In the past year I still haven't figured out what I'm going to get when I walk in here. Is it going to be Loud Bar? Is it going to be Quiet Restaurant? Will it be Children's Playtime? Or Live Music? I've seen every single one of these renditions of the place and have walked away without even going in depending on which one I happen upon. The food is fine and it has a good beer list, but I'd prefer to know what I was getting rather than just lucking out dependent on the day and time I arrive. A little diversity is good but it's probably a good idea to choose an identity at this point. read more

It's understood that there aren't may choices in this area, but for dinner, I would take a train or long walk for something better. Enjoy a beer here but don't spend Manhattan prices for mediocre food. It's on the bland side to be polite. Our "Smoke Trout salad" was cheap with the smoked trout and all the other items that made it up were flavorless. Although the burger was fresh, it lacked seasoning. The server was very pleasant however, to the degree that we did not want to complain at all. We were looking to stay local for a bite, so I suggested Hamiltons for a light lunch. Although we are all family, at the same table, our orders couldn't have gotten more diverse as the menus allowed.. Mom went with the Mushroom Orzo.. Very tasty, creamy, and full of flavor.. The crispy onions really add a nice texture component to thus dish.. Sister went with the Smoked Salmon Toasts.. Absolutely loved it. Very large portion too, not too common when smoked salmon is involved.. It was excellent. I went for the Reuben Sandwich.. House made products are usually top notch IMHO, or why would they bother making them.. and Hamilton's did not disappoint.. The corned beef was unbelievable, almost a sin to serve in a sandwich, but along with the crispy bread, tart sauerkraut, and cheese, made this sandwich awesome. This place can be awesome! Their waitstaff is wonderful, their drinks are good, their location makes them top-dog, but their menu is awful! I don't know when it became acceptable to offer tasteless airplane food and serve it up with an explanation that the reason why this food should be coveted is because it was brought to this normal neighborhood on the back of a child who has row-boated from the Canary Islands and then artisinally prepared by their award winning refugee-chef who has used smoke signals to induce a warming effect over the Pacific Ocean which in turn allows the child labor-brought meat to slowly braise. Explanations are bullshit, your product should just be good. And also, stop changing your limited menu to cater to the faux-foodies of the neighborhood! You had simple stuff that was tasty...just leave it alone! read more

Good selection of beer: different styles, not just twenty lagers or IPA's. Food is really good too! The kimchi really hit the spot. (Yeah. Kimchi in a bar. Sweet.) Waitstaff is relaxed but know what they're doing. Definitely come back. read more

Brought my parents here on a Saturday about 11:30am. Service was stellar. The right amount of chatter and friendliness. Very attentive when my coffee was low and my mother could use more hot water for her tea. Great kale salad. (I wish there were more options for vegans on the menu, though.) This is my solid go-to place in the neighborhood, good for any meal of the day. It's good for meat eaters and vegetarians. Somehes are ok, and some are delicious. The biscuits are exceptional. It's a nice place to eat, and has an outdoor section when the weather is nice. read more

Stopped here a few times during the course of a housesitting gig. Joe behind the bar was very nice and welcoming. I thought the beer selection was good, and the service at the bar (I never sat anywhere else) was always on point. I tried one entree dish and it was fine - nothing extraordinary. And I tried the pretzel baked with truffel cheddar and then accompanied by beer cheese. Which, I mean, it was delicious based on the description alone. Here is a bready product with a cheesy dip. Stopped in here today on a whim for brunch, not terribly crowded and the service was pleasant and quick. French toast, slab bacon, biscuits & gravy and coffee more than filled up the two of us plus a 18 month old (they have high chairs!) - and it was all delicious! So- my roomie and I had expired white wine in our apartment that was slightly better than the white wine here, please (I beg you) get better wine. Otherwise, staff was friendly. Prices were high. My boyfriend and I have been going to Hamilton's for a while and we really love the ambiance. However, the other day we went inside and had a drink with a meal and then we wanted to order another drink and take it to the outside seating area Our server was humble and said "ofcourse".Two minutes later, the hostess (tall blonde lady with a slight accent), who is always there and always sees us eating and drinking there, told us to move to the other side of the outside seating. Her excuse was that the servers won't come out to our side (we have sat there plenty of times). She did apologize and gave us a free chocolate cake, but we sat in the crowded area. First of all, the staff is very friendly and welcoming, and they make all different kinds of people feel welcome and appreciated. Then there's the wide beer selection, which seems lovingly chosen. I often come to Hamilton's after work to unwind. Then, when I'm too comfortable to take myself home to make dinner, I rely on their kale salad, mac & cheese and bacon, and burger. Their "Ella Fitzgerald" brunch sandwich is also over-the-top delicious. They've offered great live music; they projected all the WC games -- Hamilton's is a neighborhood gem. read more

