Hidden gem. Highly recommend Pepe's Tacos on Sierra Madre. The service and staff were so helpful, accommodating, and the food was excellent. We came on a Wednesday, and there happened to be a special for 99 cent fish tacos. We ordered six fish tacos and an order of chicken enchiladas with rice and beans to split. The staff provided chips and salsa as we waited. Hands down those fish tacos were cooked perfectly. I'll be back! They have a Tuesday special for 4-5 tacos and a drink for $5. After spending the day at San Gabriel River, Pepe's was everything. While I was there, it was clear with the amount of foot traffic, that it's a well known spot to locals. We stayed and had table service which I'm soo glad that was an option. We were starving when we saw them from the road. The establishment is in a plaza, well kept, with an A rating. Worth the trip if you're in the area!!

Time to find a new spot. Prices are going up and the food quality is getting worse. Nachos used to come out packed! Now they're coming out with very little of everything.

The cashiers they're friendly people are nice places clean and what not even though the plumbing in the bathroom smells like it's backed up. But the tacos oh my goodness they are way overpriced. I can get better tacos from anywhere else. Pathetic tacos for $3.

Not your typical Pepe's tacos Not a chain restaurant Location: Located on Sierra Madre in Azusa. This spot has a small parking lot so it might be challenging finding a spot during lunchtime. Interior: There are around 6 tables and decent amount of chairs. Mixture of small and medium sized tables. It can get really crowded around lunchtime as the restaurant is not that big. Service: The cashier took our orders and all the food came out at the same time, which I kind of like because I don't want someone to be staring at me while I'm eating vice versa. Food: You have the choice of carnitas, al pastor, asada, barbacoa, chorizo, cabeza or fish with beans, rice, cilantro, onion, and salsa. We ordered the typical asada burrito which came with rice, beans, cilantro, onion, and salsa was on the side. We also got the carnitas burrito mojado. Another dish was fish plate which came with rice, grilled fish fillet, beans, side salad. Chips and salsa were on the house and it was bomb. I was disappointed with the guacamole. Definitely missing some seasoning. Everything else ordered were just okay. I guess I was expecting more from an authentic restaurant. I would give this place another try. Next time I'll order something else on their menu.

So after reading all the reviews for this location and the other one I decided to just come myself and it was well worth it ! We wanted to just get something small to eat until dinner later , so we got a taco each and shared the torta cut in half . & man was the Buche on the tacos on point it wasn't burnt like other Mexican food spots , and the torta was just a great ! I never get tortas because some spots just over do it with all the toppings but nonetheless I definitely will be back again to try a few other things I was interested in . I walked in and sat down thinking they come to your table but I guess here you gotta walk in and order and pay and they ask if you want it for here or to go . Basically like fast food I guess you can say . And they have outdoor seating . Which is convenient

Order a asada breakfast burrito. It was very disappointing. No flavor, no salt, all I taste is oil.

This kind of Mexican restaurant is right up my alley. Great food, stiff drinks, excellent service, and lively atmosphere. Oh, and plenty of chips and salsa!! I had the two tacos combination platter (one beef, one chicken) w/ a skinny jalapeño margarita. Along w/ guacamole to accompany the chips and salsa for the table - this meal was incredible. I could've walked out and gotten hit by a bus and would've been happy that this was my last meal. We were seated upstairs and it was a little more intimate and cozy w/ low ceilings (look out tall people!). Service was so on point, we never had to rubberneck once, the servers were always present without being overbearing. Not sure if there is dedicated parking for the restaurant, but there was plenty of street parking during Sunday afternoon. I think I found my new favorite Mexican spot in the Covina/Azusa area!!

The evening we went the restaurant was 80% full. The staff greeted us when we walked in. I believe one of the gentleman might have been the owner himself. He was super welcoming . The restaurant has great decor all over the restaurant and a lively atmosphere. The staff that helped us were all attentive and personable. We were given chips and salsa shortly after seating. I love the locations that offer fresh crispy chips. I ended up ordering one of Desebrada Shredded Beef Burrito (wet) and they told me I could do the half red and green sauce. I also ordered one of the Chicken Dorado (crunchy taco). My wife ordered a taco combo plate and Jalapeño Vodkarita. The portions were generous and abundant. My burrito was hefty! I enjoyed every bite of that wet burrito. Saucy and full of deliciousness. The affordable pricing is great because of the amount of food. The taco was fine, but I'd got with a burrito again since you can take the rest home. My wife enjoyed her food and drink. We had never been here in all these years. Max's Mexican Cuisine will be on our list again when are craving some Mexican food. ( ^_^)b

Service: 5 out of 5 their employees are very pleasant and professional. They gladly answer all your foodie ingredient questions. They are more than accommodating. You will see, they are genuinely nice. As far as the ambience goes, for certain a stro g 4 out of 5. Nothing can be more comforting than to sit back and relax here. They have hi tables woth stools, as well as the hybrid style booth/table combo. Fans are always circulating and it is definitely not too stuffy. They do have music playing in the background, but it is not too loud like many places do. We have been back to try new and different dishes....all have been very tasty. A smaller and cozy place to have a nice meal. I can tell they cater to the local college students and offer a student discount. ***Hidden Bonus: their café de la olla is DELICIOUS! You can twll they make it fresh regularly and do not let it sit. It is by far waaaaay nicer than what they serve anywhere in the area. We would drive to get a nice cup in Monrovia, but this café de la olla beats it hands down. It is NOT bitter, nor is it over sweetened! So.etimes we swing by for a To-good cup. We recommend this place for everything: nice food served with a friendly smile.

There are two Fridays left if you want to partake in the seasonal dishes offered during this time, please bookmark this restaurant. We ordered the two Specials of the Day (Fri., 3/28/25): 1. Capirotada (bread pudding with peanuts & raisins in syrup) $10. We also had Enchiladas in Poblano Mole. Each entree included a cup of Fideo soup, a side of rice and beans. I could not resist the Cafe de Olla (Mexican coffee brewed with a cinnamon stick), this was served with two cookies in a ceramic mug. This is how you would be served in someone's home. I was stunned when they brought it to me. The food was authentic, delicious, good portions. You will love how the food is plated and presented in ceramic dishes (pottery). We didn't finish and brought the rest home for dinner. I literally was transported back to my childhood, when my grandmother would cook these two same dishes during Lent. Food has been excellent! My daughter kept saying delicioso (Can you say delicioso? *Dora the explorer*) haha. We've made multiple trips since our first time. Carne en su juego had a great tasting salsa. Sopes had a nice crunchiness to them. Chile relleno was very good and juicy. The enchiladas were all very good.
