Corn Beef left; Pastrami right. Coleslaw; Steak fries
    Gary I.

Brent's Deli is an institution in the San Fernando Valley, and it may just be its best. One thing for sure, the portions are generally humongous so you will never leave hungry. Nothing succeeds like excess. In fact, most people will need a take out box for one less meal to cook. Delicatessen means delicate eating in German, but at a Jewish American Delicatessen, the emphasis is on the Eating, which I am not complaining. 1) I requested an off menu item of having a Reuben sandwich where half is Corned Beef and the other Pastrami. Brent's Reuben has warm Sauerkraut, grilled Rye bread, melted Swiss Cheese, 1,000 Island dressing. Thinly sliced, multi-layered Mound of Pastrami is a bit on the dry side. Curing doesn't create a deep meaty Umami and spicing is present but attenuated. The Corned Beef is moister with bit more Umami & plush, thin multi-layered red colored meat. I have to say the Pastrami at Langer's is cured more intensely to bring out a deep Umami as well as more complex and complementary spicing of especially warm spiced cloves that adds aromatic richness. Brent's Pastrami doesn't seem to reach that kind of apotheosis. 1b) I asked for the steak fries to be fried two minutes longer for a crisper finish which was honored. Not much in way of that distinctive potato earthiness, but acceptable. 1c) Coleslaw is mayonnaise based, watery, bland, but a good cruciferous, fibrous veggie to add more fibre, healthful phytochemicals to counter the meat overload even though it isn't flavourful 2) Carrot Cake is closer to a delicate, dense, moist spice cake. A slice is enormous since it is cut from an extra tall cake studded with crushed walnuts and a cream cheese like not too sweet frosting. At $14 it could feed 4 people. Service is fine. They take your order and run with it. Bit of tunnel vision where it may be a bit hard to flag them down. But the job does get done. Overall 3+ stars

I have been going to Brent's for YEARS!! I used to work in the general neighborhood and went quite often, however, I'm no longer super close by, so we only go on occasion. I always enjoy it when we do. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with several other businesses. There is a large parking lot, and I've never had any issues finding a space. The restaurant has both sit down dining and take out. If you enjoy pastrami, you can't go wrong with any of the pastrami options. All of the soups are really great, and I'm especially partial to matzo ball and mish mosh. The service is always attentive and friendly. On our most recent visit at the end of May 2026, we only ordered take out. Maria was the person at the counter who took care of our order and she was top notch. Everything was perfect.

I hadn't been to Brent's in maybe 15 years, came on a Saturday afternoon on a whim. First time I came was probably around 1996! We waited about 10-15 mins outside. No shade , so watch out if it's a HOT day. We split the signature Pastrami sandwich . Very good, as good as I recall. My cousin got the tuna sandwich. . I didn't love it , but didn't stop me from finishing her half - haha. Nice service , positive experience. If this is what you are desiring - a Jewish deli - you'll enjoy for sure. Quite tasty sandwiches.

Brent's was ALWAYS the best deli in L.A.... and they still are. I moved to Palm Beach, FL 13-years-ago and it's better than any in Palm Beach County. For brunch my cousins & I had lox, or both w/toasted bagels. It was delicious. And as excellent as the food was, the service was just as good. The Waitstaff was quick, efficient and very professional. Every time I'm in L.A. I make it a point to stop at Brent's and you should too. You'll never be disappointed!

Another great trip to Brent's yesterday. My new tip is don't snooze on the pickles. This time I took some home, old and new pickles. I got the hamburger steak, yum!! Of course the service was great and dining room was so clean.

First time coming to Brent's in Northridge. I liked the ambience and service was excellent. Since it was Tuesday, they had a half sandwich Reuben on special. I ordered this special. I was delivered a plate of three slices of pickle while I waited. The special came with super salad. I opted for the barley soup. The soup was very tasty though the mushrooms that were in the soup were old. There were nice chunks of meat in the soup. The plate with a sandwich some french fries and coleslaw came out next. The sandwich had a lot of meat and a nicely bread. I liked the sandwich. The french fries were thick cut and obviously frozen fries. They were OK but could be better. The coleslaw was sour and I found a piece that looked moldy. See photo. I asked for a replacement and was brought the potato salad. One taste of the potato salad and I could taste that it had bell pepper which I do not eat so I didn't like the potato salad. I went out of my way to come here. I would not do so again. I would come back if I happen to be in the area. I'm a bit spoiled, having had the best of Jewish deli on the East Coast. The West Coast deli is just don't measure up.

