We came here for a bite to eat. We had a plate of birria with rice and beans plus a carne asada burrito. This is good fast food Mexican, fresh and tasty. They have wide variety to choose from.

Tacos and Papas has become a favorite of mine ever since visiting for the first time a couple of months ago. The owner Miguel, his wife Sylvia and their family who all work there are so gracious and provide not just excellent service but delicious tacos, aguas and the best champurrado you've ever had! My family have eaten here almost weekly since we've tried it out so it's definitely become a go to when hanging out on Myrtle in Monrovia. Our favorites; the birria, asada anything, and tortas, Jamaica agua (with a delightful raspberry addition) and of course the champurrado. We are excited to try more of the menu but it's just so hard to deviate from our favorites.

It's has a casual rustic vibe. The food was not bad all. You order and pay when you get there. They bring out the food to you. The man who took our order very kind and friendly. This is the kind of place that says, come hang out, have some food take your time and relax. I like their vibe definitely coming back. Ohhhhh... the portions are generous.

Great food and amazing cucumber lime aqua fresca. Indoor and outdoor seating, which is great with a dog. Taco Tuesday deal was great. One kid LOVED the steak tacos. He had 2, then wanted 2 more. Mom said, let's wait because we will probably get ice cream and he said he'd rather have tacos! LOL! My chicken tostada was delicious. The chicken was so flavorful and tender. The fish tacos, al pastor tacos and cheese quesadillas were all a big hit! Very friendly service. Street parking. Definitely want to return.

I was walking down the street hoping to find a spot to grab lunch at and this cutely decorated space caught my attention! Walking in, you can smell in the air the grilling of meat and other yummy scents. I decided to try out one of their specials that they had advertised at the entrance: their Grilled Quesa Birria Sandwich, which was super delicious! There was a bit of a wait of 10-15 minutes, but thankfully I was still able to enjoy my lunch. I was delighted at the fact that the fries and the consomme were included! The sandwich was THICK, juicy, and even had three crisp slices of bread! I've never had a birria sandwich and thought the idea was so amazing! The crispy bread absorbed the consomme well, and I was so happy with how it tasted!! - salsa station - no bathroom - indoor and outdoor seating - street parking (not metered!)

Senior citizen reporting: tacos, and papas, wow wow! I've been walking by this place for about a year., so glad today was the day! Outside seating in front, the interior decorations were fun and inviting! Huge menu! My friend had the chicken burrito, it was large and tasty! I ordered the quesadilla and the sweet corn in a cup! The quesadilla and sweet corn in the cup was big enough to share with several people! The food was delicious! The place was very clean, the menu board, large and easy to read, the food staff was really friendly! Not only having great food to eat we felt very comfortable. Check out the pictures. I highly recommend this place!

We've walked past this cute restaurant in downtown Monrovia so many times and finally decided to give it a try and we're so glad we did! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which we really liked. The setup is simple: you order at the counter and then grab a table. The service was wonderful, very friendly and welcoming. The menu is impressively large, with all the Mexican food classics you could think of. I decided on the grilled fish bowl, which came with salad, rice, and refried beans. Everything was fresh and delicious, and I was really happy with my choice. Highly recommended! We'll definitely be back to try more of their dishes.

Cool Mexican food spot in Monrovia with an Ensenada flare. Saw the Taco Tuesday special sign out side and had walked by the place a few times but stopped to try today. The owner was super welcoming and hospitable, he gave us his favorite recommendations and patiently waited until we explored all the options. We decided to try three of their tacos; potato's, asada and pastor. They were all delicious, our daughter tried their agua de Jamaica, but it has a twist from the original. They add fresh berries inside, it paired well with the hibiscus taste. We also tried their birria dinner plate which came with bean, rice, tortillas, pickled onions and other garnishes. Everything was fresh and very delicious, will def come back again and try some of the other things that intrigued us like the esquite bomb. The owner stated they have the best atole, so we gave it a try. He was not lying, perfectly sweetened, not too thick and they serve it in a tall cup. A must try, fuego

I stumbled across Tacos and Papas after a quick Yelp search for "Taco Tuesday specials" and it did not disappoint. When we arrived, we were greeted by a bubbly woman who shared all of their specials. We opted for their loaded fries with Brussels sprouts, 4 potato tacos (special), along with 2 carne asada and 2 carnitas tacos. I'll admit it. Potatoes have a special place in my heart and stomach. I went hard on the loaded fries and potato tacos that I didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the carne asada and carnitas tacos, but they were fantastic. We also discovered that they offer Brussels sprouts tacos and will definitely be back for that delight. It wasn't too busy for a Tuesday evening but there were several parties around us. Their space is incredibly welcoming and showed the baseball game while we enjoyed our dinner inside. Outdoor seating available as well. Their staff was so thoughtful as they offered to make an additional order after last call for a man with two kids. The woman mentioned that they'll be having pozole starting on Friday since it wasn't too popular with the scorching summer we had. Looking forward to returning! She also frequently checked in on us and when she noticed we were slowing down, she offered us take out containers with salsa and brought them to us. So nice! Note: $3.99 beers, 15% off tacos on Taco Tuesday. Must try their quesa-birria sandwich!

