Update: We got the soy wings and tteobokki with the mini one. It was actually not bad and I remembered suggesting about pickled radish and they have it this time! I would say that this time food was better. Came here since people said it got better and I would give it a solid 7/10. Would definitely come back if we're craving tteobokki!

Awesome spot for tteokboki in the valley! Now we don't have to go all the way to downtown for chewy rice cakes. The place was clean, we didn't wait for long for our food, and we will absolutely come back again! Aside from our grandma and rose tteokboki, we added cheese, ramen, rice balls (that you make yourself), and kimbap. A little pricey though and with great parking.

If you're looking for a dining experience that feels like you have willingly signed up for culinary hazing, congratulations - you found it at Halgatteok. First, the K fried chicken. I call it sweet and yes, it is sweet in the way your aunt's Facebook post are sweet, aggressively, sticky, cloying, and just shy of giving you a cavity on the spot. Still, annoyingly addictive. You'll keep eating it like you're in a toxic relationship, muttering "this is too much" between bites while licking your fingers anyway. The fried rice cake, though shockingly good. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside - the kind of thing that makes you think, "yeah, I'd risk hot oil burns for this". Honestly, it might've been the most dependable item on the table. And then there's a grandma Tataekbokki. Which you can order the spice level and I ordered it spicy. Whoever this grandma is, she's clearly harboring generational rage and decided to take it out on unsuspecting customers. "Ridiculously spicy" doesn't even cover it. It's not heat - it's a life choice. One bite and suddenly you're reconsidering your will, reevaluating your faith, and googling how long does capsicum stay in your bloodstream". So yes, go for the fried chicken.

I come here strictly for one thing and one thing only! I add other things to my must tries but this dish is a must every time! I believe this restaurant has the best tasting Tteokbokki east of the 405... hot fresh and super tasty! Portions are big and you will have enough for leftovers. Gimbap is really good here too! Super fresh!

Finally! We got to try this new Korean food in Northridge. We ordered the Rose Taekbokki - level 1 spice and mini size of rice cake so that ny 11 yr old son can eat and its in bite size portion already. For an added extra fee, we decided to add instant Ramen, extra fish cakes, sausages, fish caske tofu and onions. One order of the taakbokki is actually good for 2-3 people eapecially if you put all the extra add ons. We didn't even get to finish ours so had to take some home. We also ordered the Fish Cake Soup, the size and portions of the fish cakes were all decent. It has a clear soup which I like but adding the fish soup sauce makes it even more flavorful!!! We also ordered gimmari (fried seaweed roll) it really goes well with the taekbokki and sweet potato tempura - right portion and decent size as well. We came here 2 consecutive days actually, first on a Saturday with just me and my 2 children and then the next day, with my husband and kids again. The service GREAT! I am guessing they are college kids and are so nice, sweet, attentive and helpful. You order the food from the cashier but they bring the food to your table. They also clean them right after customers leave which I think is good because it keeps the place look clean and neat. The ambience of the place is nice. The untensils and sauce area is very neat and organize. The area where the added extra topping are also neat and you can't see food spills around. They also have free plastric apron to use so that your clothes with not get dirty and free hair ties as well. This place is highly recommended and I am So glad that they decided to open this here in SFV - Northridge. My family had a happy tummy leaving this place and looking fowards to many more visits here.

A solid Korean soul food place! I tried their rose tteokbokki, gimmari, and soondae. The tteokbokki was flavorful and comforting. The tteok was chewy and the sauce was not too thick or thin. I opted for the mini tteok, but looking forward to trying their garaetteok next time! I tolerate spiciness well, but the spicy level 2 was a tad bit too spicy for me. I would choose level 1 if you are sensitive to spiciness. The gimmari was my favorite. It had a great fried texture and a chewy interior. It was perfect to dip in the tteokbokki. The soondae was a bit disappointing and I would not get it again. The casings were missing on most of the pieces and the noodles were overcooked, so it looked like a blob on a plate. The taste was not there either. I liked to atmosphere of the place and the disposable bibs/hair ties to keep yourself clean was a nice touch. The service was great and I enjoyed eating the tteokbokki out of their pseudo-cast iron pan.

Food are amazing! Crew stuffs are all nice and very welcoming. The place is okay nothing special, we just really love how comfortjng the good are.

The food is incredibly flavorful and great service. Must try! My go to is the rose ssal tteokbokki. You will get to select the type of tteokbokki. Sal tteok is healthier of all 3. Though the popular one is the garae and its long..suited for crispy and chewey. Each 3 are: Mil tteok which is made from wheat Ssal Tteok which is made from purely glutionous rice flour. Garae non-glutinous rice flour, which is slightly less sticky..for gluten sensitivity, stick with Ssal Tteok. All decently priced and add ons like ramen can be added.

Food is amazing. Service is good. Good thing the cashier told us the portions are alittle big, we shared one order n took some home.

