We drove two hours through interstate and toll road rush hour traffic for a hospital test at 5 PM…read more Ahead of time we had searched Yelp for a place to dine afterwards while letting rush hour traffic abate for our return trip. Taste on Main was best rated and the menu sounded intriguing. We arrived 45 minutes early, and the Maître D' graciously found us a table even though we expressed our willingness to wait. Our server knew the menu well, and the food flowed with perfect timing. The ambiance of a remodelled historic building with modern functionality was both relaxing and refreshing. We were especially pleased with our four telephone calls before hand to the manager about seating if it rained, reservations, and parking. Emily answered each call and was so helpful, and it is a nice touch that the manager interacts directly with the patrons. Each food item was excellent: 1) Mixed Greens Salad (mixed greens, seasonal fruit, candied pecans, manchego cheese, crispy shallots, red wine vinaigrette); 2) Cioppino (clams, mussels, shrimp, fish, calamari, arrabiata-fish brodo, foccacia); 3) 5 oz MTX Petite Filet; 4) Dulce De Leche Crème Brûlée (caramelized dulce de leche base topped with a crackly, burnt sugar shell)

We really enjoy Taste on Main and always look forward to coming back. I've sat both inside and…read moreoutside, but my favorite spot is the back deck surrounded by the huge trees. It's such a lovely setting. The quality of the food is consistently where it should be. My favorite dish so far is the clams, which come with wonderfully toasted bread that is perfect for soaking up the broth. The mac and cheese is also deliciously rich and really hits the spot, and I love the cobbler. There are just a few things I'd tweak. The chips don't seem to be made in-house, and I find the salsa a little too spicy. The crab cake is a generous size and tastes very fresh, but I'd personally love to see it served with a crisp breading and some simple salad greens alongside it. I also tried the bone marrow and found the texture much looser and more gelatinous than I prefer. I've had bone marrow elsewhere with a firmer, more pâté-like consistency that was easier and more enjoyable to spread on bread, so that preparation is more to my taste. The service has always been excellent, and I really appreciate that they offer a small mocktail menu. My husband loves a great Bloody Mary, and theirs has good potential, but we both find the drink itself a little too watered down. We'd love to see it served a bit richer and more full-bodied. We still haven't worked our way through the entire menu, but my husband has had some excellent cuts of meat and also really enjoyed the mole. There is still plenty we want to try, which is always a good sign. Great food, consistently good service, and one of my favorite outdoor dining settings in the area. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

The name of the restaurant should have been self explanatory: Ocean Blue OYSTER bar, but it was anything but. I didn't know how to navigate the menu-- there's Thai food, but also cajun food?? I opted for a little bit of everything: a pound of garlic butter crawfish, papaya salad, and their crawfish étouffée. But... even with a full spread of dishes, not a single thing was good. I love a good leftover, but it wasn't even worth salvaging. WHY: The crawfish had zero flavor. Making crawfish is an art, and the artist here is clearly a novice--you can tell it was rushed. The papaya salad should have been light and refreshing, but boy, the fish sauce overwhelmed every bite. Lastly the étouffée... was far from an actual etoufee. The roux was off, the texture was more like gumbo SOUP, and I barely found any crawfish in it.

Very Disappointed -- We Won't Be Returning…read more This place used to be one of our favorites, but unfortunately, things have really gone downhill since the refurbishment. The menu has changed, the portions are noticeably smaller, and the prices have gone way up. I don't mind paying for good food, but I do expect the food and experience to justify the price. This is starting to feel like the prices of the downtown tourist spots, as if they think we're in Fredericksburg. Most of the people who live here are hardworking, middle-class families. We don't mind spending money, but we shouldn't have to pay premium prices for smaller portions simply because a restaurant has a Main Street view. Sadly, this used to be a favorite of ours. It isn't anymore, and we won't be returning. Start looking at why places are closing down, because you're NOT getting community support! I wonder why? I would like to say that the service has always been good it's just the prices and how they charge for everything separately now.. nope!
