I thought the food, service, value and atmosphere were all pretty great. Good for families, couples, or groups of friends, from what I can see. We had the squid with roasted fingerlings, mac and cheese, and the hake over melted leeks and roasted shiitakes. All delicious. The syrah (biodynamic) was lovely and $5 at happy hour! Waitress was friendly, helpful and forthcoming but never intrusive. Stopped again on New Year's Eve for dessert. Creme Brulee to die for (orange/thyme flavours) and flourless chocolate cake with (unfortunately) too much sea salt on top. Brushed it off and enjoyed every bite. I ordered a Reuben and asked for American instead of Swiss cheese. The obnoxious waitress (Eve M) rolled her eyes , shot me a dirty look and stated they don't 'do substitutions' . When I politely pointed out that Hamilton's has been quite accommodating in the past, she then proceeded to tell me 'what's going to happen is that we will put American cheese on it and then you'll return it because you will say you won't like it!' Ummmm...who does this bizzle think she is !? Last I checked, me and the hussy have never met so surely she doesn't know what I like and don't like. Regardless, the interaction would have been fine if she left it with the 'no substitutions' comment, but she preceded into the realm of overt rudeness. I used to go here and sit in the (very expansive) patio area with my dog to enjoy a beer or two, but suddenly I am now being turned away because they now have a "no dogs" policy, even outdoors in the unfenced sidewalk portion. Grateful for this place to be in the neighborhood but the menu is somewhat boring. Somehow it bothers me that the place does not serve fries. The potato wedges were dry and the burger mediocre at best. We also had to wait a long time for our food to be served (40 minutes) and even then they did not bring it out together. Went here for brunch. It was a gorgeous fall day so we sat outside, which was nice. Waitress takes our order and we sit back and enjoy the morning. 15 minutes goes by and a man sits next to us. He asks the waitress if he can order, she says no and goes inside. 5 minutes later someone else comes out and takes his order. She explains vaguely that there were some technical issues inside and that some of the menu is limited. She then asks us if we are all set (we say yes because we already ordered assumed that the food was taking a while because of whatever technical issue they were experiencing). Another 10 minutes later and we still don't have our cappuccino or my beer. They bring out the food for the guy sitting next to us. We flag the waitress down and ask what the deal was. She apologized and said they were having issues. So we said, well what about the coffee? "Well the espresso machine is broken." She then asks about what we ordered (eggs Benedict) and then goes on to explain that that item wasn't available either because of the technical issues (eggs Benedict machine broken?). We complain that how could they let us sit here for over half an hour knowing full well that they wouldn't be able to place any of our orders...never once notifying im us that it wasn't available. She half heartedly apologized and stated that she DID ask if we were all set before.... The menu was ordinary. Nothing spectacular. Beer list was average. Ambiance was mediocre. Hamilton's is a great local place to eat. The Inside lighting could be moved up a notch, but it is what it is. However, the Bar area has high stools without backs, and we hate sitting at a bar that we cannot lean back and relax while eating - so uncomfortable. We opted to sit at a table instead. Our waitress was fantastic and friendly she gave us great suggestions on what to order. We shared the Delicious Veggie Burger that was fresh with cheese and grilled onions with a side of fried potatoes. We would come back here if we are ever in this area again. read more

It took my friend 25 minutes to get a glass of wine while the waitress hung on the table of two hipster dudes, flashing her tramp stamp. BOTH times i had to get up and find my server, who was sitting at the bar??? and acted totally put-upon. Food was okay, but that's about as much as I can say. My family had been to Hamilton's at least three or four times previously, the last time being thanksgiving. We live in the neighborhood and for Christmas Eve we chose to dine there as well. I called them two weeks ahead of time to let them know. I emailed back and forth with the owner. I even called on Christmas Eve to let them know we would be arriving one hour late due to traffic that a family member who lives in Long Island was experiencing. We got there around 6:00, was seated and gave our orders. For about an hour and a half we sat there wondering where the hell our appetizers were! No server or anyone came in that time to check on us, not for water not for bread, nothing. Finally, some appetizers were brought out and a small bowl of bread that they could have offered during the almost two hours that we were waiting. There were six of us. Two of us never got our meals until three hours later and by that time, one of us cancelled theirs. I took mine to go. My appetite was pretty killed at this point and it was so late-every other diner was long gone. What dishes they did bring out, were wrong as well. I still can't believe we sat there almost two hours with absolutely no service. No one came at all. Not to tell us anything, ask us anything, bring us bread and water. The really fucked out part is that they charged us a ridiculous amount for what little we got after the whole ordeal. Lastly, it was the servers who came out and not a manager or supervisor or anyone else. Woke up feeling sick due to the fact that all I ate was bread, mussels( the appetizer that came out almost two hours later) and the crappy wine. I've never in my life experienced this. Apparently, they were filling all their delivery orders and neglecting the diners who were there because every time I got up to go the restroom I saw them and the server who kept apologizing and oh yeah brought food left behind by other diners, said they had orders they were filling and were overwhelmed by. I understand being overwhelmed and I'm glad Hamilton's had so much business but how on earth do you let diners sit there that long without any service?! read more

