Been here twice already and have tried Mara, Rose and Grandma tteokbokki as well as rice balls and gimmari. This place is great! It's basically a build your own tteokbokki restaurant. You should ALWAYS add "toppings" to your dishes (veggies, noodles, eggs, meat, etc) since it only comes with the sauce, rice cake, fish cake, and an egg. My husband and best friend are obsessed with anything level two but I'm a chicken and can only handle level one. Which even then is spicy, so if you can't handle spice, level one will be more than enough! Rice balls were soooo flavorful with the seaweed and sesame oil. It's fun to create your own size balls (doesn't come pre rolled; you mix it yourself) Place has been clean both times and staff fairly friendly. Sort of late review, but I came and ordered the rosé tteokkbeokki with those giant rice cakes. It was so good and the right amount of spice. I will always opt for cheese on top. I think I might have screamed in excitement when I found out that one of my favorite ktown restaurants was so much closer. Hands down the best tteokbokki I've had. If you're new to the dish get level 1 spice as it already has heat. When you come in there is a cold bar to add additional items to the dish like noodles or more veg. Basically order up front, your food is taken to you and if you'd like you can head over to the topping bar. Ramen, tofo, veggies and many other toppings available, your plate will be weighed. Once you're done eating pay up and go! The drink selection available on this day was the soda machine and can sodas, the other machine was out of service. The food is AMAZING. I got the rose tteokbokki. You can add other toppings but I just like it as it is. It comes with rice cake (choose the thickness of the rice cake and the spicy level you want) egg, onions, fish cake, sausage, and bacon. It's soooo good! I wanted to eat all of it, but the portion size is pretty generous, so I took half of it in a To-go box home. I love the environment. It's such a cute little restaurant. From the picture online, I thought it would be bigger, but it's smaller than I expected. However this place is great and if you're passing by and like tteokbokki, then you should give this a try! I finally tried Halgatteok for lunch. The inside is clean the young lady was kind and helpful. I ordered the tkeboki spice level 2 with the rice that you can form into a ball. I also got a Diet Coke. The food is really good has a lot of flavor and comes in a generous portion. I was able to take leftovers home. Spice level 2 is definitely spicy. I can't imagine how hot level 3 is. Decided to try the jjajangmyeon tteokbokki. Would give it a solid 7/10. The cheese wasn't stretchy, it was a melting texture where it wasn't the stretchy type. They offer 3 different kinds like mil tteok (wheat flour), ssal tteok (rice flour), and garae tteok (longer and thicker). They even have a toppings bar where you can add in veggies, noodles, seafood, etc. We ordered the Grandma (OG sauce) and Rose (creamy, spicy, cheesy) Tteokbokki. I got the rose tteokboki mild thinking to yupduk in k town, but this place is not spicy. It is truly mild in spice. I got the thick tteok which is supposed to be what they are known for but the flavors don't stick to the rice cake that well. I'm thinking the noodle or the small tteok works better. Maybe next time. The sauce is pretty soupy... I wish it was thicker and would stick to the fish cakes, sausage and rice cakes more. The rose was too American cheese flavored for me... it wasn't the best sauce. I had way better in Koreatown. Honestly, not as good as yup duk. It's cute and close enough to where I live. I may give it another go, but overall disappointing. Service is not the greatest. We recently tried visiting Halgatteok in Koreatown after KCON LA, but its parking lot is valet only and disabled parking is very limited. We left because of these issues. When we found out that Halgatteok opened a new location in Northridge, we immediately went to visit the restaurant. The parking was easy and two disabled parking spaces conveniently serve the restaurant and neighboring businesses. Being a fan of K-Dramas, K-Pop, cooking Korean food, and learning the Korean language, eating authentic tteokbokki has been high on our list. We were not disappointed at all with the food at Halgatteok. Also, we loved the K-Pop music playing in the restaurant. Halgatteok appears to be a combined word of grandma + let's go eat + tteokboki. The restaurant themes itself that you're enjoying delicious food that grandma made. Tteokbokki is a culturally significant food in Korea once served to royalty and is now often served by street vendors to children after school. It is a comfort food. Halgatteok is setup to allow customers to pick any extra toppings they want to add to their tteokbokki dish. Standard offerings in the tteokbokki are the specific tteokbokki type you want, fish cakes, a whole egg, and a choice of sauce type. There are several side dishes that can be ordered, but it is not a typical banchan side dishes found at other Korean restaurants like KBBQ's. We ordered a grandma (halmoni) tteokbokki, a rose tteokbokki, both with the #2 version of tteokbokki which is called ssal tteok. We also ordered sweet potato tempura, rice ball, squid tempura, and mayak gimbap. The tteokbokki, though spice level 1, was spicy, but not in a bad way. We added mozzarella cheese and that helped balance the spice level and added a delicious flavor. Highly recommend the cheese topping. The tteokbokki itself had the perfect amount of chewiness. The rose tteokbokki was not as spicy and I believe that is because the heavy cream tamed the gochugaru spice. The broth reminded me of Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana because of the heavy cream, bacon, and sausage flavors. If there was a potato and kale or blanched spinach option to add, I think it would make the rose tteokbokki even better. This was my favorite of the two tteokbokkis we ordered though not to say the grandma tteokbokki was not excellent in its own right. I wish I would have added ramyon (ramen) and tofu to the tteokbokki's to help soak up the sauces. The rice ball is served as a bowl of rice mixed with other things. Gloves are provided to take a portion of the rice and ball it up in hand to eat. This was fun and tasty. The other side dishes we ordered were all cooked well and tasted delicious. The restaurant was easy to move around in with a mobility aid and an employee kindly assisted me with the restroom door which I always consider to be a high level of service. However, we were told which table to sit at instead of being free to use whatever table we felt comfortable sitting at like every other customer. There were at least three tables that could accommodate a wheelchair. It would be better for the staff to make a table suggestion such as "I believe you may find this table best to sit at as you'll have plenty of room, easy access to the soda fountain machine and restroom, and be most comfortable at" instead of saying "let me have you sit at this table". I think this is just an awareness issue and not a discrimination issue as the staff was very kind and I believe their intentions were for the good. We were very impressed with the food and the quick & friendly service of the staff. I highly recommend visiting Halgatteok and I recommend taking advantage of the extra toppings offered. I hope Halgatteok will be very successful. read more

I've been seeing this place pop up all over my feed anywhere I was on, so of course I finally got up and had to go order take out in store. They are very friendly and the place was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. It's very clean and everything looks brand new. It's honestly never even tried Tteok-bokki. But I'm very familiar with Korean noddles and love spicy. There's a few options you have to add to your tteokbokki bowl. I added ramen and got the number 2 spice level, there's 3 levels. I got the rose tteokbokki, the flavor was on point. It was a kinda spicier than I thought, but I can handle the heat. I don't think I can go up to level 3 whatsoever though. It came with egg, bacon, fish cake and sausage. The tteokbokki were very big and delicious. They asked me if I wanted regular size or there special long ones, of course I had to go big! This bowl was very filling I could barely eat half of it. With the sweet potato tempura, I was completely full. The tempura was good especially with the sauce they give. It was my first time here. I wasn't sure how the menu worked. I was greeted but I had asked how would ordering work. She said that I would have to choose a teabokki and then just took my order. She asked if I wanted cheese. I didn't know when we would or could add the toppings? I didn't know you had to add it before you pay.
