Growing up in the 626, my family always came here for celebrations and milestones. Cabrera's is perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, and after-funeral food. The servers are always very kind, patient, and attentive. The chips are warm and the food knocks it out of the park every single time. We went to Cabrera's early on a Friday night, expecting it to be quiet but we knew that notion was out the door as soon as we entered the parking lot. It was packed and despite having a reservation, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our table. But once inside, the service was friendly and the fiesta ambiance was set to high. They have an extensive menu and it was hard to decide what to get. We settled on a steak, chicken fajitas, chicken mole, and guacamole. All were decent except for the steak. It was cooked well done and was flavorless. The sauce for the accompanying enchilada lacked any depth and was under seasoned. I think the stars at Cabrera's are the fajitas and molcajetes, both are quite impressive. All in all it was a fun experience but parking was a bit sketchy at this location so we'll probably hit one of their other locations next time. read more

Service is great and so is the food. The restaurant is not very big but busy and they also celebrated many birthdays while we were there. It's nice , however, a bit overwhelming. My son has autism and he had a very difficult time with all the flashing lights and extremely loud sounds. Once is ok but this time we had 4! I think the celebration should continue but maybe not too many flashing lights,(which could also be a problem to someone with seizure disorders). I'm born and raised in Los Angeles, and am used to a melty cheese sort of enchilada served with beans and rice, not potatoes and broccoli. However, I will say it was still tasty and felt like healthy eating (although I was prepared for something heartier). The chips and salsa were addicting! The restaurant is on the smaller side but has plenty of seating (booths and tables). There's also patio/outside seating. I tried their 'Chimichanga' burrito with grilled steak. Food tasted good with fresh ingredients and portions are generous. Service was amazing. Shout out to our server, 'Jasmine' who was extremely attentive and welcoming. A family having lunch was celebrating a birthday, and the restaurant went above and beyond to make it special. Staff was friendly the restaurant is nice and has TVs to watch all kinds of things, food tastes really good, but tonight the time it took to receive the food and other guests who were in the restaurant made it an interesting visit. We ordered 2 fajita plates a combination plate, and a molcajete. I know that things take time, but it wasn't that busy when we finally ordered. To receive the meal took a solid 45 mins minimum. We went through like 4 rounds of chips by the time we received the food. The combination plate was sitting in the window for a while and when it arrived it was cold, cooks should have prepared that last. Had to send it back to get reheated. In a table next to us there was a lady singing out loud, and then came to our table after they were finished and handed us candy, we were polite but we were confused and it was at the beginning of our meal. It was just an interesting night when we were trying to have a relaxing dinner. We'll be back again but hopefully it won't take so long for the food to come out. Cabreras Restaurant has 3 locations in Pasadena, Duarte and Arcadia (where I met my friends). I ordered the Cocido (beef & veggie soup) which came with a side of rice and tortillas. My friend had a burrito topped with mild red sauce and cheese. The portions are good and we had leftovers to take home. Each location has the same menu and weekly specials and monthly promotions. On Tuesday, it's Tacos alacarte and on Wednesday it is 50% off the Pollo Mostaza (grilled chicken breast in a rich and creamy mustard sauce) for the month of November. Vibe: The inside is a little on the dark/dim side but it's comfortable and clean. They offer both booths and regular table seating. It looked like people typically preferred the booths! Service: Nice and friendly! They didn't check on us super often but we sat at a table right by where the food comes out so it really doesn't matter since we could call on them if we needed to. From what I saw, they seemed like warm people who did have some friendly conversations with people who have probably frequented the restaurant. Since my mother is getting older, she gets super impressed by how others work. She kept complimenting the deft hands of the employees and their speediness!! She was mentioning it the whole time we were there. Food: Everything was super delicious! It has been a long while since I've had Mexican food and I am thoroughly pleased with the quality of Cabrera's. The chips were kept in what I assume is a heated/warming drawer? Your server will scoop out a tray for you and bring two types of salsa. They also have a pico de gallo on hand, which my mom preferred since the salsa were too hot for her. The green salsa was so yummy!! Had a tasty smoky flavor to it and a wonderful chili fragrance. I wish it was spicier but I have a high tolerance for spice so it may be just the right amount of spice for other people! Guacamole - Creamy and so rich! I love guacamole and this was a great and generous portion. My mom enjoyed using the chicharron to dip with. I do hope they mash the guac a little more next time or make sure super big chunks are gone. I went in to get a small scoop of guacamole and took out a huge piece of unmashed avocado. It was funny though and obviously doesn't change how it tastes. I would say that the guac needs a touch more salt and I love adding a squeeze of lime to my guac but this all ends up being a personal preference. I think this was a decent guac! Mole enchiladas - My favorite thing ever in Mexican cuisine is MOLE. I was super happy that this place had a soyrizo option for this dish! The mole sauce was tasty but on the sweeter side than I was expecting. I'm used to mole sauces that are more savory and fragrant cacao smell and taste versus it tasting like they used regular chocolate. While I still enjoyed and loved it all the same, the sweet taste of this mole may not sit well with others so be careful if you're not into it being sweet. The refried beans and rice on the plate were good. Two item combo - As I mentioned in the captions, this was the shredded beef hard taco option! I don't think the picture shows it well but the tacos were decently big!! We weren't expecting that so it was a bit of a surprise. I'm glad I didn't order the three for my mom. They packed the tacos with filling!! Not skimpy on the shredded beef either, even though you may not see it in the picture. The dish was also served with rice and beans like mine were. My mom told me the shredded beef tasted good, wasn't too dry, and was soft. Overall, I will definitely come back here for the green salsa and for the fact that they have soyrizo as an option! Amanda reached out right after I wrote the review to see if she could make things right and it was not until just a week ago did I decide to try this place out again and boy was I happy I did. The service was great, our waitress was so nice and friendly. The food was delicious, we ate nachos, ceviche and the shrimp agua chile. All of it was fresh and so good. The drinks were also a hit!