Did my daughters baptism brunch here, December 10th. We were a group of 12. A menu was set up. Service was excellent. Food was amazing. They were able to accommodate that we brought in our own cake, they held it for us, cut it and served it. The staff was super helpful. The restaurant was clean and overall I was beyond happy with our choice to do it at Hamiltons. I ordered an ella Fitzgerald sandwich, orange juice and coffee and it was delish. Hamilton's is a great addition to lower Windsor Terrace, which is suddenly becoming a destination. First the bar. A great selection of draft beers and terrific, friendly bartenders. Finally -- FINALLY! -- a place to sit and enjoy a beer in the neighborhood around Ft. Hamilton Parkway Station. Simply being able to have a beer in a nice atmosphere with nice bartenders at my own subway stop is a pleasure. The food. Everything I've had here so far has been terrific. I've had the Farro Salad twice, and I have to say that this may be the best green salad I've ever had in my life. So simple and yet so satisfying. I really enjoyed the Kimchi Fried Rice, both because it's so unusual for bar food but also because it's just really good. And tonight I had the roast chicken, which was roasted dark meat with carrots, potatoes and radishes in a sweet glaze sauce. Really delicious. The prices are completely reasonable for this neighborhood. The restaurant is completely kid-friendly at hours you'd expect kids to be in a restaurant and then feels more like an adult bar after kid-bedtime. Just such a nice addition to the neighborhood, and excellent for what it is -- a good neighborhood bar & dinner place. Being pitch-perfect for this area is why it gets five stars. read more

We came here because Atlas steakhouse wouldn't sit us because I was wearing khaki shorts. Their dress code is no "cut off" shorts, their loss!! We live in Queens and were deep in Bkln at this point and went to Yelp for help! They were at 3/4 capacity on a Wednesday night, great sign. White wine was very cold, huge plus as I usually add ice. The crostini with spicy olive tapenade topped with goat cheese and smoked salmon was one of the best apps I have ever eaten! My spicy shrimp over polenta was dynamite and wife loved the jerk chicken. So glad the pretentious d-bags at Atlas refused us. The only negative was the outside tables provide little leg room (6' and 245lbs) and the seats weren't very comfortable. We came here on the snowy first day of Spring and it was packed! That's not too uncommon for a Friday night at 8pm. There are a few too many kids for my liking, but that has nothing to do with the establishment. My wait time was short. The staff was attentive and my burger was delicious. We started with the Kale Salad and Deviled eggs. The wine list is just right and the specialty cocktails were varied and looked delicious! They even have a ton of beers on tap. Nestled in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Hamilton's is a GEM! My boyfriend and I are EXTREMELY happy that we finally made our way in. Not only do they have Happy Hour drinks (5 - 6:30) but also a Happy Hour food menu! The $5 Cabernet's were excellent in taste. The spicy muscles appetizer made my nose run in a delightful way. The mac and cheese with bacon is THE BEST I've EVER had and the grass fed beef burgers are mindblowingly DELICIOUS! The poppyseed bun it's served on is melt in your mouth buttery goodness. The burgers are served with potato wedges. Although they are well made, we really would have loved a crispy fry or even onion ring served with it instead (hence the one star removal). I implore the chef or owner to please, please...give it major consideration, please. Desserts were also very good. Bf had the flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. I love this place. It's so homely and welcoming, the fairy lights outside are great. I go here with the same group of people each time, and we always have a fab time. And it's so reasonably priced! Decided to come here with a friend on a whim one day and boy were we in for a special treat! They have a fantastic selection of draught beers (It's draught, not draft, just saying), so that's always a plus. Now let's get onto the food. While this is my very first yelp review, it does not mean that I haven't been exploring the amazing fare this city has to offer. Just a week before going to Hamilton's, I decided to head over to Minetta Tavern and try their black label burger. Now this burger was alright, but personally I feel Hamilton's grass fed burger completely killed it in the burger department. The fries also were perfectly delightful, with that nice exterior shell of fried goodness. We also got the mac&cheese, which was a perfect al dente, though it could've been more seasoned, still not bad at all. Another great side were the Brussel sprouts. Perfectly caramelized and as perfect as Brussel sprouts can be. It's definitely a most underrated vegetable and boy were they fantastic. Now where Hamilton's really made me happy were their desserts.. Oh man, those desserts were great. We had a flour-less chocolate cake, which was nice and rich. The raspberry syrup sauce was my only problem with the dessert dish. The fruit element tasted a bit artificial, which was a downer, but the cake was exactly what a flour-less cake was supposed to be; dense and very rich. The only reason to go to this place is because it's close to home. Every time I go there I regret it. The staff is perfectly friendly but the food is very sad. Small portions, sometimes hot, sometimes cold. Broke down one morning and got take out breakfast that came with rotten fruit. I so wish this place were good, but it just isn't. read more

Hamilton's has become my new go to neighborhood spot. I am obsessed with their kale salad, adore their mussels, and am really really into their shrimp and polenta. Also! There is a stray feral cat who has taken to hanging out by the outdoor tables and all of the waitstaff are very kind to him/her/them and were cool with us ordering a side of chicken to give to him.
