I think this is an interesting place and the outside is the least inviting. Driving by, you wouldn't know that it would be a bar. I've been here twice and parking on the street can get difficult. When you come inside, the interior is okay but the atmosphere isn't inviting. It feels a bit uncomfortable. I went during happy Hour time, and I think the prices for drinks is very decent! I paid $3 for my beers. The problem is there was only one girl working during the entire happy hour. Other bartenders didn't come until nearing the end of it, so the poor girl had to manage a full bar with other full tables. People kept asking her for drinks and she was trying her best to make as many as she can. As happy hour died down and it got dark outside us when more workers came and there was security. My party sat inside then we moved outside. There was some fire to keep us warm and then we noticed another bar outside. The bar made our drinks wrong so we ended up going to the inside one more. Overall it just seems like there are lacking parts to this place; it needs more workers, more consistency, more rules set in place. This is not a favorite place of mine to be. read more

I read a couple reviews that stated this place isn't very good, drinks are overpriced and servers are not good- Well, I disagree. I recommend this place. My husband and I have been here twice now and both times have been a great time dining experience. This last Saturday, we sat out on the patio and were helped by Kristin at the bar area, who was absolutely amazing! From start to finish, the service was above and beyond; friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Honestly, this girl deserves a raise! The food was also good! It was flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ceviche with avocado and chips was refreshing, the bruschetta was packed with flavor and perfectly drizzled, and the flatbread was loaded with a generous amount of toppings. The ambience had a relaxed yet lively vibe. It was perfect for a night out. Between the great service, delicious food, and overall vibe, this place is a gem. Went in for happy hour with a friend. Horrible experience! Servers are basic, need a lesson in customer service. The one outside was super rude and couldn't even fake a smile. We had to go fetch our drinks, they never came over and asked us if we wanted another drink and we were there for at least two hours. The food was horrible, then I bought a bottle of wine Togo, and when I went to pay she charged me $48 for a cheap bottle of white wine with a twist off top. My friend was with me and I didn't want to embarrass her by denying the charge. When I got home I looked up how much the wine really is, it's only $10 at Total Wine & More! This spot has a lot of potential. The music is great, and the location is convenient. Service used to be solid, especially on Mondays when we would come in regularly. The gal working then was always friendly, attentive, and really made the experience enjoyable. Lately, though, the service has been hit or miss -- mostly depending on who's behind the bar. The male bartenders, in particular, tend to come across as rude, almost like they're doing you a favor just by opening a bottled beer. It really takes away from the vibe. To top it off, they've switched to serving draft beer in plastic cups, which feels like a step down for a place that could be so much better. I've been here a few times now. It is close to where I went to grad school. It's a fun little bar with mostly outdoor seating. They play the Dodger's games which is cool. They have happy hour Monday through Friday early evenings and Taco Tuesday. The drinks are good and they have a good variety, as well as a full bar. The beer us good too, they have rotating drafts. My fiancé got drunk off the sour beer this weekend, he said it was very good. I had a few Palomas, Hugh quality with Herradura tequila and not house tequila. I was not hungover at all. The food is good, I recommend the nachos with chicken and the caprese salad. The green chile queso is bomb! Staff is pretty good, they check on you in intervals not too far apart. They have a really nice patio with space heaters, fire pits, outdoor bar, and TV's. They also had a one man band on this night. There is also a small inside area. The staff seemed young and inexperienced but they were trying to make it work. Our waitress didn't know if they had old fashioneds or ginger ale. She looked overwhelmed covering the entire back patio and only came over when we waved her down. The old fashioned was terrible. They muddled bright red maraschino cherries in the bottom and poured the whiskey on top. Nothing even resembling an old fashioned. The blonde bartender Kya or something denied my real ID. Friday 8:30. Was laughing at me and ignoring me. I tried to go back a couple minutes later with a pic of my passport I just got sent and she didn't even want to look at it and told us to go to a different bar multiple times. I was ordering with my two friends who she didn't ID and she lied to us about who the manager was after I asked to speak with them and said he was the one who did the light test and it"failed". My ID is a vertical Texas which I just turned 21 in beginning of the month, clearly not fake. She gave my ID back to me as well, which is a felony to do if it is a "fake". Grand opening for this quaint Spanish style tapas bar! Just what La Verne needed! The atmosphere is fun, the drinks are strong and the food is bite size and shareable. The staff is pleasant and super friendly, even during the craziness of a grand opening. They have an outdoor patio that's cozy and has live performers. Highly recommend the al pastor pressed sandwich, it's a great size and shareable, served with a chipotle ranch. Love the new addition to downtown! Come try it out before they have a long wait. Ps. It definitely has a college feel / vibe but would recommend for a low key outing with friends. There was a DJ spinning all evening and was definitely on point with his 2000s throwbacks. If you must drink, and you find yourself, God forbid, in LA Verne, kick back, sit back and start dreaming as you plan your visit Taberna. Different people have different ideas of what makes their ideal party place, so here, in no particular order, are my top reasons and why I think you should come here: The chump at the door cards