This was once Lucille BBQ which I love and enjoyed. Though I'm sad to see it go, Second and Saint is a great addition to Topanga Village. Atmosphere and decor is beautiful, both indoor and outdoor. The huge black tree decor inside in the restaurant is great sculptural focal point and compliments the space well. The outdoor patio has lounge style vibe and very cozy. We sat outside which was perfect because we had our dog with us. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Bloody Mary was sinfully delicious! Both pork belly lettuce wrap and meatballs were divine. Toasted bread that came with meatballs provides the perfect vehicle for mopping up all the scrumptious tomato sauce and ricotta. We ordered steak and eggs, steak frites and chorizo/egg tacos. The steaks were outstanding, brandy peppercorn sauce and fries cooked in duck fat added an extra layer of yumminess to the steak frites. Meh. It was a fine dinner, but there was definitely room for improvement. We came with a party of 6 and were initially offered a VERY tight booth, but they were accommodating about getting us to their private dining room at a table so we had more space. None of us were drinking but we all ordered non-alcoholic drinks, and there were multiple mix-ups with the initial order placed. I ordered an N/A cocktail that was essentially a virgin margarita and I thought it was fine. At $14 the N/A drinks are a little steep. As a group we ordered several appetizers. The shrimp cocktail ($27) came with 6 of the largest shrimp I've ever seen but wasn't anything special. We also ordered the pork belly ($20), the calamari ($23), and two orders of the Parker house rolls ($13 each, with 3 rolls in each order). I wouldn't reorder any of the apps we got for the price to portion ratio. On the flip side, entrees were massive. Several of us split Caesar salads ($18 each) which were easily entree sized at the half portion. I wasn't overly impressed with the salad though, the Caesar dressing was kinda gross and it was overdressed. The fish and chips ($28) however was delicious and I thought it was cooked perfectly. Several people got steaks ($51 each) and enjoyed them, and one member of our party got the ravioli ($29) and thought it was great. This is a new place for us and we loved it so we went back. We have now had lunch and dinner there. The place is lovely and ever so clean. It is nicely decorated and super comfortable. You can eat there, get pick up or they deliver a few things. We have only eaten there. The service is superior. The entire staff is nice and friendly. The staff will take good care of you and you will want for nothing. We loved their brunch. Their lox served on a bagel is great. We also loved their soft scrambled avocado toast and their tri top hash is great. I think they make it there. For lunch or dinner their burgers can't be beat. I've recently had dinner at this place before they change their menu as I learned they do this seasonally. We took our friends out to dinner and I'm glad that all turned out well. We started at the bar having well made old fashioned as we waited for our friends to arrive. Come time to order our food we ordered steak and frites, lamb, and lemon ricotta raviolis. We picked Saint & Second for Sunday brunch, and from the moment we walked in, it felt like the perfect spot for a long catch-up. The restaurant is beautiful. It has a polished, modern feel with high ceilings, exposed beams, warm wood, and a gorgeous bar that immediately catches your eye. There's a lot to look at, but the space still feels comfortable rather than overly formal. I also loved the natural light coming in through the large windows. Our server was great. He was friendly, attentive, and gave us recommendations without making us feel rushed. We were there celebrating, and the service made the afternoon feel even more special. I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy, and I would absolutely get it again. The biscuit was generous and covered in a rich, flavorful gravy with a fried egg on top. Come here for the happy hour with great food and drink specials both! Saint & Second is the restaurant located on the 1st floor of the building where 24 Hour Fitness is located. Parking can be found in the Topanga Village garage and is free for the first 1.5 hours. My friend and I came Friday afternoon around 4 pm for their happy hour. Normally happy hour is on their patio, but they seated us in their regular dining area, not sure why. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. It was a nice day out, so we requested outdoor. Unfortunately that meant I was bitten by mosquitos a couple times. All cocktails on the happy hour menu are between $10-11. I got the Boston Sour and my friend got the Social Mule. We both liked our drinks. For food, we shared the following from the happy hour menu: Green goddess hummus ($8 hh) - pretty good, but I wish there was more pita to go with the hummus! Crispy chicken sliders ($11 hh) - ginormous chicken sliders! Would highly recommend! Meatball sliders ($11) - good but on the smaller side, especially when placed side by side with the chicken sliders lol Blackened salmon tacos ($11 hh) - also good, though I found the salmon a bit bland Presentation for the drinks and all the dishes was beautifully done. I'm not a big drinker and am a fan of drinks that you can't really taste the alcohol and this was great. It