Found my way out here after a nice morning workout looking for a breakfast burrito. Yelp reviews of this spot checked out, and so here I am. Marias is in a strip mall with plenty of parking, but lots of traffic and commerce here so it took me a bit to find a spot. Inside is small, but comfortable and tidy. Was planning on takeout, but audibled into eating there. Ordered the following: - Chorizo burrito - 7.5/10: Hefty and very tasty. You will not be hungry after this meal. Asked for their medium salsa and it delivered. Not too spicy, not too mild. Had large chunks of potatoes in it. Could've sliced them to smaller pieces, but it was fine. - Horchata - 5/10: Not the homemade stuff, but the kind that came from a commercial dispenser. Expectedly meh. Staff was friendly and polite. I hate leaving bad reviews. In fact, it's very rare when I do leave any type of negative review. This Sunday morning I decided to stop at Las Marias to try a breakfast burrito. So I walked in bright and early, greeted by the gentleman. Looked at my breakfast burrito options, noticed the $12 breakfast burrito prices. I figured, wow, should be decent size for that price. Gave you choice of bacon, sausage, and chorizo was extra. I picked bacon. Needless to say, the burrito was very small. Unusually small for burrito standards. Took it to go, got home, unpacked my burrito and it was mostly potatoes! Hardly any egg, bacon, or cheese. It was really disappointing. So, I got a tiny burrito made of mostly potato. Again, I hate leaving negative reviews and always love to support mom and pop establishments, but this made me never wanting to try this place again. Pretty good local spot for Mexican food. The chilaquiles came out hot and still crunchy, they was it should be. The menudo tasted clean and the tripe was cooked to the perfect texture. Las Maria is a true neighborhood gem, and it has earned a permanent place as my go-to spot, primarily because of one thing... their incredible house made Chile Verde. I recently stopped by for a meal where I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with their Chile Verde which is a perfect combination of tortilla chips and a fried egg topped with a hearty scoop of that chile verde. I have to be honest. This is the only thing I ever order here, whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is consistently exceptional. My family enjoyed their meals as well, my wife had their Chile Relleno plate, and my son had the Enchiladas, overall great food. Beyond the food, the experience is wonderful. A friend suggested to meet up at Las Marias for lunch. It's a good sign that most customers there are locals and tradesmen stop by for lunch. I ordered two tacos and a sope with Al pastor, asada and birria. The tacos are good size with substantial meat in there. Sope has a nice shell with the other necessary components. They are tasty like a home cooked meal that you could come back everyday. My friend's combo burrito looks really impressive. It's really big with green and red sauce on top. For $12.75, it's a really good value. I'd love to try their menudo. But like most places, they only serve it on the weekend. But the lady told me they start serving it Friday-Sunday now. I've visited Las Marias many times when I still lived closed to Monrovia. Now that I moved closer to Orange County, I still find myself going back to Las Marias for their Quesa Tacos. This has got to be BEST tasting tacos ever! They're little crispy on the outside, tender beef in the inside. Dipping the tacos in the sauce is just out of this world! I wish I knew about this place sooner because the tacos were close what I was looking for. I went around 4pm and ordered carnitas and al pastor tacos with green salsa. The carnitas were moist and tender. A bite in and the meat practically pulled itself apart. The al pastor tacos were nicely seasoned and flavorful. I loved how the chunks of meat were large. The addition of the green salsa to both tacos gave a nice kick and flavor boost. Overall, the tacos were incredible. $2.25 for each is just slightly cheaper than other taco places in Monrovia. I was craving birria tacos so i came across this place on Yelp and they did not disappoint! I was greeted as soon as i walked in, which is always appreciated. Excellent customer service and friendly folks run this place. I stopped by after being recommended by an SGV Eats post and it is very fresh and tasty. The salsa was homemade and just right. My only quibble is the bacon wasn't very good... overly salty and cheap. I'll be sure to come back and try their other dishes though because that was the only thing that wasn't excellent. I came for the Birria tacos and they did not disappoint! This came out to be $13 an order for 4 tacos with consume! That's such a deal considering other places are charging at least $16. It was very meaty and the tacos were super crispy. There was a decent amount of cheese but it wasn't overwhelming. The consume was decent but I just felt like it was lacking something. I didn't get any limes or salsa with my order so I felt like that was what it was missing. Definitely ask for that when ordering! This is a small mom and pop spot with excellent service. The food is fantastic! I've been here twice, once for their quezatacos and now for their combination burrito with a coworker. My coworker's words to me after we finished were: "Why didn't you tell me about this place sooner?" Sorry, bud. The lady at the register taking our order was very friendly and let us know about their in-house aguas frescas flavors, which were super refreshing in this heat. At the time of writing, I believe they had a watermelon and a pineapple/cucumber/mint. Apparently, they do different flavors depending on the season and whatnot, so go ask about it. There was a moment where the chef had noticed my coworker couldn't finish the massive combo burrito, so he walked over and offered up a to-go box without even us needing to ask. It was real kind.
