Tried yet another awesome dish at this spot. When you ask the owner what else is good, he replies, "I'll make something special for you, have a seat" . The owner ended up making Teriyaki Duck Combo for me and it was amazing. The dish consisted out of sautéed rice, noodles, many delicious veggies and I believe some tofu and tempeh that resembled the flavor of duck meat. I'm not normally into vegan dishes, but this one was special. You could taste the freshness of each ingredient and the portion was enormous and could have easily fed 2 adults. The owner's got a phrase "I pick you eat" and after last couple of visits, I fully trust it. To start, the staff were very friendly and welcoming! However, $40 for 2 appetizers served on paper plates is wild. I've never been to a dine-in restaurant and had food served on paper plates w disposable utensils. When I think of Vegan, I think of an environmentally conscious lifestyle, so we were very surprised to see no eco friendly practices taking place. The food was nothing special. We got 2 appetizers to start but we finished there bc it wasn't good. Just tasted like the average processed vegan meat with vegetables and carbs. Years ago, when they weren't as popular, but just a small hole-in-the-wall vegan place, the prices were decent (given the market prices) and the owners were also genuinely friendly. However, cut to today where the prices have significantly increased - for the vibe and place - it's not worth it anymore. Also, seeing firsthand the owners seem less friendly and seemingly more money minded, I feel they take their customers for granted knowing there will be demand regardless of how they are or what they charge; this does not sit well with me. Given there has been growth of vegan-vegetarian restaurants, I would support other and newer restaurants instead. read more

This restaurant has a slogan: I pick you eat. Have eaten at your Cerritos location and had always wanted to try this location too. Was planning to Yelp review this restaurant and finally decided to come in today. Was told by the Cerritos owner that his brother runs this restaurant and I immediately noticed they share a resemblance. There is a video posted to Yelp of their taco which was my first choice but no longer available. So, ordered a Banh Mi sandwich. All ingredients were perfectly flavored. We came here to host our friend who has food restrictions and is GF and vegan. We came in at 11am on a Sunday right when they opened. There was a woman who helped us out and offered an elite tier of service--making recommendations and listening to every preference, even offering off menu combo items and specially prepping everything exactly to our tastes. I was very very thankful for this help since I don't spend much time in Vegan or GF spaces. The food came out promptly, and I enjoyed the rolls! The other dishes were tasty and I liked the mushrooms especially. There are several pitfalls that I want to mention though: a bit too much sugar in the sauces, and boiling-hot soup is served in plastic bowls (microplastics, chemical leaching). Came here after picking up my wife from work. I was craving vietnamese food and indian food, and when I found this on Yelp, all I read was duck fried rice. We get to the place and my wife mentioned it's a vegan place and I was thoroughly confused for a second because 1, I didn't read that it was vegan and 2, my stomach was committed to eating duck fried rice. The second we sit down, the waitress advised that it was a vegan restaurant, and I responded like an imbecile "but you have duck?". She chuckled and smiled a bit and said, it's "vegan duck". She did t take offense but asked if we still wanted to eat there. I said, "Why not?" It had great reviews, and I was intrigued about this vegan duck. The waitress (didn't catch her name) kindly suggested that she bring us out an appetizer and a plate to start off with that. I agreed instantly without realizing I didn't order their duck fried rice. I thought I could always order it later. The dishes come out, and to my surprise, she brought out the duck fried rice and what looked like a spam spring roll looking appetizer with a tamarind flavor dipping sauce. The spring roll was what we attacked first. It was very tasty. Lots of flavor and the dipping sauce with the hot sauce they provided were great. After obliterating the first half of my spring roll, I tried the duck fried rice. It was also very good. You get this bbq-ish flavor from the duck, which you can barely tell that it's not duck. For a vegan dish, I was surprised that I didn't really miss the actual protein. It tasted like it was real duck fried rice. The skin on the "duck" also looked like duck skin. After we stuffed our faces, I asked for dessert. The waiter (yes, male and different from the lady we started with) asked if we wanted dessert. I said yes, and he kindly asked where I'm from. I said the Philippines, and he came back out with this halol halo looking drink with coconut milk on top, some coconut jellies of different colors, and chia seeds. The restaurant is a little small and located on a small plaza off Sherman way. I highly recommend trying it out if you are vegan or would like to try a vegan dish for the first time. read more

