Today I went back to my local stereo shop on Reseda Blvd for a repair to my stereo. When I visited this same stereo shop six months ago, I decided to visit the coffee shop across the street for some food while I waited for my repair. On that visit, I met Joyce the owner, and she happily served me my meal that day, and I had an exceptional experience. I left Joyce's coffee shop a very satisfied five star review later that day. The last time I came, Joyce was not present again (she works weekends). Today I tried to visit Joyce again, but forgot she works weekends--but today I met Ms. Faith. Faith's customer service was above and beyond. The warmth. The friendliness. The pride in her work and her role in the Joyce's Coffee Shop family. The joy. The most charming smile and energy. The enthusiasm. The work ethic. I wanted Faith to join me for my meal, but she never stopped working, and she had no break planned. Faith is actually a former bartender with many years of experience. She made millions of dollars in tips over the years, because all the drunks would fall in love and hand their wallets over to Faith. She was great at what she did. Patrons would go to her bar, sit down, and blackout just because they were there to chat with Faith for as long as possible. Of course they couldn't just sit there--so they'd just order drink after drink. And drink. And tip. And then ATM. And then more drinks with Faith. Tips tips tips. Faith made millions as a bartender (that's how she bought her Bentley coupe). As a bartender, she even got a 3 wedding proposals, and 4 "modeling" offers . And Faith LEFT the money and the fame--once she discovered Joyce's Coffee Shop. Faith knew she wanted to be in that warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere--as often as possible. Faith applied for work at Joyce's, then followed-up daily with Joyce's for 2 weeks--and ultimately earned herself a spot on Team JCS. The food was 5-stars--as always. It's as goods as eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and hot coffee get. The environment was another 5-stars--always clean, always welcoming and always playing carefully curated playlists of yesterday's biggest hits. Joyce's Coffee Shop has been in business since 1955, and they've done such a great job of not only preserving the original dining room setup and upholstery, but also the original owner's commitment and dedication to great food in a welcoming environment--produced and served by the best customer service. And sitting in Joyce's Coffee Shop is like sitting in a blast from the past. It's classic. It's retro. It's vintage. It's well-preserved. Joyce's Coffee Shop is part of San Fernando Valley history. It's kinda like a Valley historical landmark. It's definitely a San Fernando Valley treasure. It's on its 4th owner, and it was never sold to a new owner that wasn't fully committed to the original owner's original mission. The diner mission of "as good as it gets," and "keeping it that way"--I love that. All staff is warm, friendly and welcoming. I went to have breakfast the other day at 6:30 when they opened, I ordered the breakfast special number four, which is a Denver omelette. Food was good as usual. I was ready to pay my bill I could not find the server so I left payment on the table mind you the breakfast special is $9.99 so I left $13 on the table and walked out. As I arrive to my car, the server runs outside with ticket and cash in his hand and tells me that I need to pay my bill. I said I left my payment on the table he said this is not enough. I said what do you mean he then goes on to tell me that I ordered the regular omelette on the menu that is $20. I did not have time to discuss this with him, I needed to go to work. So beware of what you order and make sure you're ordering exactly what you want from the menu because if you do not, it you will be blamed for making the wrong order and you will be charged accordingly. Living in the area, I've passed by Joyce's for years. Decided to take the jump and stop by for a bite a few times. Granted we're not high volume patrons, the experiences we've had made it more than memorable. Due to an upgraded status, finding ADA places are necessary during this era. Joyce's shop is accessible, with very limited stairs. Parking may be sparse but you don't have to worry about climbing steps. Had a solo breakfast date here and couldn't have picked a better place. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and led to a cute little booth. The diner itself has great charm with that oldies vibe and the menu has quite an array of choices. I went with a traditional breakfast and cup of coffee. As it was a Sunday morning I decided to try a mimosa and that day their special was a watermelon flavored one. Everything was sooo good. The portion was more than enough and cooked well. We love this hidden gem! My husband and I recently moved to Northridge from Granada Hills and always enjoy exploring the mom and pop spots in our neighborhood. We love supporting our community and finding places that are unique and delicious compared to big chains. We pass by this place all the time on our way to CSUN to walk our dogs, and we finally decided to come in last year. So glad we did. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently delicious. They offer weekly specials, and some of the best meals I've had here have been from those. I also had the chance to speak with the owner, who shared that she and her husband own the café and source their coffee from their own farm in Guatemala. The coffee is incredibly smooth and honestly one of my favorite parts of coming here. Joyce Café has been part of Northridge for over 50 years, which makes it feel even more special. I also love the old photos of the Valley displayed on the walls. It adds such a nostalgic and local touch. Do not leave without trying a slice of pie. They're all good, but my personal favorite is the cherry. Just a heads up, they close at 3pm and are cash only, but they do have an ATM on site. Overall, we love this place and highly recommend it. Ok, so when a coffee shop boasts 'best pancakes in the Valley' carbs be damned, Imma goin' in! Went with a simple Short Stack combo: 2 eggs, 2 bacon(or sausage), 2 plate size pancakes. Hubs went with 2 eggs, ham steak and country potatoes with/toast. Everything was solid. The potatoes got left behind. No flavor, but that seems to be the norm: leave it to the customer to add S/P, hot