everyone regardless of age. I'm 60, clearly, and was forced to show ID to enter regardless of my balding head, grey hair and crows feet. This is not good for the self esteem, except maybe for the cigarette smoking divorceé looking for a drunk loser to pay for her drinks. What's so special about bartenders? Here, not much. Maybe here at Taberna, it's the long, late nights, or the complicated drinks ordered by La Verne's glitteratti, or maybe it's the demanding barely legal customers. Whatever it may be, the bartenders are bewildered on how to tip a bottle of liquid upside down and pour it into a glass. At Taberna, they embrace the concept of team work. Waitresses eagerly try their hand at bartending. One of my buddies asked a waitress attempting to mix a cocktail "what are you making"? Her response " just making it up as I go" as she poured anything with reach into the glass. Topped off with excessive cranberry, anything is drinkable. Stick to bottles and cans. The crowd at Taberna is right out of the 909. The notion of widespread lifted trucks and tattooed, flat-brimmed-hat wearing bros must be at least in part the result how isolated the inland's people have been. The idea of backwater comes to mind. Nothing highbrow here folks. People apparently come to your bar for your party. Many return to your bar based on that party's experience. And that experience is heavily dependent on having the right crowd. Everyone here seems too drunk to drive and ready for a fight. I asked a bartender what does Taberna means, he shrugged his shoulders, said who knows and continued to pour drinks. The mess he created in the glass may as well have been bar mat juice. The recipient eagerly guzzled it down and chased it with a shot of house tequila. Just another Saturday night at Taberna, so line up, bring your ID, and enjoy what seems like the Georgia wilderness. Maylene D. and I went to back to back barre work outs and we were too hungry to do careful research for a lunch spot. We ended up here since the photos didn't look too bad and they had sangrias and mimosas, which were our search keywords. Covid Safety - A sign at the front tells the guests to seat themselves in the patio. Outdoor seating, but the table was terribly dirty and the chair was sticky. We had to wipe down our own table and seats before sitting down. Should have taken the warning sign and left. Staff has face mask and face shield. We both started off with their house special Red Sangria ($9/each) since they advertised that it comes with FRUITS. I love my sangria that comes with fruits... but no... a sad cherry isn't plural FRUITS. It didn't taste good either. I wish I ordered a few mimosas ($4/each) instead of this sad sad sangria. So typically I loved tapas style meals since I like sharing food. Maylene D. and I ordered a really good sampling size from their menu, and NOTHING was amazing. If there was a silver lining of one decent item, it would be redeeming. But no... no no no... all pedestrian at best if not completely utterly disappointing. Street Corn ($5 on menu, charged $6) - Just corn... but it didn't really taste like the corns I can get for much cheaper on the streets or at the swapmeet. If you look at the menu I took a photo of and compared it to the receipt WE WERE OVERCHARGED FOR THIS ITEM!! $1 is no big deal, but it's the concept of the situation. This place is such a scam!!!!! Caprese Stack ($9) - One of the caprese stack photos were the reasons why we came here. Maylene D. and I both love tomatoes and mozzerella so we really expected to love this but the quality of the tomatoes were really mediocre. Steak Nachos ($9) - Well we ORDERED the Steak Nacho... but what we got was definitely not the steak nachos. It was totally al pastor... It looked the same, tasted the same. I did a biopsy of the protein to compare it to an Al Pastor Quesadilla we ordered and it was literally the same. The nacho cheese was WEAK... so bland and diluted. HOW DO YOU MESS UP NACHOs. We wanted to speak to the chef, but the waitress declined and said the chef doesn't speak English. I really don't care what language they speak but I need the protein I order to be correct. This is the MAIN REASON for the 1 star. We barely touched this item and we were still charged for it. We even brought the entire portion to-go to a nonpartial Mexican friend who doesn't have background of what we ordered and they also said it was CLEARLY AL PASTOR. They also agreed it tasted terrible and the cheese was diluted as if watered down because they ran out of cheese. Good thing I have no religious restriction on pork, but I have friends who do and this was thoroughly frustrating. Al Pastor Grilled Quesadilla ($9) - Oily and not cheese enough. Not bad but after the whole steak nachos thing, I was pretty over this as well. Buffalo Chicken Flatbread ($9) - Maylene D. and I agreed that this was the least bad, okayest item we ordered. Although not good enough to drag me back to this place and not good enough to redeem all the other failing items we ordered. Burrata Salad ($12) - We love burrata! And we were pleased it was served with a bed of arugula. It also came with toasted bread slices and olives. The arugula was overly dressed and soggy and the bread was so bad we didn't bother finishing it or packing it togo. I usually loooove bread but this one was so unworthy of my carb intake. Apparently smoking is allowed in their back patio and clouds of smoke clogged my lungs as if there was yet another California wild fire nearby. I coughed my lungs up as if I had Covid symptoms. It was terrible. When we asked for the check, our waitress didn't offer to bring out any to go containers despite a table full of unsatisfying food. Maylene D. had to ask for containers, and our waitress brought 2 tiny containers that clearly wouldn't fit all the food. She was like ohh do you need more? Um yes -_- CLEARLY... Service was consistently poor as I had to often waive the waitress down when I needed things. If you know me, I rarely do fast food and yet I would have rather gone to eat fast food than this stuff... It would have been equally subpar, oily, but they probably would have gotten the protein right for lower pricing. This experience was so terrible, I put in extra extra effort to label my photos with the fact that this place is not recommended so my photos don't lure any visual folks here. read more
