Absolutely terrible experience at The Stubborn Mule. The hospitality was awful from start to finish. Our server took over 10 minutes just to greet us, and the wait for our food was even worse. Charging $15.95 for a BLTA and then charging extra for tomato is already ridiculous -- only for them to come back another 10 minutes later to tell me they were out of multiple items anyway. Once the food finally arrived, the server never checked on us again. We had to flag someone down ourselves just to get the check. I didn't catch her name because she barely introduced herself in the first place. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place on a Saturday afternoon. I am a salad guy, no fancy salad, but great tasting salad with blackened salmon or chicken--Caesar style. The Stubborn Mule in San Dimas, has a great Caesar salad with salmon. I'm not sure if it's offered all the time but I saw it once on the special board and had it and it was fantastic. I know they offer it with different types of meats, but I absolutely love salmon on Caesar salads, and this is one of the best that I've had. The stubborn mule is a relatively large place on the inside, uh great place for people to hang out and they have a full bar. I usually order the Allagash ale and my wife usually gets vodka and soda water. The service is always great, they are friendly and if they do not know every ingredient, they will ask the cook instead of guessing--excellent. Sometimes there's a little wait. The ambience is great; again, small town feel but larger restaurant. Nice vibe with soft lighting. The only thing I wish I could have done was take a picture of it, because my following description probably won't do it justice. It has romaine lettuce homemade croutons parmesan cheese and house made dressing I believe the dressing has white anchovies in it which is how you make a great Caesar salad dressing. If you're a salad person, order this. Again, unfortunately, I can't remember if that is a staple on their menu or if it happened to be one of their specials. They have daily specials in the restaurant and many of them are excellent but only served that day. While you're there, have an Allagash ale they pair well together. read more

I'm always in search of a reliable bar/restaurant near my parent's house any time the Dodgers are in the post season. All I need are lots of TVs, good energy, and above average food. Luckily for me, Stubborn Mule comes equipped with all of the above. There are literally TVs from every angle, so it's hard to have a bad seat. You seat yourself and the waitstaff is quick to take your order. They offer pretty standard bar food: apps, burgs, sammies. I went with the chicken club ($17.50) with a tater tot upgrade (+$1.00). The chicken club comes with your choice of chicken (grilled for me), bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, pepper jack cheese + chipotle aioli on a brioche bun. This was the chicken club of my dreams - the chicken breast was super juicy and flavorful and all the toppings were topping. The bacon was crispy and the avocado was creamy. Ten out of ten. I had bites of the BBQ bacon burger ($17.25) and this was good as well. It tasted like a fancy Western Bacon cheeseburger. Though it's categorized as a bar, Stubborn Mule seems to welcome families. I really enjoy going here. It's a very laid back vibe during the week and at 11am on Sunday. Justine is an awesome server, she is always so cheerful and a great bloody Mary maker. The calamari has been our usual go to. We recently tried the sweet and spicy calamari. It was delicious, it had just the right amount of sauce, so it wasn't swimming in it. This is one of my favorite places to stop by in the area. I drive 50 miles east for other reasons, but I always end up coming to the Stubborn Mule after I'm done with what I need to do. It's always a good time; the servers are amazing, the place is huge with plenty of indoor seating, and they always have every single game you could possibly want on. They've got a great happy hour, reasonably priced beers, and the people who come here are genuinely so cool. You'll find a great mix of ages (21+ at the bar obviously), and every single person I've ever encountered, whether working or a customer, has been awesome. Oh, and the food? Great. I love local bars especially when everyone knows each other. My husband and I had a great time here tonight. Found this little gem on Yelp and gave it a try. Their food was amazing and service was over and beyond. Shout out to Justine!!!! She is great!!!! I would definitely come back!!! I loved the vibe there!!! So welcoming and food is delicious!!! We tried their mules and their own red ale and pale ale and did not disappoint. We also tried their tater tota with steak chili, sliders (pulled pork and ground beef) and honey sriracha wings. Their chili is bomb you can throw that on anything it will make everything taste delicious. Good chunks of steak were inside and was full of flavors. We ended up sitting at the bar area which was a good choice. But they were busy for Tuesday night. Lot of regulars we saw and we made new friends while dining there. So we went as a group in the bar. We were told we were not allowed to each just order at the bar individually and we had to pay with 1 check. We had 18 people. Then the next problem was we had to pay 18% tip no matter what! Our server was sweet- it was not her fault. The policy is dumb. We have done alot of TGI parties at many restraunts and have never had this problem-it was so annoying. I can tell you Our group will not be back under this policy. Normally we love this place. But when we walked in. It was over crowded. orders sitting in the window. And a seat your self sign. The problem was as we were waiting for a table to clear. Other patrons walked in after us. Marched past my family and took a table another patron was spilling over onto. We had no clue. It looked like someone was sitting there and in the bathroom. the could have been avoided if the servers started to take names when the tables filled up. We came here on our last night in town visiting my dad. We were seated right away. My dad ordered the southwest eggrolls as starters which were really yummy. I believe I ordered the BBQ burger, and my husband got the Mushroom Swiss burger. We ordered the pepperoni pizza for my son off the kids' menu. All of our food was really good. This is a sports bar, so it's pretty noisy. It didn't bother my noise-sensitive toddler though. They didn't have booster seats, but they did have high chairs. While they have a kids menu, there's just a general sense that it's not really geared toward kids. Our server was OK. He wasn't particularly friendly and probably could've checked on us a little more, but it was fine--not the worst. If we're measuring by food alone, we'd definitely come back here the next time we're in town. My dad is a regular, so it's probably pretty likely to happen. read more

