4/29/2026: I was cruising through the Valley and asked hubby to make a stop to pick up a good Banh Mi for later. It had been a while since I visited my places in Reseda and I wanted to see if they're still as good as before. Sandwich Express did not disappoint! Back in the 80's I lived in Northridge and had a Vietnamese co-worker who was a friend and fellow foodie. He introduced me to banh mi and Sandwich Express, and I'm so glad he did! Starting with their amazing banh (baguette rolls), they're baked fresh daily. They're crisp on the outside and perfectly soft in their interior. Not too dense or thick - just the right crisp and airy bread to filling ratio that you want in a banh mi! You can also buy baguettes to take home. Back in the day they were 3 for $1! Yup, apparently I'm that old... today they're a couple of bucks, but still worth it. Sorry I failed to take pics of my sandwich when it was freshly made, I was just so excited to go back in time to this little corner of Reseda that looks like it hasn't changed! The photo shown is the next day.. and that's only HaLF of the sandwich! The lady at the counter was so sweet! Don't assume rudeness for challenges with communication. I was nice and she was kind in return. There's a language barrier and at first she was shy, but once we worked through the English-Vietnamese translations with the help of Google, I was able to ask her if they sell Kho Ga La Chanh (Chicken Jerky) - and she ran excitedly to the back and produced a sealed bag of their homemade jerky! Not the same flavor profile as the stuff I buy in San Gabriel Valley, but it's a start! I'll bring them a sample the next time I get a batch to see if they can mimic the sweet spice. Theirs is a little more "five spice" forward. I placed my order for a #1 "Dac Biet" sandwich, "extra pâté, extra veggies". That's my default sammie by which I judge all Bánh Mi and I'm here to say that even a day later, right out of my fridge it's still THE best Banh Mi in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys! Bright, fresh, generously filled.. and the magic bread. I happen to know that a local chain of popular phô restaurants buys their bahn (rolls) daily from Sandwich Express to make their own sandwiches and to serve with their Bho Ko (stew)! If you're wondering for reference where my bar is set, my go-to banh mi spots in San Gabriel Valley are Bánh Mi Hue Thai and Banh Mi Hoa Phat. ~IYKYK~ What has changed at Sandwich Express? It's not just sandwiches anymore AND they have a few tables inside where you can sit down to eat! They don't have my beloved Soda Xí Muội (salted plum soda) or the lime version either. Just canned and bottled American sodas, but that's not a deal breaker. Check out the posted menu pics. Bún Bò Huě, Bò Kho.. the owner did suggest calling first to make sure these items are available on the day you want to come, but she boasts that it's very authentic! They even have broken rice dishes with grilled pork chop (Cóm Tãm Súòn)! I read in another review that the original owners sold. I don't know if this is accurate or when it happened.. but I didn't see the older people that were often in the kitchen so it's possible! Back to the changes - they have desserts now, too! They also cater! What?!? No longer cash only, they accept Visa/Mastercard. I'm so glad we stopped! They still hold the #1 spot in the area. Convince me otherwise! read more

We had a very disappointing experience with this store, both in terms of food quality and customer service. We have been loyal customers for over 10 years and frequently order the beef sandwich and pâté. Yesterday, we ordered two beef sandwiches and one pâté. Since we live only 8-10 minutes away, we returned home immediately after picking up the order. When I started eating, I noticed that the pâté tasted very sour and spoiled. Unfortunately, I had already mixed part of it with my rice, so I had to throw it away. We called the store right away to report the issue, and they told us we could bring the pâté back the next day. Today, we returned to the store. We did not request a refund--we simply wanted to exchange the item and were willing to pay the difference for a beef sandwich instead. However, the staff member we spoke with was very rude and accused us of lying, claiming that we had eaten the pâté. We explained that we had to discard it since it was mixed with rice and even showed a photo that we throw it in to the trash, but she continued to question our honesty. In the past, we have had positive experiences with previous staff, and the owners have always been kind. Unfortunately, this particular employee demonstrated very poor customer service and made the situation unnecessarily unpleasant. An apology would have been appropriate. The employee declined to provide her name and appeared hesitant. She is a newer staff member, approximately in her 50s, and spoke incessantly while repeatedly blaming us for the situation. This is not about the cost--the amount is small. It is about how customers are treated. While this issue could have been escalated further, including reporting to the health department, we chose not to. What we expect instead is for the store to ensure proper food quality and provide better TRAINING for staff. Due to this experience, we will not be returning and will share our experience with others. read more

