We stopped by on our way back from Azusa Canyon to order a late breakfast. My favorite dish is Huevos a La Mexicana, beans, rice, with flour tortillas and they bring out chips with salsa. The cashier took our order and we waited for our food for indoor dining. The food came and the wrong tortillas were added but corrected. The food could've had more flavor but overall pretty good. Hidden gem. Highly recommend Pepe's Tacos on Sierra Madre. The service and staff were so helpful, accommodating, and the food was excellent. We came on a Wednesday, and there happened to be a special for 99 cent fish tacos. We ordered six fish tacos and an order of chicken enchiladas with rice and beans to split. The staff provided chips and salsa as we waited. Hands down those fish tacos were cooked perfectly. I'll be back! They have a Tuesday special for 4-5 tacos and a drink for $5. After spending the day at San Gabriel River, Pepe's was everything. While I was there, it was clear with the amount of foot traffic, that it's a well known spot to locals. We stayed and had table service which I'm soo glad that was an option. We were starving when we saw them from the road. The establishment is in a plaza, well kept, with an A rating. Where's thw BEANS. I've been going to Pepe's pretty consistently for almost a year now. Their food is authentic and tasty. My go to is a simple old bean and cheese burrito. Pepe's makes the best burrito in town but the last two (2) times I've been there that seems to have changed. Burritos are now skimpy to the point where you are biting into tortilla only. Not your typical Pepe's tacos Not a chain restaurant Location: Located on Sierra Madre in Azusa. This spot has a small parking lot so it might be challenging finding a spot during lunchtime. Interior: There are around 6 tables and decent amount of chairs. Mixture of small and medium sized tables. It can get really crowded around lunchtime as the restaurant is not that big. Service: The cashier took our orders and all the food came out at the same time, which I kind of like because I don't want someone to be staring at me while I'm eating vice versa. Food: You have the choice of carnitas, al pastor, asada, barbacoa, chorizo, cabeza or fish with beans, rice, cilantro, onion, and salsa. We ordered the typical asada burrito which came with rice, beans, cilantro, onion, and salsa was on the side. We also got the carnitas burrito mojado. Another dish was fish plate which came with rice, grilled fish fillet, beans, side salad. Chips and salsa were on the house and it was bomb. I was disappointed with the guacamole. Definitely missing some seasoning. Everything else ordered were just okay. I guess I was expecting more from an authentic restaurant. I would give this place another try. We wanted to just get something small to eat until dinner later , so we got a taco each and shared the torta cut in half . & man was the Buche on the tacos on point it wasn't burnt like other Mexican food spots , and the torta was just a great ! I never get tortas because some spots just over do it with all the toppings but nonetheless I definitely will be back again to try a few other things I was interested in . After being unable to locate the restaurant I was looking for I chose Pepe's Taco for my lunch destination while in beautiful Azusa. This for sure is a cute little hole in the wall restaurant with incredible tasty food and I am happy I stumbled across this hidden gem. Upon walking into the restaurant, I placed my order at the front counter and paid upfront for my lunch. I chose the 3-taco chicken combination plate with rice and beans and complimentary chips and salsa while waiting for my food. The tacos were loaded with a ton of meat and lots of white onions and cilantro. The chicken was nicely seasoned and the whole meal was mouthwatering from the start to the finish. 5 stars for reasonably priced and tasty food plus friendly service. I'll be back. Tacos are good but customer service is lacking. My husband got a gift certificate for this place a little over a year ago. We tried to use it, and they told us it was expired. We told them that it was illegal for gift certificates to expire in California. They didn't care. They refused for honor it. The young girl at the counter was not kind about it. She went in back to ask and they sent her out to tell us no. She tried to keep the certificate too. read more

Wonderful experience getting catering from Pepe's Tacos! We hosted my husband's birthday party (about 40 people) - and the week of decided we didn't want to BBQ for that many people. And it was Pepe's Tacos to the rescue! We ordered tacos (you can pick two or three types of meat), cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. The food was wonderful - and the price wasn't bad! AMAZING fish tacos! Like, unbeatable. Truly. This is easily my favorite taco joint in the Azusa area. And with 99 cent tacos on Wednesday, I am going to be here all the time. The tacos are on the smaller side, but that's normal for tacos in the states. The fish is the best I've ever had. Each morsel is crispy, crunchy, salty, and fresh. With every bite, I couldn't help from letting out a very loud "mMhhmmMh!" Their cream sauce is also excellent. It's super light, yet still carries a strong flavor. Impressive. I also tried their lengua tacos! The meat was really tender and not overly salted. These heavier tacos complemented the lighter fish tacos well. Pepe's also has really good chips. Finally, a place where the chips aren't drenched in grease! Every chip was very consistent in texture, crunch, and freshness. The green salsa was also perfect. I love spicy foods, but I can't handle it super well. Pepe's salsa had the perfect amount of spice for me. It was enough to provoke a soft sniffle, but not so much that I left the table crying. Lastly, I loved their horchata. Horchata is the only drink that I prefer to be really sweet, and Pepe's was perfect. The milk to cinnamon ratio was well-balanced, and the vanilla flavor was present throughout the entire drink, not just waiting to surprise you at the bottom of the cup. Always suspicious about a smaller restaurant with a vast menu, but we were craving a few different things and they had almost everything we wanted so we gave it a shot. Overall, pretty good and it all hit the spot. Prices are very reasonable and they give free chips, even in to go orders which was cool. Menudo - 4 stars. good flavor but more soup than meat. Light on the hominy, which is how I like it too. May be my fault for ordering menudo in a weekday, but it was cold out and it sounded good. Will try again sometime and see if ratios improve. Tostada - 4 stars. was soggy by the time we got it home. Too soggy. We should have asked for it separately meat on the other hand was amazing. Tacos - 4 stars. Meats ranged from avg to good. Nothing really stood out as amazing but would say asada and carnitas were best. Shrimp and fish were good but a little light meat. Buche and lengua were ok. The hard shell taco was the stand out in this group and you can try with any meat. The barbacoa would be amazing in this. Salsa - 4.5 stars. both green and red were really good. We spent $28+. This is not a typical restaurant in that you won't get silverware, drinks, waitress service if you don't ask. I'll just say that service was rather different/ complicated. We did receive chips and Verde salsa when we sat down. I love chips and salsa, but these did not have any flavor. No one finished the quesadillas as they were also tasteless. The shrimp were overcooked and tough. The salad was very fresh as were the flour tortillas.