First time here, Monday night Football. I pass this place EVERY day. I just never seen a MIXED crowd go in. The Happy Hour menu was great and the quality of the food was also. For the food, I'ld return also to watch a game. I'm on the fence about the service. After two of us asked for water-- different times (out of 4@ the table) around 3rd quarter, the server brought one water. At the end of the visit she brought one ticket. We decided to bring a guest to Stubborn Mule yesterday, planning to share some good food and company on a lazy Saturday afternoon (arrived about 4:00 pm). Jackpot! Only a few other folks in the place, so we figured it would be a good opportunity to show-off a favorite spot of ours. We ordered several appetizers, including ballpark nachos, tots with chili cheese, and their soft pretzels with the expressed expectation we'd all share them. The food was perfection - as always! "So why the drop in review stars?" you may be asking. When the appetizers came out, we were told by our server that ALL forks were being washed, but they'd be out in a few minutes. She'd be back; no problem. Please advance ten minutes, as we politely pick at the perimeters of the nachos and tots with NOTHING to really scoop, push, or even nudge the two multi-layered dishes to our individual service plates. No plastic tableware available? A spoon? A halved menu to cut and separate? A swizzle stick to prod?! We tried to use the nacho chips but, thankfully, they were too fresh and would break. Hey, we're all family at the table, but scooping with hands is a little too gauche for even our crew! First reminder for tableware - "I'll check on it." Five minutes more,"It'll be out soon." Five minutes again - and the sound of some silverware clanking behind the counter in front of the service window is music to our ears - but NOTHING. Finally, our guest gets up, goes to the bar register, and is told, "We'll have it out momentarily." JUST HAND US SOME FRICKIN' SILVERWARE, OR PASS OUT SOME "DIRTIES" AND I'LL WASH 'EM MYSELF IN MY BEER MUG!!!! (Wasn't said, but tempting) Of course, now the best parts of two of our appetizers have cooled, and the cheese and toppings are congealing - what a torture to NOT have sampled all but the edges of them in their prime for want of some cheap plastic tableware - or, more appropriately, a little attention from our designated server. For the record, I did not skimp on my tip (20% plus) because these are young folks who rely on such, but I would have felt justified in doing so. I also feel for the young male server who provided (or more appropriately we called over) for most of our service. (He sat us, but a little blonde appears to have moved-in on our table after being seated, since he had no knowledge our order was taken when he shortly returned to do so). This female server passed by several times during our "fork drought," but never addressed our issue - though it was apparent that the picking had ended and we were patiently awaiting our utensils for the deep plunge - but never a refill offer, progress report, or check-up for further service needs. Once the food was out, we were invisible to her. When the young man, who we flagged down, did bring us the clean tableware, he was noticeably embarrassed, apologized, and cautioned the forks were warm from the dishwasher. (We never doubted the truthfulness, but appreciated the warning). Boy, this had been a long explanation, and we're not "Karens or Kevins" (Okay, you decide, because this incident may seem trivial) - but, since I'm aware the manager reads reviews daily, please keep my guest's final observation in mind, which was to the effect that BAR RESCUE was needed for the staff's attitude and lack of initiative. I don't think my guest will be back. We will, but OUCH - that hurt - we may pack some plastic tableware in with us, however. One final kicker to my story - The special on their board was a chef salad - an interesting choice if forks are at a premium. Step it up Stubborn Mule. A new barbecue joint is moving in down the street, and I don't want to lose you - nor you, I'm assuming, us. read more

We waited over 40 minutes had 2 drinks, followed up on the food to be told by the waiter who took our order, they did not have an order. Gave us our drink bill and an "I'm sorry". That's it!! We came here first thing on Saturday morning and sat at the bar. The bartender was great. She juggled some tables and the bar very well! I had the Philly cheesesteak without bread and a salad. Loved it! My husband had the crispy chicken wrap and tots with cheese and bacon on them. The tots were so good and my husband really enjoyed the wrap. They have good ranch dressing as well. I'll probably have to come back to review this place again, but the wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon was really underwhelming mainly because the bacon bits were hard and unappetizing. It wasn't too big of a deal that I had to go to the bar to place my order since it was probably really busy for staff, but it made it easier for me as far as paying for my bill is concerned. I'd like to come back again and give something else on the menu a shot to see if I can update the score.
