Alas I tried it again and I was disappointed yet again. The chapssal tang soo yook was not so chapssal-y. And the jjajangmyun was a bit greasy. One of the biggest downfall is the fact that they don't use THE best kimchi (Hansol) which they sell across the street like dabin used to. I refuse to believe it's the same chef. Love a good jjajangmyun place! They're currently promoting $5.99 for their opening special. I totally recommend that and their portions are HUGE. Someone ordered the seafood jjampong and it looked amazing. But u recommend u get the fried pork in sweet and sour sauce aka tangsooyuk. Get the one with rice flour batter. I am Korean. I would give 2.5 stars. The reviews with 4&5 stars are missing out and never experienced the good dishes... the gganpoongki (깐풍기) was not crispy at all. Crispiness is vital when it comes to tangsooyook(탕수육) and gganpoongki(깐풍기). The jjampong did not have any deep taste in the soup. This place has really awesome noodles! We went on a Saturday around 1 and it wasnt too crowded, there were also dividers between the tables which was a good precaution (it also gave us privacy). They served us banchan of chopped onions, a small cup of black bean sauce, radish and kimchi and cups of tea before taking our order. Food arrived pretty fast, the sweet and sour fried pork ($15.95 for a small) came out hot and crispy! The nuggets of actual pork werent huge, but still tasted fabulous in the sauce which was littered with slices of cucumber, onion, wood ear and pineapple! The black bean noodles ($7.95) were kind of sweeter than what i am used to. The noodles themselves were really chewy and cooked to perfection. The spicy seafood noodle soup ($12.95) was the dish i was craving the most, especially after reading michelle zauner's "crying in hmart." It had a huge shrimp (with the head), a handful of mussels and a melange of random seafood bits. The broth was savory and spicy, and ladled on top of the same type of noodles we had with the black bean dish. The portion was huge and we were able to split it amongst three people! At the end of the meal, the waiter gave us the check with full sized yakults for each of us! How sweet :) the bathroom was clean, we didnt feel rushed, and they were attentive with refilling our tea. At first I tried out this restaurant with my friend and all the food was really good, Jjajangmyon was very tasty without being either too salty or MSG after taste. Jjamppong was my fav there, 'yurinki' was also very tasty. All the ingredients were fresh, good quality and even whole calamary was on top of the jjamppong! So I brought my group of 8friends there, ordered bunch of different dishes, everyone enjoyed the food. Food in general not too greasy not salty unlike ordinary Chinese Korean restaurant. All the servers were very friendly, since the place opened resently, it's very clean and simple but very comfortable to enjoy your food. Hainan is by far the best Korean-Chinese restaurant I've tried these days. First of all, restaurant is clean and appealing when you walk in, and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Our party of 6 ordered a variety of dishes including the usual such as jjajangmyun, jjampong, mapo tofu, and fried shrimp in spicy garlic sauce. We also tried the fried chicken in sour, lemony sauce (Yu Rin Gi) with peppers and scallions which was my first time trying the dish. Everything was cooked perfectly, and super delicious, and we devoured it all. I especially enjoyed the Yi Rin Gi... if you've never had it, it's a must try. The light tangy sauce and the vegetables (scallion and spicy peppers) nicely balance out the fried chicken. I'm definitely going back to Hainan for my next korean-Chinese food craving. read more

Many other places cook the sauce and ingredients beforehand and then mix with noodle when order is placed. I recommend JJa jang-myun, Jjam bbong, and fried rice. They are far better than other Korean-style Chinese restaurants. But they need to work on their entree dishes, especially tangsuyuk. I've lived in flushing area for about 20 years and this place is by far the best korean-chinese restaurant in the area. The staples: jja jang myun, jjangbbong and fried rice are the best on the menu. I usually go out of the way and do pick up orders for their Chajangmyun. I've tried numerous different korean-chinese restaurants and I have to say this is one of my new favorites. Their regular chajangmyun has not disappointed and I find it so tasty unlike a lot of other places that prepare it bland. I do wish that the regular chajangmyun came with cuts of beef as other places do. This restaurant does have another kind of order that comes with beef but the sauce is drier, lacks flavor and has way too many onions.