At a lively location in a Northridge strip mall, a visit to Brent's Deli is the best way to connect with long held traditions. You're here to enjoy classic comforting dishes passed down through generations. Grab a seat at one of the comfortable booths or dine at the counter. You can get a combo with half a traditional sandwich with a soup. I opted for the Hot Pastrami with cole slaw and a cup of chicken noodle soup with a matzo ball. The pastrami is sliced thin and piled in a massive round stack. The meat is rich and tasty. I think my mouth watered before taking the next hearty bite. The toasted rye bread is soft with really nice crusty edges. The caraway seeds impart an intense peppery, herbal, and citrusy flavor. The sandwich is so good that next time I'd skip the amazing matzo ball soup for a full sandwich. You can have an accompanying plate of pickles, which are tangy but not too sour. What's more better than a hot bowl of chicken soup on a "cold" "winter's" day in LA? The matzo ball is light, fluffy, and airy. The chicken soup could have been served a bit hotter, but it's clear and comforting. Egg noodles are thin and short. The shredded chicken and carrots are tender and sweet. Dip some chunks of the rye bread into the soup and the chicken flavor and the rye are somehow amplified Parking: The parking lot is large and spots are ready to find.

Brent's is iconic and an institution that lives up to the hype. The food is delicious and huge portion sizes - great value for the money. The turkey melt was perfection and the carrot cake was the largest I've ever seen. Cheesecake was delicious too. Easy parking in the lot and excellent service.

I had to take one star off due to the extreme dryness of the chocolate cake. The piece was huge so we shared it with our kids. Not one of them liked it. The rugelach was not good either. I definitely can't recommend them. Canters has better baked goods. 1/8/26

I ordered a French dip with an order of fries. The pickles were very crunchy. Everything tasted great

I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't so pricey. The food is good but I don't understand why does it have to be so expensive. I've had their hot pastrami sandwich, bagel chips and matzo ball soup. I like their pastrami sandwich because it's not so packed with the pastrami. It's a good size sandwich. The bagel chips are delicious. Such a good savory treat. However, the matzo ball soup is okay. I hear it's popular but you're really not missing out. I've had much more flavorful and filling soups. Service is attentive and fast. Dining in has a nice home-y vibe to it. It does get busy though. Theres plenty of parking in the plaza.

Over the years, Brent's earned the reputation of the go-to classic sandwich staple in my book. There was a time when we ordered it in weekly at the office. This time, however, was the first time I actually dined at Brent's. It was serendipity that guided us here. We had an hour to spare and my kiddo was hungry. Only rule: No fast food. So no, McDonald's was not an option. Despite walking into a full house, we got lucky with a 1 minute wait. It was a lively, family atmosphere filled with a constant bustling of clattering dishes, bus boys clearing & cleaning, and table-side chatter. ** MATZO BALL SOUP ** Lots of shredded chicken and egg noodles + it was chock full of carrots and celery. The large "floater" matzo ball was light and fluffy. Although I prefer denser "sinkers", this one was still good. And once I added salt to the broth, it was all fantastic. This is a great option for those with strict dietary sodium restrictions. From my experience, this multi-generational place is where grandkids and grandparents can both enjoy something from the menu. No matter what you order at Brent's house, it tastes like a real, home-cooked meal. ** THE KID'S MENU ** Breakfast for dinner. That's a yes, please and the pancakes were great, said my little guy. 1 scrambled egg, 1 strip of crisp bacon, and 3 Ella's Silver Dollar Pancakes was a decent portion with a drink included. For the little Picasso's dining here, there's a monthly Art Contest for the best sandwich art. Just no finger-painting with your food, please. After all these years, I can finally connect a friendly, family vibe with the restaurant I used to order my yummy Reuben sandwiches for delivery. I'm glad it's more vibrant IRL than what I had imagined.