Overall great bang for buck. The bahn mi are huge and delicious. Bread is fresh and not too crunchy. Downsides are the service is very unorganized. The ladies behind the counters are yelling and handing out special call in orders. Also, they have a secret menu thats not displayed anywhere. My order was forgotten and the order was wrong when I eventually got it. Also, the atmosphere isn't very welcoming. Its loud, hot, Dirty tables and floors. Its just a good fast food take out type place. I'll still be back to try other things but definitely won't be eating it there. read more

Our favorite sandwich is bbq pork. The bread is fresh and the meat flavorful and plentiful. Hardly ever a line and sandwiches made to order. Their ice Vietnamese coffee is strong and sweet. Although there are tabes, this is mainly a to go place. I recommend their bahn mi sandwiches. read more

Took a bite out of my sandwich and noticed a dead fly in my sandwich. Completely disgusting and an example of horrible quality control of this restaurants food. What's worse is when I went to show the worker the sandwich with the fly in it he disagreed and said it was "Black Pepper" than when I said look closely it's a fly he grabbed it then flicked it to the side. This store has been a valley staple since forever! Prices are affordable and food is very tasty but don't expect clean and ideal place to dine in. It's best to get to-go. Bread is made in house in the morning so the earlier the better or else you'll get the classic issue of your sandwich tearing up your mouth. I love their dac biet #1 special sandwich, good amount of pate and stuffing. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient. If you speak Vietnamese they're incredibly excited to speak back in Vietnamese. Went here to get food for tet, their banh tet and banh Chung with dua mon is REALLY good here. Highly recommend it's the only place in the valley I know that offers them, and they're well priced for holiday seasonal food! read more

This place is a disaster, from a half hour wait for a 1 sandwich, to watching the cashier lady handle cash and cards and then grab bread by her bare hand to bag for customer. I got the number 6 which was mostly just fat pieces of pork, so I opened it up to try to remove the fat pieces and I found a piece of aluminum ( sandwich was wrapped in paper). read more

The lady at the counter is one of the rudest people I've ever met. 2 stars because the older man is nice and their bahn mi's are decent. I called and tried to order off the menu I found on Yelp. Apparently I tried to order something they don't have anymore (beef stew) and she started yelling at me and hung up on me. I still wanted the bahn mi's, giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming we got disconnected. Nope, she hung up on me again . By then, I was only a few minutes from the restaurant so I walked in. She realized that I was the one that called, she gave the stink eye walked away. The older gentleman stepped in, and helped me. Mind you, I was patient and polite with her the entire time. Not sure if she's the owner or an employee, but she seems either ultra sensitive or just hates people in general. I understand sometimes there is a communication barrier and cultural differences, but this woman is straight up rude. She needs to retire. This is my go to place for Banh mi but their customer service was Awful! I came in with no other customer in line. I smiled to the lady at the counter and began to state my order when she suddenly decided to help the lady who just came in and who went right next to me talking in their language. Talk about RUDE! I waited patiently thinking she was just picking up an order but no... after I saw a her ordering several baguettes she toyed with her coin bag then she started picking up and inspecting wrapped food items on the table and continued to to take up more time. I gave up and started walking towards the exit when the counter lady yelled out " Mam! Mam!" Trying to call me back! I came in first and came out with nothing after driving so far! I was so mad. We tried this place because the VALLEY SANDWICH in Reseda Blvd (where I always order) was closed. We ordered #6, #9, and #12. The taste was just okay... nothing special. The liver pâté lacked flavor. And the service sucked! The woman at the register was so rude--while we were still deciding what to order, she shouted at us and said something we couldn't even understand. It was as if she was saying, "What's your order?" even though it was obvious we were still looking at the menu pictures on the wall. Then I paid using my card... an error occurred, and she said, "No money!" I felt so insulted. I tried again, and the payment went through. Then she started making our order. As we were watching, she shouted at us to sit down. But no--we wanted to see how it's done. My sister sat down anyway, worried she might skimp on our food. She may have been rude to cover up her lack of English. When we asked her about the food, she completely ignored us--it was obvious she had a hard time speaking English. I came in on 04/22/2025 around noontime. Food: I only wanted to try their Banh Mi, but was also distracted by their other food displayed at the counter. Grilled Pork Banh Mi (Banh Mi Thit Nuong) ($9.50): The sandwich is huge. The pork was flavorful, I asked for extra pate ($1.00). The bread is crispy. Bo Bia ($9.50): They were selling it for 3/9.50. The rolls are huuuge. The peanut sauce and chili crisp pairs well with the rolls. Sesame Ball (Banh Cam) ($1.50): it was crispy on the outside, and the bean filling on the inside is not too sweet. Pairs well with coffee. Service: The service took a while which was understandable. Tons of people were ordering to go. But they prepared the food at a reasonable speed. I appreciate that. The lady at the cashier was kind to answer my questions and she recommended some food for me to try, and it was great! Atmosphere: The dining space was clean. One of the best Bahn Mi! Fresh bread crispy & soft and tasty fillings. We always get #1. They also have vegetarian Bahn Mi too. They also have Manapua (not sure what it's called in the mainland) but in Hawaii it's what we call it. It's a steamed pork bun with pork & egg filling. The bun is so fluffy! We have been getting our sandwiches here for at least 18 yrs now. Staff is always friendly. Highly recommend. read more

