This was my first visit to a Mimi's. And I loved it! French toast was delicious, but I got to say, the star was the corn beef hash - nice chunks of meat and crispy finish. Exactly what I woke up craving. Salty and sweet - topped off with perfectly cooked over-easy eggs. Classic diner vibes with nice interior. Staff - especially Liz brightened up the whole experience. Went last week for my birthday and had a wonderful time. The server, Liz, was amazing! She was friendly, efficient and was checking to see how we were doing. The food was incredible. First time, had Chicken Cordon Bleu and it was delicious! I'm going to reorder that again. Tasty, sauce was just the right mustard, the chicken was perfectly cooked as was the garlic spinach. Also, ordered the Chicken Parmesan which was tasty as usual. Both dishes had healthy portions. Total value for the money. We had the birthday sundae dessert and Liz even sang Happy Birthday. Food always good, I love coming to this place but the one thing I love the most had to be the service. Liz was awesome always coming to check on us and asking if we needed anything. Mimi's Cafe is a chain with over 20 locations in California, and I'm quite perplexed by Yelpers who are complaining about why this coffee shop/diner isn't delivering the kinds of meals they get at an upscale restaurant. Yes, the decor has a few French accents, but it's primarily the same kind of 20th Century furnishings you'd find at dozens of other such places across the SFV, and which scream "omelettes and burgers and club sandwiches." So, who's confused? Frankly, I thought the food was quite decent, and the servers were very friendly. We arrived at about 10:45am on a Sunday, and they were pretty busy. Rather than wait for a table, we sat at the Counter, and were nicely tended to by the team. This counter doubles as their bar, and they do have a full (if not extensive) selection of liquors -- people were ordering mimosas and bloody Mary's, and generally enjoying themselves. The menu offers the greatest hits of diner food for each day part, so the breakfast menu wasn't quite as large as I expected. Still, there were plenty of choices, many of which sounded appealing, and all of which were reasonably priced. I decided on the Smoked Salmon Benedict, which they build with Cold-smoked Atlantic salmon and medium-poached eggs, topped with hollandaise sauce, diced red onions and capers, and served with a side of roasted potatoes. The food was very nicely composed and plated, with the eggs being just runny enough to coat the salmon and English muffin without being messy, while the capers and diced onions added an enjoyable pop of spice and brine you don't usually get with a Benedict. The roasted potatoes on the side were less successful. Despite having the perfect color to them -- one that would indicate they were crispy -- they were, in fact, somewhat mushy inside and out. I'm not sure exactly how they are cooked and then kept warm, but the kitchen may want to tweak its approach. My wife was attracted to their appealingly-described Brown Sugar & Cranberry Oatmeal. Though it sounded really special, in the reality this was just regular oatmeal served with brown sugar and cranberries on the side, as you would get at any coffee shop anywhere in America. But, though not exactly the chef-composed creation the menu implied, my wife really enjoyed the oatmeal, saying it tasted very good. At least as far as she was concerned, there was no harm, no foul. So, is Mimi's the culinary world's greatest gift to high-toned brunch? Of course not. But is Mimi's a good place to get a perfectly good brunch for a good price? Of course it is! Go. I reserved a table for 5 to celebrate my birthday. I even put it on the reservation that it was for my birthday on the questionnaire asking for what occasion the reservation for. They didn't even acknowledge it after I said it to the maitre D and the waitress. The food was tastes so-so. The white Russian drinks were so diluted with too much water that it was a waste of $15 of drink each for what we're accustomed to paying. My family wasn't too happy and we left the restaurant hungry. Perfect for a casual Sunday breakfast with the fam! Mimi's what happened!? The bathroom was filthy, the food was dirty... I got chunks of cast iron or something hard and brittle and black in my over cooked hard unseasoned omelette. My guest from out of town ordered the salmon... That sliver of salmon over the rice and what looked like a cafeteria food veggies... I'm talking literally 3 broccoli crowns. WHAT HAPPENED!? My tooth chipped a bit off the hard black particle in my omelette. The waitress saw me remove the food and came back to the table to see what was wrong. The main issue was with the food. We ordered eggs Benedict, and unfortunately, all of our plates came out cold. It seemed like the food may have been sitting for a while before being brought to us. We were really hungry, so we didn't send it back, but it was definitely disappointing. Our waitress seemed really busy and wasn't very present at the table, so we didn't have much of an opportunity to bring it up. Her service felt a bit rushed and dismissive, likely due to being overwhelmed. The flavor of the food was actually good it's just unfortunate the temperature ruined the experience. Blueberry muffin over toast with my entree plate every time! The muffin was gooey and sticky, so yummy and warming. I loved eating it as a dessert after my breakfast entree plate (Although they serve the muffins early on! It was so tempting to eat them already). My boyfriend got the seasonal menu item of the chorizo sausage omelet. The cheese was layered ontop of the fluffy meaty egg and was drizzled in sour cream and cilantro. I had a lovely Mother's Day brunch with my mom and family at Mimi's this past weekend! We ended up going on Saturday, May 9th to avoid the crowds which was a great decision on our part as it was not too busy, but still decorated nicely and lively with all of the other families there. The service was decent; I would've appreciated a couple more check-ins and refills especially seeing as they were not as packed as usual. Still, the food was delicious and most importantly, my mom enjoyed her meal. My favorites of the day were the Cookie Butter Latte, the Griddlecake Sampler, and the Santa Fe omelette. Everything was very freshly prepared, warm, and flavorful. I was very surprised by how good the muffins are too! I had never tried one from Mimi's before, but as it was included with the omelette, I opted for the blueberry one which was warm, soft, and subtly sweet which I really appreciated. It's probably not fair to judge a family restaurant like this on an overcrowded holiday like Mother's Day. Still, here is the scoop. Our son-in-law made reservations for five of us to dine at Mimi's on Mother's Day morning. The reservations were for 11:15. It took over half an hour to be seated, even with the reserved status. That's just how busy they were. There was a line out the door to check in for everyone - whether you were trying to walk in and get on the waiting list or whether you had reservations. We eventually were shown to our table. Which turned out to be portable tables set up as overflow in the middle of the main dining room. They had moved all the regular tables to the side walls and set up at least four overflow tables in the middle of the room. It made for close quarters, and wasn't easy for the servers to negotiate. There's no such thing as reasonably priced food when eating out anymore. Remember when an expensive breakfast was $10 or $11 for steak & eggs? Yeah, me, too. The other breakfast entrees would be no more than $5. Ah, the good old days. In the present day, Dear Hubby and I each had a breakfast entree. He stuck with water, and I ordered juice. There went $40. Because the restaurant was packed, it took some time for orders to come out of the kitchen. I imagine that it was a hot mess of choreographed chaos in there that day! My meal was actually still warm when it got to me, and it was tasty. DH said that his was just okay, though it looked nice. Sweet Granddaughter took a break from playing word games to eat her meal and she was okay with it. Our daughter and SIL enjoyed mimosas with their food, so they were okay with it. No gourmet experience, for sure. The noise level was quite high with so many people inside. I have to say that the servers and hosts kept on pushing through conditions that must have been challenging. The helped make the best of a crazy day. read more
