Stopped here for lunch while in the area, and my wife and I were pleasantly surprised by our entire dining experience. We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened for the day. Everything looked so clean, well-organized, and inviting. The restaurant itself is lovely, with plenty of seating for a party of one or many. There is ample space for special occasions, a large bar area, a large dining room, clean bathrooms, and AMAZING staff. Every single employee welcomed us to the restaurant. Employees were very friendly, polite, hard-working, and engaging. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the "Martha Salad" while my wife had the Pozole Verde. Both were delicious, perfectly made, very tasty, and filling. The chips and salsa were so good that we ordered a second serving, which is rare for us. We plan to invite family and friends in the very near future so that we can reserve the private group area and have our own party :) read more

We recently tried this Mexican restaurant and unfortunately the food and drinks were very disappointing. The margaritas were honestly some of the worst we've had -- they tasted like straight margarita mix blended with ice, and we could barely drink them. The enchiladas were also very underwhelming, especially for the price. It was basically shredded chicken in tortillas with sauce, rice, and beans, and for $20 it just wasn't worth it. The food tasted very Americanized and lacked authentic Mexican flavor and seasoning. That being said, the customer service was amazing. The two ladies who helped us were incredibly attentive, kind, and kept checking on us. They offered extra drinks and multiple items, which we normally appreciate because when we go to Mexican restaurants we usually order multiple rounds and end with Cadillac margaritas. Unfortunately, the drinks were so bad we didn't want to order anything else, but their effort and service did not go unnoticed. One small disappointment was when I asked for hot sauce to add more flavor to my green sauce enchiladas, and I was brought the same red enchilada sauce instead, which made the meal worse. I am a food and beverage manager myself, and I can honestly say I would hire those two servers in a heartbeat because they were fabulous. Food: Subpar. Pork in burrito is not pulled meat but chopped. So it's thick and tough. Fajita does not come sizzling on a skillet plate, but is stewed! So it's soggy and not smokey in flavor. I was first introduced to this place during a Yelp party event and was so impressed by the food and atmosphere, I came back to celebrate my birthday here with a friend. I absolutely love huevos con nopales, which luckily they serve breakfast all day, but when I didn't see it on the menu at this time, I just asked for it and they delivered! It comes with rice and beans and corn tortillas and delicious as always. My friend ordered the combo of tamal, enchilada and taco - it was huge and makes great leftovers. She wouldn't let us leave without ordering dessert: flan as well as vanilla ice cream with churro-can't go wrong with either of them and in fact, a table next to us was even curious what desserts we ordered since they looked so good! Chips and salsa were complimentary and plenty! Saturday night was packed, busy and lively as many huge groups were there celebrating birthdays and such. Regardless, we didn't have to wait for a table, service was attentive and they are able to accommodate any size group you have. It's a large restaurant with a large parking lot too. We came to this location for our 1st time. We did get a good morning welcome. Sat at any open table. Food was not good at all. The only good thing was the coffee. Everything else needed flavor. The dinning area is spacious. Service was too much we had like 6 different Servicer. I did get a refill of coffee but was servered less than have. I don't recommend this place. Go to El picocito. That place is better in my own opinion. We will not go to Max. But if you want to see fake barbie go. Nasty food read more

Happen to be in the area, craving Mexican food....this is a large spacious restaurant, wide open seating if you choose the dining room on the left as you enter, but I liked the bar area. Discovered a lovely tribute mural of the iconic baseball player on a discreet corner wall. tucked into the book of the bar .. first corner booth. I'm seated at the adjacent table so to enjoy the painting and to think about the great athleticism of an athlete who broke the mold. And I know why Fernando liked to eat here...gosh the food is good, generous, authentic. I had the combination of crispy taco 5/5 with carnitas, an enchilada (shredded beef) 5/5 ad a fluffy scrumptious chile relleno 10/5. So good. My server is friendly helpful and told me it didnt cost extra to add the carne in the cheese enchilada. Attentive but not overly, checked in , dodnt have to flag. Excellent service 5/5 The manager stopped by, gave me extra napkins and we chatted about the original artwork commissioned. Big kudos to the owner for supporting local artists. Food was good and the beers were cold. They serve their burritos wet which was prime. Plenty of seating and a full bar. I went with a carnitas burrito and it was super tasty. Comes with a full plate of sides too. More than enough to eat and took some home. There is plenty of parking around the back. I was seated right away on a Saturday night which was nice. read more