Constant Overcharging and Poor Service Rating: This shop is consistently dishonest. They frequently overcharge by $0.50 to $1.00 on almost every item, despite what they quote you in person. For example, I was told the pâté was $10 but was charged $11 on my receipt; steamed buns quoted at $5 came out to $5.50. Their prices are much higher than other stores, and the staff is quite rude to customers. If you must shop here, check your receipt carefully before leaving. My father in law is Vietnamese, and he sometimes orders shrimp spring rolls for us. Today was only the second time he's gotten them from this place, and both times were a disaster. The first time, the rice paper was so hard it was inedible. This time, the dipping sauce tasted completely off. My father in law explained that the previous owner sold the restaurant, which makes sense, because the new food is awful. I'm guessing the new owner isn't even Vietnamese, which explains how they managed to screw up one of the simplest Vietnamese dishes. When my father in law tried to politely point out the problem, the owner snapped back at him: "You complain too much!" Really? That's the attitude? With lousy food and a rude owner, it's only a matter of time before this place goes under, and I'll happily be clapping when it does. read more

The shop isn't the most trendy or anything. It's definitely a hole in the wall spot. Give it a try if you haven't. There is parking in the back and meter parking on the side. Since the last review. I have come back 4-5 times. and maintain the stance that the food is absolutely stellar. This is a gem of a place as far as taste and value is concerned. The staff will be decent if you walk in but there is absolutely no wiggle room for modifications customizations change order (specially when they have punched in the register, the aunties have no idea how to modify an order cause they probably learned the machine one way) if you do not know how to speak the language, there is a crazy barrier on what you can do so if you don't know how to speak vietnamese, just expect that the orders as is, will be what you can order. In all of the times I have come back, i just gave them the number (i usually order #6) I would have truly given this place 5 stars if it weren't for the terrible experience that I had previously. It will just have to be one of those "it is what it is" places. Im sure they are all nice people. I just havent experienced it yet to the full haha. read more

One of my favorite places for authentic banh mi sandwiches. There is nothing like it. I love it more than that big chain of banh mi. This is a great bakery as well. If you like freely baked French baguettes every morning this is the place to get it. If I live close by I wouldn't mind coming over every morning to get freshly baked bread. They are so crispy and yummy, very light too at a very affordable price. Just eating it with eggs or sardines or pate would make a lovely light dinner treat and you will still have room for dessert. Anyway this is still one of the affordable places to get a foot long banh at a reasonable price. Try it. Note though that this is not a fancy place. read more

I've been coming here for so long. This might be the best Vietnamese Sandwich shop in town. It's authentic Vietnamese for sure. They also bake their bread in-house and I've overhead other customers raving about it, sometimes coming in just to buy the bread! Also, try their Vietnamese coffee with your sandwich! I love that they sell other items at the counter in addition to their sandwiches; banh gio, cha lua, banh bot loc, just to name a few. In gacy, I'm craving their food as I'm writing this review! Categorically the best sandwich place in the valley. Tofu and mushroom sandwich with extra butter is fresh and bread is toasted well. The food is big and can be shared and the people running the business are kind. Vietnamese coffee is perfect. Very cozy inside and good boba and other drinks.