sauce, etc. They were cooked nicely. But the pancakes is why I was here. According descriptions on Yelp, they are scratch from their own recipe. They were lightly fluffy with a slight bit of "chewiness". Yummy, but I prefer Heavenly Pancakes and LuLu's, both of which are a thicker, cake-like pancake with a slight sweetness. Still, I believe, like MANY THINGS, pancakes are subjective to the palette. If you favor a slightly chewy pancake vs a cake-y pancake, Joyce's will satisfy your craving. We like coming to Joyce's because the service is always friendly and food is served promptly and well made. We enjoy all the pics and memorabilia on the walls and the OG diner vibe. Their brunch "Happy Hours" are all week, but additional special can be had on weekends and for early risers before 9am. CASH ONLY!!! But - lucky for us - an ATM is conveniently located toward the front of the restaurant. $2.50 service fee. They only accept cash so know that! There is a restroom available to customers and it was clean. Our server was friendly and checked on us regularly. The coffee is hot and good, not bitter. They have an extensive menu, however we went there for breakfast and stuck with the classics. Bacon and eggs with crispy hash browns and english muffic. Eggs benedict with crispy hash browns. My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Joyce's Coffee Shop for the first time today , and it was truly an unforgettable experience. We sat at the bar and were lucky enough to be served by the legendary Joyce herself, which made the visit feel even more special and personal. They were incredibly soft, light, and fluffy, and somehow didn't leave us feeling heavy or bloated afterward. Even the syrup stood out, its not watered down like you find at most breakfast spots. Honestly, the food looked so amazing that we didn't even get a picture we started eating immediately. The service was absolutely top tier. Every single person working there made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. The bacon was to die for, perfectly cooked and full of flavor and everything tasted incredibly fresh. One of our favorite touches was the aguas frescas. We tried the watermelon and the lemon, mint, and cucumber, and they were beyond refreshing. To top it off the mint and lemon were picked fresh from their garden that very morning!! We had their breakfast special which includes 2 sausage 2 bacon 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and hashbrown and it was yummy. Hashbrown was fried right and crispy. Eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly better than ihop and dennys doing it, lol! Their pancakes are creamy and fluffy! The philly cheesesteak were yummy too with the steak seasoned well and with the right amount of onion and peppers. Our server is very good. He even got our furry friend water to gulp on. This old school coffee shop (opened in 1955) serves some of the best breakfast in the Valley. I've enjoyed all sorts of omelets and scrambles and daily specials -- and their breakfast burritos are big enough for 2 to share. This time, I had their homemade Corned Beef Hash, served with perfectly crispy edges and on-the-mark over medium eggs. Lots of flavor, and very satisfying. I opted to not get potatoes or any of the other side options, but it does come with your choice plus toast. What's also great is the feel of the place. They've managed to keep their original decor in good shape (or they've updated it cleverly to feel original), and even though some of the fixtures do look "old" in a good and fun way, the place is sparkling clean. Service is alway top notch from a tight team of cooks and servers who are fast, friendly and very attentive. They have a liquor license, so they serve a full range of drinks to turn breakfast into brunch, and even though they are cash only, they do have an ATM available (and there's a Wells Fargo half a block away). Very cute, cash only hole in the wall diner. Service was quick to help and our server was polite. They have a very wide breakfast selection, but only serve plain coffee. The coffee was cold. Food was very on par to a home cooked meal. I feel like I did not order correctly. I tried the loco loco purely for the novelty. It was a chili cheese and hash brown topped with egg dish, but it was not good. The chili was flavorless and obviously from a can, and the hash browns were soggy from the chili. My partner got the pancakes, which were good but nothing special. Also, as soon as our food was served, another waiter immediately brought our check to the table. We hadn't even taken a bite of our meal, and felt like we were being rushed out. Maybe it's normal for their regulars, but it was off putting for our first visit. There is a small parking lot in the back however street parking and free neighborhood parking is really easy to find. For my first visit I ordered the Ranch Style Breakfast and as mentioned half of it came out and then the pancakes came out over 10 minutes later. The pancakes were fairly good, but the hamburger patty was just very bland and nothing special at all. I had a much better version at another place close by the week prior. I love diners. And this place definitely have that old diner feel. As soon as I sat down, I saw a big sign said CASH ONLY. Luckily they had an ATM machine however something was wrong with the chip on my card. I decided to leave. However they said I could use my credit card and order through Doordash but instead do a "pickup." So I did ended up sitting back down but had a few issues with the entire online process (not the diner's fault). Essentially I ended up "working" for the meal since it took a good 15 minutes to get things through. The food was serviceable. I had corned beef hash with eggs and English muffin (which was soaked in margarine or butter). The coffee was a bit watered down...not the usual standard good diner coffee. I prefer having breakfast at small, locally owned restaurants rather than big chains like IHOP or Denny's--just like this place, Joyce's Coffee Shop. I really liked what I ordered--it wasn't greasy and tasted great. I was also amazed to learn that this restaurant has been around for more than 18 years! On top of that, the service was excellent. The server was very friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right. You can really feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere here--like they truly care about their customers.
