    Mojarra (Al Mojo De Ajo)
    Monjan B.

Friday evening, we tried Mexican Food in Monrovia. This is my first time but few times for others. It's not big restaurant and I like the seating. They also have a lady turned on music and she also sang. Menu looks interesting with pictures to help me decide the dish. I picked Mojarra (Al Mojo De Ajo). It came with orange rice, mashed baked beans, salsa, slice of avocado, and one fried fish with a bowl of garlic butter and tortillas. I think the fish is tilapia. It was delicious. A lot of chopped garlic. Good for sharing because it was a large dish. Kid ordered Cheese Burger and Fried. I ordered can of coke and it came with an ice cold glass. Two waitresses are nice and friendly.

This was such a quant and nice atmosphere to meet with friends. Music wasn't too loud, drinks were delicious, I had the mojito and it hit the spot. I ordered a vegan burrito but the waitress brought one with cheese on accident but staff was kind enough to take it back and make me a brand new one that was so perfect, with cactus in it. Definitely would recommend coming here with friends to catch up.

This place was ok, food came out quickly so that's a plus, drinks are good. The service was good as well. The place was a bit to small, they had a band come out and play which I didn't like cause it became to loud for a small place I couldn't hear my friends and I felt uncomfortable.

Before I even walked in the restaurant the server greeted me and thanked me for walking in! I received some chips and tasty spicy salsa. The drink was an 8/10 with great flavors but I would prefer mine stronger. They offered me a sample of their ceviche on the house and it was fantastic! I will order this next time. There tacos had a lot of meat and were very tasty 10/10 would come back! Very clean restaurant as well and good Mexican music

We walked in and immediately were greeted by the wonderful woman tending to everyone. We ordered La Guerrerense michelada and my husband ordered La Sexy michelada both delicious Husband and I both ordered an asada taco. So good!!! Crispy charred meat and tortilla was also crisp. Perfection. He also ordered quesabirria tacos con consomé and the meat was so tender to perfection. He was in love with it he said "you must have some" and I tried and it did not disappoint. I ordered ceviche de camarón and it came with tostadas and mayo packets. It was so fresh and just delicious. I am very happy with my first experience at La Sexy Michelada. We will definitely come back!!! GREAT SERVICE!!!! Very Attentive!!!!

Went on a Saturday early afternoon. First time here. Only one other table was taken. The place is smaller than I imagined. I parked next door (but not their lot, oops) I ordered the michelada with the shrimp on top. It was yummy and the shrimp were huge!! I ordered the Guerrerense tacos which are basically tacos governador but OMG they were Aaamazing!! Full of flavorful garlic shrimp inside and outside! It was $22 for 3 tacos but so worth it because it was so full of delicious shrimp!! My sister ordered the coctel de camaron and it was full of nice crunchy shrimp and absolutely delicious and worth ordering! Our waitress was the sweetest, but I forgot to ask for her name. There was a manager or possibly the owner that also came by to ensure everything was ok. The service and food were great, and I will return soon!!

They don't use that shitty sweet and sour mix, a lot of syrups are made in house, they have a nice selection of spirits and the overall speakeasy vibes are immaculate. We started off with drinks, girl next door; vodka, elderflower and blackberries, a mezcal drink which I can't recall but both drinks were good! For starters we ordered the bacon wrapped dates with bleu and mascarpone cheese and tempura green beans. Our entrees for the evening were the poblano burger with side salad and the chicken breast with mushroom risotto and broccolini. There was no room for desert otherwise I would've gone with the bread pudding. This is definitely a must try if in the Monrovia area.

This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

We sat at a table by the front window facing the main drag. The area definitely has an old town feel with many restaurants and shops up and down the street. There is also a park right across the street. There is plenty of parking around the corner on the street and in a nearby lot. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. We had one more round of drinks and I had the Billionaire cocktail (Old Forrester 100 proof bourbon, lemon, house made grenadine, absinthe, $16). This was excellent. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. They have a very good sized cocktail and food menu, as well as many beers on tap. They also have happy hour specials. We would definitely return if we were in the area again.

We went on a Friday night and encountered heavy traffic from the local farmer's market/fair. The best item was the Beef kabob, 5 out of 5 stars. It was perfectly cooked, a very simply salt and pepper seasoning, juicy and simply divine! We got the kids meal, which came with only 4 pieces, and I'd be interested to return for the full adult portion. Also a 5-star experience was the Fried cauliflower appetizer. It had just the right amount of crispiness, without any blackening, and the garlic/parsley/lemon juice combo worked well. The juice was sucked into all the crevices, and overall it was light. I think I could have eaten two portions myself and called it a satisfying meal. I did dip in some tzatziki, which worked great too! Lastly the Chicken shawarma was a 4-star dish. Still delicious and I'd get it again, but it was slightly salty from the marinade and added sauce. I was expecting this to be wrapped up, but it was more an open-face naan with the chicken covering the top.