This was my first visit to this location. I saw an announcement on social media inviting the community to meet Artist Ryan Burch. A mural of former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, Fernando Valenzuela was to be unveiled on November 12th. I want to THANK the owners, who prepared a huge celebration, with Mariachi musicians and singers. They dedicated an area in one of their dining rooms to permanently display the beautiful mural. It was like a collage that highlighted the career and accomplishments of #34 Fernando Valenzuela. We also sampled their delicious food and drinks. It was a full house as Dodger fans from the area turned out for this event. A great time to honor and remember an athlete who gave so much to Los Angeles. Buyer beware! Been coming here on and off for 10 years and tonight was the first time in a couple of years. Took my husband and 2 kids for dinner and when we got the bill we were charged for the 2 additional margaritas. When we brought up the issue to the server after reviewing our bill, no apology was given and then I had to explain multiple times that I was over charged. After the bill was finally corrected, the server just hands the bill to us, still no apology. I had to ask for the manager and explain the poor customer service that I experienced. I understand mistakes occur but, I had to call a manager for anyone to take accountability. And let me be clear only the manager took accountability, the servers offered excuses. Met up with friends that go here regularly- but it was our first time. The chips came out nice and warm and the salsa tasted yummy and homemade. I got 2 fish tacos with a side of pinto beans and it was so good. I couldn't finish half my plate because the portions were decent and because the chips and salsa were addicting- or maybe I was so hungry over indulged on the chips! Came for lunch on a Saturday, it wasn't busy at first but soon more people showed. and as we entered we were greeted at the front and we had a voice of seating anywhere unoccupied. We chose a booth and the server was very nice and attentive. They seated us, gave us the menus, took our drink order and handed us chips and salsa (a little spicy) immediately. Since we had plans in an hour, we ordered a wet carne asada burrito combination and a steak fajita combination. Both plates come with rice, beans, and guacamole. The steak fajitas had some side salad and flour or corn tortillas. The burrito had sour cream. The fajita dish had a hot plate (very hot!) with peppers and onions. Very delicious and glad it was big portions. Be careful with the pan, I accidentally burnt my wrist a little bit trying to eat everything all at once like I was starving. It looked so good. Our favorite was the wet burrito, the flavor is great with cheese everywhere. Very big portions as well which I'm glad since we can share both plates. The place is very decorative and traditional like. Feels like it'll be a great place for gatherings and parties. My family and I have been customers at the Monrovia location for many years. Always delicious food, friendly staff, and good service. Today was an experience I hope never to have again. Decided to take newcomers for a wonderful meal, only to receive the worst service. Our server took almost 10min to take our order. Never returned to give more water/coffee, and it wasn't even crowded. Stumbled across Max's while car shopping in the area. Upon entering, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We were able to pick our seat and grabbed a booth. They immediately brought chips and salsa. The Salsa was some of the best I've had, so delicious!! We decided on the fajitas supreme which consisted of beef, chicken and shrimp. It arrived to our tables sizzling with lots of veggies which we enjoyed! It came with a side plate of beans, rice and guacamole. Everything was delicious!!! All the staff was attentive and checked in with us but not in an overwhelming way, they really just wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. They refilled our chips and salsa and we devoured our lunch. Our server, a young man, was very friendly!! Everyone was! In an observation, this place would be ideal for larger groups or parties as the areas have big groupings for tables. If you sit near the bar area, there are ample tvs to watch if that's what you're looking for. I'm curious if they have any HH specials. But nonetheless, when we're back on the area, we'll definitely eat at Max's again! read more

We live in the area for a couple of years and our neighbors always get a drink and eat here so it's time that we try. And yes they were right! Good drinks and we enjoyed our food with friendly service (which hard to find nowadays). I was in a mood for the whole tilapia and wasn't disappointed at all. A waitress greeted us with chips and salsa in hand and we were seated right away on a recent weekday lunch! The pico de gallo salsa was perfect for me since I can't eat spicy food, but if you want something with heat I'm sure you can request it. I got the flautas lunch combo with rice and beans. It also comes with veggie soup and a side salad with guacamole and sour cream. To be honest I was already so full with my soup along with all the chips and salsa that I couldn't stop eating. I did enjoy the chicken flautas but I took 2/3 of it home! Our food came out quickly and the busboy even gave me an extra container of salsa to go without asking! So nice of him! My coworker friend has been to Max's before and she always ordered the enchiladas. Great friendly service and food comes out quickly! Very good food & fast Service, yet super expensive for a Family Mexican Restaurant. Food was similar in price to some places in Vegas on the strip - $23.00+ for Fajitas. TVs in Bar area are in an awkward postion to view games, so your neck gets sore watching the screens. I have been twice in the last 3 weeks both times, I had order one drink both times bartender put 2 on my tab - Very odd... It is next to a Mosque so Parking was difficult during Ramadan, I guess worshipers use their Lot. Kinda bummed out because I heard they have exception food at Max's. read more

I ate here today with my family. We ordered fajitas supremas (steak, shrimp, and chicken), bowl of fideo, beef flautas, kids chicken nachos, and kids chicken taquitos. The fajitas were absolutely horrible. Fajitas usually come sizzling but everything looked dehydrated as if it had been reheated in a microwave. On top of that it had no flavor whatsoever. The flautas had zero flavor as well. For each bite I found myself adding their watery guacamole and lime with salt just to have some flavor. Usually when I order flautas all I need to do is dip it in guacamole and that's enough. My daughter did not like her taquitos and when I taste tested it I noticed it had a very artificial flavor, kind of like the frozen taquitos you would purchase at a grocery store. The kids nachos seemed fine, it's just melted cheese and some shredded chicken. The chipotle margarita was very bad, there's no way it's supposed to be made that way. The tropical sangria was good, no complaints there. Usually we like to bring out leftovers home but the food was so disappointing that we didn't care for any of it. The waitress was pretty forgetful and had to keep coming back to confirm what we ordered. I understand it can be hard to remember things if you are busy but you should write it down in that case.