Been several times and it's always a fun experience with excellent food! One thing I love is how they almost will not let you order yourself, they will ask questions as to what you like and will make dishes according to your preferences. They have never steered me wrong! My favorite items usually include their vegan duck or sparerib. Their fake shrimp is also great. I love the dry dishes such as the teriyaki duck and nothing special fried rice. As far as pho, I love Kevin's #1 pho or the House special. The ham rolls and Peking duck rolls are excellent, and their Boba drinks are outstanding! The last one I got with mango, coconut milk, Boba and pandan jelly was incredible. Only thing I wouldn't order again was the beef lemongrass noodle salad. Although the food was absolutely amazing, genuinely some of the best vegan food I've had, I was really disappointed with the dine in experience. For a restaurant that represents sustainability and conscious living, serving all dine-in food in plastic takeaway containers feels very contradictory. It not only makes guests feel rushed, but also creates unnecessary plastic waste. Serving hot soup in black plastic containers especially felt concerning, can't imagine all the micro-plastics I ate in this soup. The food itself deserves 5 stars, which is why this was so disappointing to me. A little disappointing from what I remember. It has been a quite a few years, but I really loved this before. Had the chicken spring roll, the shrimp spring roll and the teriyaki duck salad. The spring rolls were fine, but they were primarily lettuce greens with a little bit of noodle for filling. No herbs and very little flavor. The peanut sauce was delicious, which improved the overall dish. For $11 each (2 spring rolls per order), it was overall underwhelming. The salad was good. More variety with herbs, fresh vegetables and noodles. But for an $18 salad, I think it should have been great. Not sure if my memory was overhyped about the food, or it's a bit of the cost/benefit ratio analysis that comes into play when most everything seems far more expensive than it should be. Either way, I'm not sure I'll be running back soon for more. Atmosphere has not changed. Clean, bright but simple. The service is fairly matter of fact - not unpleasant but not uber friendly either. VLT is one of one. There's no other restaurant like it in Los Angeles, or really anywhere else I've been. Kevin is such a lovable character -- he knows how good his food is and is excited to share it with you. The key is to just let him decide what you'll eat. He greets you with a fist bump, sits you at a plastic table, drops off some laughably flimsy paper plates and plastic utensils, and from there you're off on the most rewarding culinary adventure you're likely to have in quite some time. His phos are top notch. The fresh rolls (loaded with fake meat and sometimes spring rolls) are delicious. His curries and rice dishes are incredibly flavorful. Everyone should eat here but if you're a Valley vegan and haven't tried it yet you are seriously missing out. There is some major brujeria happening over here with the veggie meat and I am all for it. I remember when this place first started off serving Vietnamese folks, and was shocked and impressed and how it has expanded into a Yelp darling. Had the the most delicious dinner last night ...and ya know what? Every meal I've ever had here has been nothing short of absolutely delicious! Kevin puts his heart and soul into this restaurant and it shows. He and his wife have a loyal following and know what people want to eat. So what did we eat last night? Well, started with the oriental duck rolls. Flavor will burst in your mouth. These are best enjoyed at the restaurant rather than take out as there's an element of crunch that could get soggy by the time one would get the dish home. They're served warm with best peanut sauce I've ever had. My hubby enjoyed Kevin's Special Soup in a spicy lemongrass broth and added steamed dumplings. Soup contained rice noodles, vegan chicken, vegan ham, shiitake mushrooms, broccoli, brown onion, red fried shallots, scallions and cilantro. Soup is served with shredded cabbage, mint, bean sprouts, and lime. I really like the yam salad as its so unique. The seasoned yam noodles with spinach, bean sprouts, cucumber, crushed peanuts, fried onions with a light dressing on the side is just fantastic. Even their water is special, last night it was flavored with limes, cukes and oranges....soooo refreshing.