Summary: 4 stars for great service, good food, good price, and trendy presentation. Note that the food is filling, but quite oily. Quality can be inconsistent. *** Tacos and Papas is a small restaurant with limited indoor and outdoor seating for parties of 2-4. I liked the hip wooden aesthetic with taco-related puns written on the walls. Their menu was larger than expected, offering tacos, tortas, burritos, bowls, and more. Additional items, such as sangria and a 5-taco-and-1-beer special, were displayed on handwritten signs at the cash register. Extra servings of their housemade spicy red salsa and vinegary green salsa were located to the left of the register. I preferred the red salsa since the flavor was more complex. SERVICE My bf and I visited twice in the past year on a busy lunch weekend and on a weeknight at 5:30 pm. The cashiers/front of house staff were outstandingly friendly. They chatted sweetly with the locals and treated us kindly. We ordered and paid up front, noting a 50 cent charge for the credit card transaction. Water was self-serve towards the middle of the restaurant. When finished, we bussed our own table and brought our trays to the return station. DRINKS/FOOD ORDERED - Corona Premier ($5). I enjoyed a bottle of this light beer served with lime. It's only 90 cal. Gotta make room for everything else! - Carne Asada taco ($2.98). The steak was soft with a pleasant grilled flavor. - Potato taco ($2.95). The taco was fried to a golden brown, topped with iceberg slaw, pickled onion, crema, and crumbled cheese. Unfortunately, I disliked how the slaw dressing soaked into the tortilla. It became soggy and fell apart easily. The potato filling was like a rustic mash, but it was a bit mealy and needed more salt. It tasted better with the red salsa. - Birria taco ($3.65). Two layers of street taco-sized corn tortillas fried in consomme and topped with beef birria, white onion, and cilantro. My fingers were drenched in oil after picking it up. I appreciated the additional radish and pickled onion. The flavor of the meat was good, but a little dry. I dipped it in my bf's side of consomme, which improved the taste. - Quesa-birria taco ($4.55). A birria taco fried in cheese, with even more cheese inside, served with radish and lime. Naturally, my tray ended up soaked in oil. The beef was tender and shredded into good sized chunks. At first, I made the mistake of not stirring the consomme. The beef flavor had settled to the bottom, with the chile-flavored liquid on top. Once I stirred the consomme, the flavors balanced out and tasted amazing. I ate the small bits of beef at the bottom and drank the rest of my cup! - Loaded Al Pastor Fries ($14.95 - small). The employee chuckled at our reaction when this massive plate reached the table. The thin cut fries stayed crispy under the mountain of al pastor pork, refried beans, crema, nacho cheese, pico de gallo, cilantro, radish, pickled onion, and guacamole. The umami drizzle of refried beans blended into the nacho cheese like some fort of hybrid sauce. I enjoyed the flavor of the al pastor; it was different. The warm spices were accented by a light sweetness reminding me of grape or raisin. I wasn't surprised by the pool of oil at the bottom, but perhaps the fries could have been drained for longer before plating.

One time I ordered 4 tacos, 1 burrito, a drink and churros and it took them longer than 25 minutes to be ready. The people who dined in that were behind me in line were served first. This defeats the purpose of takeout... also they burnt the heck out of my churros and still have them to me like that. Their employees are rude especially the girl with the fake red hair. She' s vulgar talking to coworkers instead of customers and a rude attitude. She was rude with an attitude when asked her about drink prices (not on the menu) and a question about the salsa bar . She made me feel like I was a bothering her after spending over $50 in their establishment. The way she behaves makes you think she owns the business. Another thing is that they don't listen or pay attention to your order. Both in person and for delivery they end up messing up your order. It was simple no onions on 3 tacos and they always mess up my son's food. Now I have an angry and hungry little kid on top of the experience. I keep going back because their food is good and kind of hope to have a better experience. I don't I'll go back, it's a shame but it's not worth it anymore. Gave this place many chances to support a small business but they don't reciprocate the love back. This place could be a 5 star but their employees hinder the restaurant back from being that.

Everything looked so clean, well-organized, and inviting. The restaurant itself is lovely, with plenty of seating for a party of one or many. There is ample space for special occasions, a large bar area, a large dining room, clean bathrooms, and AMAZING staff. Every single employee welcomed us to the restaurant. Employees were very friendly, polite, hard-working, and engaging. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the "Martha Salad" while my wife had the Pozole Verde. Both were delicious, perfectly made, very tasty, and filling. The chips and salsa were so good that we ordered a second serving, which is rare for us. We plan to invite family and friends in the very near future so that we can reserve the private group area and have our own party :)

The margaritas were honestly some of the worst we've had -- they tasted like straight margarita mix blended with ice, and we could barely drink them. The enchiladas were also very underwhelming, especially for the price. It was basically shredded chicken in tortillas with sauce, rice, and beans, and for $20 it just wasn't worth it. The food tasted very Americanized and lacked authentic Mexican flavor and seasoning. That being said, the customer service was amazing. The two ladies who helped us were incredibly attentive, kind, and kept checking on us. They offered extra drinks and multiple items, which we normally appreciate because when we go to Mexican restaurants we usually order multiple rounds and end with Cadillac margaritas. Unfortunately, the drinks were so bad we didn't want to order anything else, but their effort and service did not go unnoticed. One small disappointment was when I asked for hot sauce to add more flavor to my green sauce enchiladas, and I was brought the same red enchilada sauce instead, which made the meal worse. I am a food and beverage manager myself, and I can honestly say I would hire those two servers in a heartbeat because they were fabulous. The service was excellent -- it's just the food and drinks that really need improvement.
