went to pick up the prepaid order and said staff completely ignored him. He finally asked someone for the order, which was basically thrown at him.
