Oooooh man... Craving tacos. You know tacos tacos tacos We all were wanting some nice delicious tacos. Well, not expecting much from a hole in the wall type place, we came upon this place. The asada tacos... delicious. Fish tacos... Were good. Salsa... mmmmmm...

Gave this place a try for the first time today for lunch. I had a lengua(beef tongue) burrito that comes with beans and rice inside. It was a good size burrito with a nice amount of the chopped meat inside. I added some of their avocado salsa to mine to give it a little more heat and flavor. The cost was seven dollars and change without a drink so not to costly.

Marino's Tacos is located on Arrow Hwy, one block west of Irwindale Ave in a small strip plaza next to Farmer Boys, Jimmy John's, teriyaki and poke restaurants. At first glance, it seems like any of the other countless taco places in the area. I have driven by many times and have even stopped at Farmer Boys and the teriyaki place without giving Marino's a glance, but after finding out that they serve cochinita pibil (which is a pork dish similar to carnitas), I decided to try it out. They have a variety of choices from tacos, burritos, tortas, sopes, plates, taquitos with various meats (carne asada, pibil, carnitas, chicken, fish and shrimp). I decided to order their tacos on my first visit, two carne asada tacos ($1.49 each) and two cochinita pibil tacos ($1.99 each). The tacos were on a regular-sized corn tortilla, however, they pile on the meat; all four were overflowing. The asada was very tender and delicious, and the pibil was also tender and it was pretty close to an authentic cochinita pibil that you get in Yucatan. The prices were very reasonable; I believe their burritos are between $6 and $7.50. Overall, great tacos, fair prices and friendly and efficient service. I am going to give this place my business as much as I can so that they can stay open and I can get my pibil fix.

    The chili relleno plate

What I ordered: chili relleno plate & tried the mild, green, and avocado salsas When I got there, I somehow missed the daily specials board that was outside the door and the one that was inside behind the counter.... So looking at the menu, my first reaction was "wow, there are no taco plates..." Knowing I wanted rice and beans, I opted for the chili relleno plate because there were only three option for plates (and enchiladas was not one of them). But I like chili rellenos so I figured I'd give it a try. After ordering, since my food was taking a while (which I assumed meant they were making it fresh of course), I noticed then that there was a taco plate option on the daily specials. When I got home and opened my container, to my surprise there were TWO chili rellenos. I was happy to see that because the plate was on the expensive side for a small hole in the wall place, and it also meant I could save some for later since it was way too much food. However the containers they used for to-go orders, the pockets for rice and beans seemed smaller than other places. Maybe it was just my imagination, or the fact that the beans were really good and I wanted more... So onto the taste. I already mentioned the beans were really good. The rice was also good; above average but not anything I'd jump up and cheer for. The rellenos could use a little more sauce. Also, the cheese was not fully melted. But there was also probably a pound of cheese in each relleno so I'm kind of not surprised the heat didn't get all the way through to the center. But if you're going to put that much cheese in there, you need to get it hot enough to melt it all. The salsa was really good. It had more heat than I'm used to, but it was great! The avocado salsa had a little kick. The mild also had a little kick that you don't usually find in a mild. The green was my least favorite of the three I tried but it was ok. Overall, I am excited to go back and try the tacos and I wouldn't be surprised if they got more stars from me after that. Had I known about the taco plate special, I would have gotten that in the first place. My disappointment in my food was likely my own fault for ordering a relleno at a taco place....until next time, 2 stars.

One time I ordered 4 tacos, 1 burrito, a drink and churros and it took them longer than 25 minutes to be ready. The people who dined in that were behind me in line were served first. This defeats the purpose of takeout... also they burnt the heck out of my churros and still have them to me like that. Their employees are rude especially the girl with the fake red hair. She' s vulgar talking to coworkers instead of customers and a rude attitude. She was rude with an attitude when asked her about drink prices (not on the menu) and a question about the salsa bar . She made me feel like I was a bothering her after spending over $50 in their establishment. The way she behaves makes you think she owns the business. Another thing is that they don't listen or pay attention to your order. Both in person and for delivery they end up messing up your order. It was simple no onions on 3 tacos and they always mess up my son's food. Now I have an angry and hungry little kid on top of the experience. I keep going back because their food is good and kind of hope to have a better experience. I don't I'll go back, it's a shame but it's not worth it anymore. Gave this place many chances to support a small business but they don't reciprocate the love back. This place could be a 5 star but their employees hinder the restaurant back from being that.

Their hand made tortillas are delicious and come out piping hot. When I saw the plate, I assumed that it would be a 5 star meal. Everything looked so perfect. I've actually had to give it some thought and concluded that I would have to rate it 4 stars because of how chewy the meat was. I found myself having to work very hard to finish the last few bites. Everything looked so clean, well-organized, and inviting. The restaurant itself is lovely, with plenty of seating for a party of one or many. There is ample space for special occasions, a large bar area, a large dining room, clean bathrooms, and AMAZING staff. Every single employee welcomed us to the restaurant. Employees were very friendly, polite, hard-working, and engaging. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the "Martha Salad" while my wife had the Pozole Verde. Both were delicious, perfectly made, very tasty, and filling. The chips and salsa were so good that we ordered a second serving, which is rare for us. We plan to invite family and friends in the very near future so that we can reserve the private group area and have our own party :)

We recently tried this Mexican restaurant and unfortunately the food and drinks were very…read moredisappointing. The margaritas were honestly some of the worst we've had -- they tasted like straight margarita mix blended with ice, and we could barely drink them. The enchiladas were also very underwhelming, especially for the price. It was basically shredded chicken in tortillas with sauce, rice, and beans, and for $20 it just wasn't worth it. The food tasted very Americanized and lacked authentic Mexican flavor and seasoning. That being said, the customer service was amazing. The two ladies who helped us were incredibly attentive, kind, and kept checking on us. They offered extra drinks and multiple items, which we normally appreciate because when we go to Mexican restaurants we usually order multiple rounds and end with Cadillac margaritas. Unfortunately, the drinks were so bad we didn't want to order anything else, but their effort and service did not go unnoticed. One small disappointment was when I asked for hot sauce to add more flavor to my green sauce enchiladas, and I was brought the same red enchilada sauce instead, which made the meal worse. I am a food and beverage manager myself, and I can honestly say I would hire those two servers in a heartbeat because they were fabulous. The service was excellent -- it's just the food and drinks that really need improvement.