Writing this hungry, as I just got back from my fist time here, and after waiting for over an hour-and a half (seriously!) our food NEVER came. The waitress was nice, the atmosphere pleasant, but something definitely seems wrong in the kitchen. We did notice at one point that none of the tables in the restaurant had food (at 7.30 pm), which lasted for about 45 minutes, then we saw some food going to delivery and going to our neighbors (who arrived a half hour later), but it never came to our table. The waitress blamed it on being a busier Monday (labor day) than usual, but with three people in the kitchen, one bar person and two waitressess, and a pleasantly full, but not crowded place, I'd say there is some logistics issue going on here. I would have gone back, as the place felt mellow and pleasant, but after reading more reviews about similar issues, I probably won't. read more

The food menu is short, awful and caters to those that lack taste buds. It truly tastes like hospital food. Our whole family loves Hamilton's, but this review is really by my nearly seven year old kid. I'm just transcribing what he was saying last night in the restaurant. Note that his joy for Hamilton's burger (the regular one, not kids menu) is shared by everyone I've been there with. Kid: OH MY GOD this burger is so good that if you told me I could never come to Hamilton's again and have a burger then I'd really just want to die. Parent: honey, you know there's an expression for that--"it's to die for." Kid: YES! THIS BURGER IS TO DIE FOR. [one minute and five bites pass by...] Kid: Oh this burger is so good! Do you know how good? The only thing wrong with Hamilton's is that they do nothing wrong at all and so if you're looking for something to be done wrong well they've really done that wrong! I've eaten here a few times during my stays with a friend who lives in the area. The service is always excellent and the waitresses are extremely friendly. I went here for drinks one night and I was excited they served cider (I can't remember which kind) but disappointed in their lack of late night bar food. However, when I've gone here for brunch and lunch, both times their food has been excellent. I highly recommend the BLTA (a BLT w/ avocado) served on a baguette. It was delicious!! A friend of mine for brunch once got their french toast and it is thicker than most french toast and looked delicious. Overall I would really rate this restaurant highly and I will continue to go there whenever I'm visiting my friend who lives close by. read more

I'm a newcomer to these parts. I moved to this area, 2006, when we didn't even think a restaurant would be possible. I was so excited for this place but disappointed with it all. I've gone there 4-5 times now & that is it. Place is WAY too expensive. I guess the owners figure they can charge a lot since there is no competition. If you don't eat meat, good luck. Had dinner here last night - absolutely loved it and thrilled to have it as our local! We had the squid, scallop crudo, wings, chicken pot pie with morcilla, and the steak, plus a couple of soju cocktails and a carafe of the lovely Greek red wine. The food was really delicious (especially the scallops, wings and chicken pot pie) and very reasonably priced. The restaurant was packed which was great to see, but we were seated quickly. I was really looking forward to trying this place because, as many others have said, there aren't many good options in Kensington to have a meal out - let alone a drink! Speaking of drinks, the 1st thing you should know is that they do not have or serve hard liquor. Some weird law about being across the street from a church. Just a heads up - beer, wine and soju are all you get. I went on a Sunday afternoon, not realizing that we'd get the brunch menu and that was the 1st disappointment. If you don't want breakfast, you don't have many other options (and 1 of those we were informed was not available that day), but this forgivable considering it's "brunch" and my mistake. The food wasn't anything special though and overpriced. I had the salmon toast ($9) and it was okay. My friend had the burger which he said was greasy ($14 with cheese - yikes). The staff was friendly but service was spotty. We waited awhile for drink refills and even longer to get the check after our plates were cleared. We actually had to go find our server. By the end, the place got a little busier but it felt like we were forgotten about. Some good things about the place though are 1) the Bloody Mary; 2) outdoor seating; 3) beer selection; 4) overall nice space.