was a fun to drink and was refreshing. For our entree my friend had the Fish & Chips. ($27 - Crispy haddock fillet, sea salt fries, tartar sauce, grilled lemon). I tried a piece of her fish and it was thinly battered, soft, and flavorful. I usually try to stay away from fried fish like this just because places use way too much better or the fish gets super oily but they was not the case with their fish & chips. You can tell they use quality ingredients. I had the 4 piece Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice. ($34 - Fresh ahi, dynamite sauce, wasabi tobiko, togarashi, toasted sesame). Oh my goodness was this delicious. This is usually something you'd eat as an appetizer but eating it alone is a meal in itself. Yes, it's pricey BUT it is totally worth it. Saint & Second is an upscale dining experience. Absolutely delicious. We went in for brunch on a Sunday and it was beautiful morning to sit outside. We ordered our drinks, a cappuccino and a Not-a-colada. Both were fabulous, but the not a colada took the cake with its flavorful combination of pineapple, coconut and root beer; you must try it. I had to try the avocado toast and my date had the huevos rancheros. My avocado toast was so hefty I loved it, but more so I loved the potatoes on the side perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, oh so well seasoned. I appreciate that we weren't rushed to the check as a matter of fact we stayed to chat longer than expected and that might have been because it wasn't that busy at 10am but no I appreciated the servers taking their time to bring the bill. read more

I know I'm a little late to the game, but I finally made it to Saint & Second, having booked a business brunch for Saturday morning. First off, I have to give them major props for how they've remodeled and reinvigorated the interior since taking over from Lucille's BBQ. The decor is upscale yet comfortable, with dark browns and warm lighting making you feel like you're in a place where good things are going to happen. The hosting staff was friendly and accommodating, greeting me the moment I entered and seating us quickly once all of us had arrived. Our server was also very friendly, and arranged for one of my tablemates to have a salad she'd spied online that normally isn't available during brunch service; while that seems like a simple thing, it's the type of request that's often rejected out of hand, so kudos to the team for making that happen. That salad, the Spring Tomato & Burrata, was a visually arresting presentation of the titular cheese and tomatoes accompanied by basil ricotta, pistachio dust, white balsamic vinaigrette, watercress, watermelon radish, and balsamic gastrique. I did not sample the dish (I didn't know them well enough to ask for a bite), but she and her colleague really enjoyed it. For my own part, I ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict, which isn't 100% "classic,' as the eggs and ham are layered atop biscuits instead of an English Muffin -- and that's a departure I can fully support. Those biscuits were flaky and savory, with a well-balanced denseness: tough enough to hold up the ham & eggs + Hollandaise sauce, though also flaky and flavorful enough in their own right to appeal on a biscuit level. Eggs were properly poached, ham was tasty without being too salty, and the Hollandaise was rich without going over the top. The fingerling potatoes served on the side were nicely salted, soft on the inside, and the perfect medium for dipping into any erstwhile Hollandise on the plate. My salad-eating tablemate also ordered the same Eggs Benedict, and enjoyed it as well. Her colleague ordered the Old-Fashioned Pancakes, served with berries and fresh whipped cream. It was a generous and lovely-looking plate that clearly made her very happy, along with the lattes and cappuccinos they sipped on the side. All-in-all this was a nice, relaxed brunch with good food and friendly service. The only thing keeping me from giving the restaurant 5 stars is their prices. While our Eggs Benedict and Pancakes fell neatly into the price range one would expect at a nice brunch spot, other items on the menu came with some seriously hefty price tags: a $26 burger (more than the bone marrow burger at the adjacent Eureka), a $27 shrimp cocktail (more than at nearby Ruth's Chris), and $29 for spicy tuna on crispy rice (fully twice the price of what you pay at Katsu-Ya, literally right next door). I understand the difficulty of keeping such a large, nicely appointed venue afloat in today's economy, but I'm not sure I would return to pay those prices without being first told by someone that the iterations of these dishes at Saint & Second are truly worthy. This area got reboot about a year ago and we hadn't visited. Yesterday was the day we stopped in for their Social Hour (3-6pm) to celebrate my bfs birthday. It was pretty empty, but super clean and put together. We were able to pick our own seats and Lennin was our server. He was very attentive, polite, and personable. We exchanged some small talk and he was on top of checking in on us whenever he could. Great first impression! We both went ahead with the smash burger ($12) and side of fries ($3), along with a couple social hour drinks: mule ($10.5) and a cold tall beer ($6-7). The burger has the softest bun. The cheese melted so perfectly on the smashed patty, draped in the most perfect