It's been 27 years since the last time we were at Brent"s Delicatessen & Restaurant. I use to live in Northridge and Brent"s was one of my go to restaurants. The Bay Area is a deli desert so we were craving some pastrami and Matzzo Ball soup. I met up with an old college buddy and spent hours eating and catching up. We ordered the following items Matzzo ball chicken soup Pastrami sandwich Corned beef and cabbage Chopped liver Chicken salad There is always an endless tray of pickles on the table.. Besides the chopped liver being a bit too roughly chopped everything was just like before. Service was excellent keeping our rice teas and coffee filled. Plenty of parking

So if you live within 5 miles you can order your sandwich and have it delivered. It's convenient because it's also a liquor store. You can order anything else at the same time and have that included for that nominal fee. It's always nice to support local places, this feels like a family business but I didn't ask so I'm not sure. One thing I'm certain of, I will be returning.

4/29/2026: I was cruising through the Valley and asked hubby to make a stop to pick up a good Banh…read moreMi for later. It had been a while since I visited my places in Reseda and I wanted to see if they're still as good as before. Sandwich Express did not disappoint! Back in the 80's I lived in Northridge and had a Vietnamese co-worker who was a friend and fellow foodie. He introduced me to banh mi and Sandwich Express, and I'm so glad he did! Starting with their amazing banh (baguette rolls), they're baked fresh daily. They're crisp on the outside and perfectly soft in their interior. Not too dense or thick - just the right crisp and airy bread to filling ratio that you want in a banh mi! You can also buy baguettes to take home. Back in the day they were 3 for $1! Yup, apparently I'm that old... today they're a couple of bucks, but still worth it. Sorry I failed to take pics of my sandwich when it was freshly made, I was just so excited to go back in time to this little corner of Reseda that looks like it hasn't changed! The photo shown is the next day.. and that's only HaLF of the sandwich! The lady at the counter was so sweet! Don't assume rudeness for challenges with communication. I was nice and she was kind in return. There's a language barrier and at first she was shy, but once we worked through the English-Vietnamese translations with the help of Google, I was able to ask her if they sell Kho Ga La Chanh (Chicken Jerky) - and she ran excitedly to the back and produced a sealed bag of their homemade jerky! Not the same flavor profile as the stuff I buy in San Gabriel Valley, but it's a start! I'll bring them a sample the next time I get a batch to see if they can mimic the sweet spice. Theirs is a little more "five spice" forward. I placed my order for a #1 "Dac Biet" sandwich, "extra pâté, extra veggies". That's my default sammie by which I judge all Bánh Mi and I'm here to say that even a day later, right out of my fridge it's still THE best Banh Mi in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys! Bright, fresh, generously filled.. and the magic bread. I happen to know that a local chain of popular phô restaurants buys their bahn (rolls) daily from Sandwich Express to make their own sandwiches and to serve with their Bho Ko (stew)! If you're wondering for reference where my bar is set, my go-to banh mi spots in San Gabriel Valley are Bánh Mi Hue Thai and Banh Mi Hoa Phat. ~IYKYK~ What has changed at Sandwich Express? It's not just sandwiches anymore AND they have a few tables inside where you can sit down to eat! They don't have my beloved Soda Xí Muội (salted plum soda) or the lime version either. Just canned and bottled American sodas, but that's not a deal breaker. Check out the posted menu pics. Bún Bò Huě, Bò Kho.. the owner did suggest calling first to make sure these items are available on the day you want to come, but she boasts that it's very authentic! They even have broken rice dishes with grilled pork chop (Cóm Tãm Súòn)! I read in another review that the original owners sold. I don't know if this is accurate or when it happened.. but I didn't see the older people that were often in the kitchen so it's possible! Back to the changes - they have desserts now, too! They also cater! What?!? No longer cash only, they accept Visa/Mastercard. I'm so glad we stopped! They still hold the #1 spot in the area. Convince me otherwise!