Parking: lots of parking space in the plaza but they can feel small, so park carefully Nicely, my friend and I were the only customers so the food came out fast. The workers were sweet in ensuring we understood the process of how to order along with making sure we were happy with our order after it came out. The food was delicious and chewy. I would come back here again

    So excited to try this!

This is the ONLY place I will eat Tteok Boekki (떡복끼) - not sure if I spelled that right,...but ever since living in Korea many many years ago, I have tried this dish everywhere in CA-- Korea town, Torrance, LA to San Fran--- and it was never quite right. I have come to expect to be disappointed. Now I have a place to satisfy my cravings!!! Tips: First timers: ---Don't touch the "bar" just order at the counter. The bar is for extras. ---Order level 1 hot. I'm an extra hot girl (tastes, not looks) but I feel level 1 will still be too hot for some. ---share 1 tteokbokki and order some of the other stuff they have. Portions are huge. For those who see spicy level 1,2 & 3 as mild, average, and hot, ..... You should know the Korean translations for levels 1, 2, and 3 say "average", "hot" and "DIE". You've been warned. I took one star off because one of the times I went service was like pulling teeth. If I hadn't been there before I would have left. Another time three of their fountain options were not working, and the Apple soda I was trying for the first time I asked if that's what it is supposed to taste like and I had to strongly suggest someone else taste it, and finally the girl took a little to the back and they came back and said no, and put a sticker on that to say out of order- so half of the drinks were not available and they said they couldn't refill/fix it. And they were out of ice. And finally, my restroom review. Perfectly clean and stocked single room restroom. So all good there!

New place. Pretty straightforward. Simple menu, few tables and chairs. The food also taste okay. Not like make you crave or want to come back the day after. Sorry. Price is okay. Tables aren't clean and only 1 person working. She definitely looks unhappy. She spilled my fish cake soup and don't even give extra napkins so I can wipe the table. And no sorry at all. Kind of rude. ( only 2 tables with total 5 customers. Mine included ) Anyhow. Ordered multtoek fish cake soup. Mayak gimbap, Love the gimmari. Business is targeting local students. So good for them. I'll try something else close by.

Nothing succeeds like excess. In fact, most people will need a take out box for one less meal to cook. Delicatessen means delicate eating in German, but at a Jewish American Delicatessen, the emphasis is on the Eating, which I am not complaining. 1) I requested an off menu item of having a Reuben sandwich where half is Corned Beef and the other Pastrami. Brent's Reuben has warm Sauerkraut, grilled Rye bread, melted Swiss Cheese, 1,000 Island dressing. Thinly sliced, multi-layered Mound of Pastrami is a bit on the dry side. Curing doesn't create a deep meaty Umami and spicing is present but attenuated. The Corned Beef is moister with bit more Umami & plush, thin multi-layered red colored meat. I have to say the Pastrami at Langer's is cured more intensely to bring out a deep Umami as well as more complex and complementary spicing of especially warm spiced cloves that adds aromatic richness. Brent's Pastrami doesn't seem to reach that kind of apotheosis. 1b) I asked for the steak fries to be fried two minutes longer for a crisper finish which was honored. Not much in way of that distinctive potato earthiness, but acceptable. 1c) Coleslaw is mayonnaise based, watery, bland, but a good cruciferous, fibrous veggie to add more fibre, healthful phytochemicals to counter the meat overload even though it isn't flavourful 2) Carrot Cake is closer to a delicate, dense, moist spice cake. A slice is enormous since it is cut from an extra tall cake studded with crushed walnuts and a cream cheese like not too sweet frosting. At $14 it could feed 4 people. Service is fine. They take your order and run with it. Bit of tunnel vision where it may be a bit hard to flag them down. But the job does get done. Overall 3+ stars

It's moist with a crispy outer edge and the right amount of salt to taste but not be salty. Most of the items on the menu have pretty large portion sizes, and there is a vast selection of items. Nothing shouts out at us to give the food an upstanding 5/5, but this is still a solid pick for an American diner. Note that if you order anything with strawberries (including the fruit cup), you will get exactly 1 strawberry cut into 4 pieces to ration during your meal. Service: 2.5/5 There is one person manning the floor the majority of the time, and he does a good job managing multiple tables. We came in at 9 am on a workday and there were already 25 people in the restaurant, all managed by this one waiter. There is another person who pops in every now and then to deliver food and refill coffee. That said, don't expect to be checked in on often or to quickly get your order in. Also, special requests may or may not be satisfied-- I requested that the whipped cream in my waffle order came on the side, only for it to come right in the middle of my waffle. Atmosphere: 4/5 It's a lively place! This is a popular and long lasting restaurant for a reason. The music is not loud, and there is a comfortable amount of space between each table. I would recommend this place for a family meal, a casual work outing, or a date for an established couple. Final rating: 3.33/5 (rounding down to 3 on Yelp)