grilled onions and delicious secret sauce. A couple of pickles inside as well. Every bite was delectable and enjoyable! The side portion of fries were of value and crispy. Everything tasted so fresh and of quality. My bf inhaled it lol. The mule was refreshing and not watered down, even though it took me a while to finish because I was watching my pace. It was a hazy day outside, but the patio furniture is comfortable and the ambiance was perfect. I can't wait to return and see how it looks at night! The decor was also a little dark, so the server brought us a little lantern, which helped a lot. The meal came with 2 glasses of champagne and 2 appetizers. After that, it was quite a long wait for our entree (beef wellington), so the server helped out with some rolls in the meantime. The meal was great, and whoever thought up chive potato puree was a genius. The desserts (coconut pannacotta and a chocolate lava cake) were also quite delicious. The food we were served was good. Unfortunately, we did not receive all the food that we ordered. Apparently the kitchen thought that no bacon meant no meat, even though we order a tri-tip sandwich. Anyway, on top of that, it took a little over 30 mins to receive our food when the restaurant was at 50-60% capacity. In addition, our server, though nice and cordial, was a bit difficult to find when we needed some attention. The host staff was wonderful and the manager did come out to apologize, which is why I'm giving 3 stars, not 1 or 2. Hopefully, next time it will be better. read more

We have visited Saint & Second in Long Beach a while ago. Glad we decided to try this location at Westfield topanga. Place is very beautiful and spacious. We got seated at a very cozy and semi private booth. It was an odd hour so we had 3 different servers for our meal. And they were all very friendly. For food we had Korean pork belly, mezze plate, spicy tuna crispy rice as apps. Branzino and steak & frites as entrees. Also a s' more like dessert. The food was delicious but a bit bland especially fish. For drinks we had vesper martinis, seasonal whisky cocktails, tawny port and espresso shots. SPOT ON! I don't know how else to describe my visit to Saint & Second yesterday for a laidback and relaxing dinner and drinks at the bar. The bartender, Geoffrey, was paramount in turning a dinner into an experience. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the other two bartenders also, but I failed to get their names. However, all 3 behind the bar were stunningly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Taking the time to check on the patrons appropriately, help each other out in a pinch and work incredibly well together at a relatively small bar. I started my meal with the Caesar Salad which had a twist with a lemon olive oil that pairs perfectly and adds a unique flavor to the salad. After the Caesar I moved on, based on staff recommendations, to the Salmon for my main dish. I normally won't eat Salmon at most restaurants unless it's truly on the coast. However, after being told that the Chef sources their Salmon from Skuna Bay Salmon, a reputable and sustainable Salmon farm that raises their salmon in a natural environment, I was sold. And I was very happy for it. I'm not sure I've had a better salmon dish at a restaurant! Saint & Second's other surprise was the wine offerings that were wines by the glass that are normally offered only by the bottle. As a "wine guy" I was very impressed that I could get a single glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape that was the perfect pairing with the Salmon dish. I followed up the meal with the Chef's take on a Peach Cobbler, which was formed in a closed-crusted "turnover" style serving. It was amazing and the perfect complement to a last sip of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Perfect date night, so my friend as in town and she chose the dinner restaurant, this was on my book marks anyway so I was really excited to get out on the town for a little adult night. We had an array of things like the mezze plate which was probably the best thing on the menu and I truly enjoyed this appetizer! The roasted garlic flatbread was nice and decadent on its own packed a crunch as well and the three dipping sauces were very unique and I loved them all! Came with baba ghanoush, muhammara with pomegranate seeds and labneh with honey! All were great so different from each other. Parker house rolls were ok. No big whoop for me, if you didn't eat the fast enough, they hardened. Then from the bar i was recommended the rainbow drink so I went ahead with that one i think the name was rainbow sherbet but that too was very sweet, didn't care too much for it but I gave it a go anyway. For the mains, we opted for a wedge with grilled flat iron and the prime steak and frittes. I wish someone would have told me that my dinner did not look like the pictures features on Yelp! Instead I got a Salisbury salted steak with super salted fries! Maybe it was an off day? I don't know but it didn't leave me coming back for more! The food, service and ambience was excellent. I had a business meeting at this location and our server made it very easy for us to choose dishes from the menu. Everything was freshly made, they source menu ingredients from local farms. Our server was fantastic and she recommended the fresh juices which I must say were outstanding.