We had a very disappointing experience with this store, both in terms of food quality and customer…read moreservice. We have been loyal customers for over 10 years and frequently order the beef sandwich and pâté. Yesterday, we ordered two beef sandwiches and one pâté. Since we live only 8-10 minutes away, we returned home immediately after picking up the order. When I started eating, I noticed that the pâté tasted very sour and spoiled. Unfortunately, I had already mixed part of it with my rice, so I had to throw it away. We called the store right away to report the issue, and they told us we could bring the pâté back the next day. Today, we returned to the store. We did not request a refund--we simply wanted to exchange the item and were willing to pay the difference for a beef sandwich instead. However, the staff member we spoke with was very rude and accused us of lying, claiming that we had eaten the pâté. We explained that we had to discard it since it was mixed with rice and even showed a photo that we throw it in to the trash, but she continued to question our honesty. In the past, we have had positive experiences with previous staff, and the owners have always been kind. Unfortunately, this particular employee demonstrated very poor customer service and made the situation unnecessarily unpleasant. An apology would have been appropriate. The employee declined to provide her name and appeared hesitant. She is a newer staff member, approximately in her 50s, and spoke incessantly while repeatedly blaming us for the situation. This is not about the cost--the amount is small. It is about how customers are treated. While this issue could have been escalated further, including reporting to the health department, we chose not to. What we expect instead is for the store to ensure proper food quality and provide better TRAINING for staff. Due to this experience, we will not be returning and will share our experience with others.

Well, Well, Well…read more... It appears that my 23&Me ancestry composition has been recently updated and as of today, you are now looking at a 7.1%, Pure, Italian Stallion. Yeah, I too always thought I looked like a young Joe Pesci... Ha! Hey, Fugheddaboudit!!!! Hey, hate me for my ways, but blood is blood and I'm going to run with this Italian thing for as long as I can. And just as my "old Italian Nonna" might have said, had I actually had one... "O mangi la minestra o salti la finestra" But being that I am less than 10% actual Italian blooded, and me not actually having a Nonna who would probably just yell crazy things at me in Italian, I'll just stick to the little Italian that I actually know..... The Food!!!! Yeah give me.... A little meatballs slathered in marinara covered in melted provolone... Or Some thinly sliced prosciutto, mortadella, capicola on some crusty Italian bread... Or even... A square of lasagna with Italian sausage, mozzarella, ricotta, Romano cheese served with a chilled San Pellegrino to wash it all down... And you'd be 100%, not 7.1% correct, that I would enthusiastically rep my Italian heritage and proudly wave the colors of my National flag... The Red, The White & The Bl.... Errr, I mean Green! ;) Yes, I can admittedly get behind Italian food any day of the week and I know my "Nonna" would be proud. Well thankfully, you don't have to go all the way back to the Motherland to visit your Nonna and experience the old world eats of a little place called Italia! Cause Cavaretta's Italian Deli has all your Deli needs and wants covered. Yep, a San Fernando Valley staple since 1959, this spot has been and continues to be the place to grab the Best Italian sandwich (according to the Daily News) this side of the Colosseum (according to me, Lance L.). But the cocoa powder on top of the Tiramisu (aka the cherry on top)... This deli has an Italian Grocery shop with everything you need to make your real or made up Nonna proud back in your kitchen. So, forget about waiting around for your 23&Me results to come back and just get your little pasticcino buns over to Cavaretta's and live like the Italiano's do! Ciao Bella!

I ordered a the Dom and a supremo on their website at about 1:30pm on a Friday. It was ready at 2:30, which seemed like a crazy long wait for a sandwich, especially considering the place was empty when I got there. But alas. I wonder if it would have been quicker for me to just go in and order in person. Anyway, the wait (and 30 minutes of wandering around target to kill time) was worth it. The supremo - it's basically a slice of pepperoni cheese bread. Which is delicious. My late uncle's friend used to make us a pepperoni bread every year at Christmas and try as I might, I could never make it as good as hers. This one is closer than I've gotten! They forgot the side of Marinara for dipping, though, but it's fine because I have no chill and inhaled this thing on the drive home. While I was expecting something a little bigger based on the photo and the price, it was tasty and I would prooooobably get it again. The Dom - the real reason I'm here: a sandwich! I asked them to swap out the provolone for pepper jack, as I do not like provolone. The ratio of all the ingredients was spot on! The bread was soft with a little chew. Everything was fresh. Sandwich was a good size overall. 10/10, would eat again. Excited to go back to try a pizza or maybe a meatball sub or lasagna!
